Politics / Re: Personal Income Tax Reduced By PITA Ammendment? One Of The "Palliatives" by Moves: 5:37pm On Jan 05, 2012
netotse:

@xavier
the figures are per month o, if you earn 3m a year you still fall under the 0 - 300k band, so you're paying less P.A.Y.E. na the armed robbers wey dey earn above 3m a month don enter one chance

@ Netotse, If the figure you quoted is per month earning; then it renders gbawe's calculation useless, and I think it is a good measure ; as most people agree that Subsidy benefits the few, due to corruption in the system, And something along this line was  suggested by Thisday editor a while back if there was away to give the money to the masses instead of the few who get rich by playing the system.

@ Gbawe, N50k rebate in tax going by your calculation is equivalent to 200 pounds, not  sure people on PAYE anywhere in europe are getting such, and inflation has been well over target, rising food cost, Gas, Electric and Petrol cost, So while not saying it is the best solution for subsidy removal, but it is sure a decent palliative for those who will be hit by the effect of subsidy removal.

See another dumbo follower. Pro-retardeen never stop amazing me. So if Abati talk on behalf if GEJ, no be president he dey represent. Buhari would definately have disociated himself from the statement if he isn't for it.
I tend to ignore people like you; whose ability to reason has been grossly eroded,
Yinka Odumakin is a southerner- Buhari is a northern leader; perception is that Boko Haram has tacit backing of the northern political elite, Codemnation of such dastardly act should to be meaningful should come directly from Buhari himself {simple enough}
And Also the last line of Odumakin's comment blaming the FG of lacking in capacity was low; uncalled for; an not what you would expect for someone of Buhari's standing. Read about 9/11 and compare Bill Clinton's, Al Gore and democrats response and actions.

@ ahanohai: I have been there. The best thing for you to do is cut your losses and run. Trust your instincts. Be wise. You cannot generate the amount of self promoting posts on the web and be productive. Good wine needs no bush.

On July 29, 2011 I wrote the following: WARNING: DO NOT hire any builder based on internet postings. It is just like internet dating: the picture you see might be different from the person you will meet. Expenses here have been seriously understated and experience overstated to entice the gullible. Look in your extended family first, then ask for recommendations from your friends (who built successfully), your church or mosque, etc. You have been WARNED.
Your post is totally unnecessary, in bad taste and baseless; If truely you have handled any project; your will know that what is happening is quite common in most project; project over runs/delays, increase in cost are quite common- It doesnt mean fraud and the client even admits that the contractor under estimated the project-- which is so easily done especially in nigeria, example is compare the cost of cement at the start of this project to its present cost, so slow your roll;; enough people have lost millions sent to your suggested relatives with little or nothing to show for it.

Note it is also acceptable and expected of the client {Ahanohai} to be angry and dissappointed; and the blogging of his project affords him a unique oppurtunity to air his views; the manner in which the contractor resolves the issue will determine my judgement until then I reserve my comment. To {Ahanohai} as someone who has renovated a few properties here in the UK, all I can say is to please give brabus a bit more time, and I hope that at the end of the day you will be happy with the end result.

Properties / Re: The Real Cost Of Building A 6 Bedroom Duplex (reloaded) by Moves: 7:57pm On Sep 12, 2011
@ Ogbefi,  another Option could be to aim to build a 2bedroom flat at the back of the plot which you can move into and live in; use the remaining money to complete the foundation of the 4flats; and you can continue as your cashflow increases. This is what I would do if I was in your situation except ofcourse you are confident in being able to do what it takes to do stuff like Spyder880 does; which my friend would be quite a feat; but impossible is nothing.
Travel / Re: Nigerians In Ireland, how are you Coping With The Recession And The Eu Bailout? by Moves: 8:20pm On Jul 20, 2011
@ Overblood;
And how many Irish live and work illegally in the US,  Last I checked the Irish government was lobbying the US for some sort of amnesty for the Irish.
Check the Live register stats,  http://www.cso.ie/releasespublications/documents/labour_market/current/lreg.pdf
You will see that in June 2011- Irish National =379,027 -- Others= 14,431 (this is the group for Non EU- ) So Non EU- make up less than 5% of the population on benefit.
Even assuming that Nigerians make up half of the Non-EU numbers; which is highly impossible considering there is a large Congolese / East African/ Indian /Pakistani /Chinese Communities; it would still be like 2% of people on benefit - And newsflash as non Irish you are require to have worked and paid tax for 2years to be entitled to the above.
Get your facts rights - The Irish have been milking the Irish system and stop trying to blame it on Nigerians.
As per child benefit- Its is for the child-- every child gets it, Bono's and Bertie Ahern's children will get the same even though they are well off, and looking back few years, you will find that the Irish tend to have large families.

The government should allow market forces to determine rent; just like it is happening in Lekki - Ajah axis; This rule is easily circumvented; especially where demand is more than supply; A landlord can easily demand more as security deposit.
LASG makes billions from lands usage; if those revenues translates into more affordable housing, then there wouldn't be any need for such laws,
Aside not all populist laws are beneficial, what protection does the landlord get in cases of tenant defaults etc.

Politics / Re: "We Are Not Slaves" -Coca-Cola Pay Nigerian Day-Workers $2.60 Per Day? by Moves: 12:06pm On May 18, 2011
This is so wrong in every manner, And for those trying to blame the government solely for this and stating that Coca cola is acting solely within the ambit of the law, are way off mark; ever heard of Fairtrade; the kick against Nike sweat factories- this were initiatives focused on getting a better deal for the people in countries where their government dont care, Coca Cola is a big brand; all this requires is CNN picking it up and swiftly this is issue will get the attention it deserves to be resolved especially when they are making so much money. Fairness and Social justice is what is needed; Is it fair for Coca Cola to pay a labourer N400 per day when a labourer working in Ajah on a building site could get similar pay. Fairness not Exploitation. Coca Cola does not need the government to pass a law for it to treat it labourers fairly. And No it is not Capitalism it is Exploitation.
Politics / Re: The Nigerian 2011 Elections-An Opportunity Lost?by:Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai by Moves: 1:36pm On Apr 20, 2011
Elrufai goofed with his analysis, that he choose to put the loss down to rigging is wrong and a total fallacy; In all pre-election analysis nad permutations of the regions; what regions outcome was different; what analysis was the driving force of CPC campaign strategy and what was their expection of voting patterns for each region of the federation. This for me is where El rufai should have started his analysis from rather than joining the cheap bandwagn of we were rigged out ; most especially if he sees himself as the heir apparent to Buhari.

It was An Opportunity Lost- Analyse it; learn from your mistake and move on, if truly Buhari believes the cant get justice in courts or wont bother, he should have accepted the result congratulated the winner and set to work to make sure that PDP is uprooted from the North. The Longer this troubles continue in the north, the more CPC brand is being damaged with the same cloak of Islamist Fanatic; Northern Interest only paint that Buharit was painted with.

What am perved about is what happened last week saturday was not too distant from the NASS election especially in the North. Even in the SW although PDP was voted out, they still commanded high votes and in some states like Ogun, their loss was occassioned by infighting rather than better opposition performance ; PDP still remains a powerful force that it will require constant performance from ACN to keep them at bay, PDP won a rep seat in Ikorodu in lagos last year.
Politics / Re: Tinubu Gave S’west Votes To Jonathan - Yinka Odumakin by Moves: 7:44pm On Apr 19, 2011
@ LagosBoy, You question on why Tinubu didnt not mobilize for Ribadu; would you? After Ribadu has agreed to step down; the news has already filtered out to people; then CPC got greedy and alliance collapsed, even Ribadu came out to state that his candidancy has been damaged - even Ribadu himself at this stage wouldnt spend his funds on Mobilization. ACN knows that it presidential candidate was never gonna win without an Alliance; hence it has been negotiating the alliance deal from the onset; the last condition was for each party to use the NASS election to test their might , superior party get the Presidency in the alliance; ACN carried the day and still gave into Buhari candidacy cos it believe in his clout in the North; only asking for a VP position in the Alliance; All that was required would be Buhari+CPC leadership and Ribadu+ACN leadership going on live TV on Monday morning to announce the alliance and stating that ACN will take the position of VP if they win the election, not telling ACN to take their word for it; words given in a secret meeting. I bet Buhari got deceived into believing his own heap with Bakare as VP and Yinka Odumakin as having clout and his candidacy was popular in the SW.

Politics / Re: CPC Statement On The Violence In The North by Moves: 10:25pm On Apr 18, 2011
Am I surprise that Buhari has failed to go on air to call for calm; Absolutely Not- Remember during the YarDua saga- he kept mute; Now the North is burning because he perceived the election was rigged; Over 24hours since the trouble started he is still keeping mute. Tony Princewell does not have the air of those demostrating so he might as well have kept his gob shut.
Politics / Re: Here We Go Again: CPC Rejects Presidential Election Result by Moves: 8:10pm On Apr 18, 2011
What Results are they Rejecting, The SW; NC and Please dont mention SE & SS; cause if they reconduct the election in those 2 areas; with what we are seeing from the north yesterday and today; In Rivers where Buhari got 16000; when the registered voters turn out was like 70- 80%; the Voters turn will be closer 98% and he will now get less than 10000. He lost the election in the SW, end off.

I am sure that there exist more than 16,000 each of Hausa, Yoruba in Port Harcourt ALONE.

How on earth did he get only 16,000 votes in such a cosmopolitan city like PH, not to talk of the entire state of Rivers?
We both dont have the real figure of the bolded, so wont bother taking you up on that. The Yoruba's that failed to come out enmasse in the SW; or the 189,983  that BB could only get in lagos, where bakare church members are in thousands; lagos which is uber cosmopolitan than PH , he got 10%, so him scoring less than 1% in rivers is no big deal as he scored 1.3% in Osun SW. What BB fans are failing to admit is that BB lost this election in the SW. BB was never expected to mking a showng in the SE & SS.

1) Buhari got 16,382 in Rivers, And am even surprised he got that much,
2) If it was IBB the story would have been different in the SE &SS
3) When Compared to the Number of registered Voters then It is not that great.

Did the SW also rigged for Jonathan?; people keep forgetting that Buhari and CPC have nothing on ground in this regions SE + SS; Unlike the North where PDP is in power in most states; So their are people who will vote for PDP across party line.

Ileke-IdI:

Are you saying that the failed alliance cost Buhari?

Ofcourse, It doesnt require a genius to figure that out. The SW was the key in this election; Buhari had North Jonathan south; SS + SE. Leaving out SW with lagos having the largest vote and the ACN lamblasting Buhari for the failure of the Alliance did not endear him to the ACN faithfuls that bothered to go out and vote. All Jonathan could have asked Tinubu was for ACN to stay neutral. As ACN will never publicly align with PDP.

Kobojunkie:

^^ has it been confirmed that the President is switching cabinet members then?
KoboJ are you admitting that your BB Failed or more kindly Lost?. I guess him lossing out massively in the SW is an eye opener; Truly feel sorry for BB fans Buhari's rigidity cost him. FFS what was required was just a sacrifice of a VP post that is mainly ceremonial as long as the President is not invalid. A simple televised press announcement with ACN leadership and stating that they are going into alliance, and if they win their current VP candidate will resign and buhari will choose 1 of the 3 candidates presented to him by ACN of which Tinubu is none. End of Story. Nope he wanted something for nothing;especially after seeing the result of last week; which was an eye opener to all 3 leading parties; prompting Jonathan to send emisarries to ACN; whilst Buhari did same with meeting IBB; Atiku and Gasau. Atleast most nigerians can say we had an election and not a selection as previous occassions.

Politics / Re: Alliance: Buhari Tackles ACN by Moves: 6:26pm On Apr 15, 2011
And some pro Buhari people will want us to believe that Military Buhari is different from the current Buhari; ACN made required sacrifice to wrest power from PDP; asking for a VP position is even asking for too little in the scheme of things; All that was required was for Buhari to give a press public press statement to that effect in announcing the alliance. Problem Solved, but know either Buhari or his adviser or his VP was not willing to make such concession.
Politics / Re: Will Fashola Join PDP Or Will He Overthrow Tinubu In ACN? by Moves: 7:37pm On Apr 11, 2011
Whats all the hype about; Lets wait till atleast 2014 to start making connotations; for all we know fashola 2nd term maybe a disaster; Let him deliver on the Six lanes lagos badagry express; the Light Railway; if not 4th mainlain bridge atleast extend Mile 12- Ikorodu road to Four lanes whilst maintain similar of service delivery in other areas as obtainable presently, then we can talk; The above list project will show that he was able to conquer atleast the transportation monster facing lagos state. IMO
Politics / Re: Pdp Appears To Be Popular In The South West ? by Moves: 12:22pm On Apr 11, 2011
Is PDP the issue or its the Candidates ? The South West can never belong to one party fully, it is not in it DNA, most especially not with Tinubu at the helm of its affairs; ACN popularity in the southwest is due to Fashola, and not Tinubu as the likes of gbawe would have us believe, In a free and fair election; the southwest will reward the performers and punish the failures. Tinubu in AC had to result to agbero tactics to beat PDP, in a free and fair election, fashola brand defeats the PDP without any under arm tactics.
Politics / Re: Cpc Lost Nass, But Presidential May Be Closer by Moves: 12:08pm On Apr 11, 2011
Nigerian politics it just so ethnoreligious based, I thought before the NASS people said the issue was PDP, That most Northerners and Nigerians dont have issues with jonathan but the PDP he represents; now its seem with the NASS election; the issue is no longer PDP but Jonathan, as the new logic is CPC Musa vs PDP Moses; so if it was CPC Musa vs PDP Atiku; it is gonna be PDP. And the sadest part is that the enlightened ones, dont see anything wrong in this line of thinking and people are not ashamed of putting forward such ethnoreligious logic.
Politics / Re: All Hail Tinubu . The New Undiputed Heavyweight Champion Of The Sw. by Moves: 11:07pm On Apr 10, 2011
@ Gbawe; Tinubu is no New Undisputed Heavyweight Champion; let him contest a position against fashola in lagos and you watch him see him demistified. He should have tested his might by substituting fashola as we heard, but himself realises that power belongs to the people; It should be all hail the resident of south western nigeria; in their fight for the best. Alot of people Vote ACN for known achievers like Fashola; known names like Oshiomole and Fayemi and not because of Tinubu. Tinubu may gain political mileage for backing a winning house,  thats all ; nothing more; There's nothing to hail him about cus his 8yrs as gov, doesnt bear the hallmarks of "The New Undisputed Heavyweight Champion".
Or Better Still Praise the ACN, never Tinubu

Jimmy Boy:

Nobody said BB is infallible, Obama makes mistakes regularly just like any other human being, but you must have acted in good faith and the action ought not to  swell your wallet or that of your party members. Innocent mistakes are allowable.

But thieves can not enjoy such grace, I have heard several PDP cheiftains saying openly on TV that they stole or rigged but nobody touched them.

1. In Oyo state, Late Adedibu  said on TV that he impeached former Gov. Ladoja becuase he does not share the sate security vote with him.
2. When Joshua Dariye was arrested, he categorically stated that the money(N500m) was the money contributed as requested by the Party.
3. Uba said openely that they rigged Anambra elections, did anybody raised a finger against him?

So how can any sane person ask this party to continue to be at the center?

I am on my knees begging you guys, even if you dont like BB vote for any other person but not PDP

@ Jimmyboy what people are saying is that you BB fan's especially kobo, on this issue is trying to justify the unjustifyable, Buhari was wrong in cancelling the project and his excuse almost 30years too late is not tenable. No need to revisted history, He should have just apologised to lagosians and that would have been better, not so different from IBB saying he cancelled June 12 in national interest. Also I would not vote PDP but neither CPC, ACN all the way.

@Kobo; during recession like you said projects are still carried out; but given priority based on their importance, The UK even with cuts brought some important infrastructure projects forward; Same thing is being done in Ireland, they are bringing the metro North project to start 3 years early, this is a country just being bailout out earlier in the year. Jakande had the vision to see the importance and believed in it and its benefit whilst Buhari was shortsighted (Although other Ulterior motives have been suggested) hence he cancelled the project, The Interview by Jakande is on page 2 or 3.Pls read it.
Politics / Re: Why I Cancelled Jakande's Lagos Metroline, By Buhari by Moves: 1:27am On Apr 08, 2011
@ Kobo, what more details is required; the two principal actors have spoken on the issue; buhari - said he cancelled it because he didnt want to guarantee a loan on the project because of our debt profile at the time; hence I believed he erred and that reason is not tenable IMO, are we to believe that the best gov lagos ever had was ignorant of the country's debt profile , or the financiers of the project. Have you read Jakande's interview posted above; Project cost= N700million; 10% advance and the rest is 90% is federal govt guaranteed loan. Jakande delivered on all his projects; 25 yrs down the line he still believes in the viability of the project. Furthermore are we to assume that with buhari as presido, we are not going to borrow if needed for infrastructure; being truthful the if the cost of the project was among the debt we later had to pay off; even Buhari would agree now that it wouldnt be such a bad thing; compared to paying off debt for funds embezzled.
Politics / Re: Why I Cancelled Jakande's Lagos Metroline, By Buhari by Moves: 12:55am On Apr 08, 2011
Guys; the issue is being drifting to PDP excesses in the last 12yrs compared to Buhari cancelling the lagos metro project, That is just confusing issues;
a, The Argument is did Buhari. err in cancelling the project?
For me; the answer is yes he did,
b, Is his reason tenable?
Nope- Absolutely No; the sane thing who have been to just apologise for erring in the past;cos I believe he never envisaged a time like this when the populace would query his action as C in C.
Politics / Re: A Passionate Call On Mallam Nuhu Ribadu To Step Down-(open Letter) by Moves: 7:16pm On Apr 07, 2011
I totally disagree, It should be the other way round, we are looking to do away with the past that has failed us and you are here asking the future to step down for the past. Your argument that Ribadu is surrounded by corrupt people holds no water; El rufai who spoke at the rally is still in court for alleged corruption; what about Buba Marwa and the Son of Evil and corruption personified Mohammed Abacha, Buhari should step down, we have in Ribadu an anti corruption czar which is the reason alot of people allude to for supporting Buhari. Ribadu and Adeola have accomplished themselves in their field.
