baby124: Olopa for police is, one who holds the batton. This is because the first police men in Nigeria only carried Batons. Olopa does not mean priests in this context.
. Olode is hunters who doubled as security and they carried guns. If the first police carried guns or weapons they may have been known as Olode today. Eso is also security that carries a weapon.
Slave is Eru and freeborn is Omo. That is why Yoruba say bi a se bi Eru la fi bi Omo. Showing the liberal nature of Yoruba society towards slaves. The proverb says a freeborn and slave are born the same and came to the world the same. So, they are equal and slaves should not be treated too harshly. This is my number 09074679826, chat me on what'sapp please |

Olu317: It is of a fact, that names connote nobility, royalty, wealthy and commoner classes of people in the ancient Yoruba world because Yoruba practice monarchy system, though with large characterisation of a balance social rights and equal opportunity's for all people in her domain. This is because Kings daughters or sons had always had the opportunity to be married to commoners children in the ancient Yoruba world which is still practised in today's . Therefore, Yorubas world view as regard classes of people can be attested to in organised monarchial societies across the world during the antiquity.
Unfortunately, disruption through wars, banishment from kingdoms, self exile , sojourning for greener pasture etc in Yoruba land had lexicons redefining amongst certain set of elite yoruba from Bishop Ajai Crowther, Rev. Samuel Johnson, Rev, E.A Showandé, Rev, T.A.J Ogunbiyi' era of mid 18th century upward to Early 19th century. Therefore, names and meaning have been misrepresented by a lot of us Yorubas, even among creme de la creme in today's society, such as Prof Wolé Shoyinká, Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo , whose linear knowledge of Yoruba names and meaning have misled a whole of younger Yoruba generation.
For instance , ọ́lọ́pá is misrepresented as a policeman in modern day Yoruba land by.speakers or natives who aren't vast in Yoruba lexicons, though the identification of police man with such has stuck. This is because the actual meaning of ọ́lọ́pá is, a priestly lineage known ọ́lọ́ - ọ́pá (one who is a bona fide member and mastery of ọ́pá society's knowledge)
Unfortunately, ọ́lọ́pá which is known in today's Yoruba lexicon for police personnel as well, is an idea for loose translation for ( one who hold unto club with his/her hand ), which is the descriptive meaning for police But which is actually a common word known as, ṣọ, o-ṣọ ilú, oníkúmọ, olú-ṣọ etc.Though security, to guard, to protect,to watch over etc in the ancient Yoruba is known with name as ẹṣọ́, a word which was derived from the archaic Yoruba's, ṣọ , to secures, to protect etc. This word, ẹṣọ́ is used for adornment of the body, covering of the body from being nude protect, which simply shows the manner at which Yoruba language has been misrepresented.
Thus, the above analysis is the reason , I want us to juxtapose the actually meaning of,‘freeborn' and ‘slave' in Yoruba land. Hi can I have your number? I enjoy your in depth knowledge of Yoruba history. I recently got an friend that introduced me to the fact that people in Mecca were not white, he said his family ties is from Arab, and it reminded me of the Yoruba we were thought in primary school to have been from Mecca. The reason why I never believed we were from Mecca was because of our dark skin, but since my friend (American), told me that Arabs were once black people, it has made me interested in history. Would love to connect with you. Thanks |

If she kill your husband out of jealousy, that's extremely bad. Why do some people stoop so low? If your man is dating another woman, the man doesn't worth you in the first place so its best to just leave the man alone, I'm sure he will get back it senses. If she went to killing him, then I do not have pity for her,but I have pity for the poor little children. I really want the babies to have their mother, but will they be able to forgive thier mother when they hear this story later in life? The children needs lots of love and counselling especially at teenage year so they won't become a bitter adult. My prayers for the little innocent children |

BRYAN999: David I disagree with your opinion on past questions oh.... see you are sitting for utme. utme exam isn't like waec or Gce or neco. Utme questions are all composed of objective questions and so this gives them liberty to tweak questions to their taste. for example , the other I just finished reading the the topic on heat gain and heat loss, equilibrium in liquids and current electricity. seriously I read those topics to the point that I could break it down to a 2year old child(lol) but do you believe that when I started feeling like a boss and opened my hardcopy past questions hoping to blast it. I saw questions on those topics I had read and out of 50 my score was 28 . i was so shocked I went to review those questions which I failed and discovered that the problem was mot that I didnt know the questions, but the manner in which the question was brought was unlike anything I have seen before.. what I'm trying to hit home is that, jamb have a way of changing pattern of questions that you think you know, regularly studying (note that I didn't say solving , I said studying) past questions shows you the various ways in which a questions under a topic can come, so that when you see such questions in the main exam, you won't be taking by suprise. don't just solve the past questions also study the pattern in which it was brought and save it to your memory.. I bet you if you use this technique David, you will be hitting nothing less than 290 in your test. it's true that the past questions we have now are mostly filled with false answers, most especially biology and English. I have had to correct my biology past question many times instead of it correcting me(can you imagine) this is why you need to study past questions with your textbook by your side. Asfor English language , please try and get Invisible teacher by dele a shade ( I stole mine from a friend as he did not want to give it to me lol). Your vocabulary as well as your scores in English will improve greatly if you use that textbook.for chemistry , physics and biology, I personally use modern biology,( modern biology is simply the best for biology, and I have my reasons) for physics I use new school coupled with a pdf textbook that I got online and for chemistry, like you have already guessed , it's lamlad( I love lamlad chemistry). lamlad seems to be very popular now... sorry for the long write up. I just wanted to straighten your opinion on pastquestions.. By the way, are you still aspiring for ibadan? You seem to be very familiar with Jamb, I wrote jamb 10years ago so im very unfamiliar with it, im planning to write jamb this year, wouldnt mind to do a study along with you, can I? |

cutegentility: Greetings to everybody in the house. As this year runs to an end, I try to figure out my weaknesses. Fortunately for me - I did and it is poor communication skills(English). I think one of the prevailing factor behind this is that I'm used to saying local English and slangs to my fellow country men. However, I made a resolution to have a very good command of this language I'm talking about.
Gurus in the house, how do I go about this?
Although my English might sound averagely okay to local standard but to international level? I'm no where to be found. Most of my foreign friends also complain about this. I will teach you some basics you can build up for free through lots of phone conversations on telegram. If you won't be serious, don't bother to chat me up,as many people I decide to train freely abuse the opportunity and make me feel frustrated. |
Education › Re: What's The Best Course To Study In Nigeria Today? by ModestGal(f): 9:44am On Jan 25, 2020 |
Let me help you out here. The best course in Nigeria for someone hardworking are:
Medicine and Surgery Computer Science Nursing Radiography and other medical courses
Medicine and surgery rank first because if you want to make it in any field and you study that, you will have more opportunity and respect than your fellow mate, which means that after studying the course and you switch to a field such as acting, you will surely be respected and thus gain opportunities if you are hardworking. Nowadays, doctors are entering many fields and they are making it there because we still have many mumu who will always take doctors to be above all sort of jobs.
Computer Science rank second because in this course, people assume you know many ICT stuffs even if lecturer never enter your class to teach a single thing. And now, if you like yourself, you will go and register for 6month ICT training, that's where you will get the skill needed, but the certificate for the skill will be gotten from the university. Now, when you start doing projects, people will respect your works of the same value with your mates just because of your background.
Nursing Nursing ranks third because nurses gets jobs easily and they are as well respected in the society. By this way you will get friends (connection) that will open up opportunities for you. And also middle east countries may always be getting richer and lazy and thus looking for nurses here, so getting jobs is easier for nurses. European countries also has a high probability of always looking for African nurses to use in their countries.
Other medical courses Some other medical courses are as well wella respected so its likely to oave more ways in the health sector.
If you study a course for the purpose of getting a job or wealth in Nigeria, you may end up frustrated, so you need to study for the purpose of certificate to back up your interest or skills you will have to learn under private organizations or firms. |

When I say Nigerians are creative and innovative, and some people say I dey lie. There are genius script writers here that should have been in Nollywood or kannywood and would have given us better movies than we even see in US movies. Most stories here are well coined and I give kudos to the writers, in fact, you all deserve some awards. Some people way never get girlfriend uptill now get 3 girlfriends for secondary school, I salute your writing brilliance. |
Politics › Re: US Travel Ban: Nigeria Won’t React To Speculations - Garba Shehu by ModestGal(f): 11:07am On Jan 23, 2020 |
SELL YOURSELF One of the things that makes a country grow is foreign investment, advanced countries are very good at packaging, branding, and that's why they attract foreign investors and thus grow from there. For the US, they are good with packaging, don't always think US is free from crimes, corruption, fraud, they just do well in packaging theirs but Nigerians are good at destroying their names everywhere. And that's why no investor will actually wanna come here. If you go abroad, not all establishments are from the government, private firms and organizations make getting jobs easier there and it raises the economy of the country. But here in Nigeria, Nigerians are happy to downgrade their country, even at international forums.
Now listen, there are so many good and positive things we still have here even if you are blind to see it, Nigerians are one of the most hardworking people in the whole of the planet. You will never see that on the internet by these bloggers but to write lies on how a bird flew inside a church to attack governors. How many whites can go through what we face in Nigeria that wouldn't have committed suicide or killed all his/her family members, I think you people don't read news, why do you think Nigerians that travel abroad are usually successful? Do you know that Nigerians are one of the most successful ethnic groups in the Us? Or do you think all white people are successful and rich? Many of them live on debts and despite all the opportunities they have, they fail to work hard to succeed. As Nigerians, we have so many good things but the Media has only propagated our bad image, meanwhile their bloggers only sell themselves and make you think their countries are Paradise.
Its all about selling yourself, selling ourselves and opportunities will come our way. Note** I typed this while not concentrating, so kindly correct any grammatical error, punctuation errors in my write up as well as align my points yourself as I'm too busy for that. Start selling yourself if you want attractions for opportunities, start selling Nigeria good image. Once you lice this country you will understand how necessary it is to present your country well because they will all attribute all negatives to you on crimes you've never heard of |

iramure: I'm supposed to be sad over issue like this but let me say say i am happy, Nigeria type of democracy is too dirty, opposition has nothing constructively to add to nation building but rather they tear everything apart to gain sympathy to earn people's vote in the next election. Same thing APC did in their era. We wash our dirty linen outside, expose all that happen to the outside world thereby rendering our dear country vulnerable to all form of media attacks internationally. Every country has their own problems but they manage without any noise. Each time I remember am a Nigerian, I fell sorry for myself. Let all Nigerians come together, let's Shun all religious, tribal, political and ethnic afflictions and make our dear country work. We have been reduced to nothing globally. Imagine USA threatening to ban us. If we had made our country work, who cares about them? The problem start from slavery and colonialism. Naturally, black people feel inferior to white people and that's still our problem till today. The Europeans, Americans all enslaved black people to build what they have today, and Black's work are the result of what we see today in European and American countries. Thats why the blacks in America are asking for reparation fee as rhey claimed they built the white house and America. Black people are worshiping a rich man that inherited his great fathers wealth that robbed their great grandfather's wealth to become wealthy. As for Trump, let him continue, and I will keep watching. Let him continue his useless warlike behaviour and we will see where it ends for America. |

suzzyboss: Lol what are we the giant of Africa for.. If they ban us we ban them back... Abi who is with me,, we giants do not have time for nonsense.. They are still many other beautiful countries in the world.. God bless Nigeria lol When Nigerians are descendants of slaves, we will always want to do mumu for the white people. Its like you all don't know that the reason why America is great today is because of the enslavements of other Nations in years back. And some of the ongoing policies. Just like someone in this forum out in his signature Will you like to be friends with a rich guy that inherited wealth from his great grandfather that robbed, mutilated and killed your own great grandfather. Africans too like to worship white people, that's why sometimes, I feel like we are cursed in Africa. And to all the people saying its CX of the fact that we are bad, crime rates in America is also very high, Americans are good at hypocritical behaviour of packaging themselves as good and terming other countries as bad. |
