Hamachi: It's almost tempting to say lack of education or opportunities to make a decent living, but that would be me condoning their actions because both situations are still an issue in Nigeria.
Scamming in Nigeria is a byproduct of a judgemental society.
Scammers are nothing but greedy people who are trying to live up to a false image. They don't use the money to survive, they use it to live a pretend life. Nigeria has a big problem of marginalization and discrimination when it comes to social status. If you don't have this car or that house then you're a failure. Of course no one says this to your face, but you'll feel it based on how they treat you. You feel it from friends, family and even from a complete stranger.
He(the society) who holds the ladder is as bad as the thief(scammers).
The framing of this question is unfair to Nigerians as a whole, and that’s because of the word “culture”. Scamming Nigerians are the exception, not the rule. There is as much a culture of scamming in Nigeria as there is a culture of let’s say, xenophobia in South Africa, or a culture of homicide in the US. Scammers have inhabited the earth since the dawn of time. Nigerian scammers probably revolutionised the process but it is hardly a malaise deserving of cultural attribution.
That said, I will reiterate what others have said that the scamming epidemic in Nigeria ( which is actually in serious decline since the turn of the 21st century) is merely a symptom of some other far more debilitating disease - corruption.
Corruption in Nigeria goes far beyond the everyday definition you know which barely covers bribery and dishonest gain. It goes far beyond that to the realm of what Professor Pius Adesanmi aptly describes as an “ontological unfairness” of the Nigerian space which describes the ubiquitous brand of corruption that makes it inconceivable to live totally via an honest wage, or to totally be bereft of any corrupt act in your daily life. It is an almost impossible scenario, and a society like this will always have people in significant numbers who will latch on to any corrupt fad and explore it to the furthest frontiers. This is what makes Nigeria’s brand of scam look like it is a culture. It is not.
People do not train their children to be scammers. If they did, that is a culture. Scam artistes, save their brash show of wealth, are still very much inconsequential in general moral coding of the society. If it was otherwise, it will be a culture.
But it must be said that the abject leadership ineptitude and corruption in high places is slowly eating away the moral fabric of the society. There is gradually an erosion of consequences for corruption, mostly because the ruling class are neck-deep in it. When the trees were still the playground of the squirrels, if you made sudden wealth, people (your parents especially) will ask questions. That is no longer the case.
Parents now even tacitly encourage their wards to get rich by all means. Churches and places of worship which are the conscience of the society blatantly compete for wealth to the point of active engagement in ponzi schemes.
In the final analysis, the upcoming generation are left with the wrong incentives to respond to, which makes it harder to blame them, which exercabates the and widens the diameter of the vicious corruption circle.
The malaise is dangerously getting close to the notorious toga of culture. It remains to be seen if the slide can be arrested. Nice analysis. Can you cite this paper so I can read more? |

CuriousStudent: Modern man can never accept he is a failure. They must always accuse women of something. It is either feminism or modernism or women or something. Or even a goat. They accuse women of playing victim yet they are the ones always pointing their scurvy fingers at women. They blame women for stealing their jobs, blame women for low birth rate, blame women for crimes( that it is because of women men venture into crimes),blame women for low marriage rate or divorce. Blame women for immorality I believe if rain refuses to fall, women will be blamed.
There is one thing about blaming women and constantly looking for what to accuse women of ( masked as attempting to make women take accountability),it is generally from economic stunted men.
No matter what campaign a low value man ( for eg heartofcity12, fahvvy, zonefree, strongAlpmale, reminderz, luminouz, capslocked, raalsalghul and other economic stunted men) launches on woman,it will never make them rich or increase their value.
The funny thing about these low lives is that the way they lampoon women you will assume that thousands of women are knocking on their doors and begging them to marry them. Men that in real life endure rejections from women are now suddenly acting like kings online.
When you are tired you will invest your obsession with women time on things that will leave a legacy.
It is what it is, you can't defend or talk your way into being high value. Sadly You try to sound smart but you sound like someone who doesn’t know the state of things in the world currently and that we are in a moral and cultural decline in society. You gave up yourself as being not only f00lish but low value. High value is knowledge not even material wealth. |

viodemus: Verified dunce ---- free me from your fool*shness. kpai with it alone.
People get ready made 360 plan about una matter, constantly updating and collecting infos.
The small light weight sophisticated toys around can do trip hazards and surprise your tribe and your masters. Then the reinforcements will flow in rapidly. Una statics go en masse, before una arab help go show.
Igbos have some real non igbo relatives in the south south; we don't do gum body with all, but we also have friendly tribes in the south south, middle belt, and even the north.
Some igbos are praying for you islamics to be fool*sh enough, so that there will be no limit to our retaliation on you the slaves first. It will accelerate the break up, that way the fraudulent tribalist don't rule us too long. The fraudulent one better fix the equality in the NA immediately, or he will be delusional when he will loose the little string of respect he has. I love your people… you have resilient spirits but are naturally not so intelligent and philosophical. I have one of them her name starts with “Chi” as that’s common and despite all her resilience she ends up getting Dicktroyed by me |
Politics › Re: Informant Leads Soldiers To Invade Bunkering Depot In Akwa Ibom by mutantninja: 9:10am On May 18, 2023 |
viodemus: Full time aloof. head in the a$$ parolee.
In summary, there are many ways you can look at it.
one way is: if all out war breaks out, maybe in the first three months, say 2 to 4 million igbos kpai, like e money dem, .maybe me too, anybody can get it; then the world powers begin to pick sides, if igbo allies increase their flow of toys and add a little sophistication of weapons, things will tilt to balance, until the stronger and more tactical people win. Meanwhile, in that tilting to balance phase, the kind pay back and barrage of missiles una go collect ehn. mouth no go fit talk. Na maximum and rapid damage, Before una allies go dey say is time to increase their supplies, at least over 6 to 8 million of una go dun kpai. The idea of having many boots on the ground against a population that don't feel comfortable with it, for weeks na wash, having a multitude of islamics tribalist sw and their leader region with arabic islamics inscription, na wash. It will force the sham forces to kpai many, no one to trust, which will create separation and avoidance, so that their movements and positions will be clear. if na guns, both modern locally made and imported no be problem. Movements can be mined, both land and sea. The air plucking machines, can be ramped up.
It is easy to see that, the winner will be who the world powers support. That is why igbos need to be the most disciplined in Africa and maybe the world. Igbos should keep updating sensible foreign allies on the enemies plan.
You m-u- m- u s, are aloof basking in your old assisted glory from the world powers then. Also some of those minorities wey una use get hope the last time, fit no ride with una. All the igbos have to do is be defensive in the first few months, then the tilt will start, some igbos being strategically set to be pumping high flying toys to the islamics sw, humans, buildings, economy, means of feeding, etc, just dey torch everything, while some focus on their leader region. Then defend against the aggressors in between.
bro, is easy to predict the movie. Even a child can analyze this. I just described a basic scenario. The tribal hijackers of the Nigerian forces are not a super power that will be hard to destroy. There will be no limit to the losses they receive. What they can bring to the table is not insurmountable. in the first six or so months, there will be balance of power, and massive wreckage on all sides. Igbos have not really built anything yet, so will probably suffer massive human life losses, but their enemies will also suffer massive human and infrastructure losses. And then it will just be a long term war, say the next 10 to 50 years before diplomacy really kicks in. After that, Igbos will never again be led by or associated with ethnic cleansers and selfish resources criminals. I appreciate the effort you took to drop this emotional analysis. But sadly, emotion doesn’t win wars… it creates more weakness. After the civil war, if they didn’t become so emotional they would’ve started development in their home soil not Lagos or other south western states… no tribe really genuinely loves them and in war tribes and communities naturally gravitate to the stronger side… in a real war scenario they’ll be decimated really fast before international support starts pouring in and the local bank accounts of their elites will be frozen… they’ll die like flies… innocent children and beautiful women will be wasted for nothing… they’re just too small a tribe to engage in a full scale war against the north and the west… will they clamor for support from the SouthSouth? The south south can never trust them , not in this lifetime….. the solution? They should stop being emotional and build… asking for secessi0n when you haven’t built anything is suicide. They owe the government their life not the other way around. The wise ones amongst (entrepreneurs and business moguls) them are helping build a better ONE Nigeria, the f••ls who don’t know history are looking for war.. funny how emotional your people are.. will they remain this way forever ? Lol I pray the new generation wakes up. |

It doesn't add up that a man with a gun threatened your life and you point fingers at him, insult him and slap him. What's more life threatening than slapping a very calm policeman?
In the US, Seun's body would have been riddled bullets.
The policeman must get compensation through civil litigation after the criminal case instituted by the State sends Seun to prison.
