Doghari:
If you are not blind to truth, you will realize that comparing South Sudan with Biafra is idiotic.

2) If you are not attempting to run aesy from facts, you will also ask yourself why a Biafra cut off from the rest of the world was able to refine their own oil and build their own weapons (a feat that still remains rocket science to your overbloated nigeria 50 years after). Now embrace the truth and tell us how such a republic will fail if given the breathing space that it's people clamour for. Nigeria is stifling growth of every progressive region including yorubas but they feel a progressive Biafra will dent their ego and prefer to oppose it even it means cutting their noses to spite their faces.
This is false. Ammunition and arms were provided by the France, as they sought to overtake the British's oil interest, and apartheid south africa also supported with biafra weapons probably to cripple the Nigerian force of african people that would end up being powerful enough to finance the end of apartheid in south africa.
3) Nigeria is not a country to proud of, it is a dungeon that enthrone injustice and sees nothing wrong in shedding blood of the innocent, there is nothing great about. Even when people die, nobody is shocked, everybody is desensitized to the sanctity of life. The corpse is just 'part of statistics'. Even your 'heroic' president prefers to sympathize with the queen when her dog dies than when 50 nigerians are killed. Why should such an evil contraption be allowed to subsist.
Disagree

4). When everybody goes home to the respective country, they'll take the lessons they've learnt from dead cesspit and start afresh stronger. I don't any country that emerges from nigeria will want to institute nonsense 'nigerianistic' laws that encourages anomalies like 'Jumbo pay', 'personalization of contracts', 'corruption', 'environmental degradation', etc

Dissolution of nigeria is an opportunity to start afresh ON A CLEAN SLATE and a chance to prove that African countries founded by Africans themselves can work.
Again, I asked for proof, not opinion. Unless you can give me a crystal ball where everyone learns their lesson, its a fantasy. No one seems to want to fix nigeria's corruption problem on the ground level. If you think people will suddenly wake up and stop being corrupt after disintegration, as if they're under some sort of trance to steal, you are not in touch with reality. Every single evidence in history, from the inception of this country, to the history of africa thus far, has proven the opposite. Corruption will always be a problem we need to work through. It is laughable to think that changing the name of a land mass will eradicate corruption and bad leadership.[/quote]

No region can develop in Nigeria of today with a centralized government controlled by a greedy few and heavily dependent on oil.

When Oduduwa republic is formed, we will have no choice but to look inwards. We might not be so rich at beginning but we'll solve the problem of bad roads, electricity, education etc like our peaceful neighbors (Benin republic).
So your problem is with a centralied govt that is greedy, but instead of focusing on voting in a new government with people you trust, you would rather leave the country possibly inciting a civil war? And you think this resolve will produce a successful Oduduwa republic?

Oduduwa republic should do better than a united Nigeria.

* Accommodating and religious tolerant.

* Seasoned Technocrats and highly skilled laborers

* High literacy level (can be better)

* Fertile land

* Access to the sea

* population (at least 30million)

Yorubas can be the Germany of Africa slowly and steadily. Does not need oil and gas to grow.
You say Oduduwa will be better than Nigeria because of these things. But what is stopping it from happening within Nigeria now and in the future, helping Nigeria grow forward?

No, Ivory Coast survived a second civil war which ended in 2011. If you want secession, you need to plan the logistics of it since there are many factors involved. First, create a set border. Will the 21st century Biafra be a homogenous Igbo state or will it include other ethnic groups? Will it include all Igbo/Igboid speaking people? You will have to corporate with the Nigerian government for a referendum as well as trade agreement due to Biafran businesses in Nigeria. Will the referendum be decisive or a close call? How would you deal with opposition? The easy step is gaining international recognition for the country. If you sought a second civil war instead, are you prepared for the impending destruction? Are you prepared to callously sacrifice members of your population? Do you have powerful allies? Are you prepared for involvement of world players like Britain who have interests in keeping Nigeria one. Are you going to learn and have enough ammunition, food supply, medicine in supply to avoid the previous calamity?
No, no, no, no , no, no, no, no, no. There I answered all of the questions for him. But who cares about all of that when I can yell "give me freedom!" 1 thousand times. Won't that be enough? No? Its not that easy?

Lets start with basics. If seccession were to occur the New nation would have more autonomy and more wealth percapita. Lower population and more economic freedom if they choose to. They join ecowas trade freely.

Let's assume all the SE states go. They have oil and a bit of manufacturing potential. They have educated population. They can burn gas and for electricity invite multinational for investment. Free float currency and become second world country like Botswana and evoke from there.

1. Large GDP but low GDP percapita. Usually during any split you going to start off smaller. That's not a big deal. It's the growth later through better policies that matter. Use the other countries like Singapore for example.

2. Not sure how this matters. The same Internet companies can still do business. The Internet speeds and prices is trash in Nigeria anyway.

3. Most of film industry is bases in south and will still have access to actors, products and market. Like Internet no big deal. Actors get work visa if they need to.

4. Refer to point 3

5. Plenty of billionaire still exist in South and business will go on. They won't be barred from investment. How does this hurt anyone.

Ps: Not a secessionist but the points you brought up were weak.
Firstly, since you stated you're not a secessionist, i'm not really talking to you, i'm more so talking to others. But i'll address your points.

There is no guarantee that there will be a greater autonomy on the local level. Maybe on the state level yes, but you're on the assumption that it will automatically trickle down to all those that wanted secession, when that isn't guaranteed, I look at South sudan as a great example, they too have a greater wealth per capita than the previous sudan. Nigeria has a better income per capita in terms of natural resources than many countries that are better off than us, so what exactly would make Biafra different than how South Sudan ended up in comparison to previously sudan, or how Nigeria is doing in comparison to other countries that aren't blessed with better resources.

A lot of what you mention in terms of manufacturing, etc, , are all things Nigeria can also do but isn't (on a massive scale at least). Are all things Zimbabwe can do but isn't, are all things that south sudan can do but isn't. So again, what exactly would Biafra (as an example) do to be more successful at doing the things Nigeria isn't doing.

What benefit is it in having "largest GDP" on paper yet the people aren't feeling it? Maybe you forgot that Nigeria is least educated as one of the nation where the citizen makes less than a $1 a day. Ironically to survive in the country comfortable, less than a dollar is sh1t yet you are here proudly displaying a title that does nothing for the people as proof while Nigeria should stick together undecided

Seriously? Seriously? You have to be joking? How is Internet usage benefit the people?

This two has absolutely NOTHING to do with Nigeria. It's anot individualism act. Infact, the southern Nigeria is whom made this two industry relevant therefore when Nigeria divides, it will not change the status quo of both industry.

Which came out by destroying other regions. While the indigienous suffer, the two in question rejoices of the wealth of another person's land.
Are you arguing for Nigeria to stick together or against? If this is your reason why it should stick together then it is obvious, you truly don't know what makes a nation great.
I'm guessing of the secession groups, you're promoting IPOB. So my question to you is, what proof do you have, that says Nigeria is BETTER split, than as Nigeria now. What would Biafra or any other split country from nigeria do, to make them greater than Nigeria. It's a simple question. Answer it.

I agree with you up until your last point. Don't generalize all igbos. There are amazing igbos all over the world and in Nigeria. It is just the failures in life that are promoting this IPOB thing because they want to blame their failures on Nigeria's gov't. They forget that igbo people are also a part of Nigeria's gov't . And it will remain so if the south secedes and becomes one country. Who cares about GDP? It's GDP per capita. Who cares about 2 billionaires? Split and we have one anyways and the source of the other one's wealth becomes strained. Nollywood and the music is based in the south. Who internet users epp? Im sure most of the users are in the south anyways.

We need to diversify our economy and have states control their resources if we want to be better as one Nigeria.
So no proof.

I agree that there needs to be true federalism though, and restructuring should happen along with diversification. But secession is the topic at had here, and thats a very different thing.

Thank you! I don't know where this assertion that once there are different tribs living in one country, the country will suffer comes from. It's just the blame game the leaders sell to the people and the people buy it whole-heartedly.
And the people buy it whole heartedly because they're uneducated, or failures in life looking to blame someone or something else for their own shortcomings. Notice how rich people aren't clamoring for secession. I wonder how a man like Kanu was able to be on the radio nearly everyday in london. Did the man not have a job or other responsibilities? Not opinion, not fantasy, not hateful tribalistic comments. Give me hard, and factual proof with sources , as to how exactly any country split from Nigeria will be better than Nigeria. Its a very simple question. I want answers.

Let's recap,

1. Nigeria has Africa's Largest GDP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_African_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)

2. Nigeria has the largest amount of internet users: http://answersafrica.com/africa-internet-usage-statistics.html

3. Nigeria has the second largest film industry in the world: http://fortune.com/2015/06/24/nollywood-movie-industry/

4. Nigeria has the largest music industry in africa (I don't even need to cite this. http://www.africanbusinesscentral.com/2016/10/24/the-boom-in-africas-music-industry-continues/)

5. Nigerians own 2 of the top 3 spot of richest men in Africa (everyone else in top 5 is white): https://www.forbes.com/africa-billionaires/list/#tab:overall

So again, i'm open to discussion. Give me hard, and factual proof with sources, how a spilt country would be better than Nigeria. Its a very simple question. Answer the question below Don't derail, or change the subject, just answer the question.

Exactly What?...My point is that no modern society was ever created through a diverse ethnic group as Nigeria..America I premised is not a diverse society..The different white groups came into an already defined dominant Anglo group with similar cultural values, religion..They subsumed themselves into this group as white as against other different racial group as classified in their society....Irish, German, poles, etc, see themselves as white and strive to imbibe the cultural values already set by the anglos to make themselves less ethnic and culturally uniform.

So in all we cannot compare Nigeria to USA as we have natively ethnic cultural norms that is increasing entrenched and protected by each group..

Nigeria as per your definition would not become successful as it does not have the values that make a nation successful.
What does that have to do with the success of nigeria? You do know that Nigeria is the most economically successful country in africa? If ethnic differences is the main hindrance to that, south sudan would be the richest place and most successful place in the world. Switzerland wouldn't be as successful as they are, and Nigeria wouldn't be were it is today. In comparing Nigeria, ghana, kenya, and other african countries that have multiple tribes, to countries that have a singular major tribe, it is quite clear that countries that have multiple ethnic groups are the ones that are performing the best.
Politics › Re: For Or Against Nigeria's Possible Division? by MrMaestro: 11:56pm On Apr 22, 2017
I just want to know, according to these fools, what proof has been shown that any derivative of nigeria would be better than nigeria?

1. Nigeria has africa's largest economy.
2. Nigeria dominates africas film and multimedia industry
3. Nigeria dominates africa's music industry
4. Nigeria is producing many of africa's billionaires and millionaires.
5. Nigeria also has the largest middle class in africa

So my question is, give me factual, hard proof, that any Nigerian derivative would be better than nigeria in all of the ways listed. If not, just stop being stupid and blaming the federal government on your failures. I've seen more and more failures blame the government for why they're failures. And they will blame the new government if nigeria were to split. You don't like leaders? Vote them out, go to their office and ask them face to face why they're doing such a shit job. Do anything you want, but don't sit here and act like you're not the reason they're in office.

I've seen people turn into millionaires in the last 5 yrs in nigeria alone. There are a LOT of business and start up opporunities in Nigeria. Get off of your ass and work. The government isn't responsible for feeding you or making you successful, others are doing it in nigeria, why can't you? I'm sick of these crybabies and failures consistently blaming everyone else but themselves. As if our political leaders are kings that just walked into office unannounced.

I'll give you two; the USA and Switzerland. Basically, the US is a melting pot of various cultures, nationalities, religions and ideas. You know what has made the US work so far? It's the people (at least by an large) rising above their backgrounds and differences to "be American" and work towards the American dream. America is beginning to face it's current challenges because people are beginning to accentuate and play up differences. Funnily enough, Canada has recognized that it was America's united diversity that has made it so great and Canada is beginning to copy the American model. Switzerland is made up of four major regions and has four official languages - German, Italian, French and Romanish. In spite of these difference in language and culture, they all share a common ideology and values. Switzerland is proof that people with different cultures and languages can work together to create one successful country - a lesson we seem to find impossible to learn in Nigeria.
My guy, may god bless you. You've enlightened many people here.

Nigeria will remain united. People need to start taking politics and voting seriously. We are the reason Nigeria isn't functioning as best as it could. If there is anything we should clamor for, it is true federalism, so that state leaders on the ground can have greater flexibility of development.

Ademola Odujinrin is the first African in the world to fly around the world solo.
Nigerian airline pilot Ademola Odujinrin, known as “Lola”, has become the first African to fly solo around the world, his foundation Transcend said in a statement Thursday.
The 38-year-old Nigerian left Washington in September last year abord a Cirrus SR22, a small, single engine airplane, and stopped in more than 15 countries on five continents during the journey, according to the statement. Odujinrin landed at his starting point at Dulles Airport, just outside the American capital on March 29. “I want African children to think: ‘I can do this too!'” Odujinrin said. The website Earthrounders lists Odujinrin as the first African among the 120 pilots who have flown around the world solo since American Wiley Post became the first to do so in 1933. A commercial airline pilot since 2011, Odujinrin works for Air Djibouti, which partially financed the project.
