CrimeWoman Reportedly Kills Her Husband With Pestle Over Side Chick In Ondo by NaijaCover(op): 5:04am On Jun 03, 2024
A Housewife, Omolara Oluwakemi, has been accused of killing her husband, Seidu Jamiu, over alleged infidelity in Ondo State.

It was gathered that Oluwakemi used a pestle to smash her husband’s head while he was asleep in their residence at Akungba Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

The couple had been living together for more than seven years with three children.

A family source who confirmed the incident to the Daily Trust said the suspect picked the pestle at the backyard of their bungalow to hit her husband on the head.

“There had been a misunderstanding between the couple over allegations of infidelity particularly against the man. His housewife had been accusing him of not being faithful in the marriage by keeping a ‘side chick,” the source said.

"Unfortunately, we learnt during the weekend that he had been killed by her wife. She was said to have used a pestle to smash him on the head. I was at the hospital and was moved to tears when I saw his corpse,” he added.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the murder on Sunday, said the victim's wife reported the incident at the police, claiming that unknown assailants killed her husband in the midnight of Saturday.

The PPRO said no arrest had been made over the incident.

“I can't confirm that the victim's wife killed him because it was the woman, the complainant of the incident, that reported the matter at police station. We have not made any arrest, but investigation has begun into the incident,” she added.

A Yet-To-Be-Specified Number Of People lost their lives when a trailer lost control and crushed two tricycles at Oba along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Sunday.

Our correspondent gathered that the fatal crash occurred at about 9 am and the victims were said to be on their way to attend a church service when the accident occurred.

Sources at the scene said the driver of the heavy-duty truck failed brakes, lost control and while trying to control the vehicle, eventually rammed into the two fully loaded tricycles, thereby pushing it and some of the occupants into a ditch.

Some of the victims were said to be run over by the truck as some victims were stick stuck by the tyres.

An eyewitness at the scene who simply gave her name as Amaka, said, “The accident occurred this morning as the revenue collectors stopped the tricycles for money, while this was going on, the oncoming truck which had already failed brakes rammed into the two tricycles, thereby pushed them into a nearby ditch.

While some of the victims fell into the ditch, others were run over by the truck. It was a terrible sight to behold. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to attend to the injured and retrieved the bodies of the victims. As of now, five individuals have been confirmed dead, while the search for any other potential casualties is ongoing.”

This was also corroborated by some gory videos already trending online showing some of the bodies of the victims littering the road, where a voice noted that the tricycles were hit in quick succession because they were driving close to each other.

As of the time of filing this report, a crowd had subsequently besieged the scene and gridlock took over the ever-busy road as people rushed to the accident scene while the affected vehicles were blocking a major part of the road.

Local authorities were seen investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and are working to determine the exact cause of the brake failure and the actions of the tax collectors that may have contributed to the tragic incident.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State, Adeoye Irelewuyi in a short statement, confirmed the accident.

He said, “Yes, there was a road traffic crash at Oba along the Onitsha -Owerri expressway earlier today. Details of the crash are still being gathered. Some youths in the town and others are allegedly protesting over the incident.”

One Terhide Garfa on Thursday allegedly committed suicide at Kanshio community, a suburb of Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State.

According to an Eyewitness, who simply gave his name as Nick, the deceased corpse was found at about 3:45 pm on Thursday, inside a transformer.

Nick, who is a resident of the area, said it remains a mystery, how late Garfa entered the fenced transformer.

Someone said he heard him saying that he wanted to speak with his mother or he would kill himself.

“But the person did not know if he was able to speak with his mother or not.

The next thing is that people saw his lifeless body close to the transformer,” the witness stated.

Reacting to the development, the Corporate Affairs Manager, Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JED, Adakole Elijah described the incident as strange.

Elijah said the transformer where the lifeless body of the man was found is fenced, and could not fathom the reason behind the deceased’s action.

He said, “We found it strange that a transformer that was fully fenced, somebody could enter into the place.

We don’t really know what happened, whether it was a case of suicide or attempted vandalism.

The pictorial evidence shows that the man forced himself into the transformer.

“JED has always warned people not to go close to it’s installations.”

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State Command, Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is on going to unravel the circumstances behind the man’s action.

A Driver hit and killed a female pedestrian along the Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra on Friday night, May 31, according to the state Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, Commander of the FRSC in Anambra, told newsmen in Awka on Saturday, June 1, that the driver fled the scene after the incident.

Irelewuyi said that the likely cause of the accident was speeding.

He said that the crash involved an unidentified driver of a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with no registration number, en route to Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

“According to eyewitness reports, the driver of the vehicle, who was on speed, rammed into a pedestrian female adult and zoomed off.

“FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene and took the victim to Toronto Mortuary after the doctor confirmed her death,” he said.

While condoling with the family of the dead, Irelewuyi cautioned motorists on speeding, especially during the rainy season. He urged them to ensure they keep to specified speed limits.
