Phyde: The truth is that everybody is confused. We don't know what to do again. Stay indoors will lead to mass hunger. Easing lockdown will still lead to mass virus spread and our health officials will be overwhelmed rejecting patients without covid cause of fear. Our health officials have families too who depend on them. Some are breadwinners. The only solution am still thinking is Stay indoor with mass palliatives from the government. All the recovered stolen funds should be channel to the streets for food. Suspend all road infrastructures for now. Foods should be the urgent matter now if they are planning another lockdown. All these shall pass Oga no economy in the world can sustain a lockdown indefinitely. Why is US easing up despite their numbers being the highest in the world, because they are tired. Millions are losing their jobs, bankruptcy, poverty rate all will increase and this has an indirect relationship to even the populace health. At the end the lockdown will have a negative effect which UNICEF highlighted in the article. Africa is even worse,we just copied and pasted what the Europeans were doing without paying attention to societal differences. Look at the Swedish model that is looking viable, they had no lockdown but found ways to mitigate the virus. The point is they should have been a logical approach to find a buffer. Mitigate the virus spread but at same time make sure that the populace can still earn, feed, seek healthcare etc....WHO predicted that malaria,TB,HIV etc will kill more than twice of what it kills in Africa because of the direct and indirect effect of the lockdown. Why?...because health workers are not longer in the hospitals, private clinics are closed, NGO have run short of funding, Poverty rate increases and the common man won't be able to get treatment, drug, surgery etc for his common ailment etc etc...look at the bigger picture. Do you know how many that had to stop cancer treatment, postpone surgeries because of this lockdown |

martineverest: u are the only rightful thinking somebody here...both organisations got ulterior motives. so which ulterior motive do UNICEF have by saying lockdown will make many suffer in Africa which is quite obvious because our society is very well different from that of the European. Moreover the western world is already suffering due to the lockdown measures not even to talk about Africa that is more impoverished |

GavelSlam: You are talking about promising and we are talking about present danger.
Tell me what other disease takes out this number of victims as it is in the UK presently? In the US flu kills between 50,000-80,000 every year. Mind you deaths have generally dropped and try and study the statistics or data on covid death.Have you gone to see how many cancer deaths have happened within this period and other related deaths. For the Covid deaths lets look at some stats. Sudies showed in the UK that more than 25% of people that died were diabetic. More than 85% of the dead in Italy, Spain, US etc are people over 70+ with other underlying ailments or immuno- compromised systems. With the average age of deaths in the US, Italy was about 80/81 years. It is general knowledge that kids don't easily get affected and when they test positive they hardly fall sick, studies have been done to know exactly why...why do you think more black americans are dying because of their poor socio-economic indexes which translates to poorer health. The Black American Society have more obese , diabetic, hypertensive individuals per capita...If you have time go and check stats on who and who dies and you will find out hardly you see any healthy young individual dying. Cancer, diabetes, obesity etc makes one more vulnerable, their cases normally ends up being severe. If you doubt me go and do proper research on detailed analysis of covid deaths in countries taking proper data Covid is a little bit exaggerated, if you do the analysis it is not the way they make it seem. The mortality rate now is even said to be below 1% . when media put the microscope on it because it is novel the reaction you see is just obvious. But look at the data, the figures and numbers and why it is not the way they make it look. Millions have recovered and are recovering within 2-3 weeks |

Coming back to your statement, many love ones die of Malaria, TB, Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension, etc and how is this different if a loved one dies from corona...have people not being dying, are people not still dying. How is this different from others that have been dying?...How?...funny enough more still die from other ailments. Jeromejnr: Those things others are dying from, are they viral?
Which can be more easily prevented?
What about the overwhelming of hospitals for people that have other diseases?
You guys are something else.
Like I said not all should be leaders. Do you know statistics have shown that more people will die from Diabetes, HIV,Malaria etc in Africa because of the lockdown and diversion of attention by covid. Do you know many people with other illnesses don't normally go to hospitals anymore because most teaching hospitals don't attend to patients like that and private hospitals are close. Do you know the indirect effect that has?...A report yesterday says Malaria which kills more than 400,000 every year might quadruple in Africa because of indirect cause of the lockdown and distraction of corona. Also this is same for HIV which kills more than 400,000 last year in Africa. Mind you TB kills 1.5 million every year world wide, check other stats from other ailments... And Yes HIV is viral, flu which kills more than 600, 000 worldwide every year is viral, etc. These are viral infections. Check the numbers and you will ask aren't we over panicking. All what I claimed can be checked and validated online if you care. My point is millions are dying and are still dying from several things. Check what these other ailments and viral infections have killed within this 5 month period and what covid has killed...and the fear is because of the exaggerated panic from covid more will die from other unrelated ailments due to the indirect cause of the panic like lockdown and inaccessibility of drugs and health centres unlike before |

But in Nigeria, na scam!
The one true person I know that died from the virus in Nigeria is Abba kyari (Mind you, I'm not disputing that he's the only one that has died from it). All these other politicians are just deceiving themselves.
If you have any fever, flu, cough etc and you mistakenly cross path with NCDC, they will tag you a corona patient.

Predstan: 100% correct boss.
I know the USA is not doing good but still, they have the highest number of tests in the world. I was at the testing centre a week ago and i can tell you, its a drive through centre. Anyone can go in and do the test. Currently, America has close to 7 million tested samples with close to 1.5million cases.
If any country tests as much as the USA, they will have as many cases as the USA. Radical testing will unveil more cases of the virus. Taking the Uk as an example, The Uk hits 100k daily testing on the first of May, what happened to the cases, an increased number of confirmed patients, and an increased number of death tolls. I implore you to go check out France.
Now going back to Africa, Senegal, Ghana and South Africa including Rwanda were able to carry out radical testing that is relative to their population, yet the confirmed cases haven't so increased compared to the rates it has in the European countries.
I will implore you to base your analysis on the number of tests and repeated tests carried out in these countries, you will realize what I'm trying to say. Europe as a continent with only 700million people have the highest number of deaths officially recorded than any other continent.
Trump is a case but we can't underrate the efforts they have put against this virus because of one Clown. Do try and read this https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/indepth/opinion/problem-predicting-coronavirus-apocalypse-africa-200505103847843.html |

rkarang: Sir, many factors may account for this relatively low confirmed cases and death toll.
First off, how quick were they to respond to this outbreak? In answer to this question, South Africa responded quickly. How aggressive is their testing and other containment measures? South Africa responded with even a mobile testing kit, in less than 3 weeks or so they already had 67 testing centres (sincerely speaking Nigeria was having less than 11 testing centres then-Africa’s most populated country). In terms of lockdown, South Africa was extremely strict in this regard.
And what’s the impact of all these? Is that you don’t allow people who have contracted the virus to keep spreading it. That’s being proactive
Time will come Nigeria Government might just be overwhelmed with the control of a horrible major outbreak that might be looming ahead...
President Trump has been bragging lately that America has the largest testing capacity than any other country in the world, a critical analyst asks at what time did you achieve this? South Korea achieve theirs at the beginning of the outbreak-that’s being proactive
There’s no magic anywhere, if you respond late you’re giving people the chance to spread the virus...
He has successfully turned himself a physician overnight. Prescribing drugs such as the hydroxide chlorine to suggesting of injection of disinfectant into human body. This is not the great United States we know... United States we know set the pace for others to follow... the whole world look up to United States... They have highly intelligent experts
Some countries are handling it much more better than others, some are lying with figures, etc.
