The Concubine - Elechi Amadi. Some people just have bad luck and there's nothing they can do to change it The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao - Junot Diaz. Such a heartbreaking tale of a young man but it's told in such a way that you don't get angry and throw the book across the room in frustration. Malazan Book of The Fallen - Steven Erikson. Another bittersweet book, the general sadness is interspersed with moments of laughter. What I like about it is the way it doesn't try to glorify the dead by white washing history. It just presents ordinary people doing what they can survive in a fictional world. Sure there were some heroic figures but for the most part, the book is full of selfish, lying back-stabbing regular folk. The most tragic tale I can think of is that of the Bonehunters who died unwitnessed, going to near certain death knowing no one would ever appreciate their sacrifice. Also that of the children who had forgotten how to play thanks to the horrors of war which made them adults before their time. I don't cry easily but by the time I finished I was a bawling baby. 1984- George Orwell. Sad depressing book from start to finish. No hope, no escape, no future. Just evil triumphing over good. Still get nightmares about it |

One yeye storyline like that, that radioactive spider bit her too but she didn't know abi she knew but when she died she wasn't really dead and resurrected, then she gets powers....see just forget. I think they like to mess with us, shake things up a little bit to keep things from getting stale, tweak the popular characters to see what works and what doesn't. If the fans love it, then the change stays, becomes canon and we have a new superhero on our hands, or a new version of an old hero, like Spider-gwen. Her costume is dope sha so she gets a pass in my book, don't really care. Too many spider people these days,2 spider men i know of -miles morales & peter parker, 3 spider women i think- spider gwen, jessica drew and Mary jane abi it's another one, not to talk of the different venoms....they should just not touch my favorite heroes. They recently changed hulk to one asian kid, amadeus cho, i hope it's just experimentation and it's not permanent cos Hulk is one of my favorites. In a way it makes sense, in a little way; i mean in 1960 Iron Man was Stark and in 2015 he's still Stark? Is he immortal or what? Makes sense for the person to die and pass his legacy and suit to someone else. Sometimes they try to create useless storylines to explain how the same person kept the title and it sucks Na Thanos won't change, he's the ugly one and female Thanos will be uglier  |

rapmike:Black Widower lmaoo  I get that but She-hulk is one of the better examples. The fans really love her so she'll eventually get her own movie. I actually prefer it when they create fresh heroes instead of bending an existing one or using legacy characters but in the end it's about how good the story is. She-hulk for instance, she's Bruce Banner's cousin, sexy lawyer, dying all of a sudden and only Banner can save her with his blood, only problem is there's a risk he might transfer the " Hulk Disease" to her in the process. Given a choice between that and watching her die, he takes the chance and she lives, but becomes she-hulk. Only she's intelligent all the time unlike hulk, just green all the time too, and sexy, and still a lawyer....like that it's actually not a bad story so they get a pass and she gets to be a popular hero. Spider-gwen is another example. I don't know how she got so popular, think she's the most popular behind Miss Marvel. Beats me, strange world |

Great thread! The potential for DC vs Marvel flame wars here ehn...Raalsalghul and Eapps una well done oo. Most anticipated....hmm 1.Dr Strange- so many things about it i like ; it has less hype around it for one, so the chances i'll be disappointed with it is less ; the cast is awesome. All my favorite actors together in one place ;it'll be "strange" and weird, i hope, a different type of superhero film to the type we're used to ; It can be an "Exorcism of Emily Rose" kinda movie, i pray it isn't another "Ghost Rider" God forbid ; It's about magic, who doesn't like magic? Still waiting for more? I've given enough reasons na 2. Sucide Squad ;this one will suprise a lot of people. I'd watch the shit outta any movie about villains and DC's strong point has always been the villains. ;A Joker that looks crazier than Heath Ledger?? Count me in ;Will Smith as a bad guy. I've never watched a movie where he's the bad guy before..maybe he'll find a way to be the good-bad guy you know cos he just can't be bad! ; Harley Quinn! That's all 3. Deadpool - any excuse to erase the Wolverine:Origins version is good enough for me. 4.Captain America: Civil War This and BvS have me saturated. I can't be hyped anymore i mean i'm just tired, i give up. The films should just come out already. Superheroes fighting one another..meh. Next! 5.Batman vs Superman:Dawn of Justice More superheroes fighting one another or maybe it's just Batman vs Superman, like small scale civil war, domestic violence typa thing That's it. The End. Marvel and Fox are teaming up on two Tv shows no one really cares about, Legion and Hellfire Club. Legion is the demented son of Prof X. They don't call him legion for nothing, guy has got multiple personalities, all powerful enough to rule the world, only problem is he's mad. Hellfire Club; those assholes in X-men: First Class- Shaw, Emma Frost, Azazel etc who, also want to rule the world hehe. But who cares right all the people want is F4, Kang, Silver Surfer, Doom, Korvac, Skrulls, we want them back at Marvel, like Spidey, give the people what they want na! Well at least we know what to pray for at Shiloh '15. Fada lawd... We were previously gonna get Black Panther and Captain Marvel in between the two Infinity War movies. Well Captain Marvel has een pushed back to 2019 and Black Panther has been moved forward....and we're gonna get an Ant-Man sequel! Here's the new schedule "Black Panther" - February 16th 2018 ."Ant-Man and the Wasp" - July 6th 2018 "Captain Marvel" - March 8th 2019 "First Untitled Marvel Film" - May 1st 2020 "Second Untitled Marvel Film" - July 10th 2020 "Third Untitled Marvel Film" - November 6th 2020 The Infinity War movies are still slated for May 2018 and May 2019 Well I haven't watched Ant-Man yet so I don't know if it's good news or not but I guess it is. The Wasp will definitely play a huge role just like the comics. Sad about Captain Marvel but not too bothered. Great news for Black Panther tho. The best part is we now have confirmation of Phase Four with 3 new movies in Phase 3. Any ideas on what movies we'd like to see in Phase Four and beyond? Maybe FF? |

My favourite is also from Gotg...the opening scene where we see Starlord wandering through the ruins then he brings out his Walkman and starts dancing..beautiful. And the scene in Iron Man where Tony tests the suit for the 1st time in his garage, his inexerience is delicious. And the Avengers Shawarma scene 1 Like |

Much respect OP, timely thread. Saw an ad for spiring comic writers/artists by MM. It's not easy to suceed in our enviroment and i'd advise anyone with talent to try out openings at the big foreign comic companies. Mark Millar is doing his, an advance notice as submissions will be open next week. Selected entries will be paid 90$ per page for writers and 200$ per page for artists. Not bad at all and the recognition would let the winners get a foot in the proverbial door. These guys don't care where you're from or who you are. They just want talent. All you need is a working internet link. Will be posting any more competitions or openings Marvel, DC, Vertigo or Image if i see them. MrDojo:1. Hulk. Spiderman's got nothing that can hurt the Hulk 2. This is interesting. The comic version of Scarlet Witch would have lost but the MCU version of Wanda has got Mental Manipulation powers, just like Jean Grey. So they've both got that as well as Telekinesis. Wanda's Reality Warping powers should give her an edge unless the Phoenix Force comes into play. To summarize i really don't know who would win this one. 3. Another close one but Dr Strange for me. He's resistant to Psychic Manipulation which is Xavier's primary card. The other ace up X's sleeve, his Time Control ability, is countered by Dr Strange's own Time Stone. Add the Crimson Bands and the Agamotto arsenal, no way Xaviet survives since he's fully vulnerable to magic. 4. Very close. BP is like the Batman of the Aengers;has a contingency plan to take out every other hero and Iron Man has his weaknesses. It might come down to Repulsor Blasts vs Vibranium and a battle of wits. Really close but Iron Man should win, especially if he's using Bleeding Edge armour and is in Invincible Iron Man mode. Don't know what BP can do to counter that. 5. Medusa. The Hair will strip that armour off Rhodes then she'll beat the living crap out of him. Easy 6. Black Bolt, i think. Someone back me up. 7. Cap. Easy 8.Gamora. Too easy 9. The Thing and Human Torch. Trees hate fire and The Thing will do the heavy lifting. Also Thing's invulnerable to Rocket's gun so smash dunk 10.You're right, this is not fair 1 Like |

The latest reports say that Konami is ending AAA production, except for Pro Evolution Soccer. If this latest report about Konami is true, absolutely no one should be surprised by this development. It seems that Konami will effectively end AAA video game production, except for future work on the Pro Evolution Soccer series. Even with the mega-success of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the publisher has been headed towards a mobile and gambling-only approach to game development for a while. The report comes from French site Gameblog, with further confirmation from Eurogamer. Both sites assert that Konami has stopped or canceled further console projects. Even Konami's in-house Fox Engine is in question, after technology director Julien Merceron departed the company. With the release ofMetal Gear Solid V and Pro Evolution Soccer 2016this month, there aren't any other games on Konami's slate for 2015.Metal Gear Online,MGS V's multiplayer component, launches on Oct. 6. Beyond that, the company recently announced a new installment in the Pawapuro series for PS4, PS3, and Vita in 2016. No word on whether this shift affects this release. SIRcumalot:Good to hear. You tried Joe Aberctombie's stuff, The Heroes esp. Dresden stuff is good too from Jim Butcher. Fantasy reading has been slow lately, more scifi stuff now. Keep hearing good things about Ken Liu's Grace of Kings, they say it's not your average fantasy tale which sounds promising. For sci-fi, Ready Player One and Armada if you like campy space stuff, Wilful Children for funny, Snow Crash and REAMDE for indepth sci-fi. Richard Morgan's stuff is heavy mehn. I was warned but thought it was light, passing reference and all, but i almost quit too, had to skip scenes. Good thing is his story makes up for it though The Cold Commands is beginning to drag |

SIRcumalot:Is the Al qaeda book fiction or is it a personal account? I'd recommend Heroes Die by Matthew Stover. It's from the Acts of Caine series, similar to Red Rising cos of the protagonist is a fountain of violence and they both have huge egos. Reading The Cold Commands by Rochard Morgan, page 263. 2nd in the series, good book but not as great as the 1st, The Steel Remains. Some heavy LGBT action and the plot strays too far from the interesting characters and focuses on the dull ones. Apart from those criticism, fully recommended |
