Lagos - Ikoyi Prisons School said on Monday that no fewer than 28 of its students would write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 2015, which commences on March 10. Mr Ayodele Obarewo, the School’s Principal said in Lagos that the inmates were adequately prepared for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)-organised examination. Obarewo said more inmates had shown interest in furthering their education, having gone through several reform programmes being offered in the facility. The principal said the rise in the number of students registered for this year's examination was encouraging. He said the figure had increased from the 14, who wrote the examination in 2014, to 28 this year. Obarewo said arrangements had been concluded for the commencement of the examination in the reformative centre, and that logistics for the smooth conduct of the all computer-based test, were intact. http://www.news24.com.ng/National/News/28-inmates-of-Ikoyi-prisons-to-sit-for-matriculation-exam-20150309 |

hadizadeezy:Take heart its just a game. A winner must emerge and your team have been punishing Arsenal steady for a long time, please let them rejoice now. Haba must you be beating them left right and center always |
paxonel:Are you saying being Christian means you live above sin or Rather as a church goer you cannot sin? |
CaptainAmerica1:I can see nothing in your statement but biased. To you whatever has to do with GEJ, GEJ must be wrong. It is not about your political lineage, it is about the truth or fact. Morocco has no influence whatsoever with the so called Sufi form of Muslims in Nigeria and secondly Boko Haram was formed by Muslims and Christians and Churches were their basic targets. Why should you people be deceiving people by saying Muslims are the worst hit by Boko Haram? How many mosque were destroyed by the sect, How many of the kidnapped school girls are Muslim? How many of the communities destroyed are mainly Muslim communities? No single mosque is totally destroyed by the sect, only 15 of the Chibok girls that were kidnapped are Muslims and most of the communities destroyed by the sects are Christian communities. Most northern leaders that are Muslims initially supported the sect see https://www.nairaland.com/2167921/why-troops-winning-war-against They only reason they gave to GEJ for not talking to him is an Islamic solidarity reason don't you know what Christians face in Morocco. You are talking about political gain is there no political gain when GMB went to Chatham house? or to you the political gain should be one sided. |
CaptainAmerica1:It is alright for Buhari to speak at Chatham house for political gain but for GEJ it is wrong you mean! What political gain would talking to a Moroccan monarch give in Nigeria. I am saying the islamic connection cited as a reason should be condemned by we Nigerians and not to play into the hands of divisive elements |
kastonkastrol:....and with this you want to go to heaven? more abuse expected, after all you can only give what you have |
Gbawe2:It is quite unfortunate the way some Nigerians think. That you do not like the president those not make anything against him to be right. Are you talking about a morocco that refuse to associate with the African continent during the Ebola crisis thereby refusing to host the nation's cup. Did you really read the post? How can you hail a man that refuse to speak to the president based on religious discrimination or religious affinity with an Islamic sect in nigeria. Are you encouraging religious discrimination too. instead of condemning the reason being given for not talking to the president, you are here justifying the very wrong that is causing problems "hatred" |
Cameroon honoured 38 soldiers on Friday killed in fighting with Boko Haram Islamists in recent months, with officials pledging the struggle against the militants will be won. Coffins of the troops who died in clashes in the country's far north were on display as their families and officials gathered to remember them. "The head of state, commander in chief, commemorates with great sadness the memory of these soldiers who died defending their country," Cameroon's Defence Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o said. "The war against Boko Haram, will be won," he said. Boko Haram has expanded its insurgency from Nigeria in recent months, attacking border areas of neighbouring countries including Cameroon. Cameroon deployed its army in the far north in August against the insurgents and over 60 of its soldiers have been killed since then. In recent months the west African nation has held a series of ceremonies to remember its fallen troops, killed during roughly 20 attacks that took place between December and February in a range of Cameroonian towns on the Nigerian border such as Fotokol and Kolofata. The youngest soldier was just 22 when he died. All the dead were awarded medals honouring them for bravery. Army officials claim that thousands of Boko Haram fighters have been killed, but it is impossible to independently verify the figures. https://www.modernghana.com/news/603073/67/cameroon-honours-38-soldiers-killed-in-boko-haram-.html

Troops have not carried out aerial bombardment of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau’s hideout because the sect is using the Chibok girls as shield, it was learnt yesterday. Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, on Wednesday visited Chad to seek clarifications on some issues and map out plans with multi-national force on what a source described as the final onslaught against Boko Haram. The military source, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent, said Shekau and some members of his Shura Committee – the sect’s highest policy making body - had been shuttling between Sambisa Forest and strategic locations, such as Gwoza and Bama. The Chadian President, Idris Deby said Shekau’s convoy was sighted in Dikwa on Tuesday. But the military source explained that Shekau has a strong base in Gwoza with a special armoured tank. The source said: “Troops have located what I may call Shekau’s bunker but they cannot strike because some of the Chibok girls are being used as shield by the leaders of Boko Haram. “We want to do a clinical job with limited damage because the whole world is awaiting the safe return of the Chibok girls. “ The ability of the troops to rescue some of the girls will earn more credit to the success of Nigerian military against the insurgents. “We are also being extremely careful to avoid any military assault which may force Shekau to turn against the Chibok girls and other hostages in Boko Haram’s camps in the Northeast. According to the source, intelligence report has indicated that recent bombings in Jos and other cities were borne out of anger against the military for reclaiming over 40 occupied territories and killing more than 300 insurgents.” Air Marshal Badeh on Wednesday met with the Chadian military hierarchy. A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “ The session was used to iron out alleged claims by Chadian military that Nigerian troops were frustrating its collaborating troops in the Northeast. “At the meeting, the Chadian military denied issuing such statement. Instead, it restated its commitment to collaboration with Nigeria to rout out the insurgents from the Northeast and the sub-region. “After ironing out the misgivings, the CDS and Chadian counterpart later mapped out plans with the multi-national force on the final onslaught against Boko Haram. “We are likely to see enhanced synergy between Nigerian troops and their Chadian counterparts in the next few days.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/boko-haram-using-chibok-girls-as-shekaus-shield/ |

TO boost the morale of Nigerian military personnel involved in the fight against insurgency, an international organization, Cry for Help, has commenced free medical treatment for soldiers and members of their families. The programme, according to organizers, will take a stretch of three months and would move to all military barracks in the country. Founder of Cry for Help, Vera Mensah, who spoke at the flag off of the medical mission at the Mambilla Barracks, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory stressed that over 2, 000 medical personnel were involved in the scheme with enough drugs for those in need of them. She said the scheme was in partnership with Good Health for All Nigerians Initiative. Her words: “We are in collaboration with Good Health for All Nigerians Initiative to carry out free medical treatment in all the barracks of Nigeria. As you can see, it is way beyond giving rice. It is free medical care. This is to guarantee some kind of free health for all. A nation of good health is a wealthy nation. All households have to be okay, whether you are a child, an adult or old, you have got to access it.” On the specific areas of intervention, she stressed: Our programme covers all aspects of care from general medicine, dentistry, optometry, checking of the eyes to ensuring that everything is alright, and if need be, there are free glasses. We have got nurses, lab scientists. We have also got doctors who would diagnose and prescribe whatever sort of drug a patient needs. “However, there is minor surgery that is going to be done at every barrack that we go to. Whatever surgery that can’t be done during this mission, will be referred to the hospital of everyone’s choice still free. The collaboration between both organizations is to ensure that we give free medical care to all.” The programme will take about three months, because we are going to be going round all the barracks. It is not something that we have to rush. We have more than 2000 specialists that will be working under this scheme. We are doing this because the need is there.” Secretary General, Cry for Help, Alfred Sanni, noted that the medical mission would take free medical services to the doorstep of military persons. He said: “Basically, we are going to the door steps of soldiers and family members so they benefit directly from the efforts that they put into their country.” Coordinator, Good health for All Nigerian Initiative, Hon Sandra Damian, stressed that the project was flagged off from barracks to encourage the Military in their current efforts in fighting terrorism. - http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/news/national-news/200467-agency-begins-free-medical-treatment-for-soldiers-families#sthash.5uj1Wy0g.dpuf |
Military operation to reclaim Bama, Gworza and other towns in the North east still under the control of Boko Haram insurgents have begun as the Nigerian Times has been reliably informed of a massive deployment of troops and military wares in that direction. The movement of the men and machinery which was noticed early Tuesday morning, Nigerian Times gathered had General Officer Commanding (GOCs) of military divisions going ahead of them. Military operations to rid the North East of insurgent groups have since heightened with a lot of success after they made a case and procured a six weeks postponement of the general elections. Nigeria Times had reported that more than 30 communities have so far been liberated from the terrorists. The list includes Bara, the Headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State and Gulag, the Headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Other locations also cleared in the course of the operation include, Shikah, Fikayel, Tetebah, Buza, Kamla and Bumsa. The troops have also recovered Monguno, Marte, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa, Baga among other big towns and communities. Other localities where troops have flushed out the terrorists in the operations preceding the entry to Baga include: Gajigana, Ngaze, Ngenzai, Marte Junction, Yoyo, Kekeno, Kukawa, Cross Kauwa, Kangarwa, Amirari Other cleared communities include Gabchari, Abba Jabari, Zuntur, Gajigana, Gajiram, Damakar, Kumaliwa, Bosso Wanti, Jeram and Kabrisungul. https://nigeriantimes.ng/news/breaking-military-operations-begin-in-bama-gworza-to-clear-insurgents/

CaptainAmerica1:Where is the correction? If the statement was quoted out of context according to you, what context should it have been quoted or what did he mean by the statement let '' the baboon and dogs be soaked in their blood"? The statement was made in 2011 and not 2015 that statement means nothing but an incitement to violence. As I said earlier in 2011 PDP hailed Jega , while the opposition accused him of aiding the rigging of the election and now 2015 PDP wants him to go while the opposition wants him to stay. It doesn't matter the reasons both parties are presenting, but what matters is the position of the law. The law gives room for a terminal leave of 3 months to his terminal date from office and this weapon was used on Prof. Iwu by this same president and if he decides to use it against prof. Jega so be it as long as it falls within the law. Prof Jega tenure expires in 23rd June meaning he can't go for terminal leave before 23rd March 2015. From 23rd March 2015 he can go for terminal leave and it would be legal |
CaptainAmerica1:Oh my beloved country. Politicians would not cease to amaze us, they have different rules for a particular type of issue, the rules that suit them is the rule that is ideal. Let's go back to memory lane. In 2007 the then INEC Chairman Prof. Iwu conducted an election that was said to be fraudulent by the opposition and collaborated by the then elected president, there was minimal or no violence. Prof. Iwu's tenure was to end on the 13th June 2010 and was forced by GEJ to embark on terminal leave on the 28th April 2010 and there was no noise at all. Then came prof. Jega on board and he conducted an election in 2011 that was said to be free and fair by all most all observers and the Government but was said to be rigged massively by the opposition, then came one of the worst election violence in Nigeria's history(520 people were killed in Kaduna and Niger state alone,22000 people were displaced, 157 churches and 46 mosques were burnt, 1435 houses were burnt.... http://thelawyerschronicle.com/nigerias-2011-elections-free-fair-and-credible/). note that the opposition led by GMB cried foul, also note the famous inciting statement of ''let the baboon and dogs be soaked in their blood'' and also note the personal attacks on the INEC chairman. -Today the president that claim INEC organized election was free and fair wants to force Jega on retirement. - Today the opposition that says the election organized by Jega in 2011 was massively rigged wants him to remain there. Prof. Iwu went for terminal leave it was not said to be illegal and so Prof. Jega can also go for terminal leave it would not be illegal too as long as it falls within the time frame. His tenure would expire on 23rd June 2015 meaning that he can go for terminal leave on the 23rd March and it won't be illegal. |
stonecoldcafe:Thanks for the correction. I intend writing oath. I would modify it. Thanks once again |
berem:Is the certificate issue really a propaganda? I don't think so. I think it is unlawful to lie on oath. The question is that he said or filled in the INEC form that his certificate is with the military, in which the military have denied and publish a letter from the then principal of the school in which Buhari used to enter the Army. I believe he has more than the minimum qualification but the question is did he lied on oath about the certificate custodian? |
How Russian Arms are Supporting Nigeria Fight Boko Haram – For the 2nd time in her checkered history, the involvement of Russia in Nigeria’s security difficulties has demonstrated essential in handling challenging situations. First was the 3 years civil war (1967-70) and at present, the supply of the right arms as well as ammunition that have assisted to change the tide of war from the Boko Haram terrorists within the north-eastern area of the country. Investigations have revealed that following the reluctance of America and the suspicious response of the West to Nigeria’s counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency efforts, federal government turned to the East for help. THISDAY was informed by sources within the presidency and security circle that the botched $15m arms deal, which exposed America’s hypocrisy, forced Nigeria to look for alternative sources of arms supply. According to one of the sources, the outcome of such strategic move is the acquisition of the right kinds of armoury that has helped to change the game against the terrorists with the recent liberation of many towns and communities from the stronghold of the insurgents. They noted in particular that the role of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAPS) Vehicles from South Africa and Russia was crucial in the recent liberation of Baga where terrorists’ mines proved ineffectual against the military onslaught. The top intelligence source commended the National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), for taking the bold initiative in the desperate efforts that brokered the deals with Russia, South Africa, and China, amongst others. “When the Americans refused to assist and we found out that they were playing games with us, citing human rights violation, several countries were willing to assist. You already know how Israel wanted to assist, and still do. Now Russia, China and some others have been cooperative. “This does not mean we have done away with our American and Western allies but our national security comes first and any useful assistance will suffice”, the source said. In the same vein, a security source said that the “game changing tactics deployed by the Federal government to boost the efforts of the military against the insurgents has been greatly enhanced by these new deals in both the Army and Air Force”. “Apart from the arsenal and equipment in the regular inventory of the military which were procured and put into action to combat the insurgents, some specialized and high grade weapons and equipment as well as tactics proved to be a game changer in the efforts of the military”, the source said. THISDAY was informed that the list of procurement of high grade military arsenal in the Nigeria Army includes the “T-72 Russian-made tanks deployed to support troops’ advance at all axis, RM 70 multiple rocket launchers, and Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAPS) vehicles from South Africa, Russia, Czech Republic. “For the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), we have the MI35 attack helicopters from Russia and associated weapons and accessories, Agusta 109 support helicopters, Super PUMA helicopters from France, F17 Bombers with precision guided munitions, and the ever present Alpha Jet bombers”. In addition, the source noted that special procedures were also designed to inflict maximum misery on the terrorists “such as the operations of Special Forces – used for specialised operations such as cut-off operations, town clearing, helicopter support operations”. “We also have specialised night helicopter operations that seriously degraded Boko Haram leadership, round the clock aerial surveillance by strategic surveillance platforms, which provides round the clock intelligence to ground troops before, during and after operations. “This is also followed up with specialized ground to air communications between surveillance platforms, aerial attack platforms and ground troops”. THISDAY had also reported how a change of battle plans, regional alliance, and especially the acquisition of the right weapons has helped to change the battle situation in the ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists. It noted that since the latest arrangements, the terrorists have lost strategic towns including Mongonu, Marte, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa and other surrounding communities, all thanks to the game changing weapons and arrangements. Accordingly, with the official confirmation of Baga’s liberation due to the game changing strategies, it’s a matter of days or a few weeks for the remaining frontiers in Borno State such as Bama, Sambisa and Gwoza to be recaptured. The source singled out two of the major game-changing factors that turned the tide of the battle to include the regional agreement with the countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission to destroy Boko Haram safe havens within their contiguous boundaries, as well as the stockpile of new sophisticated weapons like drones, battle tanks, attack helicopters and night vision technology. Actually, the source noted, major issue people are asking is that if we have not been able to deal with these issues in the last two to six years how can we resolve same now? According to the source, the answer is simple, adding, before now there was no agreement or cooperation with our neighbours; even the hot pursuit arrangement was not honoured but now they have all agreed. “The first thing is the sincerity and commitment of our neighbouring countries on the task of eliminating the terrorists”, the source said. Two, the source added, for the first time, the Nigerian military has stockpiled all armaments not brought in bits and pieces but some brought at once with bigger transport aircraft. The source said: “They brought some of these game changing tanks and armoured vehicles. The APCs, T-72 battle tanks, T55 armoured tanks with mine sweeping capabilities, which are used in Baga and currently in Sambisa and Gwoza; and the attack helicopters, especially the Cobra equipped with night vision capabilities have turned the tide against Boko Haram. “There are more use of drones but we don’t want to name all of them for security reasons because Americans that don’t want us to have these weapons may have a different motive. Look at when one of the drones was sighted in Adamawa, the US were said to be angry, asking how we were able to secure them”. “The beauty of it is that these drones are doing very well and has enhanced our capacity and battle success. We are now having more drones; China, Russia and other countries have been helping out in this regard. We mainly Surveillance drones that can convey real war situation, and can maneuver the terrorists. It’s actually these drones that helped to identify the terrorists’ camps”. In the same vein, THISDAY gathered from the military authorities, that readjustment at the tactical and operational levels also helped to transform the fortunes of the Nigerian military. One of the top senior officers informed THISDAY that the increasing involvement of the Generals in leading the battle has helped to instill confidence in the rest of the soldiers and junior officers. “Another point is that the senior officers who are increasingly leading the battle are now encouraging the soldiers to get involved. Before some of the Commanders used to be from the Colonel downwards but now you see Generals leading the charge from the battlefront. Like the battle that is going on now in different parts of Borno like Gwoza, Baga and so on are being commanded by the Generals. “Also the change of attitudes of the senior officers who have left their cozy offices into the battlefield has helped to boost the soldiers morale. This has actually ‘gingered’ the soldiers and discouraged those who wanted to desert, saying ‘if such generals could be on the battlefront that means nobody is just sending them to go and die. So this is one of the reasons we are winning the battle”, the source said. Also, a military source disclosed, there is intensive training and retraining of the troops in non-conventional warfare. Speaking further, the source explained that “the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency training being given to some of our forces are beginning to bear fruit in addition to arrival of more special forces to join the fight. “Boko Haram were more active before in the night but with the acquisition of night vision technology our troops have had the upper hand”. http://www.hopefornigeriaonline.com/how-russian-arms-are-supporting-nigeria-fight-boko-haram/

Do you know why our soldiers are becoming effective at rooting out the Boko Haram right at this moment? It is because those opposing their activities have backed down. People in the North are no longer seeing Boko Haram as freedom fighters. Most of us Muslims have disowned them. Anyone coming out to support them now will be called a traitor. We have classified them appropriately as terrorists. At the onset most of our elders kicked against calling them terrorists. So much have been lost that we all are in the frame of mind to accept any acts from the military to root them out. Formerly that was not the case. Hitherto, any act performed by the military was called genocide. Our leaders at the onset were erroneously in support of the Boko Haram, until they started to target the leaders themselves. What I expect us to be asking is this, have we learned our lessons from what our divisiveness did to us? My answer is NO. Why? Because, of the deafening silence in hailing our boys who from the onset put their lives on the line. I wonder where the genocide cry Professor Ango Abdullahi is right now. We all made mistakes trading blames though’’ – Hope For Nigeria. NO PLACE TO HIDE FOR BOKO HARAM AND THEIR SUPPORTERS. kolonigga:I don't get you. You mean the letter is authentic? What is in that letter that makes it look authentic? A letter with no letter head,no signature, no seal, no office address of the writer and of whom it is addressed to. If it is being smart as you said, a letter would not be written at all, they would have communicated through phone or arrange a meeting to discus it. |
asala1:It is purely an English word for the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being |
asala1:I did understand you, are you not the one that ask this question? The Christian God is a Hebrew God and has a name was called YHWH. The word God means something else from the beginning, why not just call Him YHWH instead of adopting God as His name So i have given you example of others that also use the universal principle of adoption as long as it is written in their language. So what do you think the word God not god mean? Now you are trying to divert to another thing entirely. You seem not to know the question you want to ask . |
Weah96:That is my choice and its cool. What about yours looking for an imaginary ladder to come out of obscurity or vacuum. Thanks and good day |
