grin grin grin ok so even if the father's last name comes last you would still have a problem with the hyphenated thing? grin

OT: i know in spanish speaking communities its a bit more interesting because it is standard to have both your maiden and surnames.

the thing is the father's last name comes first, then the mothers.
to me that is a bit odd.
You already know...some men do not care as long as their name is in the picture SOMEWHERE...it could be on the license plate, coffee mug, or even on booty cheeks.

Matter fact...I may have to rethink the hyphenated names thingie...hmmm.

I have seen children with hyphenated names and some of them were nice combos. There is a child's name...Something Aire-Love and I was digging it!
YES,

sur = sir.
honestly i plan to keep my last name and do the hyphenated thing but
i dont exactly see taking on the father's name as "oppressive". I am just saying the culture/tradition began from chauvinistic societies and laws.

for example "johnson" in the old days meant you were the "son of john". Same for "Robinson" etc.

anyway, the only children i know who have their mother's last names are kids born to single mothers or who changed it due to the divorce of their parents.

Case in point Bobby Brown and the late Witney Houston's daughter who dropped her father's names "bobby and brown" from hers.
You made an excellent point because I have seen many female celebrities who have maintained their maiden name even after marriage and some said it to maintain their brand but my thing is this....how come we don't always know their spouse's name but their maiden name?

Speaking of children...not all children will keep their name even if they are married. Some kids will grow up with some kind of epiphany and decides to change their name because of whatever. If they do so...the line is lost anyways. So we need not to make a big deal about surnames because we all live in the world where people are creating pen names and brand names that has nothing to do with their spouse or father.

CultureRe: Why Do Africans Have Foreign Names? by MrsChima1(f): 4:14pm On Sep 23, 2012
its not just africans who go through the name change, so do asians.
i too make an effort to learn however you know as an american, our country isn't the most tolerant.

for example, in the second grade my best friend was a FOB Taiwanese girl with the name "Sharon". lipsrsealed grin

That wasn't her real name however she like most of the immigrant children were all given "western first names" to enroll in school and make the assimilation process easier.
Read the above post again. grin
CultureRe: Why Do Africans Have Foreign Names? by MrsChima1(f): 4:09pm On Sep 23, 2012
because it is hard for westerners to pronounce their names. grin
Actually there are some names that are African easy to pronounce just have to listen to how they pronounce their names. Some people are too lazy to learn about the person whom they are conversing with and when I meet a foreigner...I always try to imitate their accent while sayng their names. They always laughing....saying you are verily good. grin grin

Believe it or not...when I listen to people talk for a minute... I can imitate them well. My brother in-law travels to UK for business from USA and he have adopted the accent and when I first met him I spoke just like a Brit..he was confused...he was like I thought you were a Yankee and I laughed...and I imitated his accent and he was like oh my goodness!

He is in California with a Brit accent...you know how those people in Compton gon treat him! grin grin grin grin No offense to the Brits but men with Brit accent sounds like battyboys!

Nym...you forget what you write don't you?

As far as the fathers name thing. I had asked you initial if you uses your fathers name and you said something like " my kids will honor their father ....we agreed to it before marriage." So inductively I assumed you meant your kids will use your husbands name, therefore you are probably using your fathers name.. glad you not offended though

You have posted two different statements saying it is the same....this is what you said below.

nyameke: @chima are you using your husband surname or your surname?
You mentioned nothing of my father...you said husband....were you dreaming when you wrote both statements? My children ARE PART OF MY HUSBAND therefore the answer was RELEVANT.

Nym.

You said:

tw are you suggesting that just because some slave owners treats their slaves better than some husbands, it makes their inhumane acts right and should be applauded?

My answer:

Neither should the husbands who beat/mistreated their wives and later repented shouldn't be applauded either. Either way it doesn't change what was done therefore are we going to punish them in totality?
