SA will be very safe during the WC as long as you keep to the crowd and don't venture to notorious areas, don' carry or flash a lot of cash around you. Like I said stay with the green white green crowd. They will be all over the place.

AS for match tickets. you can only collect them once you arrive. i will be picking mine up at the airport once i arrice. If you haven't bought any you probably are not going to get any good ones at this time

however there will be fan fest viewings in huge parks so not to worry youwill still get the same atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone so far who has given advice. I only have two weeks to go before I fly into Lagos and spend some time with my friend. I am very much looking forward to learning about another culture and hopefully making some new friends.

Just a few things I have noticed on this forum, not just my topic but many others, it seems the responses start off well and then some people get a little sensitive and before you know it the topic has become a slinging match between bloggers.

You will be fine when you get to Lagos or Abuja as long as you have someone with you who will show you around, similar to if you were going to Egypt or Morroco for the first time.

There are usually a lot of people who blow stuff out of porportion to scare you or make you jittery., pay dem no mind. I can bet you will have a lot of fun especially in Abuja,

Teslim there are a lot of my friends from lagos who are going to the WC. Don't mind that buffon lamenting he think say naija people poorlike that. The main reason you don't hear people say they are going tothe WC is because as usual naija people don't like to divulge their travel plans from  for fear of set up, bad belle or juju. Tis a customary behaviour for a Nigerian not to tell you his plans before he does something or give you wrong dte of when him tdey go somewhere.

As for me I will be at the WC. I will be flying out from Abuja on the fifth of June, will be chilling in England for a while and then off to SA for the Naija/Argentina Match by Gods grace.

Although the significance of this being the first WC on african soil is certainly not lost on me. America/europe hosting is not the same as Africa hosting.

Believe the SA's would complain if it were even an African artist who sang it nor do they realize this is a sampling of a classic African hit song. Imagine the girl in the video asking Zuma to do somethin about it. Wetin Concern Zuma for this matter.

-it's okay to have a foreigner collaborating, it shows its a global event

Personally, I think FIFA shoulda asked a SAcan to do it, just to avoid drama and to allow Southafricans to showcase their talent. Shakira doesn't need the publicity, it would've been better served giving it to a local artist.

And going by the two videos you posted Morpheus, Shakira's song is very nice and well done (including the accent and pronounciation of the local tongue), however, Knaan's/Bisbal's song is simply riveting, fantastic! definitely more deserving to be the official anthem.

I agree, knaan's song has a more inspirtional feel to it.

SA's too dey complain, though I get their point. What if the song was sang by K'naan, would they object as well cause it wasn't a South African singing it.

Shakira's song is actually a sample off an old Camerounian group Golden sounds which was popular in her home country columbia. I remember the group from my early days. see them below
