alexis, well said, well said. |
nice, anytime. I try my best to help out where I can. Feel free to YIM me at anytime (udotot25). Later |
A buddy of mine seems to have a problem registering for an account here. He clicks on "register an account" but instead gets rerouted to this url: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?action=register - no registration form Has registration been disabled? If not, what's the correct URL to go to? If so, when will it be enabled again? Thanks |
nice, u kd hv easily googled for the info and gotten this website in response: https://www.google.com/adsense/?sourceid=aso&subid=ww-en-ha-adsense&medium=sem ![]() I personally hate reading instructions but must say that these were pretty straight-to-the-point. Enjoy!! |
smart, hopefully, this will qualify as "make you yarn better ja reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" :I like the grid layout and though I would probably go for a different color combo (to give it a more business-like look-and-feel), I like the design too. I just don't want to put a stamp of approval on it without seeing what is going to feature in the white portion(s) of the page(s). It is akin to having NAFDAC approve a malaria drug that is still being mixed in a crucible. If approved at this state, it is possible for the pharm company to not finish up with a high quality drug, the results being, that people cd potentially die and NAFDAC would end up losing its respect and influence. I look forward to viewing at least a working sample of the home page. Now, do u feel better? ![]() |
mimi83, As u can c, your paper is being written before your very koro koro eyes ![]() |
I think I have said this b4, but it is worth saying it again - during my last visit to naija in 2004, a cousin of mine bought phone credits via his phone. When I asked, he said the funds would be directly deducted from his account. So, to me, if it can work with phones, y not the internet? ![]() |
spking for myself, i am very, very for real ![]() Isn't it funny that she complains abuot "big gum" yet at the same time claims to b "bootylicious"? It doesn't make sense to me. So to put an end to this, I say let her show us what she's got. Now, b4 any of you get it twisted, I am not saying she should pose nude. A photo with her wearing something hugging would do. She doesn't even have to show us her face. Let her show us what she's got and we will be the judges. It's like those girls who wear the shortest of mini-skirts (obviously to grab attention) yet either complain that pple gawk at them or struggle to hide their privates when sitting in the midst of pple. Give me a break ![]() In the end, we just might convince her to keep it. In the end, it might just be a matter not of excess stored starch but of genetics. Eniola, we dey wait ![]() |
I hv said this b4 here, but will say it again (and again, to show how strongly I feel abt this ) - A Nigerian Online Payment Solution. Right now we are blacklisted from the likes of paypal et al. Just as is the case in the airline industry, until we hv our own, those guys won't give us the respect we deserve. They know that unfortunately we naijans wd rather boast of using oyibo products than develop one of ours, viewing theirs as superior and quickly distrusting our own products.Until we develop one for ourselves, they will keep on regarding us as mugus as we blindly go to the likes of egold et al to pay horrendous commissions for our online purchases. Here is the topic I have been thinking of almost on a daily basis: A Nigerian Online Payment Solution - standing up to PayPal. For all we know, they are behind such companies (but thatz another story ) |
i personally wd like 2 c at least a semi-working product b4 commenting. I will keep my comments to myself till then ![]() |
I don't blv u hv a big bum. Show it to us fisrt b4 i blv u. Remember - "big bum" is in the eye of the beholder ![]() |
you could also bookmark www.download.com as it has a lot of freeware and trialware that you may find useful. For more, visit www.webmastersofafrica.com |
xdos, ah, now i hv a better understanding. At first I thought it was for a site of yours ![]() Okay, what I would do (and this may not make sense given I am not in naija) is find out how much it will cost you to make the clip (equipment, etc) and then add at least 50% on top of that. As for putting it on their site, the actual code isn't involved so I will let you make that judgement, although I would personally say at least N1000 (again, I am not there, so this figure may be too much). That should do it. I hope this helps. |
it depends - how large is the clip? how many clips? how much traffic do u anticipate from such embedding(s)? You don't want to exceed your bandwidth allocation and end up paying cut-throat "overages". |
niceuzor, Sure, thatz what I am here for ![]() u may email me at webmaster@webmastersofafrica.com or YIM me at udotot25 I hope to "see" you soon. and don't forget to register at www.webmastersofafrica.com ![]() |
if i were there, this is what I would like to see: 1) a solution that is secure 2) a solution that involves direct access to my account (fake - use of a virtual number OR real) as opposed to going thru 3rd parties that end up charging a lot for commission (think egold, epayassist et al). Last time I was there, I had a cousin who reloaded his cell phone credit via the phone. He said the money was automatically deducted from his account. If it can be done in the phone industry, I would assume same could be done online. 3) a solution that accepts all major forms of payment. In other words, I don't have to leave my transaction cos I don't have, say, a scratch card 4) (and this may be like a v2.0 kind of thing ) making it accessible not only by Nigeria but other African nations as well, as I blv they too are in need of a similar solution. All in all, remember that you shouldn't leave any stone unturned, cos if u are thinking of this, others surely are. I hope this helps. Good luck 4) |
LOL, All that is going through my head is that Sunday School song we used to sing when I was a kid: The walls of Jericho fell down flat, The walls of Jericho fell down flat, When the Children of God, were praising the Lord, The walls of Jericho fell down flat LMAO Maybe, just maybe, most of the places where some of these "Churches" are located, are suffering infrastructural stress due to the fact that such structures weren't made to withstand the decibels emanating from such "Churches". Anyone wanna take me on, on this? ![]() |
Another tip is to avoid the "pump-and-dump" scheme. This is where someone/a group of pple "pump" up the value of a stock by talking about how great it is. Then once the price goes up to a level they deem high enough, they "dump" the stock by selling it off for big time gains. By the time an unsuspecting investor catches wind, the stock would hv plunged below wat they paid for it and this is normally followed by the "e pa mi o!" type lamentations. In general, buy and keep stock for the long-run. Don't try to be like the Joneses and expect massive returns overnight. Just thought I should add this to the mix ![]() |
keywords and freebies. Also, I wouldnt rule out pay-per-click. Finally, assuming you are found via a search engine, what does a user see when they go to the particular page? As has been noted here earlier, I think its best for us to c ur site first b4 we give other possible reasons. We await ![]() |
Thanks cabali, Just playing my part ![]() |
DBAs, you can register your presence at www.webmastersofafrica.com . You never know who might be there looking for someone to do the job ![]() |
naijafan, Next time, perhaps you could use http://webmastersofafrica.com/find-webmaster-of-africa/?nav=fm to find a developer near you . Developers are registering in large numbers. Hopefully, it is only a matter of time b4 WOA becomes the site du jour with respect to those who need a developer to get a jobe done ![]() |
andre5, I took this exam many yrs ago and got the certification. Not to discourge you though, it wasn't worth anything. I haven't used it till today (in terms of either finding me a job or applying what I learnt during the exams on the job). In fact, it is rumored that some companies will even weed out your application (this is in the US by the way) if they see you hv such certification. Y? cos they know for the most part pple cram to pass it. Those who know their stuff don't necessarily need an exam to stand out. I for one, know a DBA with over 20 yrs experience who has failed the MCDBA exam 3 times. Now you can't tell me he doesn't know jack about databases ![]() |
netzymes, All I would say is, for starters, to speed up the download of your home page (the most important page of your site), remove all photos from there and perhaps hv links. Then when the user clicks on the links, it takes them to the particular page with photos. Secondly, when on that page, rather than make the user click thru each individual image, hv a slideshow instead. Preferably, this slide show shd b in AJAX, so while the user is viewing, say, the first 3 images, AJAX is making a call for the next 3. At this point, if the user wants to view a particular image, they can then click on it and view a larger version in a popup. For a more detailed site review, visit http://webmastersofafrica.com/webmasters-of-africa-site-review/?nav=sr for more details. I hope this helps. |
MT, Another option would be the full version of Adobe Acrobat. It comes with a handy tool for editing PDF documents. Even if you scanned in a jpg, say, I think you could either convert to PDF for editing or edit the image as is. I have done it before, though in the distant past. I hope this helps. |
regaltopax, 2 sites I can recommend are: 1) http://www.alistapart.com 2) http://www.csszengarden.com/ 3) http://www.24hourhtmlcafe.com and by the way, my website address is: http://www.webmastersofafrica.com ![]() Good Luck! |
boraddo, Thanks for your input. I never had the "edit profile" thing in mind, but now I do . I will put it in V2.0 Once again, thanks for the input. For now, if there is anything you want added to the site (I hv rcvd 3 such requests from 3 different individuals for the exact same thing ), YIM me at udotot25 (faster and recommended) or email me at webmaster@webmastersofafrica.com and I will update it ASAP.The poll is indeed an external call. I will update the site to make sure it opens in a new window. That way, u still hv WOA open at all times. Once again, thanks for the input. If you register (I assume you have already ), I will let you and all registered members know when the "edit profile" feature is open for business.Once again, thanks for your compliments and input. The latter is well noted. |
Nice observation Afam, At first glance, that is what it would appear to be. However, the site is for Africans not only in Africa but in the diaspora. I know it may sound weird to find an African in, say, Solomon Islands, but hey, in this info/globalization age, you never know ![]() By the way, I noticed you are now an official webmaster of Africa. Thanks for registering. Hopefully others will follow suit and make WOA the one-stop search shop of and for African Webmasters, for their future projects. Thanks once again. We go YIM as usual later in the day ![]() |
boraddo, Alas, my website is up and running: www.webmastersofafrica.com . Sorry for the delay. I have been veeery busy at work lately. Check it out, register and let me know what you think. p.s.: Naijafan, E jo, no "Yapp" me o! ![]() |
