PoliticsTinubu Plots To Take Over Presidency If APC Wins – PDP by msmon(op): 4:51am On Feb 28, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), yesterday alleged that former Governor of Lagos State, and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is trying to seize the presidency by subterfuge should the APC win the presidential election.

The Director of media and publicity of the PDPPCO, Femi Fani-Kayode, at a press conference in Abuja, specifically alleged that Tinubu has made the vice presidential candidate of the APC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo swear to an oath that after six months in
office, he would resign as the vice president,
peradventure APC wins.

But the All Progressives Congress (APC) described the allegation as absolute rubbish.

The national publicity secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a short text message, said “absolute rubbish, ask him to give you proof.”

Fani-Kayode said “since the formation of the APC, it has been an open secret that Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu is its national leader and also its biggest financier. The question that should agitate every Nigerian is why Tinubu has been investing heavily in the APC presidential project to such a point that
he has single-handedly produce the joint presidential ticket of General Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“It should baffle well-meaning Nigerians why Senator Tinubu has decided to draft General Buhari, despite his age, acrimonious background and questionable health status, into the presidential race whilst ensuring that his stooge, Prof. Osinbajo was foisted on the general as vice presidential candidate.

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation wishes to use this forum to expose the ungodly plan by Senator Tinubu to seize the presidency of Nigeria by subterfuge.

“You will recall how Senator Tinubu wanted to be running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari in spite of the nationwide resentment for Muslim Muslim ticket that he and General Buhari planned to foist on their party men and women. Senator Tinubu had justified the ticket by saying that
competence was the important thing and not the issue of religion.

“But when he and General Buhari could not push through the agenda within the APC, he (Senator Tinubu), after being given the opportunity to nominate a vice presidential candidate, decided to prop up his stooge in the person of Prof Osinbajo.

“Now the real reason Senator Tinubu nominated Osinbajo has been made known to us and we hereby offer a public service to the Nigerian people by drawing national attention to it. Credible pieces of information at our disposal indicate that Tinubu has perfected plans to come to power through the back door.

“Senator Tinubu, according to our information, has compelled Professor Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event that their
party wins. The wicked plot, as laid out by them, is to force Professor Osinbajo to resign for Senator Tinubu to be nominated by General Buhari as his replacement.

“The ultimate objective of this plot is to ensure that Tinubu becomes President. The script is simple: given the questionable health of General Buhari, Senator Tinubu who is desperate to be president for his own selisfh reasons will simply bid his time in
the evil expectation that General Buhari will not be able to go the whole hog.”

PoliticsGEJ’s Campaign Votes Millions To Hire Anti-Buhari Protesters In London (Pic) by msmon(op): 12:19am On Feb 26, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign has earmarked $20,000 to hire protesters in London Thursday as the presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, speaks at Chatham House.

According to an internal memo seen by PREMIUM TIMES, the money would be spent on mobilising the crowd, refreshing them and defraying other logistics.

The memo, which originated from the campaign’s Assistant Director, Civil Society and Support Groups (Diaspora), Peter Mozie, explained why the anti- Buhari protest is necessary, and requested the campaign’s Director in charge of Civil Society and Support Groups, Nick Eze, to immediately
release the funds.

Insiders in the campaign said the funds have since been released and sent to London while extensive mobilisation of protesters is now apace.

Mr. Mozie’s memo, entitled: “The Chatham House Rally: March Against Dictator” reads, “Nigerians in the Diaspora will converge at Chatham House, United Kingdom on Thursday, 26th of February, 2015 to show solidarity and support for President

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his transformation agenda in Nigeria as a surprise to the august visitor, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

“The solidarity rally will among other things address major progresses of President Goodluck Jonathan and many sins of General Muhammadu Buhari while he was military dictator.

“Talking Points:

1. Buhari is an unrepentant Dictator, who will never change no matter the number of suits he wears.

2. Buhari overthrew the democracy and ruled Nigeria despotically subverting human rights, imprisoning the innocent and jailed Nigeria’s foremost musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and innocent journalists for no just reason.

3. The rally will remind the international community about Buhari’s dictatorial leaning from 1983-1984 when many innocent Nigerians were killed, our democracy raped and Nigerian constitution suspended.

4. The rally will also draw the attention of opinion
leaders and diplomats in the United Kingdom
that Buhari should not be in Chatham House but
facing war crimes at the Hague before the
International Criminal Court, ICC, for genocide
against Christians and innocent Nigerians who
were killed by his supporters in 2011 on his
instructions when he campaigned in Minna,
Niger State and asked his supporters to unleash
mayhem if he lost the election.

5. Above all, to draw the attention of th international community to the fact that Nigerians have rejected Buhari thrice before and will still reject him for the 4th time. In essence, to tell the whole world that Nigerians reject Buhari.

This is so bad. Capitalizing on current state of little or no jobs to swindle unsuspecting victims is very bad.

Quite unfortunate.
CrimeJob Scammer Issues 400 Fake Nigeria Prison Service Appointment Letters(Pic) by msmon(op):
The Nigerian Prisons Service has apprehended a
suspected job scammer, James Odey, for allegedly
issuing fake letters of appointment to unsuspecting
job seekers in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Before his arrest, Odeh was said to have issued about 400 applicants with fake appointment letters into the Nigerian Prisons Service.

The Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, Francis
Enobore, said 31 victims had besieged the National
Headquarters of the Prisons Service with fake letters of appointment for documentation last Friday.

He said investigation indicated that the victims were duped by the suspect and his gang members, who posed as members of “Replacement Board” of the NPS.

Some of the victims claimed to have parted with
between N100,000 and N500,000 before they were
issued the fake letters of appointment.

The NPS spokesman said, “The appointment letters
prompted an investigation from the Intelligence Unit of the Service which led to the arrest of Odeh at his hideout.”

Enobore said the 31 applicants with fake
appointment letters and Odeh had been handed over to the police for further interrogation and
prosecution, while the search for other members of
the syndicate continued.

“The public is hereby advised to beware of fraudsters on the prowl, who take undue advantage of the congested labour market to inflict further pains on unsuspecting job seekers,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State command of the
Nigerian Immigration Service has arrested a 40-year old pastor, Victor Udom, for defrauding one of his church members, Mr. Eyo Akpan, of N500,000.

Udom, a prophet of Eternity Mission Church, Udo
Uweme, Uyo, was said to have collected N270,000
from Akpan to secure a job with the NIS for his
daughter, Miss Magdalene Akpan.

The state Controller, NIS, Abdullahi Garba, said
Magdalene brought an appointment letter which
Udom had prepared for her to start work in the
command.

He stated that Udom stole the appointment letter of
a former immigration officer who had died and
altered some information to reflect the currency of
the situation, including altering the man’s name to
that of Magdalene.

He said, “Udom promised to give employment to
Magdalene. He gave fake employment letter with a
forged signature of one Sylvester Johnson, as an offer of immigration job to Magdalene.

“Our officers were able to track him down and he is
with us. We intend to send him to Abuja for further
investigation.

“It may also interest you to know that Udom had
collected N270,000 from Magdalene’s father for
immigration and N230,000 for a job in ExxonMobil
from the same man. He is a serial fraudster. He has
confessed to us.

He stated that recruitment into NIS had started,
adding that the process was through online.

He explained that upon successfully completing the
online form, a Personal Identification Number would
be issued to each applicant for participation in the
online examination.

Udom, however, said somebody collected the money with a promised to get a job for the lady.
“When the family started disturbing me and the
person that collected the money refused to pick my
calls, I prepared the employment letter for Magdalene.

“One of my church members gave me that letter for
me to pray for him; the person is dead, he was working in NIS,” he said.

• Asks president to visit Chibok

Gboyega Akinsanmi

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on
Sunday alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan
had spent five days in the state, holding meetings
with different people and doling out monies in hard
currencies them.

Consequently, the governor described the president’s alleged outreach to different groups
including traditional rulers, cooperative societies and market women among others as an act of
desperation.

Fashola, who spoke after inspecting some ongoing
projects in Ibeju-Lekki and on Lagos Island yesterday, expressed disappointment at some statements credited to the president at meetings with the interest groups at the State House, Marina.

He said: “I want to assume that he did not make a
statement that he would deliver Lagos residents from bondage. The question to ask Mr. President is
whether he had come to free them from bondage.

“He was here for five days meeting with different
people and groups, distributing money in dollars. It is an un-presidential statement made in an act of
desperation. That means he lived in bondage in five
days if he had come into the state to free people.

“If he can live here for five days moving with patrol
vehicles that we paid for, let him go and spend five
days in Chibok and he will know what bondage is,”
the governor said while reacting to statements credited to the president.

PoliticsObasanjo Holds Crucial Talks With Gambian President, Tips Gambia For Greatness by msmon(op): 9:04pm On Feb 23, 2015
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has held crucial talks with President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia on the future of the West African nation, which on December 30 witnessed an attempted coup.

Mr. Obasanjo, who was one of four African leaders invited to private talks with President Jammeh after the 50th Independence Anniversary of The Gambia, briefed reporters on his visit, saying discussions centred on the recent coup attempt, security in The
Gambia and the future of the nation’s economy.

“One of the points that we looked at together is what this country has going for it,” Mr. Obasanjo said.

“There is relative peace, relative stability, relative continuity and relative security. These are necessary ingredients to fast track development
and growth as a democratic country.

“This is why I said to my brother (President Jammeh) that nothing stops The Gambia from being the Switzerland of West Africa. Switzerland is a small country but it is a great country.
Gambia is a small country but it is on the path of being great.

Mr. Obasanjo said it is in the interest of all Africans that The Gambia grows to become a great country.

“I, therefore, hold myself ready to be a partner in pursuance of that great objective,” he said.

After the meeting with Mr. Obasanjo, Mr. Jammeh held further talks with the Presidents of Ghana, Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea.

Ok!
Nairaland General7 Occasions You Should Never Consider Taking 'selfies' by msmon(op): 1:07pm On Feb 20, 2015
Selfies are definitely the in-thing now and almost
everyone with a portable camera device has been
tempted to indulge in this viral activity. Selfies are
basically self portrait photographs taken mostly
from a handheld digital camera device and shared
mostly on social network. Selfies involve the
camera being held at arms length or pointed at a
mirror to get images of oneself and others.

More so, the advent of social networking site
Instagram and others like Facebook and Twitter
have helped to increase the craze for selfies
coupled with our love for keeping memories. It is
however important to know that there are certain
times you should never be tempted to take selfies.

This is because of the dangers and how offensive it
would be to the people around and the public at
large. Here are some of the most bizarre incidences
of selfies you should never consider taking in
future.
Funerals
Since 2013, the practice of taking a selfie with a
corpse at a funeral made huge waves and was
widely in vogue as there was multiple reports and
it even making a worldwide trend issue on social
networking site, Twitter. A lot of people took to this
somewhat offensive trend which some others
considered made them have a connection with
their dead loved one. However, it seems grossly
inappropriate to do so, not only to the family and
relatives of the dead but also people around.

Suicide
The accompanying picture has been termed the
worst selfie ever taken by anybody. The picture
shows the lady taking a selfie of herself in front of
the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City just as two
officials were making an attempt to convince a man
from committing suicide. Though it is not clear
whether the lady in question knew what was about
to happen and made an attempt to capture the
moment. This however did not deter the New York
Post from giving the event coverage and getting
much needed condemnation against the lady.

Labour
The young man from Florida shown in this picture
(Malick Whiter) took a picture of his pregnant
teacher going into labour. What made it even more
inappropriate was the fact that he took the selfie in
class when there should have been a rush to
ameliorate the pain of the teacher and ensure safe
delivery.

At the hospital
Is it not just weird for you to take a selfie after
being involved in a serious road traffic accident? ,
we think it’s grossly inappropriate to take a picture
of yourself at this point whether you have your
friends and family with you or not as it is better to
rest through the traumatic moment.

n police custody
The possibility of taking a selfie when you’re
arrested by the police is slim as your mobile
devices would have probably been taking from you.
That wasn’t the case for two Australian youths who
took a selfie of themselves in handcuffs. This is a
terribly bad idea and should never be considered
even if your phone or camera is within reach.

Getting hit by a car
The exuberance of youth may make you want to
consider taking a selfie of you jumping over a
moving car which is a bad idea as you may just end
up taking a selfie of a car hitting and running over
you.

Driving a car
Why would you want to take a selfie of you driving
a car when we all know that driving requires your
undivided attention? The idea is totally wrong and
should never be entertained or else it might be
someone else taking a selfie of tour mangled car.

PoliticsFani-kayode Counters President Jonathan, Says Ekiti Rigging Tape Authentic by msmon(op): 9:42am On Feb 20, 2015
Contrary to President Goodluck Jonathan’s dismissal of the Ekiti rigging audio recording as a fabrication that is not worth his attention, the spokesperson for his campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode has admitted that the tape is genuine but that the characters involved in the meeting captured in the recording were not discussing how to rig the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Fani-Kayode said his team had listened to and reviewed the recording and that it came to the conclusion that the opposition All Progressives Congress turned fact on its head by claiming that Governor
Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state; former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; and the Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, who featured in the recording, planned how to rig the
election.

“We have listened to the audio clip and we make bold to say that the discussion that took place in it did not make any mention of any form of rigging in the Ekiti state governorship election and neither did it contain any evidence of any conspiracy to rig,” he
said.

Mr. Fani-Kayode also said rather than attempting to orchestrate rigging, what the audio clip clearly revealed was Governor Fayose expressing concerns
that a military commander was not acting on information about illegal movement of weapons into certain parts of the state.

“The Governor and others were apparently worried that safety of the voters and INEC officials could be
compromised if security measures were not strictly enforced,” he said.

Mr Fani-Kayode’s admission of the authenticity of the tape is another chapter in the series of contradictory responses from the ruling party and
those at the centre of the vote rigging plot.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, last Friday, Mr. Jonathan said he would not investigate the authenticity of the audio recording because it was a “fabrication.”

“It’s all fabrications. Why should I investigate things
that are not real?” he asked.

Using forensic analysis that compared the voices in
the recording with public record samples of the
individuals in the recording, Guardian Consulting,
The New York-based security firm, that helped
authenticate the recordings, confirmed that the tape was genuine.

“The voices from the recording were subjected to a
Forensic Voice Frequency Comparison against known samples and were found to match to a 98 per cent degree of certainty,” the firm said.

Mr Jonathan’s dismissal of the tape as a fabrication
came after Mr Obanikoro denied taking part in the
meeting and threatened to sue PREMIUM TIMES and
Sahara Reporters for their vigorous reporting on the
matter.

Mr. Adesiyan confessed that the recording was
genuine but that it was more of an altercation between Mr. Fayose and Mr. Momoh after the former
accused the later of favouring the then governor of
the state, Kayode Fayemi.

“Fayose accused the General who supervised the
Ekiti election of taking bribe from Fayemi and APC,
that was two days before the election. They called me because they said the General disarmed policemen and I told him to allow the policemen to do their job,” he told the Sunday Punch newspaper.

After initially claiming his voice was manipulated
using speech software such as Natural Voices, Mr.
Fayose later admitted during a political event in Ekiti that it was his voice that was captured in the tape but claimed he was rebuking Mr. Momoh for
favouring the APC.

“If you listen to the tape about military rigging in
Ekiti. Listen to the tape you will see that I was the
one accusing the army of compromise. Listen, take
time to listen. But they would come back with
propaganda and saying it all as if the whole world of
propaganda belongs to them,” he said.

Counter Allegation

While challenging the APC to do a critical content
analysis of the discussions in the audio clip, Mr. Fani- Kayode said it was the APC that rigged the
governorship election in Osun state.

“During the course of those elections, some of their
agents gathered in secret locations where they
thumb-printed ballot papers in favor of their
governorship candidate, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola,” he said.

Mr. Fani Kayode also played a video tape he claimed
proved the APC rigged the election in Osun state.

“It is ironic that instead of purging itself of its own
insatiable appetite for rigging and cheating, the APC, through its Presidential candidate, General
Muhammadu Buhari, chose to call a press conference in which he alleged that our leaders were ordering soldiers to rig in Ekiti state.

“This is a clear case of the pot calling the kettle
black,” he said.

APC, Buhari calling for violence At his press
conference, Mr. Fani-Kayode also accused the APC
and its presidential candidate of veiled attempts to
instigate violence in the country, while also undermining the nation’s armed forces.

“It is now very clear to us that the APC is determined to cause security breaches in the next few weeks.
This has been confirmed by their vigorous campaign of calumny against the military and their consistent demand that soldiers must not be deployed for security surveillance at the polling booths in the forthcoming elections,” he said.

Mr. Fani-Kayode also alleged what he termed subtle
threat of violence by Mr. Buhari at an APC leadership meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

“General Buhari said that the patience of the APC
and its leaders were on test. One wonders what he
means by that and what he and his supporters
intend to do once that patience runs out.

“In an AFP news report of Friday, February 6, 2015,
he was asked if he would accept the outcome of the
presidential election no matter how unfavourable.
Listen to his answer: “I am not going to lose; so I
won’t answer that question.”

“Again, only yesterday, Wednesday, February 18,
2015, in an interview on ARISE Television, General
Buhari was asked what his reaction would be if he
loses the election. His answer was: “We shall see.”

“As far as we are concerned, these are ominous and
subtle threats to unleash violence on the Nigerian
people and all those that he perceives are his
enemies in the event of his losing the election,” he
said.

Mr. Fani-Kayode said Mr. Buhari has succeeded in
inflaming the destructive passion of his supporters in the northern part of the country on many occasions in the past.

“We recall his unacceptable remarks on May 15,
2012 when he said “if what happened in 2011 should happen again in 2015, the dog and the baboon would be soaked in blood”.

“We witnessed the orgy of violence that they
unleashed shortly after the announcement of the
results of the 2011 presidential election, which the
Sheik Lemu Committee, in its report to the Federal
Government, said was caused by Buhari’s
inflammatory statements.

“We recall with sadness the massacre of some of our vibrant youth corps members who participated in the 2011 election as INEC’s ad-hoc staff in Bauchi State.

“We are concerned that the same thing may happen again given General Buhari’s divisive and inciting comments coupled with the APC’s violent
disposition,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said.

He said the attempt by the APC to discredit the use
of soldiers by promoting some “misleading audio
footage of the so-called rigging during the Ekiti
governorship election, in which one Captain Sagir
Koli was the dramatis personae, is childish and
absurd”.

He said the Nigerian Government deployed soldiers
in the Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections and all those elections were
devoid of violence.

“Remarkably, the APC won in Edo and Osun; APGA
won in Anambra, Labour Party won in Ondo while PDP won only in Ekiti State,” he said.

He added that the basis on which the APC is
agitating for the exclusion of soldiers from the
election by sponsoring court cases is patently
dubious and untenable.

“The reason that the APC and its leaders do not want soldiers deployed is to be able to intimidate voters and unleash violence on the polity once they lose the elections.

“They know that it would be far more difficult for
them to do that when soldiers are on the streets.
“With these dishonourable tactics and desperate acts by the APC, we are the ones who should be worried and who should be complaining but, unlike Buhari and the APC, our patience is not running out because we are committed to a peaceful election and we completely reject the option of violence,” he said.

PoliticsNon-Indigenes Of Lagos March To INEC Office To Demand PVCs (Pictured) by msmon(op): 8:55am On Feb 20, 2015
Some residents of Lagos State on Thursday marched to the state’s headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission at Yaba to demand the release of their Permanent Voter Cards.

The protesters, who carried placards with inscriptions such as, “INEC deliberately hold our PVCs,” “Non-indigenes of Lagos State refuse to be disenfranchised,” “We want to vote, give us our PVCs,” had first converged on the Yaba Market before marching to INEC’s office.

They were received by officials of the commission, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Akin Orebiyi.

Policemen from some police divisions in the state were also on hand to forestall a breakdown of law and order, as they formed a human shield around the INEC officials.

The protesters, in their address, alleged that INEC was being partial in the distribution of the PVCs, adding that some officials of the electoral body had been compromised.

The Chairman of Union of Non-indigenes in Lagos State, Francis Abang, said report from members of the group indicated that 70 per cent of them had yet to collect their PVCs.

He said, “At the last meeting we had, our members told me that more than 70 per cent of our people have not collected their PVCs. And without this card, we cannot vote. That is why we decided to come here and air our grievances. We want to vote.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the North Central indigenes in Lagos State, Obalaiye Boyede, said out of 15 polling units in his area in the Iyana Ipaja area of the state, only two had received PVCs.

Boyede said, “A general secretary with us went to Ikeja with his wife to collect his PVC, but they were turned back. I believe there is connivance between some political parties and some INEC officials. These parties are given PVCs in bulk to take home and when anybody raises questions, the situation turns rowdy just to cover up the act.

“In Abule Oki, Iyana Ipaja, where I came from, many of our people are being disenfranchised. Out of 15 polling units, it is only in two that PVCs have been distributed.”

Christopher Chimeze, a resident of the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area claimed he lost his job while chasing his PVC.

The Imo State indigene, who said he had lived all his life in the state, said he had made at least 12 futile attempts to get the card, but was frustrated.

Chimeze said his boss asked him to leave his job “after he did not find me on site on several occasions. But I won’t give up, because I believe my vote is what will make that right candidate to win the election.”

Onugha Remigus, a 70-year-old protester from the Mushin area of Lagos State, said, “INEC owes me. They used my shop, table and chairs for the distribution of the PVCs and yet, they didn’t give me my card.”

Another resident, Uche David, said there was a deliberate plot to disenfranchise the Igbos in the state.

He said, “If you go to Ajeromi, you will discover that those from the South-South are being deliberately sidelined. In Ajegunle, they are burning the PVCs of non-indigenes and this is bad. We need our PVCs to vote.”

The REC, Orebiyi, promised to look into the complaints, adding that he would visit the affected areas.

He said, “We apologise for the trouble you have had to face to collect your PVCs. Our Chairman, Attahiru Jega, yesterday (Wednesday) addressed the senate on the challenges we are facing.

“We are still awaiting one million PVCs, which have yet to arrive. As soon as they arrive, we will give them to you. We will also investigate the claim that PVCs are being hijacked in some places and any of our officials found culpable will be sanctioned. But be assured that on the part of INEC, there is no plan to disenfranchise anyone.

“We have five weeks to elections. For the next three weekends till March 8, we shall distribute the PVCs.”

Our military sources said the evolving machination
threatens to polarize the military as several mid-level
officers are reported to be furious with their superiors
who are warming up to the idea.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK

President Goodluck Jonathan and his closest cronies
are still collaborating with a tight-nit circle of military officers to scuttle Nigeria’s general elections that had been postponed by six weeks from the original date of February 14, 2015, according to revelations by several political and security sources.

After failing to gain traction with the floating a so-
called government of national unity, Mr. Jonathan
and his associates have placed renewed hope in
persuading some top military generals to force
another postponement of the elections, once again
using insecurity as their ruse.

SaharaReporters had revealed through several
reports that President Jonathan was set on invoking
the climate of insecurity in Nigeria’s northeast to win a postponement of the elections. However, with
members of his party admitting that Mr. Jonathan’s
electoral fortunes remain dire, the president has
been persuaded by hawks close to him to try a fresh
tactic of using the uneasy military situation in the
northeast to thwart the elections.

Our sources disclosed that the latest plot is being
anchored by the National Security Adviser, retired
Colonel Sambo Dasuki, who has virtually assumed
the functions of the Minister of Defense, Aliyu Gusau.

The minister of defense, Gusau who is the NSA's in-
law has been tipped to head an interim government
in case it becomes a necessity. A military source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sambo was now deploying his tremendous financial power to recruit top army generals into doing his bidding. Apart from the NSA, Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison Madueke and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State were identified as the other important players in the latest risky gamble to further postpone elections.

Whilst Ms. Alison Madueke has been providing funds to finance the new plot, Governor Mimiko has been offering strategic advice on how to combat politicians within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) who may be opposed to the scheme.

Our military sources said the evolving machination
threatens to polarize the military as several mid-level officers are reported to be furious with their superiors who are warming up to the idea.

One source described President Jonathan as
unperturbed by the clamor for elections, telling
members of his kitchen cabinet that his decisions are based upon advice from army generals fighting
against Boko Haram.

Although Nigeria’s military top brass had claimed
that they would wipe out Boko Haram in six weeks,
the evidence points to the reality that the Islamist
terrorist group may be growing stronger and
increasing its ability to strike against new targets.

Recently, the Islamist insurgent group has launched
a series of attacks on Gombe and Adamawa State,
the latest state in the northeast. They have also
captured a few more towns in Borno State.

The postponement of the election appears to have
given Boko Haram militants a new boost. In a recent
video released few days ago by its leader, Abubakar
Shekau, the group talked about their disruption of
the upcoming elections.

One security source said the latest plan to scuttle the elections would involve a deliberate effort to allow the security climate to worsen across Nigeria. One plank of the plan is to sponsor Niger Delta militants to cause havoc in the oil-rich delta region in the coming weeks. If the situation becomes dire enough, President Jonathan would then have grounds to declare a national emergency that would make elections impossible in March.

Recently, political thugs financed by Mrs. Patience
Jonathan began shooting at opposition rallies held in Rivers State. Such politically-motivated attacks have also been planned for several other states of the federation to create an atmosphere that would get more Nigerians to accept the unviability of holding elections, according to several sources.

“The goal by Mr. President is to achieve another postponement of the elections, but this time by six months,” a source familiar with the plot disclosed.

A source stated that the plan explained the fact that Nigeria’s security services have yet to schedule an inter-agency briefing with top officials of the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discuss a comprehensive strategy for guaranteeing security during the elections.

Mr. Jonathan’s military option is meant to proceed in tandem with a parallel plan to offer massive bribes to members of the National Assembly to win their support for a six-month extension of the tenure of his administration. Several lawmakers said they were aware of the plan, but added that there was little hope of a majority of legislators backing the plan.

In what represents a third plank of the plot, several
cronies of Mr. Jonathan have filed or plan to file
lawsuits aimed at scuttling the elections by seeking
the disqualification of the APC’s presidential
candidate, Muhammadu Buhari. At the latest count,
some 11 lawsuits have been filed by persons or
entities tied to Mr. Jonathan, including the
government of Plateau State which has filed a case
asking INEC to discard it current voters roll in favor of the one used in 2011.

•I’m not aware of any bribe – Kaduna CAN
chairman
•Jonathan bribed pastors with N7b, not
N6bn Cleric
•Rivers PDP demands apology from
Amaechi
•Nobody can buy me over, says Lagos CAN
chairman

Harcourt) and Aramide Oikelome (Lagos)

The Kaduna State Chairman of CAN has denied any knowledge of an arrangement where money was shared to chairmen of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 36 states of the federation by anyone.

The state CAN Chairman, George Dodo, told Daily Independent in an interview that he was not aware of any meeting where money was shared.

Governor Chibuike Amaechi in the course of campaigning for the APC Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, recently had accused Ministers of God in the country of collecting a bribe of N6 billion to take sides with the party in 2015 general elections.

Amaechi alleged that unnamed leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party paid N6 billion to Christian clerics to campaign against Buhari and the APC.

Since then many pastors have challenged him to be courageous enough to name the pastors who collected the bribe.

But as if to confirm the bribery allegation, a Borno-based Pastor and Executive Director of the Voice of Northern Christian Movement, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, said on Thursday that the President Goodluck Jonathan actually gave them N7 billion and not N6 billion as alleged by Amaechi who doubles as the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation.

Dikwa who said the money was channeled through Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, President of CAN, disclosed that CAN got the said money on January 26, 2015 and disbursed N3 million each to its state chairmen across the country.

According to Dikwa, an Associate Pastor with the E. Y. N. Church (Enklesiyan Yan’uwan A Nijeriya) Farm Centre Dikwa Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, under Rev. Emmanuel Kwajihe between 2002-2004, “CAN had started threatening Christians in the state (Borno) that they must re-elect President Jonathan in the rescheduled election”.

Dodo, however, queried the credibility of the person behind the report, saying many people were out there just seeking for relevance.

“If, according to reports, that the said Pastor Dikwa is close to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, then the best person to ask would be the CAN National Chairman to confirm the authenticity or otherwise of the person’s story. This is because I am not aware and as such, cannot speak about something I know nothing about.

“As for the man claiming to be of the Christian faith, I don’t know him and I leave him to God,” ,” the Kaduna CAN stated.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has demanded unreserved apology from Governor Amaechi over his bribery allegation against the Christian folk.

The state PDP on Thursday expressed sadness over the allegation of bribery leveled against ministers of God for purposes of the 2015 general elections.

Describing it as “unsubstantiated” allegation against Ministers of God to vote for certain political office seekers, the PDP in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Party Chairman, Felix Obuah, said there was no other reason for the baseless and malicious allegation than to drag Christianity to the mud.

The party said: “This, among other reckless utterances of Amaechi, clearly shows the inner thinking and direction of the APC.”

It warned that the calm disposition of Christianity and the gentleness of its adherents must not be taken for granted to insult the ministers of God.

Wondering whether a Muslim brother and, or faithful, as Amaechi claims to be a Christian, could under any guise profane his religion or its leaders in the manner he has done, the PDP demanded unreserved apology from the governor for the undeserved insult to ministers of God.

It warned the APC leadership to call Amaechi and members of his campaign organisation to order.

Also reacting to the allegation, the Chairman of CAN, Lagos Chapter, Apostle Alex Bamgbola, has declared that no one can buy him over with money, let alone trampling on his values and integrity.

Bamgbola said: “There is no human being on earth that can buy me; I am not for sale. If I had been for sale, you wouldn’t find me here. I had access to petroleum when I came back to Nigeria in 1979. I was on the board of 17 companies, then God called me and said everything give it away. I owned ten per cent of two banks and about 25 per cent of three insurance banks, God said never return there and I left it all.”

Speaking further on the said amount given to CAN, he said that the issue is a sad and controversial one and that curses have been pronounced on whoever collected such money from politicians, hence he would not want to comment on it.

“The issue is too sensitive and I won’t want to comment on it. Let the national office of CAN respond as to whether they collected such money or not,” he said.

Bamgbola added that the Elders Forum of CAN has decided not to comment of the alleged bribe scandal again.

When our Correspondent put a call through to the national president of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, he was said to be in church for evening service, hence he would not react to the matter as at press time.
