The Gombe State Police Command has arrested five teenagers for their alleged involvement in the death of a man following an argument during a wedding ceremony in Jauro Ali village.

The suspects, identified as Jauro Babawuro (17), Yayaji Bello (16), Baffaji Adamu (16), Babangida Dotti (18), and Yaya Bapati (17), were apprehended after a report was made by Dotti Manu, the victim’s father, from Wuro Wandara village.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the incident occurred on December 21, 2024, around 10 p.m.

During the wedding ceremony, a disagreement between the suspects and the victim escalated, leading to the suspects attacking the victim with sticks.

“The victim’s father reported that on December 21, 2024, at about 2200 hrs, during a wedding ceremony, altercations ensued between his son and the suspects, resulting in the suspects using sticks to beat up the victim, who sustained internal injuries,” he said.

He disclosed that the victim was admitted to Kowa Clinic Tongo, where he received treatment but later passed away.

The victim’s body has been deposited at General Hospital Bajoga for an autopsy.

“The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” Abdullahi said.

The police also urged anyone with information about the crime to come forward.

“We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case, and we will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Abdullahi stated.

Abdullahi added that Gombe State Police Command is working to ensure that justice is served and that the community is protected from such violent crimes.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 30-Year-Old Man, Samuel Egbetokun for allegedly poisoning cows in the Alabata community of the Odeda Local Government Area of the State.

The command informed PUNCH Online on Friday that two out of the three cows that consumed the harmful substance died instantly before the cattle rearer could intervene.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola stated that the suspect had laced cassava with rat poison and tossed it to the cows while they were grazing.

It was gathered that the cattle rearer, Boji Sanni, initially did not realise that the cassava thrown by the suspect had been laced with harmful substances until the three cows began collapsing after consuming it.

The command said, “The incident came to light on January 16, 2025, when a 54-Year-Old Man, Idris Lawal, of Akingbasa Village, complained to the local police station.

“His cattle rearer, Boji Sanni, caught a man throwing cassava mixed with a substance suspected to be rat poison to his cattle while grazing on January 15, 2025.

“The rearer reported that before realising the cassava was laced with poison, some cows had consumed it. Consequently, two female cows died, and a third is undergoing treatment. The value of the dead cows is estimated at ₦1,500,000.”

Detectives from the Odeda Division, tasked with conducting a preliminary investigation, combed the area and recovered the poisoned cassava, which was secured as evidence, according to the police.

The suspect then reportedly confessed to the crime following his arrest.

“The Commissioner of Police has taken a personal interest in the case, particularly due to concerns about potential retaliation from herders or cattle rearers. He is warning others to refrain from such actions, emphasising that this case will serve as a deterrent,” Odutola said.

This marks the second incident involving residents and cattle rearers in the LG within a week.

PUNCH Online previously reported an incident in Apitipiti Village, where a farmer allegedly attacked a herdsman and injured one of his cattle.

An Ilorin High Court has sentenced a fake spiritualist, Odeyemi Hammed Oluwaseun, to a year imprisonment for internet fraud.

Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court, sitting in Ilorin, on Wednesday convicted and sentenced Oluwaseun, who was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a two-count charge that bordered on internet fraud, impersonation and obtaining by false pretences.

Count one of the charge reads, “That you, Odeyemi Hammed Oluwaseun, sometime in December, 2023 in Ilorin, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly induced one Bose to send $3200.00, worth of gift cards to you, with the impression that the same would be used to diabolically influence her ex-husband to return and marry her, while you pretended and represented yourself to be one Lord Hill, a female spiritualist with email account hillor674@gmail.com, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal Code.”

Count two read, “That you, Odeyemi Hammed Oluwaseun, between August, 2023 to September, 2023 in Ilorin within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly induced one Schneider Alina to send $4,500.00 worth of gift cards to you, with the impression that the same would be used to diabolically control her ex-boyfriend to return and marry her, while you represented yourself to be a female spiritualist with Instagram account _Visions_by_Tendo_12 and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal Code.”

Oluwaseun pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to him, following which prosecution counsel, Sesan Ola reviewed the facts of the case, tendered the convict’s extra-judicial statements and evidence, including the sum of $1,000 recovered from him and prayed the court to convict and sentence him as charged.

The trial judge, Justice Abdulgafar, convinced that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt, sentenced Oluwaseun to six months suspended jail term on each of the two counts, and ordered that the sum of $1,000, iPhone 15 and 2008 Toyota Camry car recovered from him be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Oluwaseun, who hails from Oyo State, defrauded his victims on the internet by posing as an American-based female spiritualist with powers to cause jilted women and estranged wives to regain the affection of their men.
