Anti-racism campaigners have blasted a cartoon in an Italian newspaper depicting Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli as King Kong
The Italian forward is reported to be deeply unhappy at the cartoon and the Gazzetta dello Sport has apologised.

A spokesman for anti-discrimination group Kick It Out said: "Mario's very presence in the Italian team is symbolic on so many levels. The Italian media ought to champion this individual rather than singling him out as a scapegoat and somehow inferior to his international team-mates."

The drawing - published on the day of Italy's Euro 2012 meeting with England - showed Balotelli on top of Big Ben in a reference to King Kong on New York's Empire State Building. It has led to a number of complaints from readers prompting the newspaper to apologise.

A statement from Gazzetta read: "Some of our readers have protested regarding (Valerio) Marini's cartoon.

"Balotelli was depicted as King Kong. We can honestly say it was not among the best products of our talented cartoonist.

@Awoloto, I think you are being unfair to Chaircover. i have followed her on here, and she does give some of the best advice you would find anywhere, if i must say so. That said, it is extremely good of you to seek answers to your problems, albeit in a forum, at least the anonimity helps in getting unbiased responses.

Now to the real issue at hand. I have not doubt that you have had enough, but to be candid, it is still not clear to me what the origin of the problem is. I think it is a bit too simplistic to reduce it to him being imature. You guys have been married for close to 19yrs, which probably puts him in his 40's. That said, I find it extremely hard to feel that for no reason what so ever he just turns against you. there must have been incidents and major issues, maybe with him or with both of you. And without having details to hand, i think you will struggle to get any sensible, honest and well measured answer on here or potentially anywhere else. Again, i ask how are you so confident that there isnt someone else?

And when did this all start? was there an incident that spark off his behaviour? haas there been infidelity in the marriage at some point? Another air disaster was, in the early hours of Saturday , averted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja when a British Airways Boeing flight overshot the runway. This happened at a time Nigerians are still smarting from the painful memories of the Dana plane crash in Iju area of Lagos, which killed more than 153 people. THISDAY gathered that there was however no injury to passengers on board the BA flight, which was flying in from the UK.

An official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who spoke to on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident. “It was another near mishap that was averted as the aircraft en route Abuja from UK landed the airport safely though,” he said.

According to him, it was in the course of taxing that the plane exceeded the runway limit because of ongoing construction work at the airport. He expressed delight that there was no damage to the aircraft and no passenger injured.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relation, Mr. Joe Obi, said: “This happened very briefly, and it is as a result of ongoing rehabilitation and upgrade works currently ongoing at the airport which involve lighting upgrade on the landing runway.”
