Politics / Re: Jonathan Increases Power Supply By 1000mw: by Moves: 6:09pm On Apr 05, 2011
Kobojunkie:

@Poster, you go ask them where the 1000MW come from . . . abi why we too dey act like mugu? If the man no build power plant and if Yar adua himself no build power plant, how can they add what they did not even invest in?

Let me help you . . . remember when Obasanjo left office in 2007, and we knew that the man had already invested money in the construction of power plants but many of them needed to have gas delivered --- essentially for the federal to sign a go ahead for that to happen? Remember it was left to the Yar adua administration to simply supply gas to the plants signed and contracted by Obasanjo? Well, it took Yar adua and Jonathan this long to accomplish what they promised they would do as soon as they got into office. So, how in the world are we now giving credit to Jonathan for work they should have done in credit to Obasanjo? Let's stop letting these people deceive us with their lies!

Agreed that the IPP's project were initiated by Obj, what the OP is simply giving credit to GEJ for doing in 1year what YarDua failed to do in 3 years- He choosre to spend the better part of 2years to prob Obj power project- and suspending futher investment or funding of the power projects, If Yardua has followed through the projects initiated by Obj- Nigeria would have been in a better place with both Power and Rail sector.
Politics / Re: South West: Between Ribadu And Buhari by Moves: 8:20pm On Mar 29, 2011
And In the writers opinion buhari has no blemish, I would rather vote Ribadu, maybe than Jonathan vote than vote buhari, to me he's had his chance and blew it, His actions whilst president tainted him with anti -south sentiments.
A. Locking up Ekueme VP whilst shagari is kept in ikoyi luxury of house arrest.
B. In some quarter his coup is considered a scripted plan by the northern cabal to truncate the emergence of an Igbo president.
C. Furthermore having been given a second chance as head of PTDF he blew it as it is on record that a disproportional amount of PTDF project was based in the North ).
D. During the YarDua debacle, he kept silent, whilst the likes of Ribadu, Col Umar and El rufai were shouting from their roof top.
E. If YarDua was alive buhari would still stand zero chance against him, Y couldn't  he pull such crowd during 2007 elections against a fragile and mostly absent yardua ,

F. Why is his campaign now seemingly better funded and being able to pull mammoth crowd and logistics matching Jonathan Multi Million campaign fund, did he just receive his pension payment; if he never stole a dime as he will want us to believe- then how is his campaign funded (mohammed Abacha ?) If we say that jonathan is using state fund, Ribadu ACN & Tinubu, Buhari - Abacha's stolen fund, even though he was on record of stating that Abacha never stole,
G. Outside contesting for elections- what does he spend his time on during non electioneering period, one cannot compare Ribadu's outside office and buhari,

Let him know that having bakare as VP means squat, His should quite the stage for Ribadu if he actually has the interest of Nigeria at heart , Am not deceived about his new found popularity, this is mainly due to Anti PDP sentiments and the Northern pro zoning elements, Its about time we have a generational change and leave the ex - generals. I rather take my chances with Ribadu than buhari; I rather GEJ with his docility  than Buhari ,

Nobody stopped Buhari from Striking a deal with Tinubu, There is freedom of association, deal with it guys, Am tired of people having one set of rule for BB or Ribadu and another for GEJ.
As it stands in an free and fair election GEJ is the candidate to beat; and I believe he is going to win, I won't vote for him as he is not my 1st or 2nd choice.
The failure of Buhari and Ribadu to merge for the collective good of so called progressives; shows them as not being too different from GEJ. If the socalled collection of thieves in the PDP can reconcile after some much bile and threathening fire and brimstone to protect their own interest; It would have been instructive if the progressives where so inclined to protect the interest of US the people. Without the Alliance lets be realistic they can't beat GEJ\PDP in a free and fair, Jonathan\Sambo has already traversed the country whilst Buhari or Ribadu are yet to start,

Will it Kill Jega/INEC to give all stakeholders are real live demonstration of the registeration process and let them bring their IT experts to confirm and analyse its effectiveness, I see nothing wrong in his asking, atleast if we get it right now will save us headache and money in future,
Trust in Inec Voters register is very important- there is a need to demonstrate to all stakeholders that the system will do what it is supposed to do , and data Integrity is functional; For those chatting poo about databases, data can be compromised in any DB, hence assurances required by the stakeholders that this DB works.

POTUT:

This will work fine in the State capitals and places like Warri & Aba. I bet you the remote LGA DO NOT have MTN/GLO offices.

We might as well save our breathes for complaining. It is a systemic problem. can we all stop to imagine for one second the following:

1. that NIPOST had evolved organically since Independence 50 years ago.
(Many people even in the hinterlands and valleys would have access to surface mail using REGISTERED P.M.Bs & P.O.Boxes that are close to them)

2. that FRSC had a reliable database since 1991 of our drivers licenses
(All persons 18 and above who drive would be known, finger-printed and face scanned every 3 years on expiration/renewal cycles)

3. that Land C of Os (for land ownership) were duly registered all over the country
(All persons rich enough to own land would be known)

4. that Birth & Death certificates were being tracked
(Of all the above, we would be able to identify new, active and inactive records and annotate as appropriate)

5. that our International Passport was being issued diligently by NIS
(All persons in the Diaspora would be known)

6. that NECO & JAMB (which are FULLY Nigerian Exam Bodies) students was being properly administered and recorded
(All our secondary school students sitting for the exam and becoming undergrads would be known to have reached voting age)

There are more Points of Reference, but the foregoing are just a few. The icing on the cake is that INEC would only need to constitute a SYNERGY Committee across board and using simple VENN DIAGRAM/SET THEORY, compile an accurate and up to date VOTERS REGISTER.

When the register is published, all persons who did not see their names on it can file a complaint and the same Synergy Committee would annotate as appropriate.

Are you all with me?

It is not that they dont know the above, but it wont make them money, we have an Identity management centre but it is under utilised, That said biometric scanning in itself is time consuming and attempting to do it with untrained staffs. makes it more difficult, experienced this whilst scanning for the nigerian passport,

The most important thing am looking out for is the Data Integrity, centralised collation to ensure that it One man One Vote , the pains of registering and amount expended would be wasted if this is not achieved or abandoned midway, Cos knowing naija politicians and there desperation, One Biometric could be used for 10 names, All the other issues can be excused at the teething problem of a developing nation and a nation in technological  infancy

Good Move, This is what u get from a free market economist, as Aganga, For those who are shouting for the ban to be kept, check the history of prohibition in the US, it same result as we have now with the ban, The Ban has been on since 2005, if any manufacturing outfit has been producing lets say toothpick, If it is successful and of good quality then it will be very difficult for imported toothpick to compete with it already gained custom base on both quality and cost, Same goes for furniture, An Imported furniture lets say 3 piece suite leather sofa , of decent quality will cost in the region of $1000, import cost + expenses will probable add another $500-$1000.(total $1500-$2000) , this price range for a sofa for the socialist amongst us Immediatley excludes 70%-80% of nigerians, Whereas with the old policy this sofa will find its way into naija with any income to the government with the new policy government will make something from it, It will also endanger quality improvement for manufacturers as they can either choose to be the price leader or quality leader, Dont see any downside to this,

Even as it is early days, I must grudgingly admit that it appears as if Jonathan is giving the Judiciary a free hand . Mr. President will be aware that a State lost to the ACN is another blow to his own 2011 Presidential ambition. For most Nigerian Politicians , there is no bigger incentive to arm-twist the judiciary than selfish personal ambition. On the other hand , this may not have much to do with GEJ . He may simply fall short , in comparison  to OBJ et al , as a consumate bruiser and bully.
Am 100% in Agreement with you on the above,

Gbawe:

He has not really gotten his way when he has attempted unpopular actions because other politicians have matched him .
We have all see Jonathan being undemocratic and opportunist like most politicians . For that reason I am loathe to believe he is now an unbending adherent of the rule of law. Tinubu and the ACN may simply have ensured they countered the PDP , under GEJ , effectively.
Whilst I understand your reason for the above , your being in the Anti Jonathan camp, neither am I pro Jonathan , I disagree with the above aspersion on Jonathan being undemocratic and opportunistic, give example please, and the Ekiti matter doesnt count as YarDua was PDP leader at the time of the whole debacle and unless madam Ayoka tells us otherwise the blame lies with YarDua + Dora, You cannot in our breath say Jonathan has no political clout and in another accuse him of spearheading Election rigging in the SW and no less place as Ekiti, you know who the actors were in that election, ala Oyinlola video,

Kobojunkie:

Transcript Of Henry Okah's Interview On Al Jazeera

Henry Okah: On Saturday morning, just a day after the attack, a very close associate of President Jonathan called me and explained to me that there had been a bombing in Nigeria and that President Jonathan wanted me to reach out to the group, Mend, and get them to retract the earlier statement they had issued claiming the attacks.

Total Lie, His house has been searched before the Bombing,

They wanted to blame the attacks on northerners who are trying to fight against him [Jonathan] to come back as president and if this was done, I was not going to have any problems with the South African government. I declined to do this and few hours later I was arrested. It was based on their belief that I was going to do that that President Jonathan issued a statement claiming that MEND didn't carry out the attack because they were expecting a kind of retraction from the group

Rubbish- The president said that nobody should hide under the banner of MEND or ND to commit a crime, It is on record that MEND has accepted Amnesty , thousands of its member had disarmed and are being paid welfare benefit,  You cant in one breadth accept that MEND has accepted Amnesty and say they are still fighting, So the president was right in his statement,  All the known leaders of MEND have dissassociated themselves from the attack bar Jomo Gbomo\Okah,  And Most ND are against the attack,  If criminal elements who were members of the now disarmed MEND, can it be said that MEND carried out the Operation, Should we now then be arresting known members of MEND, people should just use their common sense,  The resurgent bombing in Northern Ireland after the Good Friday Agreement are not attributed to the IRA , but to dissident republicans or a newer group Real IRA,

Aljazeera: So just to be clear, why do you think that political aide was asking you to ask MEND to make that retraction? What was the reason for that?

Henry Okah: They don't want it to seem as if Jonathan does not have the support of his people, you understand? For months now they have been lying to everybody that everybody is so pleased with Jonathan, that he is going to bring peace to the region which is entirely false.

This attack now was actually going to be a great smear on his aspiration. They just needed the group to retract that statement which was why I was contacted. But I declined to make any such move.

Rubbish- No Presidential Candidate has the Total Support of his Region, e.g OBJ,  GEJ doesn't require the whole of ND to support him,  Am not even a GEJ fan and am almost writing an epistle to defend him,  Okah's action and that of the IBB camp and the Ciroma camp will all but tilt voters towards GEJ,

Aljazeera: As far as MEND is concerned, what is the situation with MEND, because Goodluck Jonathan is trying to say that this group is not a problem anymore; the previous president had tried amnesty and rehabilitation programmes, can you give us a summary of what the situation is with MEND?

Aljazeera: Are you saying none of these concerns you have are been addressed by the government?

Absolutely none. With Yar'adua it was much better. He had a good understanding of the problem. And regardless of the fact that he was from the north he was making good attempt at addressing these problems. But with Jonathan it is entirely a different story. He doesn't know what the problems are and is also being tele-guided by other people, you know, who are giving him very bad advice.

Absolute Rubbish- As others had said - by the time the amnesty was signed till date all actions like the training and rehabilitation of Militants; Releasing of substantial budget to the NDDC and Ministry of ND where all the works of GEJ,  I hate it when idiots like Okah's distort facts to achieve their own ambition, and rubbishing the whole country and the office of the presidency,  really, jonathan needs a fani-kayode type of person, to take on idoits like this and the ciroma's group,  this GEJ guy's seems too docile,  If GEJ needs to railroad his opponents none of this guys will come out of EFCC or ICPC investigation clean, IS it IBB or Atiku or Saraki,

Aljazeera: So Henry what do you think is going to happen to you now?

I don't care, I really couldn't care. But one thing I tell you for sure, is just like I was able to talk to you, it only shows that South Africa is not like Nigeria. In Nigeria I was held for one year and four months in solitary confinement. I didn't kill anybody, I had no books, no newspapers, no TV, no radio, not even electrified. But the fact that I can speak to you on phone, even though I am being detained, shows that I am in an entirely different country from Nigeria.

And I am arrested here at the instance of Nigeria, which threatened the South African government with diplomatic action if they didn't arrest me. That is the only reason why I am in detention. All those people I learnt have been arrested in Nigeria I have no contact with any of them, I don't even know them.

They are just trying to do this thing, to point the finger at other political opponents in order to scuttle their attempts at being president. But as you see I am not a politician and I have no any business with any of the other aspirants for the posts of president in Nigeria. I have no connection with them. The story that I have been given a lot of money by different politicians to do one thing or the other, but I promise you I don't even have that kind of money myself. I don't have money.

@ Ibime, I think you are missing the point of the Argument, An SS President is an Oppurtunity that has presented itself , Should the ND discard because of an agitation for True Federalism and Resource Control that is no closer to being achieved since 1980's, Like others had said, Whilst Yardua was dying non of the socalled Northern Leaders spoke up, they allowed us to be ruled by the a dying man because he is one of them and they stood by him in unity, one wonder the north ruled nigeria for so long, cos they are less divided than the south, There is nothing to say that an Atiku or IBB presidency will benefit the SS more than a GEJ presidency, And going by IBB past , It is even more highly unlikely, So I would rather test GEJ than any of IBB or Atiku or even Buhari cos this guys have had the oppurtunity to better the ND and solve the ND issue,

@ Those saying that Jonathan description of zoning is wrong, 2 Points he raised is not being addressed by you guys,

1, Is zoning between North and South or Between the 6 Geo Political zones?;;

2, Is the Presidency zoned before the primaries??  What are the evidences of this?? because Jonathan's explanation seems to be based on the evidence of what had happened in the past, atleast 2003; and 2007 presidential primaries.
Politics / Re: Pdp Never Zoned Presidency -jonathan by Moves: 10:16am On Sep 28, 2010
“There is the concept of zoning and rotation in the PDP constitution to encourage power to move from one part to the other and it is not limited to the office of the president. We will read from that section that from the least office (from councillorship to the presidency) PDP will encourage rotation and the issue of zoning. PDP does not zone the presidency but PDP zones offices they have absolute control or reasonable control over. The fact also is that the chairman of the party, deputy chairman, secretary, these are offices that PDP has absolute control and normally PDP will zone.”

He said further: “The office of the president and other elective offices like Senate Presidency, Speaker and National Assembly officers, PDP have reasonable control as long as we are in the majority. Those offices could be zoned. But, before you zone those offices, the president and the vice-president would have first emerged. I am saying this because I was involved.
“If you take the situation of the 2007 election for example, when Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and myself emerged, we met. Ali is here, he was the chairman of the party then, the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, our late president, myself, the secretary of the party then, Ojo Maduekwe, and Tony Anenih, we sat then down in the Glass House.

“The North would have a president who is from the North-west, we have a vice-president who is from the South-south, then, where should we place the party chairman, then we decided it has to go to the South-east. Where do we place the Senate president, we decided it has to go to the North-central. And now we zoned all these other offices. These are offices that PDP has some reasonable control. But before you zone them, the president and vice-president first must emerge.
“If you look at the tradition of PDP, after zoning those offices, if for any reason any of them resigned, then you call on that zone to pick a replacement. That is why when (Vincent) Ogbulafor resigned; the party had to go to the South-east to pick the current chairman (Okwesilieze Nwodo).

“When Patricia Etteh resigned as Speaker of the House of Representatives, the party had to go to the South-west. The party did not just go to the South. So, if anybody is making that argument, then of course, he can only say ok, the North-west, then, nobody from the North-central zone can even aspire to the presidency or the North-east. PDP operates on the six zonal structure.
“But, if you ask yourself, some of the other aspirants we are talking about, where are they from.

It is also good to get things right. That we like to credit Idiagbon for the war on corruption DOES NOT REMOVE FROM the fact that it was all under Buhari's watch. I like to get people thinking on what really happened back then. This was a time in our history when we had a PRESIDENT accept he did not have all the answers, move aside for his second in command to lead on most of the important issues resulting in the change we all noticed in that nation. That was good leadership, if nothing else. That Buhari was able to accept the ideas of his VP and actually let him, Idiagbon, have such opportunity to change things his way, shows him the sort of leader we need now, and not later.

Now, I am not campaigning for the man but from what I see, he seems to best candidate considering the Ribadu's and the Goodlucks all seem to be running on their popularity(Goodluck because of the way he has risen up the ranks without even needing to lift a finger but only align himself with the baddest of the bad; Ribadu rising because after years of enjoying safety under Obj and doing OBJ's bidding, but suddenly cut down by Yar adua and made hero by some as a result), and link to the big names(crooks mostly) and nothing else.

Yeap, I credit Buhari for allowing his vice to function, such is very uncommon presently, I would vote for Buhari ahead of Jonathan and the rest but not ahead of Ribadu, cos I feel it is time to do away with the old generation (not neccesary based on age) espcially as had been president previously, In ribadu we have someone who I believe has seen the two sides of the coin as you mentioned and as a result has matured, As I believe having gone through what he went through months before going on exile and being on exile are experiences that I deem makes he a better person,

He fought Corruption, The Argument that he only fought Obj enemy doesn't hold water; where does people corrupt , answer is a resounding YES; and how do u determine who is Obj enemy, Only Obj can tell, so me and you would just be postulating on who Obj's perceived enemies are,  cos to me Obj No 1 enemy is Buhari, Atleast the dude was on his case for almost 7ears; didn't see Ribadu arresting him, next inline is Ken Nnamani, senate president that presided over the shooting down of Obj's 3rd term project, So he fought corruption, what about the non politicians, 419'ers that the EFCC dealt with, Was about Tafa Balogun, the guy succeeded in creating a perception that corruption is being fought and you just can't embezzle money without no one bating an eyelid, That perception alone is worth more than actual conviction rate of corrupt people, brand perception in marketing terms,
