Apple is reportedly evaluating a plan to offer iPhones
with screens ranging from 4.8 inches to as big as 6
inches. A 6-inch iPhone – which would be two inches
bigger than Apple’s current iPhone 5 model – would fall
into the so-called ‘phablet’ category, being the same
size as the Acer Liquid S2 and fitting in-between
Samsung’s 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 and its 6.3-inch
Galaxy Mega.

Devices of that size are not expected to appear among
the ones that Apple is unveiling next Tuesday.

However, a report in The Wall Street Journal indicates
that Apple could be considering an entire family of
screen sizes for upcoming iPhone releases. This would
match the approach that Apple has taken with the iPad
and iPod lineups, which consist of multiple products in
varying sizes. The iPhone is currently the only Apple
product family that does not offer a choice of screen
sizes on the newest model.

It seems the gap between Hollywood & Nollywood may be about to grow a little smaller, courtesy of Fiscon Films, who have produced a short clip of what is probably the first sci-fi production in Nigeria.

Ficson Films was conceived as a business idea in October 2012, as a film production outfit in the bid to produce quality Nigerian movies for Nigerians and the world. The company is a partnership between two young Nigerians with a passion for film making.

About a year and a half ago, a small team at Opera started working on a new browser for tablets and yesterday, it launched the result of this project: Opera Coast, a new, almost chrome-less browser for the iPad.

As Huib Kleinhout, the head of the Coast project at Opera told said last week, the new web-browsing app was born out of the frustration that browsers really haven’t changed all that much since the days of Mosaic,
even though the devices we browse the web with have
changed quite a bit. With the advent of multi-touch and
tablets, Kleinhout believes, browsers also need to
change and Coast is Opera’s first attempt at building a
new tablet-optimized browser.

“People don’t use the browser as a power tool,”


Kleinhout said about how people use browsers on their
tablets. The idea behind Coast is to remove most of the
complexities – and often unnecessary user interface
elements – of today’s browsers. “On a tablet, browsers
felt outdated, and that bothered me,” Kleinhout said in a
statement today. “Why? Because we make browsers for
a living. We’re passionate about making the internet
better.” Making a browser for a tablet, Kleinhout also
argues, shouldn’t just be about making the interface
elements larger.

In late May, Securelist reported on the details of
Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.a, the most sophisticated
mobile Trojan to date. At the time we had almost no
information about how this piece of malware gets onto
mobile devices. We have since been examining how the

Trojan is distributed and discovered that the malware
owners have developed a technique which we have
never encountered before. For the first time malware is
being distributed using botnets that were created using
completely different mobile malware.

So far we have discovered four basic methods used to
distribute different versions of
Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.a.

Mobile Botnet
The most interesting of these methods were the ones
where Obad.a was distributed along with another
mobile Trojan – SMS.AndroidOS.Opfake.a. This was
recently described in the blog GCM in malicious
attachments. The double infection attempt starts when a
user gets a text message containing the following text:

“MMS message has been delivered, download from
www.otkroi.com”.

If a user clicks on the link, a file named mms.apk
containing Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.Opfake.a is
automatically loaded onto the smartphone or tablet.
The malware cannot be installed unless users then run
it. If this happens, the C&C server can instruct the Trojan
to send out the following message to all the contacts in
the victim’s address book:

“You have a new MMS message, download at – http://
otkroi.net/12”

Following the link automatically loads
Backdoor.AndroidOS.Obad.a under the names of
mms.apk or mmska.apk.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is set for a debut at IFA 2013 on September 4th, putting us in the home stretch for Galaxy Note 3 rumors and leaks.

Samsung is doing a pretty good job of keeping the Galaxy Note 3 under wraps, but as we move within a few days of the Unpacked 2 event, new Galaxy Note 3 photos, details and information is trickling out of Samsung and supply chains.
