BusinessRe: Nigerian Abroad Looking For Business Ideas From His Fellow Nigerians by mubaraqqq(f): 11:20pm On Apr 30, 2012
@najesus4mi

first, here are the answers to your questions.

How much is the price of bread? between N60-N150(these are the average prices)
How much is a litre of petrol? N100-N200 (depending if it's from a filling station or black market which will most likely be more than N200)
How much does a teacher make per month? from N10000 above (you'll definitely see people who are paid much lower than that)
How much is a bottle of coke (aka minerals lol)? N60 for the 30cl glass bottle, N70 for the 50cl glass bottle, N120 for the plastic bottle and N100 for can. i think they always have N5 increment every year(that's my opinion).

next, there are a lot of businesses you can start but one that's really good is the recharge voucher/card business. if you have someone you trust handle it for you, you'll surely reap benefits from it.

here's an article that will give you some tips and advice.

NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA TIPS ON STARTING A RECHARGE VOUCHER BUSINESS IN NIGERIA WHILE LIVING ABROAD.
If you are a Nigerian abroad looking for a business to invest in back home, then the recharge voucher printing business might be the one for you. However, since you will not be in Nigeria, you will need to find a trusted relative or friend to help you manage it (Good luck with that!).

Most Nigerians want to start a business back home in order to have another source of income so that when they are being asked to send money they can easily use the income from that business. Furthermore, they want to use the profits of the business to start building their dream home in Nigeria. A recharge business seems to fit that bill and does not require intensive capital......

i really hope this will be of great help to you.

if you're going to study abroad(usa), you'll need serious help. here's an article that would really help when you become a student abroad:

10 WEBSITES TO HELP NIGERIAN STUDENTS IN DIASPORA
Being a foreign student is not an easy task. Some Nigerian students are lucky if they have relatives abroad they can stay with to offer them guidance. Others are thrust right in the middle of it all, not understanding where to start and who to turn to for help. The only thing they do know is that they must enroll in school and maintain a certain amount of credit in order to stay legal in the country. Fortunately, there is little bit of help available to foreign students. This help comes in the form of advice, scholarships, insurance coverage, and travel grants among other services.
OF COURSE SOME OF THESE THINGS ARE NOT FREE (AFTERALL, THIS AMERICA) MAKE YOU OPEN YOUR EYE WELL WELL.

Below are 10 websites which are solely dedicated to providing services or information to foreign students.

BusinessRe: Is Cyber Cafe Business Going Extinct In Nigeria? by mubaraqqq(f): 9:13pm On Dec 12, 2011
The problem with Nigeria and Nigerians when it comes to business is that nobody wants to think outside the box. Everybody wants to do what tom, Joystick and harry and is doing.

Cyber Cafe is still a profitable business in Nigeria for 2 reasons. '
1. It will take a long time before there is light in Nigeria
2. it will take a long time for everyone in Nigeria to have internet access in their home

So if you open a cyber cafe in Nigeria, it will be profitable as long long

1. You have the best customer service possible, there is no customer service in Nigeria. Most business in Nigeria lack this
2. Use the latest technology, which means your computers are fast
3. Include a eatery/ resturant/ snack place
4. Have a business section where people can fax/ copt/ print/ bind presentation
5. Including a learning center on typing, microsoft programs computer courses

These are just some of the things you can do to set your cyber cafe apart .

I hope this article can be good place for you to get some ideas about some business in Nigeria. Like everything else, you have to do your own research and consider all the risk factors:

3 BUSINESS IDEAS YOU Can Start IN NIGERIA
Starting a CyberCafe Business in Nigeria: Technological advancements in Nigeria have brought about a variety of positive changes. Many Nigerians are now proud owners of various technology-based businesses that are yielding nice returns. One of these businesses is a CyberCafé, Nigerians can go and pay to use the Internet for a certain amount of time.

One thing to keep in mind regarding this business is that the industry is evolving fast. When cybercafe first got started in Nigeria, the Internet was still a novelty and was very expensive to get into people’s homes. Nowadays in Nigeria, many people have laptops and have access to the Internet, however, there is still a majority that cannot afford Internet access at home, which is why a CyberCafe is still a profitable business in Nigeria. Starting a Cell Phone Business in Nigeria: The cell phone business: is perhaps one of the most lucrative businesses in Nigeria today. Cellphones have become integral to everyday life in Nigeria, and people simply cannot live without them anymore. Even after buying one phone, many Nigerians want to get another one or buy a different model. In order to do so, they must go to a cell phone store, which are now popping up everywhere in Nigeria. These stores have become quite a significant and lucrative business. They have become the type of business that can be started by a person who is just arriving in Nigeria from abroad, or even by a person who is still living abroad.

Consultancy business: This is perhaps one of the newest emerging business opportunities in Lagos, Nigeria. Everywhere in Lagos today, the new catch word is ‘outsourcing.’ This means employing or contracting an outsider to handle the duties or job that the employees of a company would normally perform. This phenomenon is occurring in developing economies. Forward-looking individuals and business organizations are increasingly outsourcing services outside their areas of core competence to other professionals, usually for a fee.

Car TalkRe: Getting An International Driving Licence In Nigeria by mubaraqqq(f): 11:39pm On Nov 11, 2011
If you are a Nigerian traveling outside the country and you wish to drive abroad, you would need to obtain an International Driver’s license, also known as the International Driving Permit (IDP). An IDP is a document that allows an individual to drive a private vehicle in another country; it is slightly larger than a standard passport and it is complete with one’s photographs and other statistical data.

GETTING AN INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENSE IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

Ideally, before you can get a driver’s license in Nigeria, you would have to take some driving tests for the issuing authority to make sure that you really know how to drive before handing your international license. BUT this is Nigeria, and being a local can be beneficial with regards to getting an International Driving license that can be readily used abroad.

BusinessRe: Easiest Way To Send Money from Nigeria to US? by mubaraqqq(f): 11:46am On Nov 11, 2011
It is uncommon to send money from Nigeria to a recipient abroad. The usual activity is that the Nigerians who are working overseas are the ones who are sending money back to their families and relatives in Nigeria. However, due to the negative reports about Nigeria being a country for money laundering activities, one cannot send or receive money through Western Union Transfer Fund.

HOW TO SEND MONEY FROM NIGERIA

Open a foreign currency domiciliary account – a domiciliary account is a foreign currency dominated account and all banks in Nigeria are offering this kind of services.

REQUIREMENTS:

Identification Card:
International passport
Driver’s license
National I.D
Tax clearance card
2 Reference letters (2 letters from 2 domiciliary account holders under the same bank you are opening an account with)
Utility bills (PCHN, Water bill, NITEL)
2 passport photos
100USD or 50Pounds

BusinessRe: How To Open A Domiciliary Account In Nigeria by mubaraqqq(f): 11:30am On Nov 11, 2011
A domiciliary account is a foreign currency dominated account. All Nigerian banks offer services in domiciliary accounts, and opening an account is fairly easy. Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) opens more domiciliary accounts than any other bank in Nigeria. To open a domiciliary account with GTB, follow the instructions below.

WHY SHOULD A NIGERIAN HAVE A DOMICILIARY ACCOUNT?

A domiciliary account makes it easier to transfer money to your loved ones at home. You simply instruct your bank to transfer the desired amount of money to another account within the bank or to an account at another bank.

http://lindaikeji..com/2011/09/five-boys-gang-rape-female-student-of.html

My whole weekend messed up. I saw a video that has messed with my head. A rape video. One hour of five boys taking turns on a girl. So heartbreaking to watch! One woman I showed it to today cried for three hours straight, it's one of the worst things I've ever seen in my life

A female student was gang raped by five boys in Abia State University. This incident happened Tuesday August 16th , 2011. These boys raped this girl, recorded it, passed it round their friends, who then passed it round ABSU campus.

And do you know what her offense was, why this girl was raped? She supposedly insulted one of the boys, that was all.

In the rape video, which lasts for over an hour, the girl cried her eyes out and tried to fight them off in the first few minutes, after a while they subdued her; by slapping her, rough handling her, threatening to kill her and having rough sex with her. After a while she gave in and instead of fighting, she started pleading, and after her pleas fell on deaf ears, she begged them to kill her that she couldn’t take the pain anymore. These boys laughed at her, made fun of her and told her that if she didn't co-operate, they would keep her in the room and continue raping her for two days.

Please continue to read this horrid story ,

Then she starts mentioning names, saying ‘What did I ever do to you’, (they spoke in English and Igbo language) she mentioned at least two names.

And in between, you will hear her scream out in pain as one guy stands up and another penetrates her, and all the while, these boys are laughing.

In the video, you can clearly see the girl’s face; the boys faces you really can’t see clearly, but they talk a lot and one of them said he’s a 4th year law student, another one said he’s an IT student, names were mentioned, these boys can be fished out.

This girl is someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s friend, and God’s creation. You cannot do this to another human being and get away with it.

I have the video, one hour of it on my laptop, and 10 minutes of it on my phone, but the rape was more than an hour, she went through this ordeal for several hours. Uploading this video online is not an option, but I want people who can do something about this to see it.

These boys can’t get away with this. Please if there’s any Women Rights Group, police, lawyers, journalists, who can take this up, please contact me; I will bring the video to you, wherever you are or send via email.

Meanwhile, a friend and I contacted one of the aides of the Governor of Abia State today, and he told us categorically that the Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, has seen the video and plans to take it up on Monday Sept 19th. I’m in touch with them – let’s see what they do about this.

And whoever you rapists are; you don’t mess with God’s creation. The God I serve will never let you get away with this. HE is coming after you! Just watch! You bastard animals!

At 5 a.m. Friday morning, a swat team bashed open a suspect's door and within seconds he was being put in handcuffs. As police began a systematic search of his apartment, 29-year-old Joel Uzodinma was being led away in handcuffs denying everything.

“It’s a misunderstanding - it'll come out whatever the situation is,” said Uzodinma.

Yet within seconds, the detectives, using their own tiny credit card scanner and computers, identify a stack of stolen credit cards and then find 30 $500 Visa gift cards allegedly fraudulently encoded activated using stolen cards.

Sergeant Aubrey Thompson, who runs the Prince George’ County police unit which investigates such crime, says it’s become a huge business.

“It's a big deal it affects one out of 6 people have been victims of credit card fraud,” Thompson said.

Already considering the raid and arrest a success, the team moved next to a jaguar believed to be Uzodinma's. And that is where the police hit pay dirt.

Two more computers a gun and the scanner allegedly used to steal credit card info.

The team also found neat alphabetized lists of names and addresses they believe to be past or potential victims of identity theft.

As for Uzodinma he faces a long list of charges, potentially federal and since he's already on probation following an armed robbery conviction. It’s likely his freedom and credit have run out.

I swear Nigerians kill me. They will jump up and down for the things that does not benefit their lives. You will not see them doing something about the kidnapping in Anambra, or Nepa, or the state of roads killing people like roaches. Is gay people they want to talk about.

The same churches( moralists) are the ones killing Nigerians. Pastors owning mansion and islands and private Jets. Pastors canoodling with the same corrupt leaders that are killing us. pastors taking money from people that are already poor and dying claiming they will perform miracles.

These moralists ( Church goers ) attacking the gay people are going to these same church. The pastors are worse than the GAY people, because they have no soul.

TV/MoviesRe: "BLACK GOLD" New Nollywood Hit By Jeta Amata by mubaraqqq(f): 7:37pm On Nov 19, 2010
I absolutely agree with you . Furthermore, why are we giving Billy Zane work, is he suppose to bring credibility. The guy cannot find work in the U.S since the mummy, his TV show just got canceled. He is probably getting paid more than what he will in America. Just like they bring those played out/has been musician Ja rule and pay them more money than they will ever get in the United States. Just because you put white people in the movie, does not mean it brings credibility.

The bottom line is that the movie should speak for it self, good story line, good actors, and amazing cinematography.

Litmus:
Would be more pleased with the production value if not for shivering from cold because i was sweating with embarrassment and my shirt got soaked.  There was an awful lot of Nigger and coon moments in that clip which eventually led me to wonder if the CIA or some such external influence assisted behind the scene in either a financial or moral capacity.

Coon moments = Oyibos as good guys and saviors, blacks as helpless or raving lunatics with bulging eyes and quivering lips.  I was in dread, that at any moment, a  black person with white lips and bulging eyes, might go down on one knee and cry, 'Mameee, the sun shines east, the sun shines west'

Anyway, the clip suggests a real effort but i would have looked more forward to  the Movie if it had been about  the exploitation of large concerns such as Shell, or the exploitation of African fishing waters by European and Asian fleets, or about Bakassi.

Wouldn't it be great if someone made a film about Bakassi, the European complicity, our easy capitulation, people made foreigners in their own land and then an uprising by the Delta rebels against Cameroon and their French masters.

Oh another thing, shouldn't we be trying to develop a Nigerian signature? I mean, if the clip is a reflection of the aspiration of Nigerian film makers then they are aiming for a sort of Hollywood identity.
PoliticsRe: Power Supply: I Won’t Make Empty Promises To Nigerians -jonathan by mubaraqqq(f): 10:07pm On Oct 18, 2010
I really do not understand why Nigerians make excuses for ineptness and lack of results. Look am not here to bash Nigeria this and that. My point is if Jonathan cared so much about the people he would have done everything in his power to show some sort of progress.

Am not saying solve the light crises in 6months. But please don't tell me government cannot do something in 6 months. People are given 3 months trial at their job and fired if they show no results or progress, or if they lack leadership. So don't tell me with all the money and resources at his hand, he cannot take on one issue and make a big impact in six months. These were the same people that kept on saying Yaruada needed more time after 3 years.

In 6 months
Make an example of kidnappers
Make an example of the bankers
Have roads Cleaned
Start the process of installing taps in communities
Start talking about teachers getting paid

And please don't tell me this man needs time, he was vice president for almost 4years. OK , so you don't want to take on issues. what has he done about crises that have come up under his watch.

Yes the kids kidnapped were saved but we heard nothing about the kidnappers, yes that is the kind of leadership we want. Oh, a leader that was warned about the bombing and yet nothing was done. What about the JOS crises, yes Jonathan visited JOS, and what have we heard ever since then?

What has been done about the families who lost their loved ones?
What has been done about the people who lost their houses and stores ?
Why is there no solution being talked about and put forth?

Please spare me "the nothing can be done in 6 months." Like I said before enough talking, if he likes let him write a book on Face book or cry me a river on face book. what is my business? Am not mad at people getting paid on Nairaland to promote GEJ, just let me know how I can join in the fun.

even if you add the 5 months we ran on "auto-pilot" without a president, its still not been 1 yr.Any exaggeration of the truth becomes a lie.I understand its by far easier to pull down than build up but pls lets work with facts.
Forgive me, my history is not wat it should be,but do u all know any Nigerian leader dead or living that impacted the nation in 5 months of his coming to power.Facts and figures please.
You are right I don't know of any Nigerian leader that has accomplished anything in 5 months. I actually don't know of any Nigerian leaders that have accomplished much during their presidency, case in point Yaradua, OBJ.

Maybe it has not been a year, although it feels like a year to me. My point is there has been many opportunities for him to step as a leader and unite the nation. Like I said in my other posts Jos, the flood, even this bombing, he keeps on changing his story every second. This man does not inspire confidence.

So it has not been a year, maybe 6months. There are many things he can do in 6 months. The right leadership could have fixed one of those major federal roads in 6 months. And please don't tell me money is tied up and all that because i bet the first thing they got control of when he came into power was the budget.

Am not trying to be negative, am just saying am tired of talk, talk, talk.

its been a year since this man took over from yaradura. please tell me what he has done in a year, if he wanted people to take him seriously he should have accomplished something in a year. Even the disasters that happened under his watch flood, Jos, what leadership has he taken to fix those. There are so many little things he could have done, but he was lining his pocket and getting ready his presidential campaign.

So I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Is not about being negative, is about Enough talking, do something already, show us you care by doing something. Stop talking and show it.

And am jealous because Nigeria still has a long way to go before this can happen.

Like must people have said it starts with Leadership. The Chilean Government led and the citizens responded.
