LMAO, I know the world is coming to an end when I see a post like this How you know upfront you are going to cry just makes the whole thing look fake ![]() Sha, I would recommend white chalk, aka in my language "ndom". Good luck and enjoy! |
in a nutshell, scripting languages are interpreted languages. The alternative would be compiled languages, which is what most "development (I am still a little iffy on what you mean by that ))" languages fall under. If I understand what you mean by "development language", then I would say, technically, any language you use for development, be it html, javascript, java, jsp, php, asp, etc, qualifies as such. However, based on your question above, I would perhaps, if I may, rephrase it as, "What is the difference b/w front-end and back-end languages", but of course I could be wrong as I am not you ![]() I hope this helps. |
Now that we are done demeaning our beautiful and lovely women, how about a post on " How Not To Get A Husband In Nigeria If You Live Abroad" ![]() Come on guys, we shouldn't stoop so low. The problem exists on both sides. Let the post(s) begin ![]() |
perhaps there are not registrants in the UK area. Sorry about that. Perhaps you could get someone in, say, Nigeria to help with the project? Thanks to how the internet works, one technically doesn't have to be physically located where you are to get the job done. Regardless, good luck with your search! |
some of u shd just chill ja re - wedding websites r simply the 21st century version of the wedding album. The big advantage over albums of course is that as long as u pay ur bills or the site doesn't get hacked into, it will last longer than an album |
funke, there r tons of webmasters who may be able to get the job done for you at www.webmastersofafrica.com . Just select the "find a webmaster tab" ![]() Good luck! |
In the end, they are providing jobs for web developers, so it's all good ![]() |
There r also others at www.webmastersofafrica.com ![]() |
By popular demand, WOA is now open to application developers. Though the site is called WOA, it will now serve all programmers. So spread the word! On the webmaster side, many registered members have already scored contracts via the site and WOA is only a month old. Get in while you can. WOA is fast becoming the site du jour with respect to where clients are visiting in search of someone for their next programming project. I have added a list of programming languages on the "become a webmaster" form. If there are others I have omitted, let me know and I will add them ASAP. www.webmastersofafrica.com - won't stop 'cause we don't even know how to stop ![]() |

all these reasons for being "scared" are the reason y most of us, to oyibo's delighest delight, will remain in their countries, working menial jobs and dying of premature heart attacks. What if there are 2 armed robbers per household? what if there are ofala shrines on every street? what if there is no light/water? no b our country? weren't these things there b4 we left? as i said, generally spking, it is those who just left the place (having been nowhere else in their lives) who voice this pessimistic opinion. Another problem is, again generally spking, those who "hv seen the light" abroad are typically worse off than those who are there and hv never left the country, and guess what? Those back at home know this. Na our country. If we no make am correct, na who go do am? |
It is not a scam. Same style even exists in the hotel industry. Such "no fly" or "no stay" days are called "blackout days". In general, when trying to take advantage of a deal, you should b ready to fly/drive/stay not by your schedule but theirs. For example, I doubt your miles wd b honored on say, "high season" dates of dec 8 - jan 25 or the summer season. On the other hand, I bet there would b tons of seats in february when everyone must have returned from the xmas hols. I am sure that if you looked at the fine print of your miles package, it was stated there (and most likely you had to "initial here, there and there" )Either way, don't let oyibo discourage you from accumulating/using your miles. If you do, then they have won. Same applies with respect to rebates ![]() I hope this helps. |
to hopefully bring this thread to a close , I think "scared" should be substituted with "reluctant". Also, when you say "going back", is it temporarily (as in vacation) or permanently (as in never ever to leave again)? I personally am not scared to go back to my homeland. Sure, naija has its vices, but all in all, its better (not amenities- or facilities-wise) from a "peace of mind" standpoint.I wd however say I am reluctant to go back "permanently". As for "temporarily, I would go 2ce or 3ce a year if I could afford it If u r like me, u can slip in and out unnoticed (wear kaftan, don't utter a single word in english), take public transportation, etc) and some pple may even swear u never crossed river niger.many of the reasons for my reluctance have been stated above. My main reason is akin to a footballer who having played at the top flight for years is faced with sudden retirement. Sure, the money is there and the ideas to perhaps start a new career is there also. In th end, the question is asked "what am i going to do now?". Here I am, being "programmed" for years to wake up at 5am, sit in traffic for 2 hrs (one-way), get stressed out at work and corporate america, get home to numerous missed calls, spending "quality time" with pikin and madam and going to bed at midnight (no "siesta", no house-help). Here I am, with 3 out of every 2 (no exageration ) envelopes in my mailbox being a bill or marketing material. Now imagine doing this for 20 years plus. Meanwhile your kids become more and more americanized (your fault if u don't take them back home at least once every 2 years ) and you're faced with the prospects of returning alone. U get the picture? What r u going to do in a place where for the most part, people are at your beck and call, you're not working, no car note, no house note, no property taxes, no sitting in traffic, etc. U cd die of heart attack at the slowness of it all.Back to the issue at hand, I think its more a reluctance and not being scared. To end it all, I think it is very sad when people who came from naija, knowing how it is, are the scared ones when on the other hand, there r people like me who were born here, and yet yearn more for home than them. I think such people (who often forget their culture "I don't understand the language anymore or eat fufu" upon landing at their destination) deserve a big "shame" ![]() |
In a nutshell, "Air Forces" LOL |
I always laff when people ask for "positive criticism". It's like we hv fallen for oyibo mentality of the day which dictates that people shdnt b made to feel bad for doing bad stuff, "Political Correctness" for short. Did someone or some tv/radio station air something on the issue? Is it being taught in schools? When I was growing up, if I did something bad, I was told so. I took it in stride and learnt from it. So far, so good. I hv not yet been psychologically scarred by it ![]() Back to the issue at hand, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I am assuming that based on the work, this is your first (or at least one of your first) web projects. Only you hv the answer to that. Regardless, if you intend winning over customers, you should think 2ce about your design. Thanks to the "openness" of the internet, you can either view the source of a site you like, copy it and modify as necessary or buy/download from numerous templates. This isn't a "bash" or an "insult" but an attempt to say it like it is. Hopefully you will learn from it. Put urself in another person's shoes - if u were told of this site and how great it is, wd u sign up for their services based on the site as it exists presently? therein lies ur review. I hope this helps. |
There are many webmasters who may be willing to take you under their wings. For more information visit www.webmastersofafrica.com |
I assume its an image in which case u just surround the image tag with an anchor tag: <a><img></a> If its flash, use the object/embed tags. For more information, contact www.webmastersofafrica.com |
xdos, This is a long shot but perhaps the version of flash u hv on ur IE is different from that of the flash version u r trying to view. What version of flash do you hv on ur IE? I think the later versions of flash u try to view have a sniffer that makes u download the latest version in order to view their content, but not all developers include that. Again, this is a long shot. It could be something else. I hope this helps sha. I blv there is one of us who is organizing a seminar there in a wk or so (granted it's in flex, but he works for the guys who make flash ). Perhaps you could attend, ask him this question and get a response live and direct ![]() I have posted the seminar at http://webmastersofafrica.com/webmasters-of-africa-events/ |
I separate my code (not limited to PHP) from HTML in one of 2 ways: 1) use of includes (e.g. require_once()): <?php require_once('header.php'); ?> <table> <tr> <td> Hello Nairaland!! </td> </tr> </table> <?php require_once('footer.php'); ?> 2) beginning my code tabbed over once from the line and my HTML tabbed over 2ce from the line. In other words, take PHP for example: <?php $uri = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; //to obtain what comes after www.nairaland.com in address bar above if(strchr($uri, "topic=35738" { //does the uri contain the string, "topic=35738"??> <table> <tr> <td> Hello Nairaland!! </td> </tr> </table> <?php } else { ?> <table> <tr> <td> Hello Nigeriaworld!! </td> </tr> </table> <?php }//if ?> Of course, for #2, I could hv printed out the strings without using tables. I just wanted to illustrate indentation ![]() I hope this helps |
kobesosimi, u r the forgetting the quote where he said he wasn't doing it for the money. When i hrd that, i said to myself, "Yeah right, y not play for free then?" ![]() |
not in my opinion - america doesn't give anything out for free. b4 they made the deal, they did their research. Expect one or more of the following: - a massive flooding of tv/radio/print media with advertisements - a beckham la galaxy shirt to go for at least $70 (without his name, with his name cd top $80) - sold out stadia wherever he goes - beckham in movies - the lure of the MLS for other euro-players do they stand to lose the money? as in any other biz, sure, but something tells me they pulled off a major coup with this deal. Just my 2 cents anyways. |
I believe it is now official: He has signed with Los Angeles Galaxy for $250million over 5 yrs. Package includes: - Salary ($10million a year) - Endorsements - Part ownership of the team Granted I am not a huge fan of american soccer (it was funny how beckham in an interview was saying "soccer" as opposed to "football" - sounded so hypocritical, but I guess that is what money does to you LOL) and I probably won't watch it just because bucks (am sorry, becks ) is now here, I say the US has pulled off a major coup in bringing him over.I predict others following suit, as opposed to going to the middle east. The MLS is one step closer to gaining its "street cred" and I must say kudos to them. Rumor even has it that Ronaldo (who previously turned down $120million over 10 yrs), Figo and Zidane will soon follow. We go c. |
In addition to what has been said above - don't fly solo - learn from your fellow peers, especially those who have been in the game for more than a couple of years, Seeing that you are in the lagos area, there are many of them registered at www.webmastersofafrica.com - check it out ![]() Good luck! |
there r tons of "web hosters" on www.webmastersofafrica.com - click on "find a webmaster" ![]() |
colly, rather than have them come to you, you can also go to them ![]() visit www.webmastersofafrica.com, click on "find a webmaster", perform a search (hopefully, webmasters in your area are registered) and click away. You've got nothing to lose - it's free ![]() |
by "doesn't get back to the feedback", do u mean it doesnt take u to that page upon successful mail send? if so, the following may help: 1) Check the page (unless u r using php_self) in the action attribute of ur form tag 2) don't just call the mail function, put some conditionals around it (if(mail) "mail sent" else "problem sending" . this will help with debuggingAlso in general, try to avoid (unless u r just doing this here to cut on typing) naming variables 1, 2, 3, 4, Use meaningful names. Chances r that if you come back to ur code 6 months from now, it will look like gibberish, even to u as the author. I hope this helps |
I think he just hood-winked us (aka 419 ) into driving traffic to his site/pumping up his ad impressions for ad revenue purposes LOL |
u shd b able to adjust the dpi settings. hv u checked the manual? if it didn't come with one, I wd suggest either searching the HP site for it and/or googling. I am sure there is someone out there who has shared such information with the world. 'hope this helps. |
