In Ondo, the state chapter of AMLSCN had the guts to seal a pathologist owned lab. The seal was removed and a fracas ensued, as thuggery is a silent weapon of Lab technicians. Thank goodness the Nigerian mobile police were responsible enough to arrest those hoodlums parading as union leaders. They never went close to that Lab again.

Nigerians will get wiser soon. Many are. A patients said "Doctor treat me jare, when I visit the lab now they will either say it's staph, coliform or Candida, I can't waste my money on them again"

Just to clarify this johesu is not asking for equal payment with the medical Doctor, My Dad is a johesu member earns 28,500 naira as his monthly salary , if government can adjust the new salary scale ,his salary will be 32,000. Please how does this equivalent to what a medical student earns? With the present economy of our country , is it normal for a group to instruct the federal government not to increase the salary of some workers? Despite, this has no effect on their salaries. Sometimes we get the whole staph story wrong. Staph can be a normal flora of the skin, but sometimes we could have infectious strains. Staph causes majority Skin, bones and Soft tissue infections, and in ur case have a boil (a skin infection), it is reasonable to say staph myt be implicated.

However, Staph does not cause poor eye sight, weak erection, poor mentrual flow and the likes. When people have these, they should seek specialist care and not visit the Lab. I have seen dozen of patients falling for these scam and I can only wish that the goverment is more responsible in combatting quackery.

Staph doesn't cause all those things u mentioned. Any lab putting a swab stick in ur vagina and claiming staph is a scam and judgement day awaits them.

If u are having reduced periods and decreased menstrual flow, see a gynaecologist and get sorted out. Staph doesn't cause any of that. Funny how Nigerians have a problem and then visit the wrong place for help. There is no where in the world that permits one to walk into the lab and do a culture except Nigeria, even Rwanda is now better than us with 98% health coverage.

Nowhere in MDCN act gives it the power to accredit medical laboratory practice. The court have said so therefore it remains illegal for physicians to accredit a medical laboratory when they don't even know the constituents of Leishman stain or even the working principle of Gram stain reaction. Can a Nigerian owned lab go to India or Australia to set up shop without accredition from the proper regulatory bodies like the AIMS because it is 'International' as it has crossed the border?

Your physicians are responsible for rot in the laboratory system, they held sway for many years in that sector until the MLSCN act was enacted by Nigerians asking you to go back to your consulting rooms (your primary constituency) and stop killing patients with fake laboratory reports so the Scientist who is trained in the principle and methodologies of running a proper laboratory can take his rightful place as that's what he is trained for.

Oga go to the National judicial library and peruse the original copy of the MDCN act. What is written therein is laboratory practical. I repeat professional practice is not school practical and the Courts have affirmed this against the physicians. Even in the school practical it is the Scientists that teach the physicians in training.

It only says you can learn 'Medical laboratory PRACTICALS in medical school.

Practice and practicals are different things entirely. Scientists went to court, argued it and won.

The reason why many of you are not in jail is because ministers of health who are always physicians always intefere with inspectorate jobs of MLSCN, PCN, Nursing councils to give you guys a soft landing. In one word 'impunity' is the reason why your illegalities thrive.

Who head hospitals in the UK, Lab scientist or nurses? If u cannot affirm that either does, then why fighting to lead hospitals here. For re-emphasis hospitals are either Doctor led or administrator led. These administrators are not medical staff but professional who have Bachelors and postgraduate degrees in administration. Thankfully such courses are not fully in place in Nigeria, so Doctors should continue leading for now. Also, research has it that Doctor led hospitals perform far better, again John Hopkins and Mayo clinic are glaring examples.

During my internship I witnessed a patient die through administration of wrong blood type by a house officer. That blood was crossmatched by a physician (pathologist) working in the laboratory during call.

In another case, a house officer administered a wrong drug preparation on a patient with hepatitis at the emergency and the patient died within few minutes. His senior colleagues told the relatives he was brought in late, called the HO into the office privately, scolded him and made him understand he killed the patient, they also asked him where he graduated from. It was dramatic but how would I feel it were my relative I asked myself.
I was privy to all these because I was posted to laboratory at the emergency.

There are so many cases such as these and the day Nigerian patients start asking real questions about the death of their relatives in Nigerian hospitals such as seeking second opinions and litigations. Many overglorified charlatans who call themselves physicians will be cooling off in jails for professional malpractice after losing their licenses.

Everyday u take ur lies a notch further. Lies don't last for long phase 1. Doctors are drivers of the industry and will remain so for eternity.

You are a bloody lying loafer. A colleague currently working in Baltimore, Maryland registered and wrote his ASCPi to practice as a Medical laboratory Scientist while here in Nigeria.
Another friend recently migrated to Australia after writting and passing the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) exams as an Internationally trained Medical Scientist. Infact he moved with his family. But many physician travel from nigeria but go over there to seek pharmacy assistants and phlebotomists job to keep body and soul together while they struggle to write and pass exams.

Despite over 44days of rest by the JOHESU members, they resumed yesterday with the most unprofessional undertone ever. While many strolled into work lackadaisically, others took their time to haul insults at clients seeking for direction. Doctors where not spared as they received their fair share of hostility from these support staff.

Johesu is a group of amorphous workers tagged Joint health sector Union, they include all workers in the hospital including cleaners, drivers, Engineers, accountants , except Doctors. The group is antiDoctor and was set up to create a rather hostile environment in the Nigeria hospital and has so far kept to that aim. The unholy union had held the Country to ransome for nearly 2months until being issued sack threats by the government. Other ways the Union seeks to crumble the health sector is by lobbying players in the NUC and government to grant all ancillary courses undergraduate Doctorate so as to tussle with Medical Doctors for leadership and pay equality, despite having different condition of service and professional rating.

It is now or never that the nation, stakeholders and government will rise up to tame this monster they have condoned for almost a decade.

Let them keep talking. An organisation that seeks to milk out the remaining sanity left of health care in West Africa.

There is a dept of medical Microbiology and it's different from Clinical Microbiology. Medical Doctors are thought by Consultant Microbiologist, that list is the biggest fluke of the century and the poster should be flogged 20times a day for 3 years.
