PoliticsBoko Haram Fighting For Justice –bamanga Tukur (PDP National Chairman) by morgist(op): 1:14pm On May 16, 2012
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has said members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, are fighting for justice.

According to him, many Nigerians feel aggrieved and seek various means of airing their grievances.

Tukur, who spoke in Abuja on Tuesday when he received members of the party from Gombe State, said there must be justice in the country for peace to reign.

He however regretted that the activities of the sect were preventing some northerners from travelling to their home states.

Tukur said there was no way angry people would control their anger when there was nothing on their stomachs.

He said, “Let there be peace in the North so that we can have security.

“We can’t even travel again because of the insecurity in the region. Boko Haram is fighting for justice. Boko Haram is another name for justice.

“People feel aggrieved. They are angry because they are hungry. Unless we remove the hunger, we too may not be able to rest.

“We should remember that a child who says his mother would not sleep will also not sleep.”

The former governor of old Gongola State said he accepted to be honoured by the members of the party from the North-East on Saturday in his village because he wanted people know that things were not working well with the people in rural areas.

He said, “People would be wondering why I took the reception to my village in Jada. And they would be asking why not a place like Abuja, where we have good roads and all that.

“I did so, so that people would know what is happening in rural areas. Those that were there must have seen the bad roads. We must help people who cannot help themselves.

“That is why we are in government. You cannot do anything unless you are committed to it. We must build this party on equity and justice.”

Earlier, Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwanbo, who led the delegation said the members came to show their loyalty to the leadership of the party.

Frendys: Let our President, GEJ note and heed the advise our former President, OBJ gave sometimes ago about managing a politician aversed to change such as the late Adedidu: OBJ said "he should be managed because no one can change him." OBJ managed the man until he died peacefully and a fulfilled man.

Buhari is now in a similar position like the late Adedibu and as such GEJ should be magnanimous enough to manage him. Or how can one explain why a man at Buhari's age should be bent on destroying the nation through his unguarded utterances. A great man has control over what he says, is objective and promotes unity while using an appropriate forum to channel his greviances, however genuine or mundane.

All these things will pass but Nigeria will remain. And more united. For even evil happening has an end.

Politics“count Me Out Of 2015″ – Buhari by morgist(op): 11:55am On Apr 15, 2012
‘I will remain in politics even though I may not contest the 2015 presidential elections. But whatever it is I will remain politically active for the struggle of bettering the lives of Nigerians. You should also look for my replacement’ …….Blueprint Newspaper April 13 2012.

We commend Buhari for his statesmanship demonstrated clearly by throwing the presidential race open for the younger generation, quitting while the ovation is high and his avowed commitment for the struggle to better the lives of our dear country men and women.

It will be recalled that prior to the 2011 presidential election Buhari made it clear that he will not contest again; warning Nigerians of the danger of missing his sterling qualities of integrity, anti-corruption and cleansing of the Augean stable if they allow election riggers to steal their votes. Regrettably this happened, hence the deplorable worst-off condition, uncertainty and hopelessness Nigerians found themselves today.

Buhari is still hale and hearty, as fiddle as a gazelle; however, it is our candid view that Buhari as a pivot and rallying point of a granite coalition of progressive political parties, not necessarily a presidential candidate stands in a better position to wage the struggle of salvaging and rescuing Nigerians from the stranglehold of Electro-phobia, endemically corrupt and incompetent Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} leadership.

Accordingly, while we shop for his replacement across the length and breadth of the country, we call on Buhari to stand by his position and lead the vanguard to vote out the PDP, without the distraction of presidential candidature; in this context he will undoubtedly carve his name in gold and enroll in the hall of fame of democracy in Nigeria.

PoliticsFire Guts National Assembly by morgist(op): 6:07pm On Mar 22, 2012
Fire broke out Thursday afternoon on the second floor of the National Assembly annex building.

The fire started in the Legal and Accounts Departments of the National Assembly Service Commission.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the FCT Fire Service deployed two fire engines to bring the fire under control before it could spread to other offices.

Panic-stricken staffers, who had vacated the building, gathered some distance away to discuss the incident.

The Director of FCT Fire Service, Sani Saidu, who confirmed the incident, told journalists that the fire incident was as a result of power fluctuation.

He said the situation had been brought under control and no damage was done

“It was caused by electrical fault as a result of power fluctuation. It was brought under control.

“No damage was done.’’

NAN reports that there was a similar fire incident at the National Assembly Annex last year on the ground floor which was also said to have been caused by an electrical fault.
The National Assembly is currently on a one week recess.

PoliticsBomb Blast At JamaÁre L.g.a Bauchi State by morgist(op): 9:58pm On Feb 27, 2012
A police station is currently been attacked in jamaáre L.G.A of bauchi state and the attackers are shooting rampantly at civilians after the blast. No casualities have been officially reported,  but local source said there are casualities.

KANO (AFP) – Gunmen hurled explosives and fired at a police station and a nearby bank in Bauchi town Monday in another of daily attacks blamed on Islamist sect Boko Haram, witnesses said.

The attack in Jama’are, a traditional emirate and town in the north of Bauchi state, occurred 24 hours after a similar assault in another northern Nigerian town in which three policemen were killed.

Residents said a large number of gunmen were involved in the attack, but were unclear about casualties.

“They arrived in cars and headed straight to the police station and a nearby bank, shooting and throwing explosives,” said Tijjani Khalifa by phone from the town.

He said residents quickly moved indoors on hearing the sound of the explosions and gunshots.

“We don’t know if there are casualties because everybody is at home,” said another resident Muktar Dan-Abba.

Members of Boko Haram are thought to rob banks to fund their activities.

No officials were immediately available for comment.

Bauchi borders and lies to the north of Plateau, whose capital Jos was targeted by a suicide bomber on a church during Sunday service.

PoliticsOkonjo Iweala Buys N1.2 Billion Abuja Mansion! by morgist(op): 7:28pm On Jan 10, 2012
As Nigerians groan over fuel subsidy removal, one of the proponents and architect of the controversial policy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has just purchased a massive home in Maitama, Abuja for a whooping N1.2 Billion, pointblanknews.com investigation has revealed.

The Finance minister allegedly paid for the property located at No 3 Nwaora close, off Gana Street, Abuja in November 2011, according to a source at the Property Management office.

Okonjo-Iweala through a United States based company owned by her brother Chi-Chi Okonjo-GeorgeTown Consultancy, allegedly pocketed about $2 Billion in commission in the last debt buy back deal under the President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

On that Nwaora close, off Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, are five massive properties with price tag between N1.25 Billion and N1.4 Billion.

The Coordinating minister’s mansion, is a 7 bedrooms duplex with boys quarters and a swimming pool, a massive Masters Bedroom with an adjacent bedroom dubbed “ Madam’s Bedroom. The mansion, which is still unfurnished, could wear a tag of over N2 billion after furnishing. It has a red clay roof.

The property is complete with top shelf marble imported from Italy, gold trimmings and chandeliers in the living rooms, bedrooms and a very expansive kitchen.

Sources told pointblanknews.com that the property was built by a popular Abuja estate mogul, and owner of EFAB Properties Limited, Fabian Nwaora.
A source at the EFAB Properties who referred Dr. Iweala as “Madam”, told Pointblanknews.com that the mansion was the first to be purchased among several others in the estate.

“Madam paid for the property long before others were even completed and so that one is out of the market. We only have the ones on No.1, No. 2, No. 4 available.”

That deal led to her sack by the Obasanjo’s administration, when he discovered that Okonjo-Iweala made tons of cash from the deal at the expense of Nigeria. She was removed from the economic team, and redeployed to the Foreign Affairs ministry.

Pointblanknews.com sources hinted that Okonjo-Iweala forced her brother’s firm, down the throats of the Finance Ministry, and even the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), under Mallam Naisr El-Rufai when she was minister under Obasanjo.

Aside from Chi-Chi Okonjo who gets multi-million dollar contracts in Nigeria without due process, through his sister, Ngozi, another very close friend of the finance minister who gets patronage is Bimbo Ogunseitan.

In 2004, She sent a letter dated March 18, 2004, HMF/FMF/003, addressed to Mallam Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai, OFR, Minister of the Federal capital Territory, saying:
“I am in receipt of your letter dated 15th March 2004 requesting an approval for a RUNNING OPEARTIONAL REVIEW ROR) on the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory’s Operations.

In your letter you stated that a consultant would be hired to review the internal organization processes of the FCT and the day to day finances of the FCT.

2. Please accept this letter as an approval for the Running Operational Review on the request indicated above.

3. Do accept the assurances of my continued highest regard.

Yours Sincerely, (Signed) Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Finance.”
Pointblanknews.com learnt that the minister As Minister of Finance under the government of Olusegun Obasanjo, Okonjo-Iweala, steered public contracts to her brother worth up to $50 million, with the help of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nasir El-Rufai, yet another WikiLeaks US cable issued in 2006 says.

The contracts were said to have been awarded to the man, identified only as “JonJon,” for consulting work for the ministry.

One day, while a blonde was out driving her car, she ran into a truck.

The truck's driver made her pull over into a parking lot and get out of the car.

He took a piece of chalk and drew a circle on the pavement. He told her to stand in the middle and not leave the circle.

Furious, he went over to her car and slashed the tires.

The blonde started laughing.

This made the man angrier so he smashed her windshield.

This time the blonde laughed even harder.

Livid, the man broke all her windows and keyed her car.

The blonde is now laughing hysterically, so the truck driver asks her what's so funny.

The blonde giggles and replies, "When you weren't looking, I stepped out of the circle three times!"

PoliticsOkonjo-iweala Begs Nigerians To Accept Fuel Subsidy Removal by morgist(op): 1:45pm On Dec 23, 2011
Coordinating minister for Economy and Finance Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala almost wept on yesterday as she practically begged Nigerians to accept the government’s proposed removal of petroleum subsidy saying that by the end of the year 2011, government would have spent N1.4 trillion on subsidy, about 30 per cent of its total yearly expenditure.

“What we are asking you Nigerians to do is to give us a chance. We know there is lack of confidence in government. We need to rebuild the trust. Even those of us in government are tired of complaining. We can’t succeed without you. Give us chance to perform and see if we can make that change”, she said.
Addressing members of the public at the town meeting organized by Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) in Lagos, Okonjo-Iweala begged: “Please give us a chance to make the difference this time. We pledge not to disappoint you again.”

Okonjo-Iweala, alongside the minister for petroleum, Diezeani Allison Madueke and the central bank governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi were at the gathering to present the position of federal government over the fuel subsidy removal.

Practically overwhelmed by the outpour of emotion displayed by members of the civil society and the audience, the finance minister had to resort to pleading with the people, urging them to see reason with government.

“Yes we know that cabal exists and it is expected that government should go after them, arrest them and send them to EFCC. But Nigerians needs to show understanding and give us chance this time around. Lets us not transmit this mistrust to the younger generation”, Iweala said.

Earlier, both Okonjo-Iweala and Petroleum minister, Madueke had put forward the argument while fuel subsidy removal cannot be sustained. According to the Finance minister, Nigeria had spent about N1.4 trillion to subsidized fuel in a year.

Madueke on the other hand said government had realized three mistakes of the past by allocating the turnaround maintenance of the refineries to outsiders.

PoliticsBlasts Rock Maiduguri, Damaturu, Potiskum by morgist(op): 1:40pm On Dec 23, 2011
Multiple explosions and gunfire rocked Maiduguri, Damaturu and Potiskum yesterday, leaving unconfirmed number of people dead in cities that have witnessed deadly Boko Haram attacks in the recent past.

At least 5 explosions were heard in Maiduguri while no less than ten blasts and sporadic gun fire were reported in Damaturu, Yobe State.
In the two cities, combined forces of the military and police reportedly had fierce shootouts with members of the Boko Haram sect.

Residents and security sources fear that many people might have been killed or injured in the violence.

In Damaturu, the explosions were heard at an outskirts settlement Pompomari, behind the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu.

The blasts in Maiduguri rocked Baga Road, Dala, Jajeri and Abbaganaram areas.

A senior official at the Sani Abacha Specialists Hospital in Damaturu confirmed that the body of a soldier was deposited at the mortuary.

“At our accident and emergency unit, as I am talking to you, we are treating about 7 policemen who sustained various degrees of injuries…I think many more are being brought,” the official told Daily Trust at about 7pm.

“We also have a 10-year-old boy in the operation theatre. Doctors are trying to remove some bullets from his body,” he said.

Witnesses said the encounter in Damaturu which started around 3pm yesterday lasted for more than 4 hours, as sounds of explosions and gunfire rent the air and thick smoke billow into the sky.

Pompomari resident Habiba Musa told our correspondent that she saw a group of armed men in plain clothes chanting “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is Great) as they walked past her thatch-roofed brick house.

“Shortly after they passed, I heard thunderous sounds of blasts. Few minutes later, I heard another one, then another one. I was rattled…in fact all of us in the neighborhood started wailing and crying but the sound of the gunshots continued unabated,” she said.

Mohammed, a resident of Sabon Fegi, told our correspondent by telephone that sound of gunshots could still be heard in various parts of Damaturu metropolis around 8 o’clock last night.

He said he saw a Hilux vehicle belonging to the army on fire.

Yobe State police commissioner of Police, Lawan Tanko, who confirmed the blasts in Damaturu, said his men had “really engaged” the attackers for a very long time.

The commissioner, who briefly spoke on the phone said, “We seriously engaged the Boko Haram assailants, and ultimately overpowered them. Most of them fled through the bush path of Gashua road.”Tanko said they were yet to ascertain the number of casualties.

But he confirmed that many houses and at least one place of worship were burnt at Pompomari area.

In Maiduguri, the first bomb went off around 5.58pm close to the Timber Market, along Baga road, and the devastating impact of the explosion shattered many buildings, including the glasses of a mosque and a store in the Media Trust regional office.

A resident of Dala, a suburb of Maiduguri, said a church was attacked in the area. “I am right now inside my house which is not more than 300 metres away from the church. There are gunshots renting the air,” he said.

Military sources in Maiduguri confirmed that members of the Boko Haram had attempted attacking JTF operatives in at least 6 places within a span of one hour.

Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye said there may be casualties as a result of the simultaneous bombings. “But the truth is that we have to liaise with various agencies to get the fact of the situation,” Farinloye said.

In Potiskum, resident Idris Driver told our correspondent by telephone that some gunmen had laid siege in the town, which is located 120 kilometers south of Damaturu.

“I heard a loud blast and I am sure it is a bomb. If you can listen carefully, you can also hear the sound of gunshots through the phone,” Idris said.

The three cities under attack last night had witnessed similar violence blamed on the Boko Haram sect. On Monday, a blast rocked a bomb factory in Damaturu, killing a suspected member of the Boko Haram and injuring 2 others.

Earlier on Saturday, a similar incident took place at Shuwari area of Maiduguri where three people were killed.
