Following the violence that erupted on Wednesday, December 2, in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra state, when officials of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) killed nine protesters and injured 18 others, the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has reacted to the unfortunate and avoidable incident. The zonal leader of MASSOB in Delta North, Mr Chinedu Amaifeobu who spoke to journalists in Asaba, on Thursday, December 3, denied any involvement from its members. He said MASSOB was not involved in the violence that broke out, noting that it was the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that perpetrated the act that led to the killings and destruction of property, Vanguard reports. The group’s zonal leader who said MASSOB is not a violent group went ahead to condemned the acts of violence that is being perpetrated by the IPOB. “MASSOB is not in support of the killings and destruction of property. We are not against any group in Iboland but not to the extent of killing innocent people and destroying property,” Amaifeobu said. Speaking further, Amaifeobu refuted speculation that there was a faction in MASSOB, which he said was being spread like a wild fire by one Uchena Nmadu. He reiterated that Mr Raphael Nwazilike remained the undisputed founder and leader of MASSOB worldwide. He claimed that the said Uchena Nmadu was dismissed from MASSOB since last year for misconduct, adding that IPOB and Nmadu are the ones terrorizing Onitsha and its environs. The zonal leader expressed optimism that its group will actualize Biafra without violence. He then pleaded with the media to contact any of their offices to vet whatever information about MASSOB at their disposal before going to press. Amaifeobu said MASSOB has offices in all parts of the Biafra zone, pointing out that the group under the leadership of Nwazilike was dedicated to the Biafra struggle. Meanwhile, Anambra state governor Willie Obianno has called for calm in the state following the renewed Biafra protest that has eaten deep into the heart of some eastern states. It Seems that in Nigeria, the poor get poorer and the rich only become more rich and gain more privilege. No doubt the continuous plunge of our crude oil price in the international market and the increasing exchange rate of naira against the dollar have automatically affected fundamentally the monthly allocations to the states such that the states no longer get up to the amount they used to. Of course, the problem is Nigeria’s almost sole dependence on oil. The other problems at the root of this situation is the existence of unviable states and the non-federal, or what some people now call faulty federal system and structure in Nigeria. These are the problems we are very familiar with and conceivably well-acquainted with the consequences of continuing to manage a problem that is better solved from the basis. That said, the problem has perhaps gone out of control following the fall of crude oil price which has trimmed down Nigeria’s income and the allocations to states. The natural, I mean, the obvious thing to do is to make amends. Right now, it will be impossible to attempt to solve the root causes, particularly, restructuring our federal construction as penance to the shortage of funds because, possibly, it will take years to be fully addressed and implemented therefore it will not yield immediate result which is of essence. So any amend in this direction will take us deeper into more troubling situations before eventually solving the problem. What other option do we have? The situation calls for sacrificial amends and rightly so. We all understand the situation and we have to make sacrifice for the continuous existence and well-being of our states. But, is the indirect call by the governors on workers to sacrifice part of their (minimum) wage in good conscience? Is that option even moral or correct from any and all viewpoints? Who should make sacrifices, governors or workers? Before the minimum wage was reviewed upwards, it took Nigerian labour unions years of protest and strikes. There grew an accepted enmity between the government and the unions. It was like a real war. Then, eventually, it ended in the favour of the workers. From thence, some governors have shown much concern explaining the inability of their respective states to meet up with the pay while others accepted it. Some governors made some reforms according to agreement with their state labour unions, in which while the minimum wage was not strictly adhered to, the prevailing minimum wage was however reviewed upwards. We can deduce therefore that not all states in Nigeria adhere strictly to the minimum wage review. The point here is that at no time have all or even most governors agreed to pay or comply with the ₦18,000 minimum wage. Surviving on ₦600 a day Now, to the contentious minimum wage, which is but ₦18,000, an amount that when divided by thirty days amounts to ₦600 per day. That amount is, to say the least, not enough for a full-grown adult to take care of self and meet daily needs. To think that some families depend on that same amount to make ends meet leaves one trying to solve the puzzle on how they do it. What other sacrifice does one expect of people living in this condition? So in a way, it is clearly a kind of inhumanity against fellow man to keep placing a demand on him to make all the sacrifices. That is against fairness and natural justice. Nigerian governors are some of the wealthiest Nigerians for several reasons, specifically because of the funds they control in their respective states. State governors live profoundly extravagant lives regardless of unfavourable economic trend. All Nigerian state governors have security votes running into tens of millions, sometimes hundreds of millions, the dwindled allocation does not affect that. Our governors move in convoys of numerous cars, the majority of which are very expensive sports utility vehicles. Nigerian governors do not pay house rent as they live in government lodges or are accommodated at the expence of the state. No governor in Nigeria fuels the cars he uses with his own money. The generators in the government lodges, feeding and all other expenses are run with state funds. They receive allowances for virtually everything, including recharge cards for phone calls. In other words, our governors are the true beneficiaries of government subsidies. Even though this is elegantly illogical, it is the reality. In Nigeria, for some reasons, the rich, affluent government officials who do not need any form of subsidy are the ones who have everything subsidized or, more succinctly put, given to them for free and… wait for it… as a right! This is not just about governors living in lodges and not paying rent, but about certain pattern — the perception of the weaker members of the society, in this case the workers, as the ones who should make sacrifices and continue to. Can’t our governors lead by example? Can’t they put their security votes on the table? Can’t they surrender all those jumbo allowances? Can’t they reduce the number of cars in their convoys to, say, three and save serious costs? Can’t they ensure more probity with the funds in their coffers? Can’t our governors also source for ways to increase their internally generated revenue? That is exactly where we should start from! By looking in the right direction and doing the needful. President, Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has pledged to construct a 500 megawatt power plant for Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Kaduna states. In his address at the 36th Kano Trade Fair held in Kano, the executive director stakeholders management, Engineer Mansur Ahmad who represented Aliko Dangote at the occasion stated that power plant is a deliberate attempt to support local economy and wealth creation. Engr. Mansur maintained that without power industries and commerce will cripple and businesses will tremendously decline and that has been the situation in Kano for decades, saying anything to be done to revive such would have to be done now than anytime. The Executive Director revealed that they were currently discussing with the Kano State government on the 500 mega watt power supply and final agreement will be sign in few weeks to come. According to him, Dangote has been providing support areas of health and education in Kano, adding that in the next few weeks they are going to handover six out of the health care facilities built and were completed to Kano government. Engr. Ahmad stated that Dangote has constructed over a hundred borehole across the State and the theater health facility at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, MMSH, which was delayed due to design discrepancies and would soon be take off. In his words Dangote group has done quite a lot of intervention across the federation, sighting the example of Ebola case were Dangote group expended over a billion naira to control it’s spread and another billion naira support to Internally Displaced Persons, IDP’s in especially the north east. A lecturer in the Department of Public administration at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Dr Gambo Abdul, has been arrested for allegedly harassing a male student Abubakar Abdulkareem into being his gay partner. It was gathered that the student had severally rebuffed the advances of the lecturer who wanted him to be his gay partner but became agitated when the lecturer threatened failure if he refused to succumb. It was gathered that following the threat from the lecturer who is from Minna, Abubakar reported the case to his parents. Consequently, the family of the student decided to investigate further and found out that the claim of their ward was true. It was also gathered that the student was instructed to play along last weekend when the said lecturer invited him to a hotel located at Eastern Bye Pass in Minna. The lecturer made advances and was apprehended and taken to Chanchaga police division. Abubakar told pressmen that his ordeal in the hand of the lecturer started over two years ago when he was doing his Diploma programme at the University before he gained admission for his degree programme. He said that the said Lecturer was his caretaker which was why he was close to him but decided to stay away from him when he started to make illicit advances towards him. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) said on Monday
that it has deployed 2,200 corps members to Borno State for
the 2015/2016 service year. The Public Relations Officers of
NYSC in the state, Mr. Suleiman Aliyu, who disclosed this in
Maiduguri, the state capital, said: "2200 Corps members
have been deployed to Borno State for the exercise which
orientation camping is scheduled to hold between
Wednesday 25th November to Monday 14 December 2015. "
Aliyu , who said that the 2,200 corps members would do
their orientation in Benue, Gombe and Nasarawa States,
added that Katsina State had been designated to host the
forthcoming 2015 Batch B stream orientation programme.
The NYSC official however lamented that the Boko Haram
crisis which has bedeviled the state since 2011 was
responsible for the relocation of the orientation camping to
outside the state , saying the state coordinator of the
scheme would like to see the state governor, Alhaji Kashim
Shettima, grace the swearing in ceremony of the corps
members on Friday.

Why is the right hand preferred over the left hand when greeting, eating and in other cases? What is wrong with using the left hand for these purposes?. It is part of Allaah’s complete blessing upon us and the perfection of this great religion, that Islam organizes all aspects of our lives. There is nothing good but it has shown it to us, and there is nothing bad but it has warned us against it. As well as beliefs, acts of worship, interactions with others and morals and manners, that also includes our private affairs in which Islam shows us the way that is befitting to man’s noble status and the way in which Allaah has honoured him. That includes the way the Muslim eats and drinks, and so on. This is an established principle in sharee’ah: that which has to do with honour and nobility, such as putting on one's garment and pants and shoes, entering the mosque, using the siwaak, putting on kohl, clipping the nails, trimming the moustache, combing the hair, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the head, saying salaam at the end of prayer, washing the limbs when purifying oneself, exiting the toilet, eating and drinking, shaking hands, touching the Black Stone, etc are all things which it is mustahabb to start on the right or use the right hand. As for things which are the opposite, such as entering the toilet, exiting the mosque, blowing one’s nose, cleaning oneself after using the toilet, taking off one’s garment, pants and shoes, and so on, it is mustahabb to start on the left or use the left hand. All of that is because the right hand is more noble and honoured. In Saheeh Muslim (2021) it is narrated that a man ate with his left hand in the presence of the Messenger of Allaah (S) . He said: “Eat with your right hand.” He said: I cannot. He said: “May you never be able to,” for nothing was preventing him from doing so but arrogance. And he never raised it to his mouth again. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed against him so that what he claimed of not being able to do it would come true, because he was too arrogant to follow the truth and he did not observe proper etiquette with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and his excuse was a lie, and lying to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is not like lying to anyone else. This applies if one is able to eat with the right hand. But if one is unable to do so, there is no sin in that. Al-Nawawi said in Sharh Muslim (13/191): The objection to eating and drinking with the left hand applies so long as there is no excuse. If there is an excuse which prevents one from eating and drinking with the right hand because of sickness, injury etc, then it is not makrooh. End quote. To sum up what the scholars have said about the reasons why the right hand is preferred for things that are noble: 1- That is differing from the shaytaan, as in the case of eating and drinking. 2- It is honouring the right hand over the left. 3- It is using proper etiquette with people, so that one does not shake hands with them, take things from them or give things to them with the hand with which one removes impurities. 4- It is a sign of hope that Allaah will make us among those who are on the right hand (ahl al-yameen). Her boyfriend just broke her heart. She asked me to go keep her company. I went to see her; coz she was my best friend. As I sat next to her, I looked her in the eye, wishing she was mine. After two hours of having fun and hanging out, she was okay; so I left her to go to bed. Before I left, she looked me in the eye with a beautiful smile, hugged me goodbye.
