Couldn't have said it any better.
Stop supporting abusers. Help the abused and let us teach our children now that abusive behaviour towards women isn't tolerated and is very wrong. Too much rubbish is allowed to thrive in Nigeria because we've been indoctrinated to believe it's okay. Thankfully, nations like Canada have robust laws that protect everyone's rights and those laws are actually enforced. Either you act right or you face the law. Shekena

Hello, thank you very much for this tip off. His permit will expire on the 30th of July (about 17 days). I have been trying to contact the embassy by phone and mail with no success, how did your friend reach them? And how did his appointment go? Thank you again.
Let your friend fill out the form online, print out those forms, get 2 passport photographs, take his study permit, passport and every other document as requested on the Nigerian embassy website and travel to Ottawa first thing tomorrow morning. He should also get a registered return envelope from Canada post. I am very sure they will process his application with or without appointment. He should be there as early as 9am.

I called my friend just now and he told me they attended to every one that was at the embassy today (about 20 people). He was told his new passport will be sent out tomorrow morning via the return envelope he submitted.

I am Surprised you all don’t know Vibrant99.

He comes here once in 6 months and tells you why you should not come to Canada, how Canada education is too hard and so forth and then he disappears.

Before the week runs out, you won’t see his comments anymore and then he will reappear in December grin Na him way.

Just read, enjoy and laugh off his comments.

Good afternoon people. I know someone in Canada who needs to extend their study permit, but their passport has expired. They cannot renew their passport in Canada because the Nigerian embassy here has stopped processing passport applications. What can they do??
When will your friend’s study permit expire?

P.s Nigerian Embassy Ottawa is officially closed due to COVID 19 but they still process very urgent applications. Your friends situation is urgent. Try every means to contact the Embassy and book an appointment.

A friend of mine was given an appointment for tomorrow. He just travelled to Ottawa this afternoon.
I will give you details when he is done tomorrow.

Come to think of it, when you come to Canada, you will meet different kinds of people from different countries. People from Jamaica, India, China and so on, how would you relate with them in school and in the work place? Remember cultural differences.

You are in a team of 5, tasks have been shared and then 3 of your team members reference Wikipedia, blogs (which are not reputable sources), how would you tell them to remove it without getting them angry? Some of them will tell you outrightly that they cannot remove it and your lecturer will say, you need to solve it as a team. They won’t step in.

Some of your team members in school will send you reports that are not up to standard or not properly written... how do you go about it?

You will be in a class, and a student will keep asking questions over and over again. A lecturer will be in Ppt (PowerPoint) slide 20 and then one student will say, professor, can you please go back to ppt 5 and then start asking questions that have been answered repeatedly. You will experience it when you come to Canada.

You will be in a team meeting with your members, and a meeting that should last 30 mins will stretch for up to 2 hours because of differences in how to approach the report, difference in having a shared understanding and so forth. What will you do?

The last one, you are in a team, tasks have been shared and due for submission 11pm Friday. A team member plagiarized her work, sent her part of the work 9:15pm, the whole report was collated and because it was already getting late, report was submitted exactly 10:57 pm without checking through turnitin (plagiarism detector). Well I mean, one would think, you shouldn’t be in postgraduate studies and be plagiarizing work right? You will be shocked.

Guess what, 3 days later, lecturer sends a mail to you as team lead, letting you know someone in your team plagiarized and everyone in the team gets a zero and all team members may get pink forms (it will be recorded in school records). What will you do? Sell out the team member who did it, get angry and insult he or she or take the fall together as a team?

When you come to Canada, you will be shocked to see students in post graduate studies who don’t have the patience to read a 1,000 word report.

In fact, once you have citizens of one particular country (name withheld) as team members, just start praying to God for grace. They are so laid back in approach and they are so comfortable with just getting a pass mark. But you can’t blame them, they were raised differently. You just have to be patient with how you manage And deal with them.

The point is this, you need extreme patience, emotional intelligence, Knowing when to ignore, when to listen, when to respond, when to walk away and respond later and so forth in life and most especially in Canada.

I am still learning. Big shout out to lekiboboe and Frank. These guys have PHD in patience and I am learning from them.

Good day All,

I will like to encourage sometime with a little about my story.
I graduated from a Nigerian university with a second-class lower division degree in STEM at 24 years and finished NYSC at 25 years. Unfortunately, as peculiar with Nigerian environmental, I got my first job at 28 years after 4 years in the wilderness. The delay in getting a job was my mediocre degree (i.e., finishing with 2.2) and lack of working experience at 25 years (how will I get the necessary work experience when I have never been employed).

Fast forward to a decade later, after working for over a decade, got frustrated with Nigeria society placing a limited to what you can achieve, I decide to make a change to my family situation by returning to school in US/Canada. Initially, there were few obstacles, I got admitted into a fully-funded master’s degree program in the US with an average stipend by God’s grace. I left the shore or Nigeria with my entire family and started the program at 40 years. I graduated with a master’s degree with a GPA of 3.56/4.0 at 42 years. Fortunately, I was admitted into a fully-funded Ph.D. program in Canada’s top university with a very generous stipend and started the program at 42 years. I have currently completed the program required coursework with a GPA of 4.0/4.0, passed candidacy exam, five publications, and 3 manuscripts under review in top peer-review journals.

What is my point?
Despite where you might have started from, the environment you live might not be favorable to you, age or family commitments might be barriers. However, do not give up, please hold on to your dream. The grace of God will see you through. If you quit today, you have failed tomorrow.

Please note
My story is not unique; I have seen many tremendous journeys of beautiful people who do not quit/give up and achieved great heights. I am sharing my story to encourage you that no barrier is big or strong enough to stop you from achieving your dream.

I hope to challenge someone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice one.

Happy Sunday my People. Please I have one probelm that I need your advice on.

My passport is getting expired sept 2021 but my PGD prog for Saskpoly would end in Dec 2021.

Please guys, what do you advise I do. I would like to do a new passport and have the visa stamped on it so that I don't have to worry about renewal when I get to Canada.

On the other hand, I being sceptical because I don't know if I can get a new one from our immigration office since the old one isn't expired and I'm afraid the VO may be uncomfortable with me presenting a new passport since the old one isn't expired yet.

Please I need your help to tackle this issue.
I think in Nigeria you may not be able to renew your passport if the date of expiry is more than 6 months. However, please go to immigration and tell them why you need a new one. Just try, you could be lucky.

If they do not give you a new passport, you have nothing to worry about. Use the old passport for your visa application, when you get to Canada, you can easily renew your passport, you will get your passport the same day in Ottawa and then you can apply for extension of study permit.

You cannot trust the future with the present.

I honestly don’t know why people will call someone’s mentality wack just because he thinks differently. So sad.

I mean these are his concerns. He alone knows why he said such.

Yes maybe he shouldn’t have posted it on a public forum but these are concerns most married people have before moving to the western world.

Big ups to you Einsteino. A very matured response.

Good morning everyone,

I have been admitted into brandon university for bachelor of business administration, but based on advise from here, post graduate diploma in business administration or business management will be better.

I tried to apply to langara college, it seems the course is full for January 2021 intake.

The other option is fanshawe, but I was told I have to apply via agents, on the school page, application fee cost 100CAD but agents are charging #50,000, #100,000 the last one said #150,000 . How do one byepass this?.

Cc : naijaforeigner , frank and many more. Thanks
There are several colleges you can get admission into without using an agent. You can give those schools a try.

However, if you still decide on going with Fanshawe, tell those agents you got the list from the International office and the school specifically asked you to pay $100 for admission.

Some agents will ask you to pay registration fees. The total you should pay to any agent (registration + admission) should not be more than 50k naira. When you get your study permit, Fanshawe will refund your $100.

Once it is above 50K naira, just try another school.

The bolded is spot on.

In this debate, everyone is right, we just have to be more open minded!

Not only schools want your money, everyone wants your money (including me lol)....so focus more on proofing your genuiness and increasing your chances ok? Obviously the advise wasn't intended for everyone...but those who have an open mind....do a situation analysis, focus on your pros and cons, then decide.
You have raised valid points and I always like people who bring different perspectives to issues. It is not a bad idea.

My only fear for students who decide to take the bold step of doing the online course, is that, they will have to pay fees.
In most schools, you have a time frame to withdraw to get a fee refund. If

If a student's study permit gets refused (this is a possibility) even after paying fees, the student might not be able to ask for refund anymore because at the time of refusal, the time frame to withdraw from course might have passed.

Now, because time frame to get fee refund has passed, he/she will be forced to continue online. Now, lets assume the student gets the study permit on second attempt, but by this time, more than 50% of his/her studies had been spent outside Canada, will that still count towards his PGWP?

What even happens if a student pays and he gets refused back to back because you and I know these IRCC guys are so unpredictable? It means a student might end up paying huge amount in naira to get Canadian online studies from Nigeria?

The upside like you rightly mentioned, is it shows one is a genuine student and applicants can leverage on this opportunity by paying fees, attending courses online and so forth to prove they are.

Also, If an applicant gets refused, It is a good ground for getting an immigration lawyer. I mean, why refuse a student after paying fees, using his own money to pay for wifi and so forth.

The truth is, it is a very brave and bold move. This life is for the brave and risk takers innit?

My suggestion, If you are an applicant and you are thinking of taking this bold move, please speak to your school's immigration officer before making the move. I am actually surprised they are allowing students take lectures without study permit. Maybe there is something they are not saying.

Bro I've been willing to ask this question
These people that travel out with student visa and with no family over there.. how do the get accommodation.. is it that when they touch down, they stay in hotel for some days then they start looking for houses through agent or what??
Kus I want to leave without going to meet anybody over there
Once you are about to move to Canada, make sure you post it here https://www.nairaland.com/4933819/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant

If you are single or coming alone, you will likely get someone to accommodate you for few days before you find your own house. I got someone on Nairaland who helped me settle down and even stood as referee for me when I was moving to my own house.

Some schools also provide two free nights of accommodation for first timers. My school did.

If you are a Christian/Muslim, you can contact your local church/mosque before arriving. They are always willing to help.

Most people also view housing sites few days before coming to Canada. That way, they already have a shortlist of houses they are interested in and the contact info of landlord, so that on arrival, they call the landlord to set up a meet for viewing. You can get a house within 3 days of landing in Canada if you plan well.
Although, if you are coming with your partner and kids, getting accommodation might not be that fast for obvious reasons.

Sometimes, you may also find houses on Nairaland but please make sure you arrive in Canada, see the house with your eyes, meet the landlord and read the terms of agreement before making any payment.

Greetings house trust all is going well please i was told to come here and ask questions God bless us all
First of all I am going for my masters in finance at Windsor university
Here is my query
1)My mother is my sponsor but here is the issue she doesn’t own no CAC documents cause basically she is not into running a company, but she has so many inherited properties and she also sells and buys Properties too , I have printed out her statement and for the case of supporting documents as source of income she gave to give me the “THE TRANSFER OF INTEREST IN LAND AGREEMENT “ about 5 showing the properties she sold and also the ones she paid for.
These documents I am talking about are notarized , signed and stamped by her lawyer.
is it advisable to go ahead and submit huh?

2) do co-sponsors have to submit their source of income too ??

3) my elder brother owns a real estate company he has the complete CAC documents is there any way I can join it to my application as source of income for my mum since it’s literally buying and selling of properties she does to sum the money in her account or I should just go ahead and submit what she gave me !?

God bless us all
Cc mcobex, justmellow, frankrobbn1, Naijaforeigner Wunaarroon69 , and everyone who can be kind enough to advice me I am about submitting my application
(1) Go ahead to submit. legal documents to show proof of how she earns her income is okay

(2) Yes.

(3) If your elder brother is your co-sponsor, then clearly state that in your letter.
Show proof of relationship to both your mum and brother (birth certificate)
Show proof of source of income.

Don't complicate things, submit only relevant documents. Arrange your documents properly and you are good to go.
I wish you all the best.

Sometimes the SOP is where all the flaws in one's application comes out, I know Frank (very good man) has helped vetted alot of SOPs here, but let us all make sure that what we are saying in our SOPs correlate with the documents we are submitting.

Got this off ircc website.

Please check official fee schedule and birth certificates.

I was asked if I have taken any standardized English language test before, I ticked yes and my toefl score report is the evidence.

I hope my GMAT score report also helps to push the point that I merited the admission for mba.
My initial post were guidelines and my opinion. I did not include birth certificates of siblings in my application. All I did was fill out their names, DOB in the family information form. However, there is no one size fits all.

If you feel the need to include those documents, please do. You can never get penalized for including extra documents. Just make sure all the documents are legible enough for the VO. That’s the most important thing.

On the issue of Toefl, you already ticked it on the form, so you can include it. If you think GMAT is needed as well, please do.

Even though we give guidelines on what to do and what not, the most important person is YOU. It is very important that you feel happy and comfortable with documents submitted for your application.

I pray you get your visa, your documents look solid. I really love the fact that you did further research on information you received here. I wish you all the best.

What's the age range for PR?
There is a whole lot to PR and there are so many routes to PR. It just depends on the one you decide to use.

It is a points based system. I cannot specifically give an age range. So let me put it this way, people below 30 will get more points than people over 30. But age is not the only criteria.

I will advise you ty to understand the whole process, the possible routes so that you can make an informed decision.

Things like this do happen. Your sponsor also plays a role in all of this most especially if he/ she is a third party sponsor.
