The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party and its governors have said they have confidence in the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega. This position was stated at a press briefing addressed by the National Chairman of the ruling party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu in Abuja on Thursday. At the briefing, which was held at the national headquarters of the party, were some governors of the party led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, who is also the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio. The position of the party and its governors was a departure from the position of its campaign directorate which had threatened to pass a vote of no confidence in Jega and his team. The campaign team, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, had complained about the distribution of the Permanent Voter Cards, which it alleged was being skewed in favour of the opposition, the All Progressives Congress. Mu’azu however differed on this at the press briefing, saying that the postponement of the elections would enable the chairman of the commission and his team to distribute the remaining voter cards. He said even President Goodluck Jonathan had expressed confidence in the chairman of the commission and that with that, there was no way the party would defer from the President’s position. He said, “You asked if the party has confidence in Jega? My answer is not far-fetched. “The President stated during his media briefing last night (Wednesday) that he has confidence in Jega. “We also have confidence in Jega that he and his team will conduct free, fair and transparent elections.” www.punchng.com/news/pdp-has-confidence-in-jega-says-muazu/ |

A man purported to be Lagos governor’s uncle, Alhaji Kayode Fashola, has been accused of beating up his wife. In the viral message posted by one Rachel Adenuaga on social media, the Alhaji in question was labelled as irresponsible, chronic womaniser, unrepentant drunk and a chain smoker. Rachel Adenuga, who claims to be a close friend of Alhaji Fashola’s second wife, posted the message below on facebook and it has since gone viral. “The man in this picture is Alhaji Kayode B Fashola popularly known as Uncle K. He is an Uncle to the present Governor of Lagos State Tunde Fashola. he lives at 21, Akinhanmi Street Surulere. I have decided to post this on facebook so that people know the kind of person he is and for the public to be careful. The woman in picture is his legally married second wife. Her offence is that he found a complimentary card on her table. And without asking questions, he locked the door and almost beat her to death. Again I must warn the public that this man is not only a wife beater, he is a smoker, a drunk, extremely jealous and a chronic womaniser. He boasted that he is above the law in Lagos by virtue of his position but we all know that no one is above God.” Source: http://naijatobad..com/2015/02/too-bad-see-how-gov-fasholas-uncle.html

GMB is right, but for Obasanjo to have publicly endorse a candidate is utmost stupidity judging by his position in Nigeria politics. ************************************************* Stealing Vs Corruption. *The more you talk and try to justify an action of statement, the more you appear like a fool.* According to the dictionary; cor·rup·tion - /kəˈrəpSH(ə)n/ noun 1. dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery. 2. the process by which something, typically a word or expression, is changed from its original use or meaning to one that is regarded as erroneous or debased. steal - /stēl/ verb 1. take (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it. 2. move somewhere quietly or surreptitiously. Mr. President, I believe u can now see that corruption is not 'only stealing' while stealing is corruption. Basically, stealing is a subset of corruption just like forgery, bribery etc. |

*The president said he doesn't get invitation from muslims? That's sentimental, as the president of a secular state you should treat every religion equally. If possible, visit the Ogboni and traditionalists. * I don't understand he can't just accept stealing is corruption, I don't care who he quoted whatsoever. If Wole Soyinka of all people said corruption isn't stealing, I will invite him for a debate. Listen mr. President, stealing is a subset of corruption. * And u have the constitutional power to sack Jega, you must be aware it's with the approval from national assembly. Tragedy struck in the Mushin area of Lagos State after a 35-year-old tricycle rider, Olalekan Salisu, fell into a soakaway in his house and died. He was said to be starting his small generator on the soakaway around 9pm on Sunday when the slab covering the soakaway gave way. The generator and the Ogun State indigene were said to have fallen into the soakaway. Residents said it took about five hours before the victim, who was married with two kids, could be brought out. He was brought out dead. Tension was still high on Wednesday when PUNCH Metro visited the scene of the incident, a two-storey building on Anipele Street, Olorunshogo, Mushin. Our correspondent observed that two fresh concrete slabs had been prepared to replace the damaged one which was at the back of the house. Faeces, said to have been drained out of the soakaway with pumping machines in frantic bid to remove the victim, were still in the gutters in the area. Some of the deceased’s co-tenants, however, denied living in the house or knowing about the incident. They declined to talk to PUNCH Metro. One particularly threatened to beat up our correspondent. One of the tenants, who did not identify himself, asked our correspondent to leave immediately. He said, “Look, everybody is sad. The man that died here is young and his family has left the house for their home town after the incident. The landlord does not live here with us. If you want to get any information, come back when his family returns or when everybody is in a good mood.” However, some residents of the area claimed that the tenants were trying to cover up what had happened in the house. A resident, John Ademola, who said he was among those that attempted to save the victim on the night of the incident, explained that the tenants usually put generators on the soakaway which must have weakened the slab and caused the tragedy. He said, “On that night, the man, who lived on the second floor, came outside to turn on his generator after a power outage. “The generator, which was on the soakaway, started working and as the man was about leaving, the soakaway caved in and he and the generator fell inside. “As he was going down, he shouted for help and that was what made people know that something bad had happened.” Our correspondent learnt that all attempts to remove him proved abortive, until someone called men of the Lagos State Fire Service. The firemen were said to have inserted pipes into the soakaway to drain the wastes after which the victim was brought out dead. The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, while confirming the incident, said a fireman, Joshua Akindele, descended into the soakaway to evacuate the victim. He said, “The fireman went in with a sealing hook and a ladder. With the aid of the hook, he found the location where the victim was buried in the faeces. He then went into the basement of the septic tank using the ladder. “He used a side of the victim’s shoulder to bring him up and tied a rescue rope over his body before drawing him up.It was a difficult situation.” Fadipe warned people in the state to avoid using septic tank as a passageway or a facility for storage of generators, which could weaken the slabs and lead to avoidable disaster. www.punchng.com/metro-plus/tricyclist-falls-into-soakaway-while-starting-generator/ |
