House i need advice ooo, my uncle in the state called me yesterday and told me to leave school(fall out of status) so that i can go work in newyork. before now, this same uncle didn't support my coming to the state, financially and otherwise. but now he wants me to leave school to a state where his not even in. He was saying who is going to pay my tuition, who will do this, who will do that, i said sir, i have gotting 2 jobs on campus, my department has schorship, and more over i have paid half of my tuition(1500) my tuition is about $3k, i dont stay on campus, and my feeding is garanted, accomdation is ok, feeding is ok, but my uncle said i should forget that one, and see to what his telling me. House i need ur advice oo, my uncle wan kill me.

I think you have your answer already. Sorry to ask this, but is your Uncle college educated? Because he won't be preaching to you to fall out of status if he is. Is he the one paying your fees? Does he give you money every month?

And come to think of it, you shouldn't even be asking these questions. It is a no-brainer. You shouldn't even be thinking of heeding to your Uncle's demands no matter the pressure. So, you'll fall out of status and then what? Be illegal and work under the table jobs that will pay you a max of minimum wage and maybe a little more? Then maybe hold out of hope of jamming an American to marry and file papers for you? That ain't life. Its torture.

You have a job, you have a scholarship, you've paid half of your fees. Save up, pay the rest and try and graduate with good grades. Pray and fast and you'll get a good job. Fall out of status and... Well, go and ask about tales of people who fell out of status. Don't let your uncle push you off the deep end.

Please do I need to take the TOEFL test for schools that says if your primary language is English no need for TOEFL. With your undergrad GPA, I suggest you rewrite GRE to get at least a score of 300 or more. Then finding funding will be so easy for you. Most assistantships are competitive and most schools require at least a score of 300 or more before you're considered. You also do not wanna go to a below par school because your evaluated GPA is enough to get you into the top schools.

Rewrite GRE, get killer recommendations, top-notch SOP and you will get whatever funding you have without much ado (with prayers though). My opinion though..

Nope. Not possible. At least in Arkansas where I live. I know some states allow you to drive with Intl drivers license for a while before getting the state issued one but AR doesn't allow that.

I had to do the written test first, then a permit will be issued. A waiver can be issued so that you don't have to wait the mandatory 4-6 weeks after you get the permit before you take the road test....That is if you have your Nigerian Drivers License with you. But you def still have to do the written and road test.

You shouldn't be fearful of the test though, it's not that hard. Lol. Mine barely lasted 15mins and most of it was in the inner streets not a major highway.

Depending on your state, you don't need an SSN to get a State ID. You'd need your I-20(Signed), I-94, Nigerian Passport, School ID and cash for the State ID. Your photo will be taken at the DMV.

Yeah. Maybe. I was trying to apply for MS Physics/Geophysics at the time. It was just too much for me. Had to talk to a myriad of supervisors. I just gave up.

They give. But it's kinda very hard and tedious to get one unlike in the US. Most times, it's your supervisor that gives the funding, not the school. It's almost like schools in California. Applying to grad school in Canada is also story for another day. So many merry go rounds... At least for me.

Dear forumites I applied for a renewal of my F-1 Student Visa through the Drop Box Visa Renewal Program at the U.S. Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria on December 2014 but on Wednesday January 7th 2015 I received an e-mail from the Correspondence Unit (TMI) US CONSULATE GENERAL LAGOS, NIGERIA stating that the they needed to see me in person inorder to proceed with my case. But the problem I am having right now is that my school resumes on Monday January 12th, 2015 for the spring semester. It is advisable to depart the United States while school is so close to resumption. It is worthy of note to point out that when I was filling the DS-160 nonimmigrant Visa Petition I also mentioned the following information listed below
(1) That I have a pending immigrant petition filed on my behalf by my sibling
(2) That I have a valid work authorization card issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
(3) That I have four siblings currently residing in the United States three of whom are United States citizens and one a permanent resident

I thought acctng...we had 3 accounting arms for each level (ss1-3). My dear, I lost count of how many acct teachers, of which I didn't even know them till the day Ministry of Education came - I was surprised to see over 10teachers telling me and my fellow corp member that we suppose to be reporting to them. These are people we have never seen. They don't even set tough questions - I remember setting my exam questions and the principal asked me if I'm sure they can answer this one
-I can remember being told to approximate 35 to 40 so the student can @least get an E
-I can remember seeing so any exotic cars by 7:45 to sign attendance - by 9am...you can count the no of cars/teachers that would be remaining.

In govt schools the student don't even come to school, they don't even like to take their test...
So where would you even see the 700 scripts to mark?
Is it the script that you can mark in 30secs? Because they wouldn't write anything sensible

In a govt school, you may just have to teach twice in a week(a particular arm/class). The students don't even challenge you, so it's easy for you to enter the class and freestyle. You can't compare it to teaching private students - that keep asking you both the one that is their business and the one that isn't

By the way private school pass private sch...my secondary sch had 12arms of each class from Jss1 - Ss3 (it was a private sch). Not all private schools are densely populated

That's not also entirely true. I went to a government school, albeit missionary. So, it was still sane in there. My JS1 - SS 3 had at least 8 arms. My JS alone had, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H S, T, L, O. You were placed into those arms according to your performance in your common entrance and subsequent promotion exams. It promoted good and healthy study ethics amongst the students cos no one wanted to be in the S, T, L and O classes. It was reserved for dull students. Who said government schools can't be good?

Who said students in government schools can't challenge you? Huge lie. We gave our teachers work to do. And this was a female only high school. And I know of a lot of other govt schools like that. We had set periods for each class every day and week. Out class captain had to fill attendance sheet for each teacher every period. Miss your classes too much and the principal will be all up in your space.

Who told you teachers in government schools don't teach anything? Just because you went private schools or you taught at a substandard government secondary school doesn't mean all private schools are good and all secondary are bad. You can't base your conclusions on a a single story. I went to St. Louis, Ibadan and people that know it's pedigree despite being a government school can testify.

On the flip side, my younger sisters went to various private schools in Ibadan. And while they are not cheap (not one bit) , the teachers weren't paid in proportion to the fees that was being charged the pupils. They also didn't have much to do. At most, each level of class had three arms. So sample other scenarios and opinions next time.

Depends on the agreement your school has/haf with a bank. In dome cases, you might be allowed to open a bank account with only your school ID and some other docs. But truthfully, The chances are bleak.
