The Boko Haram sect denied on Monday that 20 of its fighters had been killed in a raid by the joint task force in Maiduguri the day before, saying all those killed were civilians.

A security officer said the JTF, tipped off about a Boko Haram meeting on Sunday, had been fired on when they approached the site and killed 20 "terrorists" for the loss of one soldier in the ensuing shootout.

Reuters says the sect, modelled on the Taliban, is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria, whose 160 million people are split evenly between Christians and Muslims.

Boko Haram spokesman, Abu Qaqa told a teleconference for journalists in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, that his fighters had not been meeting at the place where the military said it killed them.

"They only succeeded in killing civilians," Qaqa said. "20 of us cannot risk sitting in a volatile place to hold a meeting ... It is not possible," he said.

The Islamists have killed hundreds in gun and bomb attacks in Nigeria, since they launched an uprising in 2009.

The violence has centred on Maiduguri and other parts of the north, but has spread across central Nigeria in the past year.

Many important figures in the sect have been killed or arrested in a military crackdown that appears to have weakened it since the beginning of the year.

But many civilians have also died or been beaten and harassed in the crackdown, fuelling resentment that helps generate support for the movement.

A number of Ugandan military helicopters went missing in Kenyan airspace on Sunday on their way to Somalia to reinforce African Union peacekeeping forces battling al Shabaab rebels, the Ugandan military said.
The military said a team of helicopters had left a base in the Ugandan city of Entebbe but that only one had landed in the Kenyan town of Wajir, where they were scheduled to refuel before flying on to Somalia.
The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) did not say how many helicopters were missing or how many people were on board.
"The search is going on, we don't know what exactly happened but we are investigating it and we will let you know when I get adequate information," UPDF spokesman Felix Kulayigye told Reuters.
Ugandan troops form the backbone of the African Union peacekeeping force (AMISOM) in Somalia. The air force said on August7 that it was deploying transport and combat helicopters to Somalia to beef up the force.
Al Shabaab struck the Ugandan capital Kampala in mid-2010 when suicide bombers from the al Qaeda-linked group killed more than 70 people who were watching soccer on television, in revenge for the presence of Ugandan troops in Somalia.
The rebels meted out similar treatment to Kenya, launching a series of grenade attacks that have killed several people, in retaliation for Nairobi sending its troops across the border last October in pursuit of al Shabaab.
The AU force, which also includes Kenyan and Burundian troops, is planning an onslaught on Somalia's second biggest city Kismayu, which is a hub for the Islamist militants, before August 20.

i was browsing one day and i discovered dat my internet connection was slow, and after making inquiry from gurus, i discovered that we Nigerians are being scammed or rather scammed by the so called internet providers, meaning we are not getting wat we paid for we are not getting value for our money. Let me explain further, for instance, if you pay for 512kbs a month, instead of getting 512kbs speed, u get between 40 & 45 at most which is 1001% not good, which at least if there are not able to give us 512kbs they should be able to give us notin less than 300kbs and same to those who pay for 1mb are not getting value for their money, which is very very unfair and they cannot try that in other countries.
My reason for this post to to summon all the internet gurus and hackers in the house to stage a campaign and online protest against all these internet provides by laying series of complain and hacking their sites and letting them know that what they are doing to WE NIGERIANS is not fair.
If this was was done in othere countries and it worked i believe that i would definitely work if we put our heads together and cooperate cos two good heads & voice are better than one..

An 18-year old Diablo III player in Taiwan was found dead recently after a 40-hour marathon session with the game, reports the Australian Associated Press.

The player, who has only been identified as Chuang, reportedly booked a room at his local Internet café before diving into the game, not stopping for sleep or food the entire time. An employee of the café found him passed out on a table Sunday.


He woke up when approached, but collapsed after a few steps and was rushed to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending, but authorities noted that the long period of sitting still could have created blood clots, which proved fatal.

Sadly, it's not the first game-marathon-related death in Taiwan this year. In February, Chen Rong-yu had a fatal heart attack while playing in an Internet café in Taipei while playing online smash hit, League of Legends. Fellow players, though, didn't notice he had died for another nine hours.

Deaths in Internet cafes are rare, but happen from time to time when players concentrate so intensely on their games, that they ignore factors like the body's need for sleep and food.

Last year, a 30 year-old Chinese gamer died after staying up for three consecutive days, barely eating or drinking anything. And last August, 20 year-old Chris Staniforth suffered a pulmonary embolism after a marathon session on his Xbox.
