umulobi:No sir. When yo get to the POE, you will be given a study permit and on the permit is your work instructions "may accept employment on or off campus". All you need to do is inform CIC of school change via the online portal. You are not going back to the border to do anything. The conditions on your study permit is not school bound. Details of the 7 things you need to do while changing school is listed in the link below. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools/account.html If your program does not have a coop, the above is all you will do. If it does have one, read the details below. However, If your program has a coop, you will be given a study permit with the normal 20 hours work conditions and a separate work permit for coop. In this situation, the coop work permit is usually school bound. You will have to inform the international office of your new school and they will help you apply for a new coop work permit because the name of the new school should reflect on your coop work permit. While waiting to change your coop work permit, your study permit is still valid in the new school and you can keep on working with it. |
umulobi:Yes, you are allowed to and students do it. Once you change schools, you need to inform CIC via your online account. However, I will strongly advise that you don’t inform CIC of your proposed change until you are in Canada. If you change while in Nigeria, on getting to immigration, officials at the port of entry might ask you a whole lot of questions you may not be prepared for. I am not a guru and what I have put up there is just a an advise. All the best. |
Kinzeerichy:The part time job does not qualify you for Canadian work experience for the purpose of PR. It must be full time work. For international students, you can only get PGWP once. for more information on PGWP, visit https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/after-graduation/about.html |
DeeAz:Sorry for my late response, I did not get your mention and this thread is not on the first page of the travel section. The honest truth is the chances are very slim. As a student, you are only allowed to work for 20 hours and that can only take care of your feeding and accommodation. Getting a job to pay your tuition means you will work more than 20 hours, which might, depending on the situation, affect you getting a PR or PGWP when you are done with your studies. These are the options I think you have; However, I know some people who work more than 20 hours by doing cash jobs (so this does not reflect on their SIN number). Although, the chances of getting cash jobs depends on your city. I must be honest, only major cities in Canada (such as Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Alberta and so forth) have or offer steady cash jobs and it is not a guarantee. Another option is getting a job on campus and working outside campus as well. As a student in Canada, you are allowed to work for unlimited number of hours on campus. If you are lucky to get a job on campus plus another job outside campus, you may be able to pull through. This also depends on the campus and city. Not all campuses have jobs for students on site. P.s I know some people that have been able to pull it off but they are very few and this also depends on factors such as how much is the tuition. A student that has to pay $3,000 every semester is not facing as much pressure as someone who has to pay $8,000 every semester. The flexibility of payment and deadline by the school is another factor. |
Sholaystar4me:On Huron street. A big spacious 1 bedroom apartment for the price you pay is not bad. I know Morrington very well. |
Kinzeerichy:Western University is a very very good school. That should be your choice. |
Sholaystar4me:I and a friend live in a 2 bedroom apartment in London and we pay $1,275 monthly. This excludes monthly charge for WiFi ($30 - unlimited for virgin mobile), hydro ($27), washing and drying of cloths ($2.5 for washing and $2.5 for drying). And yes, most people from Toronto are now moving to london which has made price of buying and renting of houses so expensive. |
ron5ke:Send me a PM. |
Kinzeerichy:Yes your study leave letter is a very important document. Let it just state something like “we are granting you leave for your study and wish you all the best” something like that without indicating the year. Bro, if he is actually your uncle, from father or mothers side, tell the truth. Your uncle is also someone close and it is acceptable. Forget about all those things you are trying to do, it is not necessary. Let him explain why he wants to sponsor you. A convincing reason in his letter of sponsorship. Submit proof of how he is related to your dad or Mum, international passport page and other documents earlier mentioned. Submit and leave the rest with God. Your application is solid, don’t entertain doubts, fear or any voice trying to tell you to cut corners. P.s whatever I have told you is how I will go about mine if I were in your shoes. If you are not satisfied with my advise, you can do what your spirit tells you. I wish you all the best. |
Kinzeerichy:I saw your previous post and this one. Do it yourself without an agent. Be very careful when filling those IMM forms. Ask questions if you are unsure of anything. Blema asked you some very good questions which you did not answer, I will suggest you take time and look into it. I will like to ask you again, why is your company specifying 1 year as the leave period? Your LLM in University of Victoria, are you very sure it can be completed in 1 year? The transfer of huge funds into your account by your Uncle is not a big deal, once you can explain the source of the funds and why. You can use a table to explain. Your uncle has 16M in SOA, I hope he has had a good cash flow in that account for the past 4-6 months? The account balance is irrelevant if the cash flow is not good. Also show proof of relationship to your uncle. Mikeerrr suggested you wait till April as a fully funded scholarship might boost your chances. Even though there is no official confirmation to this, I strongly agree with mikeerrr. I suggest you wait till April to see if the full scholarship comes through. If by end of April, no show, go ahead and apply with University of Victoria. Applying end of April for Fall admission is still very okay. Changing schools is not a problem once visa is approved. If you will apply end of April, I suggest you tell your uncle to print out another SOA. However, any SOA within 30 days of visa application is accepted. Also, make sure you get someone to proof read your LOE. |
Austacus:The Igwe 1 of Ottawa. Sorry for the late reply, I was locked out of my Nairaland account. I filed taxes with H&R Block on Friday evening. I go call you bro. |
Lots of people still applying In Ontario, Elementary and high schools are closed for 3 weeks. Universities and colleges have resorted to online classes. Western University and Fanshawe college closed for 1 week. God help us these trying times. |
Hi Jollyfellow10, London, Ontario is okay. There are various fun spots in the city, very good restaurants and pubs. I think there is just 1 African restaurant in London. If you are not satisfied with the fun spots in London, some people drive to Toronto (just about an hour) every weekend to have more fun. Also, the famous Niagara falls is not too far away for sight seeing. Getting part time jobs during fall from my experience and what I have heard is quite easy. I think you should get one within a month or two months. P.s Fanshawe has lots of job opportunities on campus (survival jobs), most especially for students during fall. If you don't mind working on campus, you can think of that as well. Applications are open towards end of July/ Ist week in August. |
Matildaben:Hello Matilda, Financial documents If he is a salary earner, he needs to give you his savings or chequing statement of account for the past 4-6 months, pay stubs, employment letter and other documents to prove he can easily take care of you. It is also important he gives you documents to show where he works. If he is a business man, he needs to submit his savings/chequing statement of account, company account, CAC documents and other necessary documents to show he is financially capable of supporting you without any issues. |
Janeakpan:Yes it has happened before. Anything is possible. |
BlessedEby:You can do the process yourself. The first step is looking for schools, and apply to 2 or 3 schools that has your program. It could be masters, PGC or PGD. You qualify for all with of these programs with your CGPA. Masters admission can take 3 - 6 months, while college admission can be approved within weeks. Once you apply to schools, while waiting for admission, read up on the next step, which is applying for visa. A brief overview of the process and documents you need can be found here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit.html Once you are done reading from that site (it is the official site), then to make life easy for you, read up on people who have had their study permits approved so you can have an idea of the documents they submitted. Some people I know are blema111, bracha, vestment, Austacus, sleekysoft, wheynme, lonelydude. All you need to do is type their names in the search button on nairaland and you will be able to see their previous posts. Also, check the last 3 pages and you will see recent study visa approvals and the documents they submitted. If you have done all this and you have questions, please come back and ask here. This study permit process application to Canada is extreme hardwork but it is worth it. |
I also want to tell applicants to be very careful. The IMM document is the first document the visa officer always look at and CIC is very thorough when it comes to study permit and PR applications. |
eguoski:Well, the mistake has been made and now is the time to act. I want to assume someone else filled that form for you and you did not choose to deliberately misinform the visa officer. If someone else applied for you, did you fill the representative form? I will suggest you respond with an emotional letter explaining what happened and how you have been so unhappy, distraught, emotionally disturbed ….. since you got that reply. Explain how you will never deliberately do such, apologise and promise that such mistake will never happen again. Make sure your letter is brief, straight to the point. I wish you all the best. |
Ing123 I can see you are online. Can you please ask your question here? You have ben trying to reach me. It will be easier to answer you here. Thanks. |
DeeAz:The bolded, do you mean you want to know if it is possible to work as a student and the money from that job as a student, you want to use it to pay your fees and feed your child plus living expenses? |

Zoeeee, You have nothing to worry about. It is like that for everyone. Must enter and validity date is always the same. The must enter and validity date simply tells you 2 things (1) That is the date your program will finish plus extra 3 months must have have been added by CIC (under normal circumstances). For example, If your program ends next year April, your must enter and validity date on your correspondence letter will most likely be July 2021 (April + 3 months). (2) Also, it tells you that you must enter Canada before that date and the visa on your passport is only valid till that date. Make sure you enter Canada before that date otherwise …. - If your passport is not expiring soon, Your must enter and validity date should also be same as the date on your counterfoil (on your passport). Welcome in advance to Canada. May the land favor you. |
Jollyfellow10:What do you need to know? |
demure178:Letter of explanation This letter helps the visa officer to understand you and your goals. It explains -Why you want to study in Canada and -That you understand your responsibilities as a student You should include this letter if you decide to apply for a study permit, even if you don’t have to get a study permit for your program. source: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/get-documents.html#doc4 For first application, not really compulsory and so many people have had their applications approved without LOE. However, you should include your SOP to show your study plans. |
tba11:That's a very good program with lots of job opportunities. I have a friend studying same program at the moment. All the best. |

guiddoti:By managing oneself as a student, do you mean feeding and accommodation? If yes, you will get jobs within 1 or 2 months. Of course, the province and city also plays a role in how fast you get a temporary job as a student. |
tba11:Buy a one way ticket. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. Which program will you be studying in Fanshawe? |
vickyehi:You are wasting your time responding to that man! Check his past posts. I have never seen him post something positive about Canada. |
