Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Is A Nigerian Salary Earner Of 500k Per Month Considered Rich? by Naijaforeigner: 3:31pm On May 27, 2022 |
I must seriously commend that lady uyailncomparabl on how she was matured all through in responding to men who can’t seem to let a lady have an opinion on issues. It’s so sad and sickening to see that most Men on this forum cannot even discount ladies opinion on issues without resorting to insults and name calling. I will NEVER call someone that earns 500k Naira rich. A single guy earning 500K monthly is doing well for himself but not close to being rich even if he does not have responsibilities. However, with time, if he is focused enough, he will be able to save and get the needed funds required to make him invest and this will eventually place him on the journey of being rich. All the best. 2 Likes |

Cti28: Some of you just come to social media and use words you have no idea of. How can someone save 5M out of a possible 6M in a year? Won’t he pay for rent out of the 6M? Won’t he eat? Transport? Accommodation, feeding, rent, data, controlled or scheduled giving to family and friends, miscellaneous, already amounts to 1M in a year. I think most of you project what you can possibly save in a month out of a possible 500K monthly salary because you all don’t earn that much. I pray God elevates you and make you to start earning that amount, then you will know wassup. As you save, you also need to LIVE. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. I will be looking forward to you your post on financial discipline techniques on how to save 5M out of an annual salary of 6M in present day Nigeria. Thank you. I don’t live in Nigeria but I am keen on learning. |

biglizzy: Boss, you will need to do your own research on the possible migration routes to the UK and then decide on the best option for you and your family based on your financial level, qualifications and so forth. There are UK visa threads on Nairaland if you need further information. Back then, I moved to the UK 8 years ago via studies. This was the best route for me at the time. Super1759: I lived in UK before moving over to Canada. When it comes to the way of life, I prefer UK. The short distance by flight to Naija, the cheap Naija food, the fact that you feel like you are still close to home while living in the UK and so many other reasons will always make me prefer UK. Personally, I think there is something missing in Canada when it comes to the social way of life. I have a good job, I am a PR but I still feel a void within me. I never felt this way while I was in the UK even on a temporary Visa. Maybe it is just me, maybe it is the whole covid situation and the whole lockdown Canada has subjected us to. I just feel something is missing. This does not mean I do not like Canada, I just feel there could be more. This is my personal opinion! Please note: Your Canada experience could be completely different to mine. When it comes to making money, professional career and advancement, I would say both countries offer similar opportunities. Maybe you can make more money in UK but the difference can’t be too much when compared to Canada. I always tell prospective immigrants to consider 2 things first before moving to any country; Human rights and ease of becoming a PR in that country. In UK and Canada, your human rights are fully covered which leads to the next one, ease of becoming a PR. I don’t think any country in the world right now comes close to Canada (except New Zealand) when it comes to how fast you can become a PR. Canada is “dashing” out PR at the moment and this won’t stop anytime soon. The downside is, Canada’s visa application/ process from Nigeria and even within Canada can be frustrating, challenging, time consuming and you will need all the patience in the world. Finally, if you are looking for a way to get yourself and family out of Naija super fast, then UK is your go to country. All the best and happy Sunday. 48 Likes |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Why Applying For Too Many Jobs Could Be A Bad Idea by Naijaforeigner: 7:24pm On Dec 20, 2021 |
tiazedi: I completely agreee with you and it is just Nigeria alone. A month before I graduated from a college in Canada, I sent out my resume to nothing less than 50 companies in the space of 3 - 4 weeks. Once I see a specific job advert that checks all my boxes, I will calm down and draft a very tailored resume for that role. But for others, I just keep applying. It is a number’s game and yeah, it worked for me. 1 Like |

folla: First thing I need to tell you is your situation is not that difficult, so don’t let anyone scare you. You are seeing your family soon, stay strong and hopeful. (1) Your finance has to be strong. You have 3 kids, so you need to show a very strong bank statement that demonstrates you being capable of taking care of your kids and yourself. (2) if you did not do this in your initial allocation, your wife needs to send you a letter from her school and her transcript in your next application. This will prove she has registered for her courses and fully active. Also, has she paid her tuition for the session? Trust me, that is also a big factor. If she has not finished paying her fees, please do ASAP and attach evidence in next application. (3) If your wife is staying in a place that is conducive and can comfortably accommodate you and the kids at the moment, you will need to attach the lease of her current apartment. Otherwise, you can explain on the same letter stating you will be getting a bigger place once you arrive. Also point out that you have money to pay for the bigger apartment. Your bank statement comes in here. (4) Your wife needs to get a letter from her school stating the -ve impact the absence of her hubby and her kids is having on her mental strength and adjusting to the new environment. Her Dean or program coordinator can easily give her this letter. Yes, she thought she could cope without you guys but now the reality set in and she has observed that she needs her family closer to her now than ever. You can add additional details and this will address the non accompanying issue/ concern which the Visa officer mentioned. (5) Visa officer mentions issue of not finding work to support yourself and kids. This is a valid concern by the visa officer with the growing cases of covid plus the recent Omicron virus. This is why I mentioned earlier, you need a hoooge bank statement. Showing a hooooooge bank statement will easily take care of this concern. I will strongly advise it has to be a bank statement that can easily take care of you and your kids for at least some months in Canada. It is important you are specific and very detailed in your LOE. For example; On or before your arrival to Canada, you and your wife will get a comfortable 3 bedroom apartment that will cost $1,500 Feeding for yourself, your wife and 3 kids will cost $1,000 monthly. Total monthly spend = $2,5000 Based on my calculation above, I have $50,000 that will comfortably take care of my wife, myself and my kids on arrival to Canada for X amount of moths and …….. These visa officers, you need to spell it out for them in such a way that even a lay man will understand. (6) Visa officer mentions not coming back and other stuff. Do you have properties in Nigeria? Do you have a land? You will come back and do business in your country. There is always something to do back home, explain. Explain all of the refusal reasons with a detailed LOE with subsections and you are good. I know a very close family here in Ontario with 5 kids. Hubby (late 40’s) was the first to come to Canada on study permit. Wife applied to join him with their 5 kids but got refused. She applied the second time and as I speak, they are in Canada. As we speak, the family will be getting their PR soon via the TR to PR pathway. Oh, lest I forget, the wife is a Nairalander. Happy holidays. 42 Likes 4 Shares |

Alchemist01: (1) The government has a list of approved hotels. Please carefully go through the link below. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/latest-travel-health-advice/mandatory-hotel-stay-air-travellers/list-government-authorized-hotels-booking.html (2) Flight prices depends on airline and date of travel. Please try to check different airlines and compare prices. (3) I will suggest you check with your school first (some schools always have listings or recommended sites to check apartments) you can also try out Kijiji and Viewit. Don’t look up apartments until you have booked and confirmed your flight. If you plan on coming to Ontario, I will advise you do that soon because government officials are currently considering stopping international students from coming to Ontario. I wish you all the best. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Commotfornigeri You still don’t get it? Everybody is not you, needs are different. Why have unlimited WiFi and still pay for unlimited data for phone right? I have unlimited WiFi in my house (I work from home) and I also have unlimited data on my phone because every morning, I take a 1 hour walk plus jog in between and use my phone data to listen to music, podcasts, make calls and so forth before I resume work. I live in Ontario, Canada. Peace bro. 2 Likes |

Dameelee: Congrats Dameele. Oh yes I finished from Fanshawe and I had to do 2 PGC programs. I am still in London Ontario, I work and live here. What should you expect? I don’t even know what to tell you. Well, it is a cool city and for me, l love it here (except the boring social life). It is also an okay city for international students although COVID has made it a bit challenging for students to get part time jobs. Have an open mind, embrace other cultures and be willing to unlearn some stuffs we have been used to as Nigerians. Transitioning from a 1 year PGWP to PR. This is a difficult one to answer as each person will have to evaluate their situation and determine best suits them and assess their apetite for risk. It also depends on your age, IELTS, how soon you can get a job in NOC O,A or B post graduation and which route you are considering for PR. Is it easy to get jobs post graduation in NOC 0, A or B? I did and had friends who also got those jobs. I must add, your program of choice also plays a key role. It is very possible to get PR with just 1 year PGC, I have seen few people do it BEFORE COVID and I have friends in the process as we speak. I must also add, it is risky. My personal suggestion will be, go for a second program if you have the money so that you can have peace of mind. If you need anything when you come in to London Ontario, please feel free to reach out, ask questions as much as possible. I am more than happy to help you to the best of my ability. Fanshawe will likely give you 2 free nights of accommodation while you search for houses. On this thread In 2018, I got help from a wonderful man The Congo ( he has been in London for over 20 years or there about) and another wonderful Nigerian lady ( I can’t remember her user name anymore) who helped me settle in. God bless them. 22 Likes |

Papapa1234: (1) oh yes you can travel. Most international students in Ontario and Quebec travel to USA a whole lot during spring and summer breaks. And yes, you can travel home (Nigeria) during studies. Just make sure you travel during authorized school breaks, you have no immigration and school issues and you have enough funds that will sufficiently cover that trip. If you ever need to travel when school is in session (not a school authorized break) please get a letter from your dean or coordinator to that effect. (2) If it is going to be an on campus (school owned) kind of accommodation, yes you can pay and attach to your application if you want to. However, if it is an off campus accommodation, don’t pay for anything until you get to Canada. Scammers plenty for Canada too o, no lose guard. See what you are paying for with your eyes. P.s Having an accommodation before arrival is not a visa requirement. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Dampops: Yes, there is actually a thread for students living in Canada. Although, that thread has been inactive or very quiet for a while. You will need to search this travel section to find it. I also agree with you that living in Canada seems best suited for people who already have their PR’s and moved to Canada. It will be so nice to hear from past and current students in Canada where they are at the moment, how the journey has been so far and what has the whole experience been for them. I wish that thread can become very active. 2 Likes |

allexy2: The bolded, was that really necessary? Majority of your customers are international students right? Do you know that majority of these international students in Canada and USA do survival jobs, which are minimum wage jobs? So let’s be clear, you are cool talking down on people who do “low ass minimum wage jobs” but you don’t mind collecting their money right? You don’t mind them being your customers I am also very sure, you did those jobs when you were a student. May God give you the wisdom and humility as you continue in your business and navigate through life. 28 Likes |
