Ysakaws1:I have come across students with 2:1, masters degree, MBA go for college and get study permits from Nigeria. I also got 2:1 (very close to first class) and I got into college although my application was from UK. However, in my case, college was the only option I had when I wanted to move. Is it true that it is very difficult getting study permit in situations as yours? I honestly don't know, but that is the myth surrounding college applications from Nigeria. The normal advise from gurus on this forum is go for masters if you have a 2:1, most especially if it is a high 2:1. I will advise you stick to what the gurus say. |
Ysakaws1:Humber Collège specifies program length in terms of semesters and not years. The credential type (advanced diploma, diploma, Ontario graduate certificate) and program type most times determine the program length or number of semesters Another thing to note is, a year has maximum of 3 semesters. Some programs can have all 3 semesters in a year, while some could be 2 semesters yearly with 4 months break in between. It depends on the school and program. So for example, if a program in Humber college is 4 semesters, such program will definitely run for more than a year. If a program is 2 semesters, that program is definitely a 1 year program. What is your program choice, check for that program on the school website and then you can tell if it is 1 year or 2 years. With regards to PGWP, IRCC will surely (guaranteed) give you PGWP for at least the length of your program. In most cases, once you go for programs above 1 year in duration, they normally (not guaranteed) give 3 years PGWP. |
vibes7:As per the bolded, I strongly suggest you avoid using a third party for payment. Use form A or flywire (even though the charges are high) to make payment. All the best. |
Very funny how people are suggesting IRCC is tricking students to pay tuition because they need the money to boost their economy ![]() More than 70% of schools in Canada have advised students not to start courses until they get study permits, so how is IRCC trying to trick students? Yes, students drive their economy but if they actually want to deceive students into paying tuition, IRCC would have easily given out visas to almost all fall students, tell them they cannot defer and then ask them to have 50% of their studies online. That way, everyone will be forced to pay their fees his fall and boom, the money will boost their economy. You all saw one document suggesting the applicant got refused after AIP and you just assume it is real? lets even assume it is real, that is just 1 person in over how many students that has gotten AIP? Over the years, people have actually been refused after receiving medical request and even after getting PPR. It is nothing new. People even get turned back at POE, is that also trickery? ![]() Let's be clear, Yes, few people will be refused after this AIP but majority will get study permits. This is my opinion. Over the years, I have always maintained that Canada's study permit process is faulty but this whole idea of tricking students to boost their economy is funny to me The whites are definitely not perfect but this whole idea of trickery is funny. Everyone should calm down, defer your admissions if you have to, no one is tricking anyone. Be in constant communication with your school and follow whatever they tell you. All the best. Stay positive and remain calm. |
Thoyesh:Just 1 year and you are good to go. |
Nastan:Yeah some schools don't offer PGWP eligible programs. You have nothing to worry about in your case. To the best of my knowledge, Cape Breton offers PGWP eligible programs. However, do confirm yourself in the link below. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare/designated-learning-institutions-list.html#wb-auto-29 |
dayjeee:You are very much welcome. |
adeyemieee:Flywire. Their rates could be a bit on the high side but I think that's the only option you have right now. |
dayjeee My recent comment was specific for only that poster. Situations differ. Yes, getting a second program is very easy, you can even change schools. One thing I have realized is, sometimes, having 2 certificates from 2 different programs gives you options. For example, first 8 months program, you study Logistics and Supply chain management and then you go for a second program, another 8 months, in Business Analysis. When you graduate, you can search for jobs in 2 different fields, which gives you better chances in the job market. It simply means you can look for jobs in Logistics, supply chain, transportation, supply chain analyst roles, business analyst, business architect, business intelligence, Agile and Scrum roles, data analyst, even project management roles (Business analysis and project management are similar) and so forth. You can see the multitude of options studying 2 different programs has availed you. It also gives you an opportunity to specialize in a specific industry/field while also having broad knowledge in some other fields. Also, people take 2 programs so that it avails them the opportunity to switch to another sector. Coming to Canada, career progression is important but when you are inside Canada, that does not count. I have been in Canada for more than 20 months and I have seen people switch between programs that are not similar inside Canada without problems. As a matter of fact, this happens a lot in colleges. Na normal level for colleges. Reason why I always say, when people get to Canada, they will get clarity The only challenge is, you will need to apply for another study permit while inside Canada. Also, there is a myth that Visa officers rarely give people 1 year visa from Nigeria to Canada. I have seen people get 1 year visa's, I am only bringing your attention to what people say. Just think about your long term goals and be strategic. I wish you all the best. |
Dameelee:He is done with studies so I am assuming he is on work permit at the moment. He can apply right there in Ireland. |
TheCongo2:The bolded, facts. The Congo, I hope you and the family are staying safe. God willing, in December, we should have another get together ![]() Dameelee and Eilenora, there are several Nigerians living in London and several nairalanders studying in Fanshawe. I have had the privilege of physically meeting 4 of them. Dameelee, transitioning from study to PR depends on so many factors. You will get clarity once you arrive Canada. London is a good place and I love it. I wish you guys all the best. |
dayjeee:I have seen so many people give you wonderful suggestions and I completely agree with all they have told you. Just to add, you can consider Business analysis, even if it is a 1 year PGC and close to graduation, you can try applying for jobs such as customer service analysts, customer support analyst, Global service support analyst and so forth. If you want 3 years PGWP, you can apply for another 1 year PGC in Data analysis/science. In these days of organizations employing individuals with T shaped skills, having a combination of Business and Data analysis skills alongside your previous experience in customer service is a big advantage for you. |
jogojogo:IRCC= Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada NOC = National Occupation Classification PPR = Passport request VO = Visa officer LOA = Letter of admission PGWP = Post Graduate Work Permit SP = Study permit PR = Permanent residence VAC = Visa application centers |
Minah2020:Ok I get it. Western is a very very very good school but the fees are on the high side like you said. When you get to Canada, you will get clarity on the next steps to follow. All the best. |
Minah2020:Yes, it is possible to get a master's admission with a very good result and good academic referral on completion of your PGC. Are you thinking of coming to Canada, complete college and then go for master's? |
impeccablerose:It is not just for accelerated programs. IRCC is unpredictable. A friend of mine finished from UWO last year December, Chemical Engineering (1 year program) and got 3 years PGWP. Another person in the same department, applied and got 15 months PGWP. Another person got 1 year PGWP. I have also seen someone who finished 2 years college program and IRCC gave him exact 2 years PGWP. Again, it tells you the unpredictable nature of IRCC. Although, in most cases, on the completion of 16 months/2 years program, it is almost a guaranteed 3 years PGWP. Under normal conditions, the program completion letter and visa officer's discretion determines the length of your PGWP. With regards to accelerated programs, my former flat mate finished from University of Windsor. His program was supposed to last for 16 months but he completed it in 12 months. On his completion letter, school stated the initial 16 months on his LOA and he got 3 years PGWP. If you are sure the program can be extended to 16 months and it will be stated on the completion letter, then you are good to go. If you are thinking of going for a 1 year program, please have a back up plan. P.s for college students, if you do 1 year program, It is exact 1 year PGWP you will get. |
Taiwolus: ![]() One thing I know for sure is, this Covid19 is a blessing in disguise for International students whether living in Canada or about to come in. Schools need International students, Canada needs money in the system. For those of you with AIP and you are medically fit, not a criminal and did not submit fake documents, relax and be praising God in advance. While waiting for second approval, start thinking of the skills you will need in Canada to survive. I know most people will likely defer. Please go and learn how to drive and get your license. Learn French. Learn French. Learn French. Can you learn how to make hair? Barb hair in 4 months if you are thinking of waiting till next winter 2021? What technical skills do you need in Canada for your program post graduation? When you get to Canada, there will be no time. Why not start now while waiting? Professional Certifications you can start reading for? Get ahead of your colleagues. All the best. |
Lekiboboe:Big congrats, very well deserved. To all others who got AIP's as well, congrats. Those waiting, you will get it, just be patient.. |
Frankrobbn1:The bolded is spot on. Also, most schools are losing money. Some students in Canada refused to attend summer session online and asked for refunds, No summer intake, the potential of no intakes for Fall is making schools bleed. Schools are on red at the moment. IRCC is bending their rules majorly because of the schools. |
SeraSera:The information is very solid. The info is based on someone I know personally (same school, same work place). There is another guy on nairaland by name Austacus who lives close to the Nigerian Embassy in Ottawa, you can contact him to find out further details. |
Nellyoo:Most people always advise students to go for 16/24 months program so that they can get 3 years PGWP. This will give them enough time to apply for PR. Honestly, 1 year goes by so fast In Canada. I am tempted to say time abroad goes faster than the one in Nigeria. This does not mean I have not seen people finish 1 year degree programs, get 1 year PGWP and then get their PR. I will give you an example of two different situations. Some of my pals graduated last year August. They applied for PGWP around mid September 2019, got jobs around October via implied status and received 1 year PGWP in January 2020. April this year, some of them lost their jobs for obvious reasons (Covid19). They plan was to use the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under the Express entry program (EE). The CEC needs you to have at least 1 year of experience in Canada under NOC O, A or B to be able to apply for PR (there are other factors to get necessary points). Unfortunately, Covid spoilt plans and their PGWP expires December 2020. Till date, they have not found another job and PGWP is running out. P.s Under normal circumstances, IRCC says PGWP cannot be extended for international students. However, I advised them to write a letter requesting for PGWP extension citing the pandemic as sufficient reason for such. If they can prove they were laid off due to Covid19, IRCC will extend (this is my opinion and not backed up by any law). The point is, with a 1 year PGWP, anything can happen, timeframe can be a bit short. I also have some friends in Ottawa, Brampton who still have their jobs, same 1 year PGWP and they will be applying for PR around October/November. For these ones, 1 year PGWP is good news for them because it saved them the cost of applying for another program and luckily, Covid did not affect their jobs. So In a nutshell, your answer to the questions below will help you determine if 1 year PGWP is the best for you. (1) What express entry route will you use? (2) Which province will you be studying? In some provinces, you can become PR so fast via their PNP nomination programs. Answers to questions (1) and (2) are very key. (3) What are your skills and experience and what program will you be studying in Canada? Your skills, experience and program of study plays a key role in how fast you will get a job in Canada. (4) Can you pass IELTS/CELPIP in 1 year? I have seen people do these exams 4 times (5) You can start searching some job sites (Indeed, glassdoor, linkedin) and start checking for possible jobs related to your program under NOC 0,A,B. How often do you see job opportunities in your proposed program of study? do you have the technical skills being asked for? The factors/questions above are not exhaustive. There may be other things you need to consider. Do your research. You have the time now. Just so you know; the same documents you need to get 1 year visa is exactly same you need to get 2 years visa. I wish you all the best. |
teekay021:Just imagine? no thank you, just "hello" |
Being too nice is a big weakness. I will leave you with this quote below, once you read it, you should know what to do. "Helping people is godly and good but making people dependants on you through the good you do is ungodly. It starts becoming counter productive when your help develops in people a beggarly attitude or inferiority complex. Whether it is through financial help or mentoring". Poju Oyemade. p.s you see that popular saying "givers never lack" that is the biggest lie ever told. It is givers with sense that never lack. |
They still process applications. Fill the forms online, make payment, take the necessary documents along and travel to Ottawa. They will attend to you. Also, purchase a return envelope from Canada post, take it along and your new passport will sent out the next day via courier. |
At the moment, becoming a Canadian citizen as an immigrant is the fastest in the world. When you get the Canadian passport, you can then choose to relocate. |
Engager69:Maximum respect my brother. |
123abcclown:We can disagree to agree bro, no worries atall. You are spot on with the program being expensive without the initial approval. I wish all the applicants well. |
123abcclown:IRCC were very clear in their directives, I guess you know more than IRCC? If you have issues with IRCC, take it up with them. Yes, fall students should take advantage of this moment. You don't need to agree with what I said as it is just an opinion. for the bolded in your post, I guess I should say same for your initial post when you stylishly replied without quoting me? My opinion is not up for unnecessary argument. Take it or leave it. P.s You seem to be getting a bit hyper these days. I do hope Newfoundland is treating you well. Do have a good one. |
Someone said you cant bully IRCC into approval I laugh in Chinese. Those of you that applied for this fall, you submitted the right documents, your documents are genuine and don't have any criminal records, watch how approval in principle rain will fall on you. P.s Each individual should do as the spirit leads. God bless Canada |
jessicajessa:Apologies for quoting this long post. I remember clearly, this was the lady as at June 07, 2020 who first suggested that people should take advantage of this COVID19 situation. Infact, she mentioned people should not defer but rather submit their applications, pay fees and start online courses. Reading the news from IRCC, I guess she was super spot on. Fall students, take advantage of this opportunity. |
