Politics / Re: Ghana's Plan To Chase Out Nigerians - Classifies Ecowas Citizens As Expertrates by Moves: 3:25pm On Oct 07, 2009
This is a wrong move that should be condemned in totality, why be a member of Ecowas when you are not willing to play by the rules, They cannot do so whilst they are part of  Ecowas, I expect Ojo to take up the gauntlet, atleast he is experienced enough , where is that stupid AGF " I dont Care" when you need him, he should be reading ghana the riot act,

As an aside can anyone tell me if Ecowas treaty was in place during the "Ghana Must Go" era, cos it might be a pay back time ,

Politics / Re: How Ribadu Plotted To Sack Yar’adua, Says Ibori by Moves: 3:46pm On Sep 30, 2009
Ibori & his PR's are just plain silly, we nigerians are not stupid, ibori has not denied looting delta, has he?,
Whilst I dont think Ribadu is a saint, he fought corruption in nigeria, whether for his own selfish reason, doing OBj bidding or Ethnic reasons,
What I dont understand is the $15 Million bribe that has been deposited with the CBN, Both Camps, EFCC, Ibori & Ribadu all agree that the money was deposited  with CBN by Ribadu, All agreed,
Can someone please explain this ,
1.IF Ibori offered Ribadu $15 Million bribe and he deposited with CBN as evidence to prosecute him with, It is either Ribadu is worth more $100 Million to refuse such a $15million bribe,  If as Ibori stated that Ribadu wants the IG position , Is the IG position > $15 million cash or enough reason to refuse the bribe, or Is Ribadu Honest ?

2. Or did Ribadu just deposit that money $15million to plant as evidence against Ibori,  Where did he get that Kind of cash from, if we believe Rueben Abati, and others that have seen ribadu recently there is no indication of one with wealth.

Even though personally, I am disappointed by Soludo's intrusion into politics, as I feel he would better serve this nation as an interlectual figure following the likes of Wole Soyinka and Aluko being that he has actually served as CBN governor and leaveraging his technical knowledge in economics with his first hand experience as CBN governor.

Nope, I disagree, this is the same kinda of thinking that got us where we are today, that we had late Adedibu , an illiterate calling shot in a state that is home to some of our foremost academia, lets us not discourage anybody from seeking to serve the country, let us not leave our future in the hands of criminals & upstarts as they decision they make or fail to make affects us,
It doesn't take too much intelligence to know that Soludo was actually talking of transorming Anambra's trade credentials while boosting in to international standards.

The most funny part is that many of you are responding to the title of this thread when Soludo's words were actually "Dubai of Nigeria." Meaning Anambra will be to Nigeria what Dubai is to the middle east. undecided
This ,when considering Nigerias standards will not be a huge achievement.
GBAM, this is what I have been trying to make people see, what's the big deal,

This is why I feel Soludo is not suited for politics, most people and I mean 99.999% don't reason on his intellectual level . He would need to break down his statements and actions for people to understand rather than assuming that they get what he is saying or doing(like you would need to do when talking to kindergarten kids.). This was his weakest point as CBN governor not to talk of as a politician.

Well if it is the need to work on his communication skills , dont think it should be too difficult a task, he just needs to revert to pre-Cbn gov soludo, but seriously o not want him to win, I would vote Ngige, But It bodes well for Anambra Polity to have people of such calibre contesting, hence puts pressure on the winner to perform as they know that a competitor is waiting in their wings, this is where Obi has let himself down, VIPtoilet, Imagine if he had performed like fashola is doing in lagos, it would have a lot easier for him,

Kobojunkie:

Soludo has NOT mentioned he wants to focus on TRADE. Soludo has NOT stated what he intends to focus if and when he becomes Governor. Soludo HAS NOT made his plans known. Soludo only said he intends to TRANSFORM anambra to Dubai. That could be interpreted by readers in anyway but SHOULD NOT be confused with the man’s actual Plan. We can wait for him to better explain his angle please.

Have you really been objective in your criticizing this man though? Below is the line from the article.

No mention of trade. You have essentially turned your take on the statement to Soludo’s fact. See, no mention of TRADE, or all you have alluded to so far. Do we really need to stretch these things to make em work for us? Would you have done the same if a NOBODY with a proven track record, say as a civil servant, announced he was going to run for governor and made the same statement?

We are both making assumptions, and am clearly stating what I see as the basis of his vision to want to transform anambra to dubai, the common thing the 2 hqave in common is TRADE
Business / Re: I Will Transform Anambra Into Dubai - Soludo by Moves: 4:58pm On Sep 27, 2009
Kobojunkie:

But dude, you are, right here, showing why he actually might coast to victory on that statement. I mean the man is reported to have only mentioned that he wants to transform Anambra to Dubai, but you have already created this elaborate interpretation of that simple statement there, putting in every positive spin you can. And then we have someone else stating we should all wait till he is governor before we question what he actually meant by that statement and how he intends to accomplish it. Are you sure I am the one over stretching things here?

The current state governor made it on the back of “claiming to fight against the problem”.  He turned out to be no better, in my opinion. The man stood against some f the same gladiators and won.  So, what makes you think that believing this man might win on his Dubai dream and possibly just the one statement he has made so far is a stretch? I mean a lot of people, probably ignoring the recent revelations in the health of our banking system, already consider him a “hero”. So, why is it farfetched to think he might win just by the one statement considering folks are already explaining it away right here on nairaland.
To say that he might win one the basis of that one statement, is not just ridiculous but an insult on the level of intelligence of the anambra people, I know in nigeria, people's vote may not count but that is a different arguement, Its not Amala politics abeg,
Also, my attempted explanation is based on the premise of whats is the big deal in turning anambra into dubai in four years, if you look at my previous post you will find out that i have earlier stated that all that is required in turning anambra into our own dubai is the provision of world class infrastructure which, in turn meets the basic needs of the people, Just like Duke had the vision of turning calabar into a tourism destination, the attendant effect and impact is still visible in the provision of infrastructure in calabar

Kobojunkie:

Trade improvement in the last 10 years has yet to help tackle the basics and you are suggesting the government continue on the same path? Haven't the poeple waited long enough to get their basic needs met? How much longer for this lofty dream to be achieved and then the citizens can finally have basic needs met?
That is not Soludo's Fault, Are you suggesting he abandons trade and focus on making anambra the eastern barbados , ala toursit destination, He is doing the best thing in focusing on the strong factor of the state and as you mention using it to meet basic needs of the people, We also complain of continuity, hence he is aiming to do so, @ kobo, you are making me sound like a supporter of soludo, am not I prefer Ngige by far, because I think soludo is sort of elitist, IMO, but i will be objective even when criticising him,

Kobojunkie:

OH COME ON!!! Now you are just over stretching the statement. Come on!!!
Not at All, When the Princes of Dubai , decided to make dubai the #1 Trade location in the MiddleEast, The Invested in world class infrastructure and are still doing so, so if soludo has the same vision for anambra, dont see it, as far fetched, seriously you are the one over stretching the statement  by saying he might coast to victory on the back of that statement,  a state that is full of internationally recognised gladiators and not so recognised gladiators,

Kobojunkie:

By the way, trade in Anambra has seen tremendous boost over the last decade alone and the poeple know this. Does selling them more of the same really work when the basic needs are still left unmet?
You are correct that his statement is open to different interpretation, and open to questions, which is what I prefer, The Above shows that following the line of thinking, the Dubai inference on that would be creating world class environment like dubai to boost, encourage and sustain Trade , the means investment in worled class infrastructure, roads, transportation, water, power etc  in so doing the said basic needs will be meet,

The average kini?? Roflmao!!! Are you for real? I seriously disagree with that claim there. Kai!! How many of the average folks on the street know much of the history of the Dubai plan? Even lots of folks in dubai do not know Dubai for trade. Please!!!
Ok, I will go a step further and say that to an average Nigerian woman  Dubai is  a trading place, tell any average nigerian woman  that you are going to dubai, they will first ask you if you are going to buy jewelry or clothing  accessories for resale=TRADE, thats is the reality in nigeria, majority dont see dubai as a tourist destination,

Kobojunkie:

Visionaries are a dime a dozen in Nigeria. We have never lacked them. We have simply not been able to get visionaries with the ability to turn their ideas into reality. Ask people who have experienced Oshiomole, and others like him around that country.
Well in Soludo's case he has shown his visionary qualities and actualisation of the vision ala recaptilisation exercise, even his worst critic s give him props for his vision on this count, howbeit his follow on action or inaction are still being debated,
Business / Re: I Will Transform Anambra Into Dubai - Soludo by Moves: 3:06pm On Sep 27, 2009
Kobojunkie:

Funny thing is the man DID NOT mention anything of this being about Trade. He simply said he would TRANSFORM the state into Dubai. How does that imply trade? Dubai has never been just about trade so why is this mention of Dubai ONLY about the trade aspect of Dubai? By the way, Anambra is not the only state where trade is of importance. Most all other eastern states can be described in the same way.
The Average Anambra will sees Dubai firstly as a choice trading location, and generally that is what dubai initially stood for, until recently the emmergence of its tourism and hospitality sectors, Also there is no other market that rivals Onitsha in the East, So I do think in the context of his audience the choice of comparison is more than appropriate, Soludo is not my choice candidate, , Ngige is tested & proven but would rather Soludo , emerge from the PDP than Uba, Either way one chooses to look at soludo candidacy, from his last outing at the CBN, we can all agree that he got some policy right , whilst getting some wrong, ( the extent of his cupalbility in the current banking crises is yet to be determined, mervin king is still the governor of bank of England  grin) We cannot but admit that he has some visionary qualities as that is what is lacking the nigeria today, visionary leadership, Although Previous Performance is no guarantee for Future Performance , same goes for Ngige as well,

Wow, Nigerians and they way we reason, Why is it so difficult for some people to understand what Soludo said is figurative in speaking, Anambra will always be Anambra cos of it uniqueness, What exactly is Dubai, mainly a trading & business destination , why is it so difficult to fathom that Anambra can be the Dubai in the sense of a large trading center & business destination when it Already has Onitsha Market , which is readily one of the largest market in Africa,  All that is required is good infrastructure , ala roads, transport system, water, power etc, He didnt mean the building of huge skyscrappers like dubai , Following what Fashola is doing in lagos, wont say 4-8years is too small, It is achievable, Anambra just needs world class infrastructures whilst retaining it own uniqueness to become a world class trading hub, which is achivable with focused leadership,
Politics / Re: Soludo Finally Declares His Anambra Governorship Ambition by Moves: 1:17pm On Sep 24, 2009
@ Babalawo, Did you read thru the list of applicant for the PDP candidature, On that list there is no better option than Soludo, Whichever way, we either have Ngige, who I prefer or Soludo , who I think would be good and Obi, who I can live with, than having some thug like Uba, Just like in Lagos, There was Fashola, and most lagosians I know prefer Jimi Agbaje, a seasoned banker and a better orator than Fashola, So please Soludo in the PDP is not bad, and are you not aware of all the allegations of Tinubu , chopping away still in Lagos under Fashola, It just that because people are seeing improvements in governance that there's isn't much outrage, Is rotimi Ameachi not from PDP, Be real, there is no difference between any of Nigerian mainstream political parties, either in terms of governance, internal democracy, embezzlement, thuggery etc,

What that tells me is that the CBN Governor does not understand that the EFCC has no role in this issue yet and even refused to seek wise counsel on the issue before acting. If that does not worry you Jarus, it does worry me a lot.
