No serious Medical Scientist works for a numbskull ego-fragile physician for a long term basis. I have never worked for any. I can't stand empty-headed idiots. I've met physicians who don't even know the value of Quality control.

I have colleagues who run clinics and hospitals as CEO in Lagos, Anambra and Imo. One was a classmate, a Med lab Scientist and he employs physicians. He has a hospital, pharmacies and medical laboratories. The physicians are happy to work and he pays them what they are worth and they don't bicker. He won't raise their fees too because they have PHDs and postgraduates certificates.

Calling me all sort of names is not fair to me. I've not insulted u before, though u take out time to haul insults at me. I am used to it any ways. And Johesu used their 40day plus achieving nothing but cursing Doctors.

Sadly people should know that this dude is Nwaamaikpe. At last Nwamaikpe has been exposed.

Nigeria is a wonderful country though.

That's d position we have in our teaching hospitals now. A union AGONSA, for graduate nurses have been formed, and they are showing to be more vengeful than even Johesu, spitting fire and reminding everyone that they are graduates nurses with 5yrs in school. Their proposal for nursing to be 6yrs and DNSC degree is almost at the last stage. They are also agitating for freedom to practice without supervision, the so called N-practitioners. The country just entered the real soup. It's time to call for a state of emergency.

All this misdemeanours are ravaging in Nigeria because of the economic system. When a johesuite go home at d end of d month with 150k and yet it doesn't solve financial issues he/she feels like the extra 30-50K for doctors will make him/her rich.
I have 2 colleagues from sec school working as medlab scientists in all saints university of medicine but they have no problem with a doctor being CMD or pathologist heading d lab because their pay is appreciable.
If u trace the agitations of johesu you will see its not just mere academic title or headship issue but poverty. Johesu should not try to tresspass relativity what they should do is that both parties(johesu n NMA) work together and fight for proper renumeration of health/medical worker across board. Ofcourse relativity is not evident only in Nigeria but even Britain where we got our medicine from.

I differ bro. Johesu's biggest problem is not finances but indiscipline and corruption. Doctors are also going through financial crises. Indiscipline, inferiority complex, greed and jealousy has constituted a complex mesh that only dictatorial rulership can solve.

BSC nurses are refusing to wear white uniform, asking for Uniform allowance. I am sure the problems will compound till a state of emergency and fresh job appraisal is done in our health sector.

Resently a PharmD refused to sit with other Pharmacist in the NYSC dispensing cubicle. His greviance was that he should be with the Doctors scrutinising rationale for Doctors prescription. All the Ds in this title will definitely cause professional disharmony. A NurseD will tell u she won't take orders to do dressing.

However, with all due respect, even if records start a Doctorate of 9years, MBBS still remain the king and any effort of upgrade other courses will lead many frustrated. I won't add a penny to the salary of my Lab Scientist even if he brings Consultant MLSD-PHD. These rubbish is only geered towards the Civil service.

PharmD, MLS.D, DPT all been approved by NUC as minimum academic benchmark for undergraduate suggest grey areas that needs to be exploited.

Try and follow the news. Health workers scale surpassed Doctors scale in 2004, because health workers were on CONTISS, while Doctors were on the normal Civil service scale. This injustice had continued unstopped for the past 20yrs.

In 2004 Doctors tried to negotiate their case, and President Yaradua, God bless his soul, saw clearly the mistreatment of Doctors and approved Conmess, this Conmess necessitated the formation of Conhess, and every health worker should be thankful to Doctors for this. Instead, they want to go behind to earn the same thing as Doctors that heralded their Conhess. Bunch of ingrates!

Collective bargaining actually means we all sit down on a round table and bargain pay. So NMA must be part of the cohort, or work done equals Zero.

Pathology is a study opened to Medical Scientists. It is not a title like 'physician' and 'medical Scientist' which are protected by law.

MBBS is like the lion. It's the king of the health jungle and nothing will stop it. I have been blessed having that degree to start and every other certification I have was based on that humble yet rich and irreplaceable beggining. You can call us both medical or clinical scientist which depict the kind of lab they work in. The US uses both terms interchangeably medical laboratory scientist (MLS) or clinical laboratory scientist (CLS).

The MDCN act gives Doctors the right to own, and run Labs and MDCN to regulate Clinical Labs . I have never and will never pay a dime to anybody to run my hospitals Lab, because I know my rights.

Even these labs you've mentioned were only recently accredited by MLSCN (which they gladly put on display) with ISO 15009 status (does that tell you anything?). They can be headed by anybody (choice of preference) but when it comes to the law, it must be followed to the letter.

A Medical Doctor who decides to become a primary school teacher has no business complaining he spent donkey years in school, since his donkey years has nothing to do with that Job. Same way if a Scientist confines his role to bench work he shouldn't be asking for the same pay as a neurosurgeon because he has MLSD added to his portfolio. Same trend with nurses agitating for DNSC, I wonder which private firm will employ a Doctorate nurse to make their bed and give medications. U will agree with me that BSC nurses and RNs have no difference. In fact when they go abroad there is no special treatment. They write the same exams and enter the same per hour entry pay scale.

U mentioned MLS becoming a Neurologist but blamed it on Autocorrect, the same way u said MLS can now be pathologist. I have never said MLS job is restricted to the bench, however, several Scientist have refused to explore other areas but hold on the bench as their do or die. BMLS was fought to a stand still by doctors for so many years (reason being that they don't require university education) until 1993 when it was fully approved but commencement was further delayed. Just as some of you are already having sleepless night and trying to fight the MLS.D degree.


Sorry to say you are still mediocre even till date you were a technologist during your time but we no longer are. Over the world we've moved from the mediocre techo you called yourself to an advanced scientist. MLS isn't a Nigerian thing (that's my joy).
