Lord knows I wish the dude well. More importantly though, I wish it goes beyond the certification. It is one thing to get certified. It is another to apply this certification on either a job or a personal venture. In some countries, such a kid would have been picked up by some corporation and given a scholarship or sent to a school for talented kids where his talent would be groomed. Let's see what the future holds for this kid. |
If u all ask me, I firmly believe there is more to this than meets the eye. The burning of the police station was just the perfect excuse the government needed to ban them. were they wrong to burn down the station? sure. should they have obeyed the law? sure. Was the govt perhaps a little too harsh? maybe. Having said that, my hunch is that there is more to this than we are privy to. I am just getting a funny feeling in my tummy ![]() |
as with all things naija, letz hope that those buses will be properly maintained, especially after Duke leaves office. It is one thing to buy, and another to maintain. I draw my observations from the one-time AKTC. They set the standard at the time for state transportation but where is it now? as far as okada is concerned, again, dangerous or not, it is my choice to use them. Based on the info I got this evening (on ground ), the dudes had a whole year to comply and refused. They were even offered an opportunity to pay quarterly, yet they refused. The worst of all is that they burnt down a police station. Based on this info, I am in support of the ban, however the pple will suffer. Okada goes to places taxis (or a bus that size) won't. Okada can get you from point A to B quicker. Rather than demonize these guys, I say we educate them. I am sure they can be made to drive a little better only if there are *enforcable* laws. I believe part of the money (again, based on what my sources told me this evening ) they were being charged was to go for protective gear. Even in the states, motorcycles are regarded as dangerous. Consequently, the authorities have imposed so many rules on this mode of transport that it is plain ridiculous, not to mention that the insurance for a motorbike is what I would personally consider suicidal. It's all about *enforcable* rules folks.Sure, I understand they are dangerous, but again I say, I prefer to use them and it is my choice, knowing fully all disadvantages. |
Being as unbiased as possible ![]() Not to say one site has more inventory over the other, if I were to go based on presentation, cars-ng would win any day. From graphics, to color combo to content, cars-ng has it down pat. Now, on another issue, I will delay reviewing further until I am able to find a car in Akwa Ibom State, on either site ![]() |
I said it before and I will say it again: There are many modes of land transporation there. Pick your own and leave the others to choose what they want. Don't use the government to promote your own personal agenda. If the pple (mind you I said "pple" and not government ) decide at some point they don't want okada, then they will vote with their pocket and choice. The power is, and should be, in the pple, not government. |
Okay make i try. Abi, how I go do? ![]() Delegation: E don tay wey I chop better soup and so as I just land naija like dis, kposa!! Na im my pple offer me 2 soups - Edikang Ikong complete with periwinkle, stock fish and kpomo; and Egusi complete with the most finger-licking Eja known to man. So I ask myself, wetin I go do? Should I delegate the choppings such that it is one soup to my left hand and to my right hand, or just to my right hand? More importantly, which of the 2 scenarios would be considered true delegation? ![]() Serialization: As I don delegate the situation finish, I say, oya make I chop the soup. As I dip the eba into the soup, na im the eba pick up meat, periwinkle and stockfish at the same time. Once I put the eba for my mouth, I am faced with a "serializable" dillema: Should I swallow it whole or should I separate the contents, eat them separately and swallow accordingly? In the end, all na food and all go enter my belle (i.e they are encoded in a structured way ), but the point is, at another place and time, the food will be recreated, either digested or as (sorry) excrement.Does this pass muster? ![]() |
LOL, All these young guys and gals. It is a good thing I am retired otherwise, all of you who claim you can sniff a guy out would be my first victims My advice to both sexes: Just be yourself and remember, you can go on a date without going on a "date", if you know what I mean ![]() To the ladies: Don't let any guy make you feel that if you don't give up your body, especially on the first date, that you are worthless or don't love/like him, or that you aren't with "the times". I understand that there are generational "skills" which one generation evolves over time, over another generation, but when it comes to the basics, those remain the same. I hope this helps. |
Granted it is getting tough to move around, such hardship shd motivate them to say "how can i take advantage of this situation, come up with an alternative form of transport and make money" as opposed to "how i go do now?" This is similar to when the communist countries were switching to free markets. Hyperinflation was rampant at first but as things began to settle down, calm returned and some of them are some of the most rapidly growing economies around. In the end, private enterprise, and not government, should take the lead in this approach. As a pple we need to end the disease of relying on government at every beck and call. |
Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. Such emails make me say to myself "the site is really making a difference". Most importantly, I hope the site is working for you in terms of drumming up biz for you. Once again, from the bottom of my heart, thanks ![]() |
Haba! No pounded yam analogy for delegates and serialization? I had just started salivating ![]() |
so r u advertising to the world that you are writing a "top notch, first class" assignment or are you soliciting for help? ![]() On a serious note, if this is an assignment, I won't help you write it but I can hopefully point you in the right direction: 1) What is structured programming 2) Software crisis - who says it is in crisis? Cite examples 3) Disadvantages/Advantages of software crisis 4) What benefits structured programming would offer (its features) 5) Examples of firms or codebases that use structured programming 6) drawbacks of structured programming 7) Conclusion I hope this helps. |
yeah kinzolic, LOL, up until I studied Yoruba in sec sch, the only Yoruba I knew came from the magazine when Dauda would be knacking. For whatever reason, all the women would utter is "O jigbi jigbi jigbi" RLMAO!! |
I for one am in favor of okada. Despite how "dangerous" or "noisy" they are, the fact is that given our road conditions, it is, to me, the most convenient way to get from point A to point B. Besides, how else do I, coming from abroad, get to experience first-hand the smells of Nigeria? ![]() On a more serious note, as Seun has stated, it's all about the revenue. Trust me, if they had volunteered to pay N20K as opposed to the sanctioned N13K and the station was torched, worse-case, only the alleged perpetrators would have been arrested. The govt is just using the torching as a convenient excuse. If okada is banned in uyo or calabar, trust me, those economies will grind to an already-in-place halt. I dare say at least 20 - 30% of the citizens of those cities put food on their family's tables via this means. And as Seun has said, those who claim they aid crime are ill-informed. If they are out of work, guess what they might venture into next? Yep, you got it ![]() If you deem them dangerous, then you owe it to yourself to take your (hopefully) hard-earned money and spend it on a more expensive, alternate mode of transportation instead of whining ![]() |
All I wanna know is what the heck happened to the "Dauda the Knacker" comic magazine series ![]() I used to remember "taking style" to buy it in my teens - walk up to the vendor, ask for a newspaper then whisper to him for the Dauda one (with my sun-shades on, making sure no one I knew was around) LOL. Ahhh, such memories ![]() |
LOL rookie, Technically, I am a programmer, but it seems that with respect to this forum, by definition, I am not. I am classified as either a "web designer" or "webmaster" (neither of which I am). So I have decided to take the title "developer" which embodies all. I figured I couldn't go wrong with that ![]() I hope this helps. |
Nah 4 play, I wouldn't go that far - I have been banned by him as a matter of fact ![]() I am not too sure on where Seun stands on certain things, but when it comes to capitalism, we agree at least 99% Besides, I wasn't aware of a rule that says we are not to agree with the moderator ![]() |
and to follow up on ur 2nd point Seun ,Such pple are under-achievers who, like the proverbial crab, want to drag back down, the crab(s) that are trying to leave the basket. |
Well said Seun, Why some pple hate those who have money (cos at the end of the day, take it or leave it, it's about hatred and envy), I have no idea. |
the site does state as one of its requirements, "1024 x 768 resolution" abi? Perhaps based on research (I assume), he knows that most of the visitors to the site won't be coming in on 800 x 600 ![]() Regardless, other than: 1) the fact that there is horizontal scroll when I view it on FF (yes, I know, another requirement is IE 4 and abv, but seriously, who uses IE anymore? ), and2) the site uses a lot of heavy, most likely unoptimized graphics (one I looked at clocked in at 94K) The site looks good and serves it purpose as a website for someone in the entertainment industry. kudos |
dapo4u, Now u enter into another realm, a realm into which I can not, and will not follow LOL ![]() |
mamajama, my 2nd paragraph totally answers your question. Let me retort, just in case ![]() "Giving back" should not be a right but a privilege, so to speak. No one should be obligated to give back. In other words, if I want to give back, let it be out of my own free-will and not because I am being made to feel guilty not to. Also, again based on my 2nd paragraph, when I do give (again, based on free-will and not because I "have to" , I will do so under the radar. I am the kind of person who doesn't like publicity/noteriety. Finally, I have "given back" whenever I deem fit, and again, not because I "had to".who will repair Nigeria if you and I don't go back and contribute in a positive manner? The Italians emigrated here en masse in the early 20th century. Who repaired the "old country" as they like to call it, and who is still repairing it today? The emigrants or those who were "left behind"? No offense, but you may be under the false impression that all those who emigrate from Nigeria to the diaspora will eventually move back. Not a reality at all. You may move back and perhaps your children, but I bet you that at some point, one whole generation will wake up one day and ask themselves, "y r we spending thousands of $$ to fly intercontinentally to build houses we will never live in, buy cars we will neve drive, etc?" At that pnt, you wd hv long been worm food ![]() I hope this explanation helps. |
First and foremost, and I know this will ruffle a few feathers here (and I intend to do so on purpose ), no one owes the community anything. It is their money and they should spend it as they wish. There is no shame in spending your own money and not wanting to share. They, and not others (most likely the communists and socialists amongst us - ha!) should determine how their money is spent. If they want to spend it all on themselves, so be it. If they want to, as a Nigerian, spend it on a charity in Dubai as opposed to Nigeria, so be it. Again, it is their money and they should be in control of it, period!Having said that, and I think a few of you have brought this to light, just because you haven't heard of what someone is doing, doesn't mean they aren't doing anything. I for one blv in what the Bible says about not blowing your own trumpet. I do a lot of things for which, even when it's insisted, I give a very stern warning for publicity to be 0%. I personally don't like unnecessary attention, that's all. Oya, let the "how dare you say they shdnt give back to their community" critics attack me. I am well armed ![]() |
I can't remember my first day on a plane, but I do remember my first day on an int'l-bound plane (as an adult. The reason I say this will be apparent shortly) ![]() I thought the protocol was different b/w domestic and int'l flights. It was October 1993. Still warm in Nigeria but without CNN, Internet, or any idea of what different temperatures felt like, etc, wetin man sabi? All I cared about was that I was going to represent naija to the fullest. I was wearing full-time agbada . I decided that, in order not to look dumb, I would do whatever the guy sitting next to me would do. In other words, if he didn't eat (not that I knew how to remove the food tray LOL), I would eat. If he didn't sleep, I would sleep. If he didn't use cutlery set, I wouldn't either. U shd hopefully b getting the picture here ![]() Anyways, I was so naive that it got to the point where if the guy didn't put food in his mouth, I wouldn't either LOL. I didn't exactly stare at him, but was looking at him via peripheral vision. About midway through the flight, I guess the guy noticed me cos he just blurted out "I take it this is your first on an int'l flight?" The question's timing cdnt hv been more perfect cos at that moment, all the tension eased and I was back to my normal self LOL Scene 2: Landing in europe, u cd imagine how cold and odd-looking I was, being the only one with basically cotton on, when others had heavy clothing/coats. I was rushing to the bathroom every 5 mins or so to splash hot water on my face. At first I cdnt even operate the tap. This was when the sensor thing was en vogue. So while trying to find out, I noticed that if I rubbed the tap a certain way, water would flow. You should have seen the look on my face when an oyibo came in and asked how to operate it. I told him proudly, "just rub the tap right here and the water will flow" LMAO. I was just telling myself "I don show oyibo today for im own country" LOL Upon arrival at my destination, I fell sick for the first 3 days. Anyways, I will not bore you further. Needless to say, my first int'l trip as an adult is a story I will tell my kids/grandkids, etc etc. |
Bossman, your comments just reminded me of something I forgot to mention up top, but which I seem to have drawn from what I hear is happening over there: For whatever reason (and I choose to blv in the reason that PHP's infrastructure is cheaper to acquire and learn than JAVA ), PHP has taken a strong foothold in Nigeria. When you combine that with the fact that all "webmasters" use PHP primarily and PHP is mostly identified with websites and not applications, everyone who wants something done there wants it in PHP. Same reason pretty much everyone in Nigeria wants flash on their website. They may not understand what it is or what it does, but by golly, since Okoro has it on his site, Ifeanyi wants it on his site too LOL. Finally, I still maintain that JAVA's learning curve is steeper than PHP's which is why most people are choosing the latter. I think I can speak confidently on this - I am a JSP developer and just put up my first PHP website as a side project ![]() Until more and more people start coding with other languages and the general public becomes more knowledgeable, I predict PHP will reign for a long time. Again remember, typically, what Okoro wants is what Ifeanyi will ultimately want. Why? because Ifeanyi doesn't want to look ignorant in the eyes of the would-be developer LOL |
I prefer developing websites in this order (descending): By Hand (aka notepad) > HomeSite > Dreamweaver > Frontpage. I say this based on my own experience. I have used all 4 products. Of course, others will beg to differ and I understand. In the end, I prefer knowing what is going on behind the scenes rather than relying on the IDE to do it for me (especially for those IDEs where you can just drag-and-drop). As far as your website is concerned, what did you develop it in? Dreamweaver or Frontpage? If so, in my opinion, I guess it is what I would expect from frontpage or dreamweaver. Does it accomplish its aim? sure, but as with all things, it could be better. I hope this helps. |
I am not a programmer and may not give an intelligible answer here. However, based on the discussions, I am compelled to jump in. You are free to label my comments here as stupid (or whatever adjective u deem fit) at any time ![]() PHP and JAVA can not be compared. The 2 have their place. Granted I have only one PHP website to show for it , I can say pretty comfortably that there are things JAVA does that PHP either can not do or doesn't do well. Scalability isn't the basis of my argument here. I am just talking in generalities. JAVA is more mature than PHP, thus it makes sense that it has functionality, libraries, etc that PHP can only for the moment dream of. We must all remember that PHP is at a stage where JAVA was when it was being compared to C and C++. Back then the latter tried to run the former into the ground, but its popularity only grew and now, it is hard to find any serious app that doesn't run based on one JAVA technology or the other. PHP is getting better by the day. It's only normal and natural. Let's not distract ourselves over a trivial issue like this and think of the more pertinent ones. Like how to get more and more of us back in Naija on the train so as to reduce massive unemployment, which in the end, leads to young folks getting involved in crime. Again, feel free to bash this post if u like ![]() |
naijafan, so I visited the site again, specifically the advertisement section and got a cold fusion error - http://cars-ng.com/advertise.cfm you might want to check it out. thanks, |
Good things don't, and shouldn't, come cheap. 'nuff said ![]() |
abbey, you might want to register your presence at www.webmastersofafrica.com - it is now open to app developers like yourself. so far, many registrants have been contacted for various projects. Don't be left out ![]() |
