Nkechi48:Hi Nkechi, I understand why you asked this question. Some people believe that if you apply for a 1 year program, you may not be granted your visa because ………..It is a very popular saying. I know some Nigerians that applied from Nigeria that got approved for 1 year visa. I will suggest you pray about it and follow your heart. |
Luckymama:Yes it has a time of the year and there is a limit on the number of applications accepted. I think it is first come first served basis. |
Nkechi48:I year masters will give you nothing less than 1 year PGWP. In some cases, you may be lucky and get 3 years. A friend of mine finished from University of Western Ontario last year (a 12 months masters program). He applied in January 2020 for his PGWP and got approved for 3 years PGWP just last month. 14,16, 24 months duration masters or PGD/PGC will give you nothing less than 2 years under normal conditions. In most cases, 3 years. Although CIC states it clearly that they will give you a PGWP exactly the length of your program or up to 3 years, from experience, they don't always follow that. They give as they deem fit or what was written on the students completion letter. Why is the number of years you get for your PGWP important? To get into the pool for PR, you need work experience of at least 1 year. This is the common route by which most International students get their PR in Canada but it is not the only route. Getting a 3 year PGWP allows you to work for 1 year, do IELTS in between, pull resources, get into the pool and then apply for PR. Remember, getting a job almost immediately post graduation and passing IELTS within 1 year is not guaranteed. Having 3 years PGWP gives you that peace of mind. On the other hand, there are some provinces that makes it possible to get a PR even if you have just 1 year PGWP. For example, if you do a 1 year masters in Ontario, they have a program called the OINP Masters graduate stream. It is a provincial nomination program. It is strictly for people who completed their masters degree and have lived in Ontario for 1 year. They don't need to show work experience and they don't even need a job offer to apply. All they need is write IELTS or CELPIP exams and meet some other conditions and they are good to apply for PR. More information, please click link below. https://www.ontario.ca/page/oinp-masters-graduate-stream There is another program In Ontario called OINP employer offer: International student stream. From the name, you definitely need a job offer for this one. Please read further in the link below https://www.ontario.ca/page/oinp-employer-job-offer-international-student-stream There are other provinces that have good provincial nomination programs as well whereby you can apply for PR with a 1 year PGWP. A very good one is Saskatchewan. In conclusion, I recommend going for a program that gives you 3 years PGWP but If you decide to go for a 1 year program (due to reasons best known to you), make sure you choose the right province to study. All the best. |
Nkechi48:The bolded is possible since it is not admission into direct MBA. It is like getting admission for premasters program. You do some courses for some months, pass and then progress into the MBA/masters program. Tell the agent to give you the name of the school and then do your research. However, the truth is for most direct masters/MBA programs in Canada, you stand a better chance with a good 2.1 degree. In rare cases, with a 2.2, you can get admission if you had good grades in your 300 and 400level. The faculty and course also plays a role. Finally, the duration of your program will most likely dictate the length of PGWP you get. |
Nostradamus1:You have made the right decision. Make sure you fulfill that promise . |
dommakavelli:Very true, things are changing. For a start, restrictions on students work permit has been lifted until August 31st. Once you are in the essential services sector, you can work unrestricted as an international student. I suspect they might even extend it. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2020/04/removing-barriers-for-international-students-working-in-essential-services-to-fight-covid-19.html Post Covid19, yes, Canada will most likely be desperate for International students. They need our money ![]() |
Vsylva, Cflow and Matilda. Frank has answered all the questions. God bless you Frank. |
nochyks87:I got your PM. Unfortunately, I wont be able to respond because I have reached the maximum number of people I can respond to via mail. I apologise. However, If you ask here, I will respond. Thanks. |
Hammedbankole:Replied. |
sakalisis:To the best of my knowledge, getting admission in Fanshawe is through agents. |
Hammedbankole:Bros, don't call me sir, we are all young boys. Just call me Naija. Please click on naijaforeigner, send me a pm and I will respond. |
Echinedu1:I don't see where I did the bolded. You are the one who quoted my post and towed the line of the bolded. In anyways, thanks all the same. Have a good one. |
Hammedbankole:Bro no vex. Please can you ask your questions here. That way, you will get several inputs, suggestions and this will guide you towards making the best decision. |
Echinedu1:I think I clearly spelt it out in my initial post that there were conditions and not everyone qualifies for the money. The truth is majority of students that have been in Canada since last year summer/fall will likely qualify provided they have been working and lost their jobs due to covid19. For example, If you arrived Canada January this year as an international student, even if you have lost your job to Covid19, you definitely do not qualify because there is no way you would have earned 5,000Cad from January till date working 80 hours in a month (20 hours weekly). Even if you collect the money, your SIN number will expose you and you will be forced to return it Also, those ones that are working and still end up applying for the money are part of the people who will get into trouble. This can be easily traced via SIN. Major reason why the government said you must not be working, you cannot voluntarily quit your jobs, must have lost your job to Covid19 and you must have earned over 5000Cad. The application takes less than 1 minute once you have a CRA account and less than 5 minutes if you do not have an account. The whole idea is to make it fast for people to receive their money. No documents are submitted because it is assumed that the criteria has been clearly spelt out and easy to understand. Finally, I was laid off March15 due to this pandemic and I have earned over 10,000Cad till date before losing my job. I guess I don't need to tell you that I qualify. I will end up collecting a total of 8000Cad in 4 months and you are suggesting I should be worried about paying tax on the money next year? You want to collect free money and paying tax is supposed to be an issue? Am I not supposed to even be happy to pay tax cos it shows this country spends all the tax they collect very well? Bro, you and I know that people who qualify know themselves. I mean we can read and comprehend things, hence, why we paid so much money to study in Canada. The criteria is straightforward. CRA also has a number, you can call in and ask if you qualify. Na people wey won dey greedy or wey won game the system go dey ask plenty questions when the rules have been clearly spelt out. This is the end on this topic. Echinedu1:I clearly included the conditions in my post. Please carefully read the post again. Not everyone qualifies for CERB. |
uche06:Chances of getting a visa? No one here can give guarantees, just hope for the best. Seven years working experience? Try and check if you qualify for Canada PR. Coming into the country as PR is always the best move. Canada or UK? Post Covid19: Both countries will struggle economically. Canada's study visa is hard/challenging to get and just too many unnecessary documents to submit. You must put in work and prayers. UK's study visa is quite easy once you have the right documents. The application is very straightforward. I actually think UK study visa is the easiest in the world (my opinion). The question is what are your long term goals? If your aim is to study, work for 2 years and come back to change Nigeria, Please go to UK. If your aim is to get PR fast, I will say Canada should be your first choice. The country has flexible immigration laws, so many ways to become a PR and it is a country that takes care of everyone (well, this may also be because of the government in power). For example, everyone in Canada at the moment (Including International students) that have earned at least 5,000cad and have lost their jobs due to Covid19 are eligible for monthly income of 2000 Cad for up to 4 months. I got paid $2000 yesterday, e do me like film. I was not even making that much in a month doing 20 hours weekly before the whole Covid19 crisis. Some schools in Canada have also set up funds to help students. My school has a 1.5Million cad emergency fund gotten from donors and have asked all students to apply for a 1 time donation of 500 cad. Honestly I have being very impressed. How do you think students in UK are surviving right now without jobs? Parents who should be their sponsors in Nigeria are locked up at home with businesses locked up? UK International students to the best of my knowledge are not getting any support from government during this crisis. The truth is UK or Canada government owes International students nothing but the Latter chose to help international students regardless. I have lived in UK and now in Canada. Honestly, I love UK, I love the life (Canada is kind of boring depending on your location) and the British pounds will make you fall in love. I owe a lot to UK. However, the way the government of Canada has supported me this period of crisis, It has been amazing. I am spending the next 10, 15 years or even forever in this country. God bless UK and God bless Canada. |
segzyndpep:Calm down sir. One thing you and everyone on this forum need to know is no matter what you read on this forum, you must not panic. The information on here are a combination of rules and general guidelines. It is the duty of applicants to use their discretion when applying the information on this forum towards their own peculiar situation. From the information you provided, your situation is different and you should be okay. If you were able to convince the visa officer via your letter that your business will not be affected, you and your wife are the only signatories to the account and submitted all the required documents then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Just so you know, I have seen people get approved with company account. Even though it is not always advisable but it has happened and still happens. For future reference, what you should have done is transfer the funds (Living expenses and balance of fees) from your company account to your chequing/current account and explain the source of the funds. Also, you will submit your current and company account statements (to show source of funds) and other supporting documents. P.s: For all applicants, once you have done your very best and submitted your application, leave the rest in God's hand. If you feel there is a need to add a document, use the webform. |
isabeatrice:Yes, what do you want to know about the school? |
NwanyiOkpa:There is nothing to be worried about if you think everything in the letter is what the visa officer should know. I don't know your situation, so I cannot comment if 6 pages is good or not. Tips: Make sure you use a good font size, paragraphs after 8-10 lines, subtopics to make it easy for the visa officer to read. Read you letter again to make sure you are not repeating information. I will suggest you give someone on/outside this forum your letter to have a second look. You don't have to pay for this. It could be a friend or family member. |
Admin9:If you are a first time applicant, I see no reason why you should write 7 pages. That is information overload, totally unnecessary. If you are reapplying, you will definitely need to write more and address issues raised by the Visa officer. However, 7 pages still too much. That's about 3,500 words. Please note, there Is no word limit for LOE but make sure your information is straight to the point and not filled with things not related to your application. If you write too much, you may end up leaving the visa officer asking more questions than answers. Although, If you feel convinced to write 7 pages, please go ahead. I have seen someone with over 6 pages of LOE on this forum approved. Just make sure it is well spaced and arrange each sections properly using subheadings. Can you use 3 sponsors? On CIC website, there is no limit on number of sponsors an applicant can use but wisdom is profitable to direct. Take a step back and try to see your application through the eyes of a visa officer and you will get answers to most of your questions. What impression does an applicant with 3 sponsor give a visa officer? Who are the 3 sponsors? My opinion, use a max of 2 sponsors. If you cannot, you can try your luck with 3. Luck/grace also plays a role in this process. All the best and Happy Easter. |
Owoch:Congrats! Congrats! Congrats! Frank and Jnyuwa02 (that guy no Dey this platform again) has been helpful to many of us, great guys. See the snow in Winnipeg |
Lekiboboe:Those officers at POE can ask for anything they want. It happens a lot. |
iwillgetthere You have very valid points but i think schools will handle that aspect by losing one semester or session. I think we see it differently. Canada needs students more than they need PR holders post covid19 (my opinion). The students contribute a whole lot to their economy via tuition. At the moment, Canada is spending a whole lot in terms of benefits for PR, Citizens and International students. Once you have earned $5,000 in the past year and your job has been affected by Covid19 crisis you are eligible for $2,000 every 4 weeks for up to 4 months. No country in the world has been that generous this time of crisis to International students. Well, they need to make that money back post covid19. I don't think they can afford to block the huge resources International students offer (Africa and Asia), well not now. It does not also mean they will increase visa approvals. One thing is certain, many things will change, not just for Canada, post Covid19. Time will tell. |

Yes this news was updated and sent out to all schools on Tuesday. Unfortunately, it was a bit too late. Most schools already cancelled admission for students outside Canada who were supposed to begin lectures in May and made them defer till September. It is also important to note that there are some courses that cannot be offered online. This whole thing is new and schools are thinking of ways to adjust. For example, streaming from Nigeria for classes in Canada will cost a whole lot of data. Who will pay for the extra cost? light issues? laptops? streaming issues? How will the school support students if they tell all applicants to resume May from their respective countries? The good thing is, for students who have approval and are in Nigeria and decide to stream online for summer classes (if their school permits) should know that it will have no -ve effect towards PGWP as confirmed by IRCC. The impact of Covid19 on visa applications? I don't think IRCC will deliberately refuse students. It is the schools that will look for a way to defer applicants. I see a situation where schools will reduce applications they receive for subsequent sessions to balance up (there might be no winter 2021 for some schools in some programs or reduced applications). There is a limit on students they can accept for a program per session. It is well. |
Crystalheart:Scroll down, there is a section that says Start an application. In that section, click on Apply to come to Canada. |
Yads97:One thing is sure, Canadian economy will fall during this crisis and it will take time to bounce back. Post covid19, more people will struggle for few jobs. Will they allow more immigrants into the country post covid19? Time will tell. My advise? Applicants thinking of migrating to UK, USA or Canada, should do so fast! |
sharpsharp Yes, all the documents you listed are spot on. In a nutshell, the visa officer needs you to convince him/her that you are a genuine student. |
Obehi44:I did not use a table in mine, I only listed my documents and amount in my LOE. Yes, I have seen so many applicants use tables in their LOE. |
Obehi44:I will respond to your pm but I don't have a sample of the table. Cheers. |
geosolomac:(1) There is nothing to justify really in your sponsor's SOA. The best your bank can do is give the owner of an account a letter stating how long the account has been operated for, how good the customer has been and if your sponsor is the sole signatory to the account. They cannot comment on what the money will be used for because if the money is not used for that purpose they can be held liable. (2) Your dad will give you his SOA, try to prove he has always being responsible for your studies and submit your birth certificate to show proof that he is actually your dad. or he can simply transfer the LE to your account and state how much in his sponsorship letter. You will need to submit your SOA alongside his for proof. You can also create a table showing total available funds in your sponsor's account, funds transferred to your account, total amount of funds available for your studies and so forth. You need to show proof. You can go further by converting to Canadian dollars in another table stating clearly the site you used for conversion. Oanda is approved by UK for conversion, you can try it. P.s What I have stated above is optional. So many people have submitted SOA without a letter from bank and had their applications approved. I did not include a letter from bank in my application and still got approved in 2018. |
Shanid:No bro. |
Preshy2004:How your son will get PR should be the least of your worries. He is 17, any province he decides to study, he will easily get PR post graduation. If money is not an issue, factors you should consider when choosing a school for your son are; One, as a future software developer, is it not going to be good he gets as much hands on experience while studying? Any opportunity to get practical work experience (coop/ internship) should not be overlooked. Two, of all the schools listed above, which province has the highest employment rate for software developers? Three, what is the reputation of the school, international students in the school, ease of employment for UG students post graduation (this may not even be necessary because you may want him to go for masters degree) and so forth. Finally, please submit your visa application alongside his. You have every right plus very good reasons as a mother to accompany your 17 year old son. All you need to do is make sure you write a letter detailing why you must follow him and make sure you mention the number of days you will spend with him in Canada. Use hubby, hubby’s work or business, your place of work, properties as ties. Apologies for any errors or typo. Had to use my phone to type this. Cc Seun Osewa, please why is it becoming difficult to log into Nairaland with an explorer or google chrome? |
I was refused SP last year, i applied for a graduate certificate program. I got Loa from another college this year though for a 2 years post- sec sch diploma which is lower than a BSc Hons i hold. So basically, i need a strong LOE. Thank you in anticipation for a response. Email id: faithndinigwe@gmail.com Regards.
For the bolded, I strongly suggest you apply for a PGD/PGC. Paying expensive fees for a degree lower than your BSc in Canada is not a good move. |
