Please what are the required document at the POE at the US airport. What are the likely questions.
Not much questions. Why you're here in America? Where you're headed to? Which school you're headed to? And in my case the officer asked if I was really the age that was quoted on my passport and if I was truly coming for a graduate course. Lol

You'll need your passport and I-20 there.

I'm a bit curious about the bolded. How is having a return ticket a very fast way to get sent back? Can you be so kind as to elaborate further on that?
Huge lie. Don't bother yourself jare. I had a return ticket, and the officer at the POE didn't even bat an eyelid. My friend is in Naija right now and she came in with a return ticket, which she eventually flew back with. Nobody complained.

Most people buy return tickets because it's economical on the long run. Not for any other thing. One way or return, the POE officer doesn't send. Afterall, you're holding an F-1 visa, you can come and go as you want.

@bolded...I couldn't agree with you more. It is absolutely true! the reason I gave for my choice of the school in my SOP was the exact same reason I told the VO for choosing the school.

In fact, the decision to accept me by the school was based on my SOP, recommendations, and test score; to the extent that a faculty emailed me, telling me how my application impressed him and he would want me to join his research group. I noticed that before they received my academic transcript, they had made their decision on my acceptance.

Thanks MsNas!! no be small shakara I don do....
Yes ooo. Put all the efforts you've got into your application for admission and your visa interview might be a stroll in the park. smiley

JabinodelaRatta:
One thing I noticed during my interview was that even before I was called up by the VO, the decision had already been made, that is my visa had been granted. This gives credence to what MsNas talked about. That the US embassy carries out a kind of preliminary review on all applicants using the Ds-160 form and Sevis information provided by the intended school of the applicant. How do I know? When I was telling the VO about the funding I received from the school, she looked at her screen and quoted the exact amount of my annual stipends even when she did not ask for my letter of acceptance where the amount was quoted and I didn’t submit it to her. I was shocked!! Note that this amount wasn’t stated in my I-20, it was just the total amount of funding provided by my school that was stated in the I-20.
Another thing I noticed was that she wasn’t really interested in what I had to say because she was talking to the security while I was responding to her questions and also she never allowed me to complete my statements.
Congrats bro. Welcome to the Land of the free. As per what I said, my roomate, who is a GA with the International Students Office was the one that gave the the gist. She even told me that the schools knows who will get visas and who will never get it and those who just needs to convince the VO to give them the visa.

Why I'm saying this is so prospective applicants can put in the utmost best into their applications. She gave me example of a Nigerian guy who's SOP has a ton of grammatical errors!! He even swapped using he for female and she for male shocked Such was the error. Yet this person claimed he was coming in for graduate studies and had nailed a 97 in TOEFL. How manage? She said the International Students Coordinator just pointed out the errors in the SOP before uploading into the SEVIS website and told her categorically that "This guy can never get a visa"

Your visa decision starts from the moment you put in the application for admission. Don't do standardized tests for embassy's sake. The VO will know you never used the test in securing the admission, cos it won't be among the documents the school uploaded unto the SEVIS website. Be consistent, any information you use in securing the admission should barely change from the one used for visa interview. I don't know it all. Just chipping in my bit.

Once again, Congrats JabinodelaRatta. You deserved it, so do shakara today cheesy

No one has a good explanation for his denial; I guess we re all just guessing and suggesting. VOs can be funny. They r unpredictable. The fact that you were given a visa for different program from Ur undergraduate doesn't mean they would give someone else. Every applicants' case is peculiar. You guys should let that guy be and let's move on!
I was talking to repsin and profojah. And they weren't complaining too.

@profojah. Your interview transcript was a good one but I have to point out some things on it.
Firstly, you need to build a link between your UG degree and your intending MS major. The VO wanted to help fill up that space reason why he asked what your project was all about.
Secondly, you don't give a VO what he has not or did not ask it's simply a sign of desperation and I guess you were indisposed.
My recommendation: Apply to a course related to what you studied. It makes your case easier with little or no explanation. Americans love continuity and consistency.
What about people who switched majors and got their visas on their first trial without breaking a sweat at the interviews? How on earth did you come to that conclusion? Almost all the Americans in my graduate class did something entirely different for undergraduate. So, where did that theory come from?

I agree he needs to give a reason for his switch to forensics via work experience. But saying he should drop that for something along the lines of his undergraduate degree doesn't sound right to me. Also, applying for a visa right after NYSC is no crime.

Thanks MsNas ...that's d best I would do now(defer to fall2015)...
..The statement of account I used on Friday isn't the one I used during my admission application but they are both owned by same person...the one I used during my admission is UBA while d one on Friday is Fidelity bank ....the closing balance for both acct are much more than a yr tuition n accommodation...
And we have d same surname ( with my uncle)
Make sure you take time to fill your next DS-160, and put in every information that can help your case about the switch in majors. I heard(I'm not sure though) that the US embassy does something like a pre-selection process on every visa application before your final interview. Your DS-160 plays a major role in that.

I will also advise you to try and go with that same bank that you went used in the application. It might not be the problem, but it couldn't hurt. I know for sure that all schools upload all the documents you used in securing your admission(Test Score reports, Statement of Account, SOP, Recommendation Letters e.t.c) to the SEVIS database and the VO looks them up. As I said, it might not be the issue but it can't hurt. I wish you good luck next time you apply
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by MsNas(f): 8:25pm On Dec 14, 2014
Profojah,
Your interview was on point and your GPA was awesome. Good school too. I would advise you not to reapply for a visa now but defer your admission. Reapplying now reeks of desperation and your circumstances haven't changed from your last interview. Use the hiatus to re-fill your DS-160 form, this time more carefully. Make sure you take time to put in your work experience that aligns with your new switch in your DS-160.

Quick question, the statement of account you gave the VO, was it the same one you used in applying for admission?

Botany and palynology to cyber forensic and counter terrorism huh Well I wonder why the VO didn't ask why the switch from a plant and rock scientist to deep core Information Technology profession. I wonder why VO didn't ask if you have any work experience or maybe you ain't telling us something. Anyways, try and refire
One of my classmates switched from Zoology to IT. And the VO didn't give him grief. I switched from Physics to IT, I got my visa. Switching majors is no automatic grounds for denial.

I have been a passive observer on this thread dare I say for years, I just need a bit of targeted advice. I'm a serving corp member, I studied economics, GPA(3.6) ( its not awesome I know) . 322 GRE, no publications and limited research experience. My family is middle class and any form of scholarship or assistantship would really help. I'm currently applying to Oklahoma state, University of Alaska Fairbanks (m.sc economics), IUP. I'll deeply appreciate if any of the gurus will please suggest one or two 'generous and not too selective school' that will give this negro some sort of funding. I'll deeply appreciate it and if you consider this question redundant, forgive me.
University of Kansas
University of Arkansas
Kansas State University

Not giving a guarantee, but you can try those. Your GRE was awesome, so you shouldn't have any problems. Alaska??

You are from Ibadan according to what i saw on your profile. Hence you are pained because of my comment. If this story was about igbos and the bigots from your place made the same comment as i did, you would have pretended not to see it.

Tell your brothers and kinsmen to grow up. The other yoruba actress whose video was released while she was giving her boyfriend a bj was leaked by the same boyfriend who is also your tribesman. Tell your tribeswomen to stop taking nude pics and allowing their boyfriends to video them during s3x in order to avoid stories like this and also advice your tribesmen to stop living off the money from women. SUCH ACTIONS MAKE THEIR REASONING BELOW PAR AND THEY ARE DISGRACING US OVER THERE AND BRINGING THE NAME OF NIGERIA TO DISREPUTE.

And by the way, if you have taken a nude pic before and shown it to your yoruba bf/fiance, be very afraid and stop antagonizing me here.
