Car Talk / Engine Oil Specifications: What's The Best Oil For Your Car? by Naijautonews: 11:19am On Jan 21, 2019
Engine oil specifications
Every good product goes through certain certifications before they are approved for us. Car oils are no exception. Check carefully that the oil has been certified to meet certain specifications. A good oil should have ACEA and API ratings as these are the acceptable standard.
1. API specs
API stands for American Petroleum Institute while ACEA stands for Association des Constructeurs Europeens d’Automobiles.

API is very basic and easy to understand. It has two different categories for passengers. S = Petrol and C = Diesel. Most oils have both diesel (C) and petrol (S) specifications. Let’s take a look at the updates of the oil specifications!

SG: contains a high degree of functional dispersants that are resistant to black sludge
SH: has similar engine tests as SG but contains phosphorus limit 0.12% in addition to volatility, foam control and stability
SJ: Its engine test is the same as SG/SH, but it contains a phosphorus limit of 0.10% as well as volatility limit variations.
SL: This is mostly found in all new engine tests of modern day engines designed to align with the latest emission standards.
SM: It has advanced features such as oxidation resistance, wear protection, low performance temperature and deposit protection in comparison to the older categories.
CD: represents the international turbo oil engine standard for many years. It makes use of a single cylinder for engine testing.
CE: indicates an improved regulation of oil consumption as well as piston deposit and wears, oil thickening, and makes use of multi cylinder engines for testing.
CF4: shows continuous improvements in controlling oil consumption and deposit of pistons. It also makes use of emission test engines that are low.
CF: It’s the advanced CD version. It’s mainly used for indirect injection engines.
CF2: It’s the yardstick for defining accurate control of deposits in the cylinder and scuffing of the ring face.
CG4: Development of CF4 made way for continuous control of oxidation stability, piston deposits and soot entrainment.
CH4: Development of CG4 for better performance, is the result of more comprehensive engine tests involving either low or high-sulphur fuels.
CI4: conforms to 2004 emission standards, optional to systems with up to 0.5%-sulphur fuel or when CE, CD, CG4, CF4 or CH4 is required.

Specifications in use before the SL are no longer efficient. As a matter of fact, they have gone into extinction. For other specs apart from CH4 are still useful in older vehicles that are over 10 years old, their performance level and protection are nothing compared to the more recent specifications. In brief, the best oil specs are the most modern ones: SM, SL, CI4 or CH4.

2. ACEA specs
The ACEA is the European version of API in the US. It lays more emphasis on the specific oil performance. A = Petrol, B = Diesel and C = Catalyst Compatible or low Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur (SAPS).

Performance categories of the ACEA include:
A1 Economy petrol of fuel
A2 Performance level (standard)
A3 High performance
A4 Put aside for future use in some direct injection engines
A5 Uses both A1 fuel economy in addition to performance of A3
B1 Diesel fuel economy
B2 Performance level (standard)
B3 High performance
B4 Used on cars with direct diesel injections
B5 Uses fuel economy of B1 with performance of both B3 and B4
C1-04 Based on A5/B5-04 low SAPS, petrol & light duty diesel engine, 2-way catalyst compatible
C2-04 Based on A5/B5-04 mid SAPS, petrol & light duty diesel engine, 2-way catalyst compatible
C3-04 Based on A5/B5-04 mid SAPS, petrol & light duty diesel engine, 2-way catalyst compatible, higher HTHS, resulting in better performance
Regarding ACEA specs, car oils with A3/B3, A5/B5 or C3 index are of higher general quality compared to the rest of above list.

3. Other specs to look for on car oil bottle
Intended use
There are various car oils on the market. Each of them serves a unique purpose. You don’t just pick any oil and use it on your car without knowing if it’s suitable for that purpose. Doing that will worsen the situation, leaving you with more problems instead of a solution. Read what the oil is intended for, thoroughly, before taking it close to your car.

Oil Viscosity or simply the oil "thickness"
Single-grade engine oil is labeled one in 11 grades: 0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 25W, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60. The "W" symbol refers to "winter", meaning the dynamic viscosity of certain oil is measured at different ranges of cold weather. The lower the grade is, the lower temperature the oil passes. Non-winter lablel oil is measured at exactly 100 °C.

A good number of modern oils put up for sale are known as “Multi-grades.” This simply means that such oils belong to two different grades of oil, and noted in the form of 20W - 30. The concept of multigrading came into use about 50 years ago to stop car users from using different kinds of oils at different seasons.

OEM approvals and codes
OEM approvals and codes are important variables to look out for. If they are missing, the product is most likely not certified. Using such a product is at your own risk.

You will find several OEM’s on the bottle of oils. The most commonly used ones in the UK include BMW, VW or MB. But don’t assume that any oil that has them is authentic. Although recognized companies producing oils send their oils to OEMs to get the recommended approvals, some older specs can be created with cheap materials. Be on the look out for newer specifications as they are better by all standards.

What is the best oil for car engine?
There are many factors you need to consider in choosing the best oil for car engine. If you read thoroughly earlier parts, you can withdraw some basic lessons to find a suitable car oil bottle.

First, synthetic oil is considered better than conventional oil in many cases. It helps keep your engines cleaner, perform better and harder to break.

Second, oil products with certain API and ACEA specs have higher performance, conforming to modern vehicle standards, namely SM, SL, CI4 or CH4 (for API) and A3/B3, A5/B5 or C3 (for ACEA).

Steps to pick the right oil for your car:
1. Study the suggested oil weight and viscosity in your vehicle manual

2. Look for recommended oil type or even oil brand for your vehicle in the manual (if have)

3. Identify API or ACEA specs that suit your vehicle

4. Find the oil product with OEM codes and all above index/ specs.

Diesel engine vs Petrol engine – Which is best for you?

First, you need to understand that these two types of engine were initially created for specific reasons. The petrol engines are purposely created to power cars while the diesel engines were targeted towards bigger vehicles like trucks, buses, ships etc. It will be right to say that much hasn’t really changed with the petrol engines as per the initial usage target but this wouldn’t be true with diesel engines because, over the years, we have seen some good use of diesel engine in cars.

1. Diesel vs Petrol engine fuel efficiency
When it comes to efficiency, let's see some important factors to consider;

a. The engine fuel consumption rate
On approximation, a standard diesel fuel should produce about 38.8Mj of energy per liter while a standard petrol fuel should yield about 34.8Mj of energy per liter.
This means diesel fuel burns at a much slower rate than the petrol fuel when it’s producing a sufficient amount of energy needed to put a car in motion. As a result of this, the car mileage increases if it uses diesel fuel instead of petrol fuel.

b. The compression ratio of the engine
Before you read further, please keep in mind that an engine’s efficiency is directly proportional to that engine’s compression ratio in most cases. We have the rule for this as below:

Engine’s Compression Ratio ∝ Engine’s Production of Mechanical Energy ∝ Engine’s Efficiency

What we're trying to convey here is if an engine’s compression ratio is high of a particular fuel, that engine is capable of converting a huge amount of chemical energy into mechanical energy. Accordingly, during the introduction of this concept in diesel and petrol fuel, it was noticed that diesel fuel yields more mileage and efficiency. And with 20:1 standard compression ratio, it produces greater mechanical energy than with 10:1/12:1 standard compression rate of petrol.

c. The Torque value of the engine
Very often you might hear that diesel engines can develop a much higher torque value than the petrol engines. But that brings the question, what is torque value, right?
It isn’t that complicated you know. Actually, torque is what determines the turning force that is required to drive a car away from its parking position. So, if at a low RPM, a high torque value is produced then, which means that you can increase the speed of the engine without wasting much of your fuel.

2. Diesel vs Petrol engine performance
Even though this is not really meant to be a debate kind of article, we can literally say that the petrol engine wins this point. The reason for this is pretty simple, petrol engines generally have lighter parts compared to the diesel engines. And this makes the engine allow for the high Revs when it is being operated.

Thus, we can see more performance efficiency of petrol engines compared to the diesel engines.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOUJ4C61Lts

3. Diesel vs Petrol engine - Verdict
If we are going to put all of the above-mentioned factors aside and focus on some other factors such as the cost of fuel, cost of a car, cost of maintenance etc. Then, we are definitely going to have a somewhat different story. What does this mean?

I mean as we are aware of that in most places, the price of a diesel fuel is mostly less than that of petrol fuel. It is actually indirectly related somehow to the prices of these cars you see in the automobile markets. In simple terms, cars with diesel engine are costlier than cars with petrol engines. And not just that alone, it is also a fact that the cost of maintaining a car with a diesel engine is higher than that which is needed to maintain one with a petrol engine.

Just like we have mentioned earlier that choosing between a diesel engine and a petrol engine is not a simple decision but rather one with a lot of factors considered to make. So, with all we have discussed and elaborated above in this article, we will conclude that we have given you some good amount of information you will need to choose between these two engines. Although we still have some bonus tips/advice for you. Find them below!

Take away:

If you are a kind of person who travels long distances on daily basis, or your type of work involves long distance drives on the motorway then we think you should consider buying a car with a diesel engine.
But

If you are someone that would mostly be moving within your local environment, or your work will only involve shorter distances and your mileage is lower, we highly recommend that you should consider purchasing a car with a petrol engine.
And conclusively, we hope that as you are now very much aware of some of the pros and the cons of diesel engine vs petrol engine, and with our bonus tips/advice, you should be able to choose the best car or vehicle that will suit most of your requirements.

Car Talk / Don't Pay To Get Your Car Air Conditioner Recharged! by Naijautonews: 11:22am On Jan 16, 2019
The air conditioner of your car needs to be recharged from time to time in order for it to function properly. A lot of people would rather take it to the garage than do it by themselves. While there’s nothing wrong with that, they spend money on every visit.

Did you know that you can actually recharge your car air conditioner yourself? You get to empower yourself with the skill, and save some money in the process.

Steps on how to recharge your car air conditioner yourself
It’s already established that your air conditioner is in a bad condition and needs some recharge. To get started, you need to kit up.

1. Wear some goggles and gloves for safety
2. Take a look at the condensing coils to be sure that they are clean

Check the engine compartment for the manufacturer’s instructions on coolant type and quantity of oil needed. This information is on a sticker somewhere there.

3. Grab your recharge kit
Connect it to the two system ports: high and low pressures. The low pressure is thicker than the high one. Then, you need to remove everything in the air conditioning system. After that, connect the charge hose to the bottle of refrigerant. Now turn on the low-pressure valve.

4. Having emptied the system, suck the refrigerant
Afterwards, turn on the ignition as well as the air conditioner. This is to ensure that the system takes in gas from the bottle.

5. Take a look at the high and low pressure levels mentioned earlier
Double check the levels stated in the manufacturer’s guide and compare both. Ensure that the bottle drains the coolant completely.

6. Take off the kit
Close the system. Remember to move closer to the air conditioner and check if it’s working smoothly.

Bravo! Your car air conditioner is working just fine, and you did it all by yourself.

Travel / Re: Nigerian Passport Requirements And The Official Cost Of Obtaining It by Naijautonews: 12:04pm On Jan 11, 2019
herlecks:
Can the national Id card be used in place of the local government letter of identification?

Yes, the document is to prove your identity, so you can use either of them. smiley
Travel / Nigerian Passport Requirements And The Official Cost Of Obtaining It by Naijautonews: 11:21am On Jan 10, 2019
The Nigerian passport is a passport document issued to Nigerian citizens who intend to travel outside Nigeria. It is an electronic passport, also known as e-passport. And it is issued by the Federal Government under the government agency, the Nigerian Immigration Service. The passport document is graded into two: Standard or official e-passport. Each of these graded passport document is issued to a Nigerian citizen depending on the purpose for usage. The standard e-passport is normally issued to the general public while the official e-passport is given out to some specific class of government officials.

The Nigerian passport is used to identify a Nigerian citizen in any part of the world. So, if you intend to travel outside the country for any reason - whether to study abroad, work or any other purpose, you’ll be needing a Nigerian passport to that effect. We understand that some Nigerian citizens don’t know the requirements and official cost of obtaining the Nigerian passport. And for this reason, we’ll be listing out the requirements and how much it costs to obtain a Nigerian passport here on Naijauto.com.

Nigerian Passport Requirements
Like we stated above, the passport document is of two types but we’ll be focusing on the standard e-passport since it’s for the general public.

A letter of identification from your local government.
Your birth certificate or age declaration
Two recently snapped colored passport photographs.
A guarantor’s form sworn either before a magistrate, high court judge or commissioner of oath.
A letter of consent from parents, for e-passport applicants who are under 16 years.
Marriage certificate where it’s applicable.
A police report in case passport gets lost.
Now, let’s move over to the cost of getting your own Nigerian passport.

Official cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport
The cost of a Nigerian international passport is dependent on two factors. They are the applicant’s age and the number of passport pages the applicant is applying for. Let's check the table below.

Nigerian passport application fees by age and passport pages
Booklet type Age 0-17 Age 18-59 Age 60-above
32 pages ₦8,750 ₦15,000 ₦8,750
64 pages ₦20,000 ₦20,000 ₦20,000
When we say official cost, we know that in reality here in our country, the official cost is not realistic. Applicants pay more than the official cost. We sure know how it goes in our country. Many applicants who have processed theirs have mentioned different price of what the Nigerian passport had cost them.

Reasons why vehicle stability control is important

Vehicle stability control (VSC), also known as Traction Control System (TCS) is one thing that your vehicle’s engine management, fuel economy, transmission and brake systems have in common.

Below are different names automakers call the vehicle stability control:

Toyota: Vehicle Stability Control
GM: Stabilitrac
Ford: Advancetrac
Honda: Vehicle Stability Assist
Chrysler and Mercedez Benz: Electronic Stability Program
Subaru: Vehicle Dynamics Control
Volvo: Dynamic Stability Control
It’s that season of the year when we do a lot of traveling for the holidays. Many vehicles will be plying the road, with most travelers heading to their villages to go see their families. However, before embarking on that journey, you need to ensure that your vehicle stability control is in good condition.

It’s common knowledge that the majority of our roads are bad. If your vehicle stability control is faulty, you are prone to danger on the high way due to many potholes. When you drive into potholes, sensor cables in the suspension system are stretched beyond limits.

Do you hear a clanking sound from your wheels? If yes, your vehicle stability control has been jeopardized. It will shut down the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and your vehicle stability control will shut down afterwards.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd5JMQr4qe0

The suspension system doesn’t fare well on bad roads. As you continuously drive on bad roads, the sensors are most likely to get damaged.
Reckless driving is dangerous to both you and your car. Apart from the risk of getting involved in a fatal accident, you expose your vehicle control system to damage. They are not built to withstand such pressure over a long period of time. Apply the brakes with caution. Swift and forceful braking are harmful to your car’s electronic stability system.

The vehicle stability control can be likened to the human nervous system. It encompasses several sensitive parts of the body. When it is compromised, your vehicle is most likely to shut down. And it could be fatal if this happens while you are driving.

Car Talk / Woman Tries To Fuel Up Electric Tesla With Gasoline by Naijautonews: 10:51am On Jan 04, 2019
What is the funniest thing you have seen at a petrol station? Why don't you give our story a try and see if yours goes anywhere near ours! Check it below!
How the world would look like without women's cuteness, elegance and spontaneity? It wouldn't be an optimistic scenario. Men are, to be honest, cold-hearted, rational and industrious, all of which constitute a boring individual. What are we supposed to do without them then, shake hands and get to work? We need women in our life, period. They invigorate our life and sometimes entertain us in the most unexpected ways possible. An occasional kiss, a hug from the behind, a temporary forgetful moment, to name just a few. There are many ways a woman can surprise us, in this case in particular.
This woman in our story chose a whole different approach, she decided to give everyone at a gas station a good laugh, by driving a brand new, fully electric Tesla vehicle into a petrol station.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rls392hA9Y0

In this video, the woman seemed confused. She went around the car several times, trying to put the nozzle in every hole she found, she even opened the car trunk to see if there's any gas cap inside. At one point, she even seemed to want to put it into the side light.

She finally gave up after several attempts and decided to call one of her friend, or maybe her husband (the one who bought her the car?). The two guys in the nearby car were giggling hysterically for a good 3 minutes before one of them decided it's time to break it to the woman. The guy in the passenger seat got out of the car and approached the woman. After exchanging some information, the woman seemed to understand the situation and was pretty appreciative. In the end, both had a good laugh.

Business / Interested In Car Wash Business In Nigeria, What Do You Need? by Naijautonews: 5:22am On Jan 03, 2019
How to start a car wash business in Nigeria?
Before asking “how to start a car wash business in Nigeria,” think twice whether you really want to step in this field or not. So, is car wash a good business in Nigeria or in your region to be more specific?

I must say, once you excel at your job, every business is profitable but how profitable is a car wash depends on the type of business you aim to start. Should it be a large scale professional car washing service, the income must be enormous when you succeed. Otherwise, it brings you a considerable amount of money, albeit not huge, if you just want to open a small-scale shop.
Now, what do you need to open a car wash? Follow these guidelines to prepare things needed for a car wash!

1. Manage your finance
Make sure you know how to raise money for your business. To small-scale one, sparing a budget around N200,000 to N500,000 from your own savings might be sufficient for initial operation. However, the capital must be many times higher for large-scale car washing services. In that case, you may need to call upon the investment from other partners with strategic business plan for annual revenue. Always remember: failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

2. Research the market
It’s extremely important that you have referred to others’ business in car wash services. Try to visit as many places as you can to see how they set up their store, what kind of equipment they use, the number of customers they can attract and other tricks they use to promote their products. Learn from their both success and failure!

You will also need to survey your potential customers whether they like particular type of service or what they dislike at current car wash services. This is a valuable source of reference for your business plan.

3. Pick a location
The spot you choose to set up your business can decide you succeed or not. Don’t rush to choose a convenient place for you, everything must be considered in your customers’ views.

A location near busy streets with regular vehicular movement is surely the place to go. You may find some popular filling stations in the neighborhood who are willing to give space for hire. Transports often patronizing these stations are probably your first customers.

4. Get approved by authorities
Of course, you can’t build a car wash business without informing the authorities. Prepare every document related and reasonable explanations for possible questions. They won’t cause troubles if the drainage and gutter system at the spot can handle the sewage.

5. Prepare the borehole or a well
No need to say, the borehole or a well is a must for car wash business. Make sure water supply is maintained stable regardless of weather or power condition! Also, try to keep the borehole and well clean all the time, car owners will freak out if they see their vehicles washed with dirty water.

6. Buy the essentials
To launch your services, these items can’t be missed:

Overhead tanks to store water in scarcity
Generator to power the equipment and lightings
Detergents that are friendly to the car painting layer
Buckets, brushes, mop and towels or car washing machine if affordable
There might be some more to meet specific demands of customers but above are the least things needed for initial stage.

Car wash business plan for smooth operation
Starting a car wash business plan is the next thing into consideration. This should be easy if you have a business background or experiences in the field. On the other hand, you can take a look at some feasibility study or available plans online from those running car wash services. Most plans work for large-scale business while small-scale one is much easier to operate.
Below are some notes to consider in composing your business plan:

Analyze the SWOT: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of your business
Determine your target set of customers: mainstream drivers or hi-class car owners?
Draft your advertisement or promotion to attract more customers: this can be done offline through leaflets, news letters or online via ads on media and the Internet.
Project the expenditure and sales for the first few months
To know exactly how to run a car wash service, there are so many factors you must learn. Be open to every advice you get but be selective in adopting them!

Cost to start a car wash
Car wash business cost varies in different types of business. As I mentioned earlier, a modest shop just requires around N200,000 to N500,000 to operate in the beginning.
However, if you want to secure the success right from the first days, you must pay a lot more for business strategy consultancy, modern equipment, personnel training or even buying an already established car wash business. Hardly can we estimate the total amount of money spent on those kinds of stuff.

More details on types n prices of car wash machine here: https://naijauto.com/market-news/to-succeed-in-car-wash-business-in-nigeria-what-do-you-need-1417

Back to car buying tips, let's welcome the new year 2019 with top economy cars to buy for this year!

Cheap and practical does not mean that these models give their drivers boring sensation.

Economy cars refers to models with low buying and maintenance cost. Because of that, people often associate these models with dull. In fact, not all economical cars are boring, and you can look at 15 names below to understand why we say so.

1. Honda Civic Hatchback
On this day, we can see the name Civic Type R mentioned everywhere with great praises but let's not forget the existence of the Civic Hatchback standard version Although it could not produce the max speed of 300 horsepower, this car runs fast and boasts vast range of practical uses.

2. Volkswagen Up!
Although this Micro Up model is not available in every market in the world, it deserves to be in this list as you may find it very fun driving this car. A lightweight chassis combined with a short wheelbase is a formula that brings smiles to all customers, regardless of the driving pattern.

3. Ford Fiesta
Fiesta is a very impressive and beautiful car. It is also well equipped and can be fitted with Ford's excellent 1.0-liter supercharged 3.0-liter turbocharged engine. And if you have a little extra cash in the bank, you can choose to take the "upgraded" Fiesta ST for less than $22,000 (equivalent to around N8 million).

4. Kia Rio
The model that was once considered cheap means of transport now becomes a shiny hatchback, with good driving sensation. You will not be disappointed when choosing Kia Rio with the manual gearbox version.

5. Kia Soul
The appearance of the Kia Soul family car may not be suitable for everyone, but it is definitely a car that can hold a lot of people and luggage. A perfect car to do all sort of things.

Car Talk / Nigerian Inventor Drives Self-made Aero-amphibious Automobile To Meet President! by Naijautonews: 4:56am On Jan 03, 2019
A Nigerian researcher and inventor named Durojaiye Kehinde Obasanjo has taken a 15-hour journey in his self-made aero-amphibious automobile/jet from Lagos State to Abuja in an endeavor to meet Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The vehicle, as shared by Obasanjo can move on the ground, underwater, and air, has the design of an airplane with propellers and wings, capturing lots of curiosity as it run along Abuja streets. People keep showing awe while asking him for a touch and selfies with the outlandish car. He installed a floating device so the car can easily move on water:

That is it cannot sink and it moves like watercraft when in water and moves like a normal car when on the ground and moves like aircraft when flying.

Sharing on his desire to see the president and the vice president, he said:

There was a car that I built to be mass produced in Nigeria to boost our GDP but some local government officials in Lagos destroyed that their boss told me it was an illegal venture.

I reported the case to Governor Ambode of Lagos and he said they should meet with me but they ignored his directive. That is why I came to Abuja to report to the necessary quarters.

So, I want to meet Mr. President and Vice President to let them know what is going on how they destroyed that vehicle.

Mr. Obasanjo hopes the Government would protect this invention

The man also said that he spent over a year to build this car from junk materials and showed off that worldwide viewers and media corporations were interested in his invention, CNN even made a short documentary about it.

That is why I go to the length of using junks so that people will see it and know what we can do. It runs on fuel and solar energy alternatively.

Talking about the commercialization plan, he expressed his wish that Nigeria would be the first country to bring the vehicle into mass production, also he believed that it would be a breakthrough in the world’s transportation history.

What a creative and bravery man! Now, let's wait and see what would happen next!

Car Talk / 3 Porsche Prototypes That Have Never Been Put Into Production by Naijautonews: 11:18am On Jan 02, 2019
Which words appear in your mind as being required to describe Porsche: luxury, opulence, and class? In Nigeria, people could count the number of Porsche cars on the fingers of one hand since they are rare and expensive.

For a long time, a great number of Porsche prototypes have been created from the undisclosed chambers in the Research & Development department of the Porsche company, paving the way for many iconic vehicles today. Among them, the German carmaker brought five into a film, first started with a Porsche 984, which features the compactness, lightweight, and aerodynamics. It weighed 880 kilograms (~1,940 lbs), used 135 PS engine, and could attain the top speed of 220 km/h (137 mph). The automaker created this car with the sole purpose to obtain energetic driving ability with small driving resistances, instead of using a powerful engine.

The Porsche Cayenne Cabrio was designed on the basis of the first-gen Cayenne, equipped with a Targa roll bar, a unique design feature as called by the automaker, together with two distinctive rear-end designs.

Undoubtedly, the Porsche company never produced the Cayenne Cabrio, but the 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster edition 1987 shared the same fate. This car had the cockpit covered with plastic and a seat only, which reminds us of the 1950s Porsche 550 Spyder.

On the contrary, the Porsche Panamericana was built as a gift for Porsche Ferry. The car that was completely designed only after several months had a zip-roof kept in the boot. The Panamericana prototype had 250 PS ready on tap, and the top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).

The No.1 position has been saved for a particular Porsche prototype, which’s the basis for one among the most iconic cars of Porsche ever. It has a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and some journalists had the chance to touch it first hand in 2012.

Car Talk / Re: Car Buying Tips by Naijautonews: 8:50am On Dec 28, 2018
Let's see How to distinguish between a genuine seller and a scammer when buying car online today!

Tip 1. Check the car photo
No seller affords to redesign their photo's background before they post it on classified websites, so if you find edited car photos, it is likely that they are not legit ones and are downloaded from the internet. And the seller of the listing is usually a scammer.

Tip 2. Check the car description
Normally, scammers do not like typing detailed descriptions because they lack information about the car. They usually copy the general car description from a random website and paste it in the description field. That would look like this:

Make: Toyota
Model: Corolla
Year: 1999
Notice that scammer’s description is usually very short and doesn't have any suitable explanation of the car. The reason is that scammers hate wasting time to make a valuable description or they don’t know the necessary car information. For instance, scammers always write short description such as “Nigeria used Toyota Camry, buy and drive, for more detail call Mr A”.

On the contrary, real sellers should make a long description, which includes a great deal of information about their vehicle. Therefore, their car description is usually long and very valuable in order to provide car buyers with as much information as possible to come to buying decision quicker.

Tip 3. Check seller's other ads
Another useful way to spot scammers is checking out their cars posted before. Make sure that their previously photos have the similar background or legitimate write-up. Otherwise, those sellers are likely car scammers.

Tip 4. Other little but important tricks
Those sellers might be scammers if they do the following things:

Request your advance payment in order to keep the car for you before you see it
Tell that he/she is not in the country, so you must contact with another person to process some papers before you can take the car.
Refuse to let you come to his/her house or office to check the car
Post the same car on different ads with different prices, features or mileages etc.

Car Talk / 9 Intriguing Stories About The History Of The Bentley Brand by Naijautonews: 8:30am On Dec 28, 2018
Many of our readers deem themselves to be avid fans of the Bentley, but only a small number of them really are. Let's see if you belong to that notorious minority:

1. The date of establishment
This is an easy one. What is the year Bentley was founded? It's 1919, not by an auto expert but actually an engineer and constructor from Great Britain, Walter Owen Bentley. He set out with the vision to build the best car of its kind.

2. The owner
Bentley was handed over to VW (Volkswagen Group), the one that also owns Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi and countless other famous luxury brands.

3. The oldest flagship
Though being the first Bentley car ever made, the 1920 EXP 1 was not the one that worths mentioning. The second one, 1920 EXP 2, was the one that stole all the thunder by being the oldest surviving Bentley and also the first one to win on a race track.

4. The SUVs
Falling behind pretty far from other brands, Bentley just jumps into the SUV section not very long ago, with its Bentley Bentayga and it was mass produced immediately. Its specs are, of course, as impressive as the reputation of the brand. With just over 70 million Naira, you can be able to control a W12 engine with 600hp of force and can reach 100km/h in just 4 seconds.

5. The first big order
The year 1994 marked a sizable order from the monarch of Brunei, which comprises 6 SUVs with different colors, priced at a total of 8.4 billion Nairas. Interestingly, the chassis that makes up the car actually belongs to a Range Rover.

6. The symbol
Do you know that the ornament on the bonnet of the Bentley can be retracted back into the hood? This is intended to be an anti-theft feature of the ornament. The first one back in 1920 hasn't got this feature yet.

7. The royal interest
The Queen liked the Bentley so much that she ordered 2 of this type, each priced at around 4.6 billion Nairas. They are, of course, armored for the safety of her majesty.

8. The celebration
For the 100-year milestone, Bentley intended to create a commemorative symbol in their cars called Centenary Badges. The badges will be present in all of Bentley's 2019 models.

9. The time
Bentley Mulsanne was the Bentley with longest production time, more than 4 hundred hours while a Continental GT only needs more than one hundred hours. That's probably why only 5 Mulsannes are built per day while up to 26 Continentals are out into the market daily.
The heart of the machine. the W12 engine only takes 13.5 hours to build from scratch to finish, while, surprisingly, 136 hours are needed to do the interior of the Mulsanne.

Car Talk / Re: Car Buying Tips by Naijautonews: 7:33am On Dec 27, 2018
If you tend to buy an electric car, check out Why are electric cars not popular in Nigeria?

Electric vehicle (EV) is known as a new concept in the auto market with a lot of advantages as environmental friendliness or reducing fuel consumption. While EVs are in high demand in developed countries, they are not very popular in Nigeria. The following might be the reasons why:

1. Range Anxiety
When driving electric cars, drivers always have to worry about when and where they should have their car's battery charged up, otherwise, they cannot arrive at their destination because of the car’s insufficient charge. This makes Nigerian feel not only inconvenient but also dissatisfied

2. Charging time trauma
For gasoline or diesel cars, Nigerian drivers need just five minutes to full fill up the gas tank. In contrast, they must spend at least 4 to 6 hours to get the EVs fully charged. Besides, it takes them a lot of time to find a commercial charging station on the road.

3. Short supply of electricity
Nigeria is a country which is short of electricity while electric vehicles spent a large deal of electric power. This is also one of the most important reasons preventing electric vehicles from being manufactured or imported in the country.

4. Higher prices
An electric vehicle is more expensive than a gas car. Normally, an affordable EV starts from as low as $30,000 and go as high as $40,000 while a luxury EV can cost up to $80,000. Most average income Nigerian cannot afford such price tag.

5. Maintenance matters
It’s true that EVs drivers do not need engine oil like gas cars users do. However, when it comes to maintenance, there are not many experts having the capability to repair electric cars, especially in Nigeria. That’s why EVs seems to be not welcomed in the country.

Politics / Jimi Agbaje Swears To Disassemble The Lekki Toll Gate If Voted In Lagos Governor by Naijautonews: 7:29am On Dec 27, 2018
Recently, Jimi Agbaje, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship (PDP) in Lagos, made a vow to dismantle the Lekki Toll Gate as a part in his 2019 election campaign as describing the fee collection activity there is illegal.
The PDP candidate emphasized that the toll gate are now under the management of Lagos State Government although it was constructed by a concessionaire. And the question why citizens were still compelled to pay road charges to pass always occupies his mind.
Agbaje also criticized the one-hour charge-free passage that his counterpart in All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently gave to all the motorists. He said:

"Unfortunately, the toll gate is opaque because no one knows its financial records. So, asking people on your campaign trail and others to pass without paying for just one hour is absurd and regrettable.

Good road is a fundamental right of citizens and we promise to deliver on this and many other things.

At the moment, most Lagos roads are impassable because of their poor condition. Now, motorists are compelled to pay heavily for passage.

How about the so-called alternative routes? Ideally, government should have provided alternative routes to the Lekki Toll Gate, but the available alternate route is in a terrible shape, so everybody is forced to use the toll gate and pay.

Therefore, yesterday’s drama by the governorship candidate of the APC is a farce. Nobody was deceived by the party’s action which also smacks of disrespect and bondage."

What do you think about this?

Car Talk / Most Fuel Efficient Car: 2015 Volkswagen XL1 Goes 420km Per Gallon by Naijautonews: 10:59am On Dec 26, 2018
That’s an ultra-rare 2015 diesel-electric Volkswagen XL1 (VW 1-litre) with two seats. The car astounds people by being among the most fuel-efficient vehicles of the world as go 100km but use under a liter of diesel oil.

The auto manufacturer Volkswagen announces their super product can travel 261 miles (~420km) with only a gallon of diesel, five times less than the energy consumption of an average automobile in the same distance. That means you just need to spend under N1000 for around four liters of diesel fuel to travel from Lagos state to Owerri if owning this car.

Inside the XL1 2015 edition highlights two door-mounted cabin screens which feature in the Audi e-Tron family. The two screens function to display live videos received from cameras which are especially attached to two butterfly doors, replacing the rear-view mirrors and avoiding troubles from the mirror thief.

The car uses the diesel plug-in hybrid powered by a 5.5-kilowatt/h lithium-ion battery which can provide an all-electric traveling range of 50 km (~31 miles) and a diesel economy of 0.9 liters every 100 km.

The green car can reach the maximum speed of 100mph (~161kph) and speed up from zero to 60mph (~96.6kph) in 12.7 seconds.

Just 250 of the 2015 XL1 with a cost of £98,515 (N40 million) are produced and they are available for the European market only. So there’s nearly no chance for people to contemplate these vehicles on Nigerian streets.

Car Talk / Traffic Law Offenders Would Prefer To Be Arrested By Nigeria Police by Naijautonews: 10:26am On Dec 25, 2018
The OAPs (“On-Air” Personalities), or some popular comedians, asked listeners to phone in and confess which of the road authorities they would prefer to be stopped by when violating the traffic law. Listeners could choose from one of these options: the VIO, FRSC, LASTMA, Nigeria police, the army, and etc. Noticeably, their opinions were aired live on the radio.

At the end of the programme, it came as no surprise that the VIO was the least preferred by callers since it’s hard to come to terms with them.
So, who played the lead? It was the Nigeria Police Force. Worse still, almost 100% of the participants chose to be captured by the police when they flouted the law. The reason is it is much easier to deal with the Nigeria police officers than other authorities. Sometimes, just for N20, you become guiltless. On the other hand, this is much less possible if you meet LASTMA, VIO and “Road Safety” officials. In the main, it was somewhat a humorous, interesting, but sincere interaction.

Nevertheless, what is of great concern to us is how these Nigerians could openly admit a support for corruption. Even worse, callers didn't bother to hide their reals names and addresses. This is distressing not because the callers would be taken into custody for airing their opinions, but it demonstrates that our moral values have gradually been deteriorated.

In truth, the OAPs already asked of one of caller whether this was not encouraging corrupt practice. However, it’s believed that Nigerians might invent more defenses for criminal tendencies. If this is true, have Nigerians been unconscious of being so crime-prone and corrupt?

Lastly, hope that you would never be arrested by any of the traffic authorities when on the move. Good luck!
