Education / In Pursuit Of Education I Have Attained Wealth~ Ifada 2023 by Mrshape: 9:37pm On Apr 19, 2023
I really want to be a qualified teacher, engineer, mathematician, medical doctor, lawyer and scientist.

I do much believe in undergraduate level of education rather than accumulation of masters degree,

My resolution, I will attain the education before I am 45 years old.

Starting everything from the stratch,
Hence I will be taking this year JAMB examination,

Who have similar goal here?
Let us work together

Just obey the damn rules of the school instead of making trouble up and down. If they said they didn't want hijab, then tie your hair properly and walk in majestically.

The hijab not only posses a security risk but may also stand against the smooth conduct of the exam by aiding a student in malpractice if they conceal materials in them.

Is it the school exam?
Did she consent to the school rules?
Is she a student of the school?
Education / Why A Mathematician Is Preferred To Someone Who Studied Banking For Bank Job by Mrshape: 6:58am On Mar 31, 2023
There are several reasons why a mathematician might be employed in a bank job rather than someone who studied banking:

Analytical Skills: A mathematician is trained in logical and analytical thinking, which is an essential skill in the banking industry. Banks deal with large amounts of data and complex financial models, which require a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.

Quantitative Analysis: Mathematics is the foundation of quantitative analysis, which is used extensively in banking. A mathematician's expertise in statistics, probability theory, and numerical analysis can help banks make informed decisions about investments, risk management, and other financial activities.

Innovation: A mathematician's approach to problem-solving can bring a fresh perspective to the banking industry. They are trained to think outside the box and come up with innovative solutions to complex problems.

Transferable Skills: The skills learned in a mathematics degree are transferable to many different fields, including banking. Mathematicians are known for their ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations, making them a valuable asset in any industry.

Overall, a mathematician's skills and expertise can be highly beneficial to the banking industry, especially when it comes to complex financial modeling, risk management, and innovative problem-solving

Education / Why You Don't Need PTA In Private School, Do You Agree? by Mrshape: 6:48am On Mar 31, 2023
PTA meetings can be time-consuming and take away from important educational activities.

Personal interests and agendas can take precedence over the best interests of the school and students.

PTA involvement can create conflicts between parents and teachers.

The decision-making process can be slowed down by PTA involvement.

PTA involvement can interfere with the autonomy of school administration.

PTA involvement can cause unnecessary bureaucracy and red tape.

PTA involvement can cause division among parents and teachers.

PTA meetings may not be productive or result in effective solutions.

The PTA may not represent the views and needs of all parents and teachers.

Alternatives to a PTA may better serve the needs of the school and community
Education / Why Stoping hijab JAMB Student From Taking Exam In Covenant University Is Wrong by Mrshape: 6:38am On Mar 31, 2023
Upon seeing their post, I initially thought that she was a student of the school who was about to take their exam. I questioned why someone would enroll in a sectarian school if they knew they could not comply with the rules. However, after realizing it was a JAMB mock exam, I concluded that the individuals were not only mistaken but also bullies. In my opinion, if it were a Muslim lecturer from another university taking a professional exam at the center, would they ask her to remove her hijab? Or if a politician's wife visited the university, would they ask her to remove her hijab? Or if some Muslim students came to compete with other school students at Covenant University as the center for the competition, would they ask the students wearing hijabs to remove them? This girl is a visitor, not a student of the school. She is a JAMB student who follows the rules set by JAMB. I was taken aback by the comments I saw on the post's front page and it made me wonder if these people were aware that the girl was a visitor taking the JAMB exam and not a student of the school.
Or there is something the media is not reporting? this can't be the complete story .

Education / Re: A Bill That Senior Secondary Teachers Should Take JAMB UTME Each Year, With 75% by Mrshape: 9:50pm On Mar 28, 2023
DeTribalisedCit:
I'm sorry to say but you're thinking in black and white.

A teacher is meant to have mastery of his subject; that is a given. But there is more to being a teacher than scoring 100% in an Exam.

Make no mistake, I'm not a dull person, I finished 2nd place in 2021 Lagos State NAPPS Teachers competition, which tests you in 3 - 4 different subjects. And I have in-depth knowledge in a number of subject, including Mathematics which I have a degree in. However, the purpose of learning isn't to show off.

However, the job is not to be a student, your job is to be a teacher. Students need to understand that it's okay to fail; at least they've learnt a way not to do what it is that they failed. It's okay to not be perfect; no one really is. It's necessary to keep improving and maintains growth mindset; there's always time to do better. The greater job is motivating students to believe in themselves; it shouldn't be about you; it's them first. How can you make them learn and build their confidence?
A teacher having 75% is the seeking for perfection? Is that too much?
If you are giving waec maths question you mean you can't get 38 out of 50 Questions correctly?
If failing 12 questions is not a room for mistakes for a teacher, then failing 36questions won't be bad for a student, you people don't know the extent of damage of the system.

This comparison is just dead.

Typewriter is an invention, not a Governmental policy.

At the advent of new inventions, especially Science & Technology, people will grumble before they eventually adapt to it. This situation varies, according to geographical location.

Now, you can't expect people in an underdeveloped country to easily adapt to a new policy, when they're still hustling for their daily bread.
They'll rather port to where they'll see quick cash, than saddle themselves with unprofitable work regulations.

They can still work around to adapt to new inventions. 5G is a good example of this.
If teachers are not confident to students exam then they should not be seen close to where WAEC SSCE ANDGCE script are marked.

How much do you think they pay teachers in both private and public schools?? For you to talk about a pay slash? Are you normal?

To solve the problem of incompetent teachers, the school or recruiting body should do a better job in assessing candidates for teaching roles. I am a teacher, and I can state with all certainty that there is currently a shortage of teachers in the labour force. My school is still looking for a chemistry and physics teacher, they basically depend on per time teachers. And here you are talking about an annual assessment, who's gonna have the time for that?

Think, reason before putting ur opinions in public forums like this, so you don't sound silly. Alright?
Are part time teachers not teacher?
It is better to use part time teacher for school than use someone without mastery of subject content.

I think I agree with this submission. It makes perfect sense. While it is good to have broad knowledge of your subject matter, it is essential for you to have a mastery of the one you teach per time.
Thanks for seeing the same picture I see. The truth is that change is difficult, people will complain, they even once complained that typewriter is better than computer in every aspect when they wanted to change the typewriters to computer in the federal and state ministries.

In some countries they do after ten years,
And many other countries they attend workshop and other stuff year and present their certificate and performance.
Besides doctors do not teach children to take exam we teachers do.
IN the US an SAT teacher show his competency by taking the SAT exam regularly.
I won't have had much problem with the normal but, the so called professional exam teachers take are mainly teaching theorems, with little on no subject mastery content

You're not having this concept clear.

When you're applying for a teaching job, you will be tested on the subject you're applying for.

But when you're employed, you're asked to take a certain class.

You can be taking SS1 for instance for 10yrs. While mastering only the scheme for SS1 and also researching to improve on the schemes.

If you're given SS2 to take after 10yrs, you will need to master the scheme overtime while teaching the subject. This doesn't mean that you don't know the topics for SS2 but because you have centered so much of your knowledge on the topics of SS1...

If you're to write any professional exams, you will need to relearn all what youve learn before.

You don't just expect a teacher to know everything because he/she is a teacher.

You don't just expect lecturers who lectures Quantum physics to be able to lecture Nuclear or Plasma physics... Because they're physics lecturers and should be able to pass all 0hysocs exams.
Just as we do have entry qualification and roles in secondary school university also have qualification of a lecturer to take a role. If you don't meet the criteria you should not apply because you can't teach the course or perform whatever task required.

In simple term
University lecturers specialize in various areas to qualify to teach some areas.
But secondary school teachers don't need subsubject specialization

Do you know why there is an average of 2 to 3 lecturers per core engineering courses?

Yes I do. I is because many a times it is closer to their specialization, or may have done masters closer to the course or doctorate degree on that aspect.
To reduce the work load sometimes.

In mathematics education
Do teachers specialize to be SS1 teachers only?
Do teachers specialize to be geometry teacher only?
You don't specialize at basic level, at basic level you are suppose to know a very large percentage of the subject and master it. How will you improve on a curriculum if you don't Know how one topic relate to better understanding of the other?
You need to know the basics which is the O level then you can identify patterns when they come your way.
And for remainder subject test exams for secondary and primary school are prepared but sections not clases.
Education / Re: A Bill That Senior Secondary Teachers Should Take JAMB UTME Each Year, With 75% by Mrshape: 9:02am On Mar 28, 2023

Even as an engineer, if you come I to teaching, your engineering knowledge will fade out to only accommodate the subjects you're teaching because that is your area of specialization and focus to bring the best to the kids.

If as a maths teacher you get Introduced to a new scheme, you will have to master it along the line as you keep teaching the new scheme.

The most important part of teaching is that, a teacher stays focused to their area of specialization and give the utmost best for the student to learn.
If some of big secondary school they give you past exam questions to test your subject mastery, you mean they don't know what they are doing?
The subject test exam that teachers are giving in some internationally recognize secondary school you mean, they should have let " let my people go" because you have a certificate? Let everyone learn mastery on the job
If the engineer's plan is to come and learn in my institution, he should enroll for a program and do the learning before he come to teach others.
Have you seen some international job advertisement for Mathematics teachers in US and teacher of mathematics in the UK.
they will tell you you should have a mastery of the mathematics curriculum if it is K 12 ETC
Education / Re: A Bill That Senior Secondary Teachers Should Take JAMB UTME Each Year, With 75% by Mrshape: 8:38am On Mar 28, 2023
JASONjnr:
Absolutely trash.

Every teach is assigned to teach with a specific scheme of work. And not to cover the entire area of the subject.

Teachers are professionals and they are to for promotion exams which is harder than JAMB.
Those promotional exam test educational theorems, not mastery of subject matter,
You mean as a mathematics teacher it is fine for me to know trigonometry not geometry because it is not in my scheme of work for the term?
You can be a professional teacher but not a professional physics teacher,
From you explanation I think we should only allow a professional subject teacher teach a particular subject.

How can a professional mathematics teacher say it is not compulsory for him to master the entire mathematics curriculum?
And you expect students to master it.

If the person call himself a teacher what if a student use a different approach to solve the questions how will you know if he his correct, what of if a student come to you for assistant, you will tell him this is not in your scheme of work.
Hmmmm

*I am of the opinion that a bill should raised for consideration by the national assembly that teachers should take the JAMB UTME yearly as a renewal subject test. A teacher that can't get up to 75% in is subject should not teach that subject for that year, rather he should be assigned on training to a better performing teacher to teach her through that year while he will be assistant to the better performing teacher.

*Teachers should take examination they are training students for, it is not sufficient to know educational theorems, the subject matter mastery is more important, from my observation many teachers can't pass examination of subjects they have been teaching for years most especially government teachers, private school teachers are not left out but the funny thing is that for the private school many of the school owners know their teachers are not competent.

*I suggest JAMB should be the subject mastery exam for teachers because to me it is the only exam in Nigeria without brine or malpractice

*If I am a Mathematics and computer teacher.
I can enroll
Mathematics, computer, English and physics.

*My score for math most be up to 75
My score for computer most be up to 75
Other subjects can be left undone.

*Teachers that can't get upto 75 in his subject will serve as assistant with a pay slash for the period, which will be added to better performing teachers doing the training.

*Teachers promotion will be based on number of consecutive successes in obtaining up to 75%, the performance of his students to ratio with the education appreciation and acceptance ratio of the community.

*Perfect score teachers will be rewarded,
*Perfect score students can be given part-time job in teaching while they take their university education this will help to reduce shortage of teachers.

What do you think about this bill?

I'm sorry your story is hard to believe.

It's good for teachers in Nigeria to travel to other countries to cause shortage in Nigeria.

When it becomes hard to see quality teachers in Nigeria, government and schools will be forced to pay them a decent salary.

How can government be paying teachers less than #100k and think it's okay? It's even worse in private schools where some teachers are paid less than #50k.

Globalization is a reality that Nigeria must learn to live with or become utterly useless.

What he said his true physics teachers are becoming scarce that schools that vow never to use part-time teachers are for e to even pay the part-time teacher even more salary than the full time teacher just to teach this subject for 2 hours three times a week.
Where I am you can't even see a full time teacher application letter for Physic, chemistry and Mathematics
