A bomb has again exploded in the northern city of Kaduna. The explosion rocked a neighborhood at the back of the National eye center.

BREAKING NEWS: Over 7 feared dead in Kaduna explosion

At least 7 people died and many others were injured after an explosion this morning in Kaduna.

Witnesses say 2 men riding on a motorcycle hurled an object which detonated shortly after they drove away around 9:30am into a shop located at No. 32, Ogbomoso road, near Ori Apata in the central area of Kaduna. However, Police Commissioner Ballah M. Nasarawa denies that it was a bomb, saying that items from within shop must have caused the explosion.

According to the owner of the shop, Sunday Anigubo, his younger brother and three others whom he identified as Onyeka, Egbuka and an unnamed Hausa boy were among those in the shop when the explosion happened.

Sunday denied that any item in the shop could have caused the explosion as he only sells spare parts of Peugeot vehicles and lorries.

A crowd of close to 500 have converged at the scene of the incident and a police helicopter has been deployed, hovering above and conducting 'aerial patrol.'

The wounded are being taken to Rakiya Specialist Hospital, near Magajin Gari.

A total of ten shops were burnt in the ensuing blaze. Rescue efforts are continuing at the moment of filing in this report.

Mother of erstwhile President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaja Laruba Abdullahi was kidnapped from her palatial home in Idah at 6.45 pm in Kogi State and taken to an unknown destination.Sportinglife As of 8.45pm when Sportinglife spoke with Aderigbibe, no word had been heard from the gun men.

He revealed that Lulu was in Abuja when the incident occurred, stressing that the former NFF president has remained calm and wouldn’t want to discuss the issue nor does he intend to report to the police in order not to endanger the life of his mum.

Lulu was impeached last week by the Congress of Nigerian football following an early exercise by nine members of the NFF on ground of not carrying them along in the course of Nigeria’s participation in the concluded 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

scooped from Sani Lulu’s Special Adviser Tunde Aderibigbe last night that Alhaja Laruba’s home was invaded by four heavily armed men who directed those present in the house to lie face down before she was whisked away.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, raided the Accounts and Administration department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to fish for document.

It was gathered that the operatives got to the NFF office at Wuse zone 7, Abuja, at about11.00 a.m. and left at 3.30 p.m.

It was learnt that more senior officials of the NFF would soon be summoned once the seized documents had been carefully analysed.

The commission had summoned the impeached former president of the NFF, Sani Lulu, his impeached deputy Amanze Uchegbulam, former chairman, technical committee, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, and the incumbent secretary general of the NFF, Mr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba.

The governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, who has been nominated to fill the vacant post of Vice President, has been dragged before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over allegations of financial impropriety.

But Sambo who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Umar Sani, has dismissed the petition describing it as frivolous and lacking in credibility.

A Kaduna-based lawyer, Sadau Garba, petitioned the anti-graft body asking that the governor be investigated for allegedly misappropriating N153.6bn with the support of the state legislature.

A copy of the petition which was obtained by our correspondent on Saturday alleged among other things that the N1.2bn spent by the state government in hosting the U-17 World Cup championship was yet to be accounted for.

Nigeria hosted the championship in 2009 and Kaduna State was one of the states where the tournament was held.

The governor whose name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration and confirmation as the Vice-President was nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday night after he had a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party governors.

He added that the petitioner needed to be examined to determine whether his claims had any substance.

But in the petition, Garba averred that the state obtained a $17.32m loan guaranteed by the Minister of Finance from the Islamic Development Bank, but that the loan was not captured in the 2009 budget as required by law.

He also accused security operatives of acting out the script of the state government by harassing him on account of the petition.

FOOLISH HUMAN BEINGS

Manchester United won their second successive League Cup with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium this afternoon. James Milner scored an early penalty for the Villans before Michael Owen equalised for the Red Devils. Wayne Rooney came off the bench and his 73rd minute header won the game for United.

Aston Villa had a penalty in the fourth minute, Ashley Young played the ball over the top for Gabriel Agbonlahor on the left. The striker burst free and got in behind Nemanja Vidic, charging into the penalty area, the Serb recovered but brought Agbonlahor down with a clumsy challenge and the referee pointed to the spot. Milner stepped up and hammered the ball into right-hand side of the goal: 1-0 to Villa.

Martin O'Neill was unhappy with the referee's decision not to caution Vidic for the challenge, the United defender was the last man and denied Agbonlahor a clear shot on goal.

Manchester United had an equaliser within eight minutes of the opening goal. Dimitar Berbatov dispossessed Richard Dunne high on the left flank and advanced on goal. Dunne managed to get back and recover, making a good challenge on the edge of the penalty area. Unfortunately for the Villans the ball fell straight to Owen, who rifled it low into the bottom left-hand corner from 16 yards: 1-1.

Villa responded well and Milner tested Tomasz Kusczack in the 16th minute, dribbling inside from the right, the England international sold Jonny Evans with a cute step-over on the edge of the box. Shifting the ball onto his left foot, he smashed a stinging drive goalwards. Kusczack did well to parry as the ball was curling away from him.

United continued to press forward too, Park Ji-Sung combined well with Berbatov in the 20th minute, driving into the left-hand side of the box and exchanging a one-two with the Bulgarian forward. Park went for goal as he received Berbatov's flicked back-heel pass, but he didn't connect fully with his shot and it limped wide of the right-hand post.

Both sides continued to attack but chances became increasingly disparate as defensive nerves began to settle. United worked a couple of good shooting opportunities but these were either blocked by a Villa defender or were dragged wide of the target.

United managed to split the Villa defence towards the end of the first half. Berbatov flicked the ball towards Owen, who burst through into the left-hand side of the box. He pulled up just as he was about to pull the trigger and looked to have pulled him hamstring. The injury was confirmed when Rooney was brought off the bench to replace the Englishman just minutes before the interval.

United had a glorious chance to go into the break in the lead, Berbatov played the ball to Antonio Valencia on the right flank and the Ecuadorian took advantage of a slip by Stephen Warnock. He attacked the byline and drilled the ball across the face of the goal, it was cleared at the front post but only as far as Park who rattled the inside of the right-hand post with a first time shot. The ball rolled across the goal line and was cleared by a defender on the line.

United tore open the Villa defence three minutes into the second half. Park played the ball to Berbatov on the edge of the box who controlled and back-heeled to Michael Carrick. The Englishman jinked inside and unleashed a powerful drive that arched towards the right-hand corner of the goal. Brad Friedel produced an excellent diving save to push the ball behind for a corner.

Villa sprung on the break a minute later with Stewart Downing playing Agbonlahor into the channel on the left. The striker attacked Vidic and drove beyond the Serb to find space in the left-hand side of the box. He fizzed a cross-shot towards the far post but got his bearings all wrong and it zipped high and wide of the target.

Berbatov combined with Rooney in the 53rd minute to create an opening for the Englishman. The Bulgaria controlled beautifully on his chest to lay the ball off for his strike partner, who was arriving from the edge of the box. Dunne stretched to divert the ball away from the Liverpudlian before he could get off a shot on goal.

United were forced to make another change just after the hour mark, with Rafael da Silva picking up an injury as he stretched to clear on the right. He was replaced by Gary Neville, who was appearing in his ninth final for Manchester United.

Villa started to turn the screw on their opponents, and won a corner on the right. United could only half clear the cross into the box and Ashley Young had a chance to get a strike off at goal. He had time to watch the ball drop onto his foot, but he snapped at it and his shot skewed wide.

Rooney gave United the lead in the 73rd minute with yet another header. Valencia drove into the right-hand side of the box and exchanged passes with Berbatov before floating the ball towards Rooney in the centre. Under pressure from James Collins, the Englishman sent a superbly cushioned header into the top right-hand corner of the goal, beyond the helpless Friedel: 2-1 to United.

The game was almost beyond Villa in the 78th minute, Valencia picked out Rooney at the back post again with a precise cross and the Englishman powered a bullet header towards the bottom left-hand corner. Friedel was scrambling, and wasn't going to make it, but luckily for him the ball rattled off the inside of the post and bounced out to deny Rooney a second delightful headed goal.

O'Neill responded by making an attacking substitution, bringing off right-back Carlos Cuellar and throwing on forward John Carew. Villa began to go increasingly direct from this point on, and they almost prospered when Downing shifted the ball onto his right foot and sent a wondeful cross into the back post area. This was met by Heskey and his headed ricocheted off Vidic's shoulder and looped goalwards. Kusczack managed to react and tipped the ball over the crossbar for a corner.

Time was running out for the Villans as they continued to throw men forward. Dunne almost got onto the end of a Downing cross that was chipped into the back post area from the right-hand side of the box. The Villa captain threw himself at the ball but couldn't quite connect with the cross.

The return of Umaru Yar’Adua in a vegetative state, with the reality of his not being able to ever function as president, has set two of his daughters, Zainab and Nafisatu, both married to sitting governors ,at war path over whose husband will be vice president to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan. The former is married to Kebbi State Governor, Saidu Usman Dakingari, while the later is fourth wife to Bauchi Governor, Isa Yuguda.

Sources close to the Yar’Adua family told pointblanknews.com Thursday night that since reality has dawned on their mother, Turai, is set to anoint either Yuguda or Dakingari as a VP candidate that would protect the interest of the family.

It was however learnt that Turai is more disposed to Yuguda considering his role during the drama. He was in Saudi Arabia, and was later in the US to, aside from be by his wife’s side that recently gave birth, he was also scouting for a hospital that could provide better service for his father-in-law. As for Dakingari, he is seen by turai as laid back, but our source said that his wife, Zainab, is the apple of Turai’s eye.

Both Yuguda and Dakingari are among those on the list of PDP hopefuls for the coveted office of vice president

The plot to sabotage the Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan may have taken a more desperate and deadly twists as the principal actors have now put together a whooping N6Billion for the ‘stop Goodluck’ project.

On  Tuesday the Presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro in a statement said there were grand designs by those he tagged ‘ungodly and wicked’ to pull down the administration of Jonathan. On Thursday a national daily (The Sun) carried a front page smear campaign flavored with sundry baseless accusations, innuendoes and allegations all in an apparent attempt to undermine the integrity of the Acting President.

The plot, sources hinted Pointblanknews.com, is to ensure a return to the status quo( Yar’Adua),  protect their positions, avert possible prosecutions, and avoid any look in  skeleton laden closets. Pointblanknews.com learnt that between December 2009 and January 2010, billion naira contracts have been awarded or renewed by some ministers and head of agencies without recourse to Jonathan while he was Vice President. 

Specifically, a multi-Billion Dollar oil lifting contract was said to have been renewed without any presidential approval by the cabal loyal to ailing President Yar’Adua

The mind set was, Yar’Adua will be back, even if he has to be brought back wired up and in a wheel chair. This also informed the desperation by some ministers, Governors, and National Assembly members to stall the emergence of Jonathan.   

Top security sources told pointblanknews.com on Thursday night that this intensely sinister cabal has already incorporated the Power and Steel minister, Lanre Babalola. His role is to ensure a well coordinated sabotage of the oil and gas sectors.

Babalola is expected to ensure the current fuel scarcity and blowing up of pipeline does not abate.

The N6 Billion war chest is meant among others, to sponsor damaging stories, opinions, and feature articles in several media, mobilize 5 th columnist in the armed forces, and compromise some errant militant groups in the Niger Delta region. 

Pointblanknews.com had reported exclusively moves by some politicians to encourage a military putsch,  The Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), had in a statement said some of the allied groups have been approached by members of this group. The Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri said on Tuesday that she will not hesitate to prosecute the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Micheal Kaase Aondoakaa if there are evidence he has corruptly enriched himself.

Speaking at the G-6 security meeting in Abuja, Waziri disputed claims that Aondoakaa‘s interference in her office while he was the Justice Minister was the reason for his recent redeployment by Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

Jonathan, on his first day as the Ag. President on February 10, redeployed Aondoakaa from the Justice Ministry to the Ministry of Special Duties.

“I will be very bold and nothing will stop me from prosecuting Aondoakaa if he is found culpable of any corruption charge while in office. All the ministers are under my watch and I won’t hesitate to expose any of them who is found wanting,” the EFCC boss said.

She pointed out that the Commission‘s primary objective now was the fight against corruption by political office holders.

“Issues of theft is now common; that is why we are clamouring for special courts so as to facilitate cases that do not have to go through rigid processes,” Waziiri said.

“The EFCC will continue to clamour for special courts so that justice could be quickly administered on matters that demand urgent attention,” insisting that “Justice delayed is justice denied.”

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, stood down a motion moved by Foreign Affairs Minister, Ojo Maduekwe seeking to declare President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, sick, incapacitated and unfit to continue as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Rather, the body, all appointees of the sick President nominated five ministers to visit President Yar'Adua in Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the visit is not yet known as at press time.

The ministers scheduled to visit Yar'Adua includes: Minister for Petroleum, Rilwan Lukman, Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Prince Kayode Adetokunboh, Secretary to the Government, Ahmed Yayale, Agric Minister, Sayaad Abba Ruma and Foreign Affairs Minister, Ojo Maduekwe.

ENCOURAGED by the no-nonsense posture of Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, some interest groups from strategic quarters in Nigeria have started mounting pressure on him to purge the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of corrupt members.

Some leaders of thought drawn from across the federation, as well as representatives of Pro- Yar’Adua/Jonathan support groups, were part of the interest groups who, investigations revealed, had been pressu-rising the acting president in the past two days to effect a major cabinet shakeup, at least, in the interest of the nation.

Besides, some aggrieved civil servants, Nigerian Tribune learnt, had been compiling reports of corruption allegedly perpetrated by some ministers during the absence of ailing President Yar’Adua.

The groups pushing for a major cabinet shakeup, according to findings, had stormed the Presidential Villa on the day Jonathan took power as acting president and had used the historic occasion to suggest to him the necessity to rid the current government of ministers perceived to have been exceedingly corrupt.

A top civil servant, in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, described some of the current cabinet members as mindless in the manner they had been amassing wealth, as he hinted that some of his colleagues across ministries had resolved to intimate the acting president that the ministers were corrupt.

He also said the reports being compiled on corrupt ministers would not be sent to any of the anti-graft agencies, especially the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on the excuse that the calibre of individuals involved would hamstring the efforts of the agencies in moving against them.

According to him, it was imperative for the acting president to get first hand information on how the activities of the ministers, so that Jonathan would be able to decide whether or not they should be prosecuted.

The top civil servant said the memos so compiled against the corrupt government officials might be routed through competent civil society groups known with anti-corruption disposition in order to effect great impact.

On assumption of office, the acting president effected a minor cabinet shakeup. The mild cabinet reshuffle had, since, been applauded in different circles in the country.
Daunting challenges ahead

Acting President Jonathan has said there are daunting challenges ahead of the country, but expressed his determination to ensure that the nation surmounts them.

He said this on Thursday, when he received members of the Senate leadership, led by its president, David Mark, at his official residence in Aguda House, Abuja.

Jonathan thanked mem-bers of the National Assembly for their courage in moving the nation forward, in spite of the heated debate occasioned by the absence of Yar’Adua, while assuring them of a harmonious working relationship.

According to him, the business of governance was collective and all arms of government must work together in the interest of the nation and within the ambit of the doctrine of separation of powers.

The acting president also told the Senate leadership to expect executive correspondence shortly, while he urged all Nigerians not to relent in praying for the quick recovery of President Yar’Adua.

Earlier, Senator Mark congratulated Acting Pres-ident Jonathan on behalf of the Senate and pledged the cooperation of the upper chamber to him.

Mark prayed God to give the acting president the courage and wisdom to lead the country in the right direction.

Senator Mark was accompanied by his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin; Chief Whip, Senator Mahmud Kanti Bello; Minority Leader, Senator Maina Maaji Lawan; Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora; Minority Whip, Senator Ahmed Yerima; Deputy Majority Whip, Senator Mohammed Mana and Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Acting President Jonathan swore in 17 newly-appointed permanent secretaries and charged them to live above board and uphold zero tolerance for corruption, which, he said, was the guiding principle of the administration.

The swearing-in was held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he admonished them to bring their experiences to bear in all aspects of duties and accept responsibility always, as accounting officers of ministries, departments and agencies of government.

While advising that all necessary actions must be taken to ensure good working relations with ministries that had more than one minister and avoid being agents of division and rancour, Dr Jonathan charged them to give their ministers the required cooperation and support to ensure smooth and effective running of government.

“I have no doubt, therefore, about your competence and readiness to satisfactorily hold the office. It is a privilege for you to be called to service at this time as we go into the crucial last lap of this administration. You are expected to bring your experiences to bear in all aspects of your duties and prepare to accept responsibility always,” he said.

Acting President Jonathan congratulated the new permanent secretaries who scaled through what he called a rigorous process of selection aimed at ensuring that only capable and qualified persons emerged.

The new permanent secretaries are Faruk Baba; Sheik Musa; Awosika Josephine; Mohammed Lawal and Wiloughby Olukorede.

Others are Odusote Abimbola; Mohammed Sambo; Aliyu Gusau; Daudu Jalo; Olorunfemi Nathaniel and Ibrahim Gaya.
