CrimeTurkish Military Says MIT Shipped Weapons To Al-qaeda by mustymatic(op): 7:57pm On Mar 14, 2015
Secret official documents about the searching
of three trucks belonging to Turkey's national
intelligence service (MIT) have been leaked
online, once again corroborating suspicions
that Ankara has not been playing a clean
game in Syria. According to the authenticated
documents, the trucks were found to be
transporting missiles, mortars and anti-
aircraft ammunition. The Gendarmerie General
Command, which authored the reports,
alleged, "The trucks were carrying weapons
and supplies to the al-Qaeda terror
organization.” But Turkish readers could not
see the documents in the news bulletins and
newspapers that shared them, because the
government immediately obtained a court
injunction banning all reporting about the
affair.
When President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was
prime minister, he had said, “You cannot
stop the MIT truck . You cannot search it.
You don’t have the authority. These trucks
were taking humanitarian assistance to
Turkmens.”
Since then, Erdogan and his hand-picked new
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu have
repeated at every opportunity that the trucks
were carrying assistance to Turkmens. Public
prosecutor Aziz Takci, who had ordered the
trucks to be searched, was removed from his
post and 13 soldiers involved in the search
were taken to court on charges of espionage.
Their indictments call for prison terms of up
to 20 years.
In scores of documents leaked by a group of
hackers, the Gendarmerie Command notes
that rocket warheads were found in the
trucks' cargo.
According to the documents that circulated
on the Internet before the ban came into
effect, this was the summary of the incident:
On Jan. 19, 2014, after receiving a tip
that three trucks were carrying weapons
and explosives to al-Qaeda in Syria, the
Adana Provincial Gendarmerie Command
obtained search warrants.
The Adana prosecutor called for the
search and seizure of all evidence.
Security forces stopped the trucks at the
Ceyhan toll gates, where MIT personnel
tried to prevent the search.
While the trucks were being escorted to
Seyhan Gendarmerie Command for an
extensive search, MIT personnel
accompanying the trucks in an Audi
vehicle blocked the road to stop the
trucks. When MIT personnel seized the
keys from the trucks' ignitions, an
altercation ensued. MIT personnel
instructed the truck drivers to pretend
their trucks had malfunctioned and
committed physical violence against
gendarmerie personnel.
The search was carried out and
videotaped despite the efforts of the
governor and MIT personnel to prevent
it.
Six metallic containers were found in the
three trucks. In the first container, 25-30
missiles or rockets and 10-15 crates
loaded with ammunition were found. In
the second container, 20-25 missiles or
rockets, 20-25 crates of mortar
ammunition and Douchka anti-aircraft
ammunition in five or six sacks were
discovered. The boxes had markings in
the Cyrillic alphabet.
It was noted that the MIT personnel
swore at the prosecutor and denigrated
the gendarmerie soldiers doing the
search, saying, "Look at those idiots.
They are looking for ammunition with
picks and shovels. Let someone who
knows do it. Trucks are full of bombs
that might explode.”
The governor of Adana, Huseyin Avni
Cos, arrived at the scene and declared,
“The trucks are moving with the prime
minister’s orders” and vowed not to let
them be interfered with no matter what.
With a letter of guarantee sent by the
regional director of MIT, co-signed by
the governor, the trucks were handed
back to MIT.
Driver Murat Kislakci said in his
deposition, “This cargo was loaded into
our trucks from a foreign airplane at
Ankara Esenboga Airport. We are taking
them to Reyhanli [on the Syrian border].
Two men [MIT personnel] in the Audi are
accompanying us. At Reyhanli, we hand
over the trucks to two people in the
Audi. They check us into a hotel. The
trucks move to cross the border. We
carried similar loads several times
before. We were working for the state. In
Ankara, we were leaving our trucks at an
MIT location. They used to tell us to
come back at 7 a.m. I know the cargo
belongs to MIT. We were at ease; this
was an affair of state. This was the first
time we collected cargo from the airport
and for the first time we were allowed to
stand by our trucks during the loading."
After accusations of espionage by the
government and pro-government media,
the chief of general staff ordered the
military prosecutor to investigate,. On
July 21, the military prosecutor declared
the operation was not espionage. The
same prosecutor said this incident was a
military affair and should be investigated
not by the public prosecutor, but the
military. The civilian court did not retract
its decision.
The government cover-up
Though the scandal is tearing the country
apart, the government opted for its favorite
tactic of covering it up. A court in Adana
banned written, visual and Internet media
outlets from any reporting and commenting
on the stopping of the trucks and the search.
All online content about the incident has been
deleted.
The court case against the 13 gendarmerie
elements accused of espionage has also been
controversial. The public prosecutor, who in
his indictment said the accused were
involved in a plot to have Turkey tried at the
International Criminal Court, veered off
course. Without citing any evidence, the
indictment charged that there was collusion
between the Syrian government, al-Qaeda
and the Islamic State (IS). The prosecutor
deviated from the case at hand and charged
that the killing by IS of three people at Nigde
last year was actually carried out by the
Syrian state.
At the moment, a total blackout prevails over
revelations, which are bound to have serious
international repercussions.

PoliticsOpinion: Is Jonathan’s 'wife' Also The First Lady? by mustymatic(op): 10:40pm On Mar 11, 2015
Things have truly fallen apart in our country. It
was a graceful and timely exit for Chinua Achebe,
because nothing benumbs a writer as much as
living to see a piece of fictional writing turn full
circle into a nightmarish reality. Time tested
institutions beginning from worship centres to
traditional institutions, the media and the military
have lost their sense of pride. It is obvious that
the new slogan in government is to win at all
costs or break it all up. It is a game that only
bullies play.
So, Reuben Abati, President Jones’ official
mouthpiece, has found his voice. He has been
working behind the scenes while his boss runs
roughshod over the political landscape like a
canine unleashed on rioters. Now that Abati has
found his voice finally, he wants a debate. Any
wary observer would want to know what has
happened in the presidency to warrant a volte
face from the 2011-era when his principal, like a
Grade D student, would only debate if he had
advanced copy of the questions to be asked.
Has President Jones graduated honours from the
Abati School of oratory or has the government
performed so well that it is now ready to give
account of itself? The answer is none of the
above. Just as the Port Harcourt Degrees of
some people are being called into question, the
composition of any panel that is comfortable to
the presidency should be suspect to any curious
observer. Who is likely to make the panel of
interviewers - those who are called in to massage
the ego of failure or the makers of the damaging
documentaries aired on AIT and NTA? In normal
climes, the National Broadcasting Commission,
NBC would have called the two stations to order
on these broadcasts, but NBC as an organ of
government meant to safeguard us from verbal
and visual assault is caught napping.
One shudders to imagine what the Abati who was
Chairman of the Guardian newspaper group would
have written about the political shenanigans of
his bosses in office. It is incredible how the
aphrodisiac of power gradually corrodes the moral
fabric of people in the corridors of power. In
Abati’s Yoruba land, the adage is - Oyinbo muti,
oti npa kuku - the colonial overlord takes the
alcohol but it’s the cook that is inebriated.
NTA and AIT are not the only media organisations
that have compromised the basic tenets of
fairness in journalism, the papers that published
the odious advertisements from Digbolugi Ayo
Fayose are as guilty. The Nigerian Press Council,
like the NBC sees nothing wrong. UK’s OFCOM
now wants NTA signals yanked off their airwaves.
This may look like a small price to pay for the
success of a failed government at the polls, its
effects are however very deep. It means that our
hardworking colleagues in that station may not
get the needed training that would propel them to
higher heights in the global media industry. It
may also mean not getting the needed equipment
for seamless transmission.
It is not just the media that has taken a hit. The
military, a nation’s last bastion has taken more
than a hit, so much so that it now rents crowds
to protest at supposed ‘opposition’ media
houses. While every citizen worth his passport
applauds the supreme sacrifice that our soldiers
pay to keep us one, not many would forget how
its current leadership lied over the Chibok kidnap,
or how it shamelessly explained tactical
manoeuvring of its badly kitted troops in battle. If
a vote of confidence were held in the army of its
top hierarchy, they would score so low, even
committing hara-kiri would not wash away their
shame. Little wonder nations with weapons have
shied away from selling to us leaving us to order
de-commissioned arms in the fight against terror.
When the army allowed itself to be drawn into
politics in the infamous Buhari certificate saga, it
may have thought it was denigrating a
presidential aspirant - no. In fact, it has
denigrated a revered institution. The military
works by gaining access to training and facilities
outside its immediate sphere of influence - tell me
which military institution wants to work with an
army that openly admits that an ‘illiterate’
became a general and head of state in its army.
The military may have ridiculed Buhari as it set
out to do, but it has denigrated a hallowed
institution in the eyes of peers across the globe.
The office of the first lady may not be gazetted
by the constitution, it is a lofty one. The criterion
is being married to the president and every
woman covets that position. From Victoria
Gowon, it has been hallowed. However, King
Nebu’s sheppopotamus has denigrated it so much
Buhari has promised not to give it serious
attention if elected. The pronouncements from
President Jones’ wife are anything but dainty.
From wresting microphones from elected officials
to verbally mobilising lynch-mobs against
opposition - this first wife, to quote Soyinka
knows nothing about being a lady.

HealthHow Coconut Water Helps Weight Loss, Others by mustymatic(op): 10:10pm On Mar 09, 2015
Coconut Water is the nutritious clear
liquid inside the coconut fruit which is
packed with vitamins and minerals. There
is usually more water in a young coconut,
since the water is replaced by the white
coconut flesh as it matures. Therefore, for
drinking purposes, coconuts are harvested
off the trees when they are still young and
green. Later, the outer green husk is
removed and the coconuts are wrapped in
plastic to keep the moisture.
A nutritionist and traditional medicine
practitioner, Dr Allison
Martin says the fat content in coconut
water is extremely low, so generous
quantities can be consumed without the
fear of immediately packing on the
pounds. It also suppresses the appetite
and makes you feel full because of its rich
nature.
“For those with acne or other blemishes
on the surface of the skin, topical
application of coconut water can go a
great distance as it has the ability to
clear up and subsequently tone the skin.
It also moisturizes the skin from within if
ingested orally and eliminates large
amounts of oil,” Martin said.
This may explain why products such as
facial creams, shampoos, conditioners
and lotions that contain traces of coconut
extract are more effective.
Next time you overdo it and drink more
than your belly can handle, consume
coconut water to settle your stomach. It
will also replace those essential
electrolytes that exit the body if you
experience bouts of frequent urination and
vomiting.
If you constantly encounter difficulty
during the digestion process, coconut
water may provide a source of relief.
Because of its high concentration of fiber,
it aids in the prevention of indigestion and
reduces the occurrence of acid reflux.
Again, the ingredients in coconut water
are way more effective at hydrating the
human body than those of sports and
energy drinks.
During rigorous exercise or extended
periods of physical activity, the human
body loses mineral-rich fluids. However,
coconut water serves as an excellent
replacement medium with 294 mg of
potassium and 5 mg of natural sugar per
glass, unlike your favorite sports drink
that only contains half of the potassium
content and five times the amount of
processed sugar. In addition, the sodium
count is only 25 mg, which is relatively
low compared to the 41 and 20 mg found
in sports drinks and energy drinks
respectively.
In many instances, a disproportionate
level of electrolytes can result in high
blood pressure. Because coconut water
contains an adequate supply of each, it
can be used as a balancing mechanism.
In some instances, it is recommended
that coconut water be consumed at the
start of each day to foster the balance of
these electrolytes
Unlike any other beverage on the market,
coconut water contains five essential
electrolytes that are present in the human
body. These include: calcium, magnesium,
phosphorous, potassium and sodium.
Because of its unique composition,
coconut water can be enjoyed by
individuals with varying medical
conditions.
Since it is isotonic to human plasma,
coconut water can be used in extreme
emergencies to quickly rehydrate the
human body if administered intravenously.
It is not uncommon for the drink to be
used in poorer, third-world countries to
save human lives.
Coconut water can be enjoyed as a
stand-alone beverage or combined with
another liquid product. There is no hard
and fast rule regarding the amount that
should be consumed on a daily basis, but
experts strongly suggest that you consider
maintaining an active lifestyle if
consuming large amounts of coconut
water since each eight ounce serving is
accompanied by 45 to 60 calories.
