As for my guy that did the fix,he advised me to wait till the raining season is over, then floor the compound so that the rain water will not be soaked in the soil and comes out inside the house.
Baba,
I'm sorry I've not shown up cos I've not had chance to speak with you or anyone on your site about my visit except on Nairaland which both of us agreed is not where I was engaged. I don't think it make any sense to show up in such site unannounced, with prior notification.
However, it's good to see that progress is being made. That's the ultimate!
Well done sir.
Should you still require my service, please kindly inform whoever is on site that I'll be visiting and also communicate purpose of my visit or probably give me the contact of the person to talk to so that I can firm up arrangement.
rotecch77: Yes o hajj, someone can testify to that here he is a member he wanted to do tiles importation colabo with me 2yrs ago ,you can believed when he get to the company I directed him to I'm Spain ,he couldn't belevied what the Oyimbo man told him, he called me immediately to verify and I let him know that the info talked true. Although there still European standard (the 1st pics fast shipping post is from me which is real Spanish standard
podosci: I have also read a research thesis which a conclusion that the strength of concrete increases considerably with the size of the couarse aggregrate and reaches a peack strength at course aggregrate size of 20mm but the strength starts to decsend with further increase in the size of the agregrate beyond 20mm. They gave a reason which stated that the larger the course aggregrate, the more void spaces are fromed in between the course aggregate and leads to further weakening of the concrete. Apart from a large water cement ratio reducing the srtength of the concrete, The permeability of concrete increases with an increase in water cement-ratio. Alot of factors affect the strength of concrete.
Very correct Podosci. In the research carried out at Unilag, the best strength of concrete is achieved when 35% of crushed granite fine is applied to the mix.
But CGF (stone dust) can completely replace sand in concrete mix. Check out what Air lastpage posted. If he didn't say it, no one would have noticed it and it came out fine.
Much later today or sometimes in the week, I intend showing a video of an all-CGF (stone dust) block that can never be broken when thrown from 10m height. Funny enough, the cost difference when compared with sand block is not twice the cost but the strength is double.
Still talking about fake standards in Nigeria. I bought toiletries at 45k per set (which should be a very good quality based on price paid) and I ended up with something that needed to be worked on; to be fixed before it work
N45k!! I just feel like why didn't I call Alan of Grohe and tell him "Hey buddy, I need something good for 60k, can you work with my budget?" I know they'll get me something fantastic for 70k without need to upgrade in 15 years. I could have talked to my guys at House Affairs, they'll give Milano fittings for a good price. This big guys want business.
Now, I paid 45k (which is more than average cost most people are paying) for a knockoff version of an original model in a sealed pack and somebody wants me to believe anything else that ever come from that market. The same market that supplied the frying tiles.
No now!! I dey work for this money.
Why people keep silent on issues like this still confuse me? Are we saying this things are non-issue?
AZUH: Wow I love this door ? How much is it ? Where can I get it at asaba ? Do you have warehouse at asaba ?
I can give you the contact. The guy is in Lagos. He's one of your own.
I don't think he runs a shop like that o. His doors are sold at the shipping warehouse in Lagos. Once he has something, he will just send message to his buyers. That's what he does.
lastpage: Braaabus! Where did you see the above happen!
Tiles getting burnt by hot oil from frying pan! Tell me you are just being funny?
Chai, dearis god o!
Lastpage!
As very untrue this may sound, it's the truth. The owner of the project is one of us here. I was equally shocked when I was told but who is to blame? The buyer? The seller? The importer? Or the government who choose not to control what get past its border? The manufacturer? The greedy businessman who ask for knockoffs to deceive unsuspecting home owners, builders and construction professionals?
When we argue some things here, I keep wondering why we can't tell ourself the truth. "Will I know the difference if I am the one buying it myself?" I've said it times without number that some contractors may not know they are been ripped off when they are less informed.
Take for instance the issue of sharp sand as explained earlier. There are different types of sharp sand and their cost varies. Will a client know the difference? NO! He can only rely on what he hear from Mr A or what he confirmed from Mr X.
I bought some original toilet fittings sometimes ago and unknown to us everything inside it were changed to a knockoff version and it was packed and handed over to us. We didn't know until when we installed and we were having issues. Will you have ever imagined paying triple market value for a product and getting a substandard fittings. This guys are good at what they do and so I've made a resolve to do my thing with verified businesses even if it comes at an extra cost.
I'm not the type of likes spending money on routine maintenance. If I can have a maintenance free build, I'll do my best to get it.
I no get money. I may not have integrity of the 99.9% here. But if it is taste, I know my class.
I won't come here to post what cannot be verified.
The country clay tiles used on my chateau was displayed on Home Depot website. It has a name and country of origin. I don't need to proof it. Just visit the site and visit the house.
You'll know the difference between Chinese knockoff stone tiles and real stone tiles.
New range of white doors (Turkey) shown to me just last week.
In a shipping company warehouse in Ajao estate. The same source for the Atlantic View supplies.
I can confirm its from Turkey. Well, it's not possible that it is first transferred to turkey from China o. But the Country of Shipping is clearly written "Turkey"
babalose: That's why I believe atimes it's better to bring your tiles from abroad to cast away any form of doubt in the quality of what you are buying especially if it's for personal use. So many Spanish tiles of the same product and manufacturer are cheaper in Nigeria than in Spain so it brings the question, which is original which is fake?
Just like doors. 90% of contemporary styled homes build their doors locally and not buy imported. Or buy from verified importers of original doors.
At least I can say that of Play-in-Architecture and some other leading contemporary designers.
My picks for K-024 are between 2.3m and 2.8m high doors which is totally strange to Nigeria building industry.
My picks for Atlantic View project are all Original Turkey Doors shipped in by a friend to the client.
Bros, I used to think this same way o until I entered the market myself.
Now, I don't buy Orile again. I buy from reputable tiles stores. I buy known brands.
I concur with your last comment baba. The trashy tiles are in the budget class like I clearly stated. I never present them as luxury tiles.
My mistake is putting them side by side with what you posted. Im sorry about that. But that's just the way I see it from here. The reason why I asked if you've seen them physically or online
FastShipping: I repeat those trashy Chinese tile you displayed are not sold for 3500 Naira per sq mt. Those trashy tiles on the floor are sold for 1500-1700 naira per sq mt. I have tons of tiles in my mail and phone being sold for 3000-3500 per sq mt that are ten times better than the trashy ones you claim are of same grade as the polished porcelain tiles I displayed. Stop it!
What is the name of the tiles you displayed sir? I agree that Argenta is fake.
When I grade tiles, it's not based on the cost. This explains the reason why some people install marbles and yet couldn't create an inspiring home.
FastShipping: Those trash don't cost 3500 Naira per square meter. They cost 1,700 per square meter. I have seen it all in the last one month. I have seen more than 80 tile samples in the last four weeks. I am versed in these things. In fact, I have tiles of 3,000 naira per square meter that are ten times better than those ones you displayed.
I suggest you check out Argenta website. Even with knockoff Pali, you won't get 3,500 from Orile.
Those trash of Chinese tiles you posted here are not in the same class as the porcelain polished tiles I posted. Are you kidding me? Do you think you are dealing with scum?
Those tiles I posted are 4000 naira per sqmt.
Maybe you didn't see them right. Below are better taken pictures of the tiles I posted. Now compare them to the Chinese trash you displayed.
That's why I asked did you see them physically?
If na by "Pali". Here is Pali for your delight. If it is by writing Spanish at the back, I'll show you Chinese tiles with Spanish written at the back.
FastShipping: Which one of these three would you go for?
I like the two white polished tiles. I like the grey one too but I have to change color of some things I already settled with to match my color theme. They are 24" by 24" tiles.
What do you think?
Have you seen this items physically? Or through whatsapp pic?
lastpage: Is there a possibility that the two mixes have different "curing rate" ...and we need to see the results for the standard 28days. If you can create time, it will be god to take the research further, for completeness
I am interested in these tests because l am a big fan of Stone Dust (did a four flats, one storey build recently that l did not use Sharp sand at all.... all concrete works were a mixture of Granite, Stone dust, adequate Cement and TAP Water ..... and the result was awesome, though the cost was prohibitive).
@Brabus: I am also interested in those ideas of yours. Bring it on pls.
Lastpage!
I'll do so and publish the result here. You've done well for yourself baba.
