greenskittles: Its a ridiculous question in the first place. If the topic being taught is simple division then why would they give a question with an answer of x != 0. There's even no way to justify the teacher saying the student is wrong. It would take nothing for the teacher to just say "okay students, this question wasn't a good question for you guys, so its a bonus" if they know that the students cannot yet comprehend the actual answer. So the teacher who said that nonsense just raised red flags about the school and if I were a parent I would start paying more attention to the child's other school work to make sure they're actually being taught well.
You just brought another part into the OP only to use that to ask me a silly question.
At elementary level these things are trivial.
The kid is not writing thesis. I gave a similar scenario in my earlier post.
I am very ok
I am very OK. I still can't see why it is trivial, such blunder! Besides no anyone that told you 5-7 and 7/14 in primary school is impossible be reexamined he is not fit to be a primary school teacher. That should not be present in a primary 1work because it is not in their curriculum. but if found by coincidence the teacher should not tell the student it is impossible. He should simply tell the student it is not in your level rather that giving him wrong solution.
Or give correct solution by using stone to do the subtraction showing borrowing 2.
Not giving the wrong solution.
It is very difficult to unlearn erroneous math. Besides this is a JSS1 student
That should be primary school mathematics. If so, the correct answer is 1.
In primary school, we were told 5 - 10 and 7 / 14 are impossible but later on we were taught they are very possible.
Your own answer is beyond the scope of the pupil's class which makes it technically wrong.
So yeah, the teacher is damn right!
It is not right. The said student told the teacher the answer is 2 she said it is wrong. So what then make the teachers answer which is 1 to be correct.
sexy74: Hmm na wa ooh, am not a mathematician but from the little I know about maths x/x=1. From the question when you cross multiply you will have x=x since you can't write 1x, So the value of x can be anything and if you divide it by itself it will give you one . My simple subimmision of a non mathatician .
Number 50 x/x=1. Find x. As mathematics teachers we should not be defending textbook, they are not writing by God. We should reason mathematically. A student sent this to me. His teacher told him the answer is 1 but he his confused. The textbook answer is 1 anyway. But to my knowledge of math 1 is not the solution. The solution is all values ≠0. Michelle55: The mere sight of mathematics gives me an instant headache, how I got B in waec still surprises me. Meet me for another other subject that does not have to do with calculations and we're good to go. As for maths, nwokem meet your father. I can't minus and add in the bedroom and still come out to show workings in your notebook, I be person pikin too.
Please Explain that minus and add in the bedroom. I need to know that math in case of emergency
WoundedLamb: @bolded: lol... African men their excessive desire for a godly status.
As for me, I wouldn't like to make it anyone's task or even a workflow (like yours where it arrives on your table after wifie's failed attempts); it's my home and not an office with SOP's. I'd let anyone available do that. If I see anyone I can't solve I'd either claim to be busy and ask them to go to wifie or ask them to come back later and then quietly ask wifie to help. I'd expect her to do the same if she finds anyone too hard to solve.
That Godly status make the children to strong belief, trust, confidence and pride in the family. Aminiminiminiminimini
I think my wife will be in best position they should see me as last option when every other on has been ticked. That's the reason why I won't marry someone handicap in math.
Please let us know who will/is assist/assisting your kids in math?
Don't tell us you will employ math home teacher for them. Because the child will still need the parents help in one way or the other sometimes.
Profmaojo: Mrshape, I am of the opinion you write to the school demanding an explanation and apology for the marks reduction in your student.
Stating categorically that external exam such as SSCE, NECO, CAMBRIDGE etc. Should be the basis for reduction and implementation of new facts.
That he/she can't change the rules because of personal feelings. There must be one needs in the determination of what is right and what is wrong.
Unless it isn't a worthy assessment and he/she just want them to use his/her method rather than the norm. Which invariably doesn't mean that the normal way isn't right.
The person must in clear terms clearify to you and the students her stand point.
I have tod the student on Friday to return the script for the teacher to give her the complete mark. If she don't I will write the school
DesChyko: If it was all about the textbook, the teacher's input is ultimately unnecessary. I simply highlighted something which the OP failed to lend credence to: "The teacher's specific instructions". It is left for the OP to find out if there was anything as such.
If you check the post he quoted which I replied to, I expressly mentioned the class which owned that topic for the term. That suffices to tell you I'm doing more than just guessing at.
From experience, kids find substitution easier and less error-prone.. For me, I will now adopt this idea of eliminating twice because it addresses two problems I come across with students of that class 1. More exposure to multiplying through and subtracting directed numbers. 2. Eliminating any variable regardless of position.
The questions was using elimination method that's the only instruction. That was an SS2 script. Not JSS3 she was trying to prove a point that in elimination their should be nothing like substitute in it.
I know students have problems with directed numbers, but at ss2 she was forming her own math
whiteraven: Believe this guy at your own risk....Even the highest paying private school here in Edo state does not start a bsc holder with up to 50k talkless of part time....
From your analysis of how you get your money, it shows you are not being honest with yourself.
I must say that Private schools do not employ part time Maths and Physics teachers except in a very rare or urgent case. Because these subjects are the major in secodary schools. They rather give the duties to those science teachers in the school that can handle those subjects till they get full time teachers that can work with them.
With the advent of social media ( whatsapp , facebook ) and the rate of unemployment , it is always very easy to get full time teachers for these subjects. So if anyone is employed as a part time teacher in any school , just know that you will be shown the way out within 2 / 3 months. Is that how you want to continue to live your life ?
I must commend Alexis105 for the analysis , comment and the questions. The OP has forgotten that not everybody will swallow every post hook , line and sinker.
Time will tell for anyone who wishes to follow the footpath of OP.
