Politics / After Winning Election, Akeredolu Wants Ondo Workers To Sacrifice Salary Arrears by nairalandaddict: 10:36am On May 15, 2017
Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu wants workers in the state to forfeit their N12 billion outstanding salaries and arrears owed by previous administrations.

Akeredolu said this while meeting with the committee on arrears of salaries of public servants in the state.

“We have said this many times, we must be prepared to pay sacrifices because we don’t borrow money to pay salaries. If they (workers) meet and say they waive two months, we will be glad, but if they insist on having the full arrears, we will look for ways of paying,” said Governor Akeredolu.

“I will have to address the workers to let them know that it’s not possible to use all our money to pay salaries.

“I know it is not easy but it is also getting increasingly difficult for the government, too, but whatever we do, we will try not to owe salaries,” he said.

Politics / President Buhari Might Be Sick Again, Here Is Why by nairalandaddict: 6:08pm On Apr 19, 2017
There are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari's ailment has relapsed, considering the fact that he has not been in the public eye for a while now and some questions are begging for answers.

Absence from FEC Meeting Last Week

Last week Buhari was absent at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) and this led to concerns that he had fallen ill again.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed however dismissed the concerns saying that the president had other matters to attend to and as such instructed Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to preside over the meeting.

What other matter could be more important than the executive council meeting?

Absence from FEC Meeting Today

Again FEC meeting which was meant to be presided by President Muhammadu Buhari todayWednesday, April 19, 2017 was cancelled.

Speaking at Presidential villa, Garba Shehu, the special assistant to the president on media and publicity said the council had no adequate time to prepare and circulate memos to ministers.

“The staff on the Council secretariat resumed on Tuesday after the Easter,” he said.

“There was no time to prepare and circulate memos to ministers.

"By practice, the ministers receive council memos two or three days ahead of meetings because they must read them and sometimes undertake research.

"It is not a rubber stamp council so everyone must prepare themselves well for debates,
" Buhari’s aide added.

Thought the FEC is meant to be a weekly meeting? shouldn't they be preprared?

Suspension of SGF and DG NIA

The news about the suspension of the SGF and the DG of NIA was announced today by the but there has been whispering in the media that the suspension was a timely "tool" to divert the attention of the Nigerian populace from the issue of his health and his consecutive absence from a crucial meeting as the FEC.

The questions begging for are:

Why has Buhari been absent from two consecutive FEC meeting?
Is the the Suspension of the SGF and the DG of NIA a coincidence of a timely diversion from reality of his health situation?

Politics / Anti Corruption Fight: EFCC Suffers 3 Defeats In A Week by nairalandaddict: 8:49am On Apr 07, 2017
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under the watch of Ibrahim Magu, suffered a setback this week in its fight against corruption in the country. Three different high courts of justice passed rulings in favour of people been tried by the EFCC.

The Chief Mike Ozekhome Case

The first judgement involved a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Mike Ozekhome, Justice Anka had on February 7 ordered a temporary forfeiture of N75 million found in Mr. Ozekhome’s Guarantee Trust Bank account. but in a new twist of ruling, Justice Anka vacated the interim freeze order, and dismissed the opposing counter-affidavit of the EFCC.

The judge said although it was not in doubt that the said sum of money emanated from the Ekiti State Gov., Ayodele Fayose, Mr. Ozekhome could not be held liable.

He held, “There is no argument whatsoever as to the source of the funds as rightly argued by learned counsel for the EFCC, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo.

“The question is, can the respondent/applicant be liable for any infraction as at the time he received the amount in his account?

The Justice Adeniyi Ademola case

A High Court of justice in FCT has dismissed an 18-counts gratification and illegal possession of firearms charge filed against Justice Adeniyi Ademola, his wife Olabowale and Joe Agi (SAN) by the Federal Government

The trial judge, Justice Jude Okeke, in is ruling on the no-case submissions filed by the three defendants, held that the prosecution has failed to establish any prima facie case against the defendants and therefore “no justifiable reason to call on the defendants to enter their defence.”

“The matter is therefore resolved in favour of the defendants and all the defendants are hereby discharged”, Justice Okeke ruled.

The Patience Jonathan Case

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday unfroze former first lady Patience Jonathan‘s account containing $5.9m initially frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Adedipe urged the court to unfreeze the account on the ground that Patience Jonathan was not a party in the suit leading to the order made by the court. Mr Adedipe while citing judicial authorities contended that the order was an abuse of court process as the court has no jurisdiction to make an order against a party that is not a party in a suit filed before the court.

EFCC and the Media Trials

Considering the pace at which the anti corruption agency has lost its trials in a week many questions are begging for answers. But the most pertinent of this questions are;

Is this a case of corruption fighting back through the judges?

Does the EFCC have a genuine case against does on trial or its just an issue of witch hunting?

If the EFCC has a genuine case why has it resorted to media trials instead of a through investigation before allowing the cases go to public view?

Politics / 1989 Recession Was Worse, But Nigeria Survived – Fashola by nairalandaddict: 8:04am On Dec 21, 2016
Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, on Tuesday told the youths not to despair because of the current economic situation, stressing that “there is light at the end of the tunnel.’’

The minister spoke in Abuja at the Special Town Hall Meeting for the youths, organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.

The town hall meeting was conceived to bridge communication gap between the government and the citizenry and also keep them informed of the policies and programmes of government,

Addressing the gathering, Fashola said that government felt the pains of Nigerians and was working hard to bring the country out of recession.

He said from his experience as a Nigerian, he had seen the country even in a more precarious situation when he was growing up and he never lost hope.

“Between 1979 and 1983 when I was in School, Nigeria had a lot of money in reserve. There was nothing we couldn’t buy, but by 1984 the money was gone.

We spent the money on all sorts of things including drinks. There is no kind of drinks that you will not find in the country then.

That was the time we started importing rice, other food items and exotic drinks.

However, 1989 was my first contact with recession. That was when it became very difficult to buy sugar and milk and all kinds of imported drinks suddenly disappeared,’’ he said.

Fashola also said that Nigeria was in recession in 1985 when it became difficult to sustain the cafeteria system in schools.

“We used to eat a meal at the cafeteria at 50 kobo including chicken, egg, bread and tea. To feed as a student then was N45 a month for three good meals daily. In 1985 when that disappeared, Nigeria did not disappear.’’

The minister said that when he left the university, it was the time travelling out of the country popularly known as “checking out Andrew,’’ was in vogue.

He said many of his mates left for greener pastures abroad but he remained in the country because of his strong belief that Nigeria is a land of opportunities.

“I believe so much in the future of this country, I remained, worked hard, though I never knew I will sit here as a minister. So, I want to say to you the youth, don’t lose faith, don’t despair, there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel,’’ he said.

Fashola said that the 2017 budget tagged “Budget of Recovery and Growth,’’ is meant to address recession and the government has set up the parameter for its success.

He, however underscored the need for Nigerians to “roll up our sleeves and work hard’’ to get the country out of the economic quagmire.

“Only the President, cannot recover and grow the economy, everybody must understand that we are at the time when we must work our hardest,’’ he said.

He recalled that for upward of three years before he was made minister, no contractor was paid, which led to shedding of jobs in the three sectors he is overseeing,

He said so far, the government had made two disbursements to ensure the contractors went back to site and recover lost jobs.

Speaking in the same vein, the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun, said the country “is coming out of one of its most difficult periods.’’

She said the government is investing massively in infrastructure and diversification of the economy to move away from dependence on oil.

Politics / I Have Learnt From My Mistake, Next Year Will Be Better - Dalung by nairalandaddict: 7:46am On Dec 21, 2016

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung said on Tuesday in Abuja that the delay in the payment of allowances of the victorious Super Falcons “was unfortunate”.

Dalung said this at a Special Town Hall Meeting for the Youths organised by the Federal Ministry of information and Culture.

He said, “It is unfortunate that we have to go through that situation. We learn from our mistakes and we will ensure issues that will subject our national image to ridicule will be avoided.
“We will take careful look at such issues when planning in the future,’’ Dalung said while responding to questions from the youths.”

It will be recalled that the Super Falcons’ bonuses and allowances after their AWCON 2016 victory were delayed until they protested and the Presidency ordered immediate release of their money.

Dalung assured the gathering that the National Youth Parliament would be reformed and democratised to ensure that its representatives have mandate of members.

He said, “We inherited this very important body for youth representation and we are going to embark on reforms. The next parliament would be democratically elected.

“Therefore, those interested should be informed and be getting ready.”

Dalung blamed the crises in the Council on interference by politicians and others not in age bracket of youths but using the group for their selfish motives.

He said the ministry is planning to hold youth stakeholders meeting next year to discuss on best ways to address the challenges facing youths.

Dalung urged the youths to change their mind set and disengaged from indiscipline and negative values.

The Minister of State for National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed said the 2017 budget was designed to expand partnership between the public and private sector.

She said in the design, the government funds would be used to act as catalyst to attract the private sector resources.

Ahmed said the government is determined to take the country out of recession by using the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan which will be concluded in January 2017.

She said other critical component of the 2017 Budget is its focus on infrastructural projects such as road, rail, power and ICT to have positive effect on the economy.

The minister said there are provisions in the budget for the creation of special economic zones and industrials parks which will act as vehicles to accelerate domestic activities for innovation, wealth creation and job creation for youths.

She said that the economy has made significant increase in the development of agricultural and mining sectors.

Africa’s richest blogger, Linda Ikeji has received a public proposal from a hotel manager named Mr. Bonny Uku following the plea she made to her future husband asking him to show up.

According to Mr. Uku, he is in charge of the First View Hotel located at the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Festac Town – Lagos. His phone contact has been given as 0706119343.

In a banner designed by him,the middle-aged man urged the general public to assist in disseminating his public marriage proposal to Aunty Linda as he awaits a positive response.

Uku did not forget to emphatically state that his love for Linda is genuine and his feelings are not motivated by her wealth.

Should Aunty Linda accept his marriage proposal, the union could even be cemented before the year comes to an end. There however, no response from Aunty Linda yet.

Linda Ikeji Gets Public Marriage Proposal From Hotel Manager
Linda Ikeji Gets Public Marriage Proposal From Hotel Manager
In case you do not know what prompted the surprise proposal, this is it! Recall that Linda Ikeji’s younger sister, Laura Ikeji, got engaged to her man Ogbonna Nwankwo on December 16th. Reacting to the news, Linda could not hold back her frustration about being single. She took to her blog to write:
“So my amazing little sister Laura Ikeji got engaged tonight. Her man of about a year, former footballer and younger brother to football legend Kanu Nwankwo, Ogbonna Kanu, asked her to marry him and she said yes! So so happy for them. Big congrats to Laura & Ogbonna.

“Meanwhile, to my matter, dear future husband, biko show up nah! Me sef want to wear wedding dress..lol. I tap into Laura’s blessings! 2017 loading. *wink*”.

Usually, successful women who are very ripe for marriage would always try to make people believe they are not bothered by their singlehood in order not to appear desperate, but Miss Linda Ikeji is obviously not a pretender.

On several occasions in 2016, she would always talk about her expectation to get married and start a family. As she turned 36 on September 19, 2016, she revealed that the one thing she is yet to achieve is having a man and starting a family.

Her words: “My prayer as I turn 36 today, is to find an amazing guy soon, settle down, have a bunch of kids and continue to live, impact my world and make a difference. Please say a prayer for me! I mean it!”

Celebrities / How Toyin Aimakhu Covered Up Seun Egbegbe's $3,000 Theft by nairalandaddict: 2:51pm On Dec 18, 2016

Toyin Aimakhu has been reportedly said to have at one point covered up for Seun Egbegbe’s $3,000 (N1.5 million) theft.

According to Sahara reporters;

“The dealer, Semiu and Egbegbe had met briefly on December 9, 2015, at a MultiChoice outlet opened by the latter two days earlier at Uncle Joe Bus Stop at Mokola area, Ibadan. About 9 am on that day; the dealer told SaharaReporters, a man he had never met walked into the outlet requesting to buy two GOtv decoders.

The prospective customer, added the dealer, said he was expecting a friend of his to bring money with which he would pay for the decoders.

Shortly after his arrival, another man arrived wearing jellabiya, the long robe favored by Muslim men, and gave the prospective customer some money.

The dealer, who was working when the jellabiya-wearing man handed over the cash, said he did not know the exact sum given to the first man. After handing over the cash, the man in jellabiya left. Curiously, too, the prospective customer, who would later turn out to be Egbegbe, the dealer explained, stepped out of the shop and waited outside, where he was shielded from view by a glass door.

Wondering what was happening to the envisaged transaction, the dealer stepped out to check on Egbegbe.

He found him standing outside and sought to know what was going on. Egbegbe, who kept impersonating a prospective customer, then pointed to a man waiting for downstairs, signaling that he was the one that would provide information required for the activation of the decoders. Though he was speaking, said the dealer, his voice was drowned out by music from the loud speakers hired to create awareness for the outlet.

That was the beginning of trouble. When the jellabiya-wearing man got upstairs to meet the dealer, he announced to him that Egbegbe had taken $3,000 from him.

He could not make any connection between what he heard and the transaction he was supposed to carry out.

“I considered it a joke initially, but later realized that the second guy was a Hausa man, who had innocently transacted business with the pretended customer on the assumption that he owned the MultiChoice outlet,” the dealer said.

The Hausa man, recalled the dealer, told him that the pretended customer had phoned him from a Fidelity Bank branch opposite the MultiChoice outlet, claiming to own that place and requesting to change naira to dollars.

Apparently, Egbegbe had failed to give the forex trader the naira equivalent of the money he took from him, with currency trader lured into a false sense of security that Egbegbe owned the dealership and could always find him there.

When the currency trader realized that the man he transacted business with was not the owner, he raised the alarm.

“Before I knew what was happening, I was surrounded by over 20 Hausa men and dragged to Sabo, the hub of forex trading in Ibadan,” the dealer told SaharaReporters.

From there, things would get nastier. At Sabo, the currency traders convinced that the dealer knew the man who took $3,000, descended on him.

“I was beaten for about 45 minutes and was about to be killed before a policeman from State Investigation Bureau (SIB), named Samson, intervened and ordered us to move to Oyo State Police Command Headquarters at Eleyele,” he recalled.

While relieved to have escaped jungle justice, there was to be no further let-up to his ordeal.

At the SIB, the dealer and other currency traders were told to wait in a room, while the man from whom the $3,000 was taken, Samson and the SIB head went for a private discussion. After their discussion, and without any interrogation, he claimed, they were transferred to AKS for another round of beating.

At AKS, he added, they kept asking him to refund the $3,000.

“I kept telling them that I knew nothing about the money and that they should not kill me because of $3,000 (N750,000). After about 30 minutes of beating, I was handcuffed and taken to my office and to my house. My wife and four-year-old daughter saw me in handcuffs. They searched my house and found nothing,” he said.

Before going to the dealer’s house, they had arrested the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Fidelity Bank branch opposite his office, where the perpetrator of the fraud claimed to have phoned the currency trader from. The CSO was arrested because the police found evidence that he had phoned.

Samson, the police officer, explained the dealer, had told them at SIB that CSO called him to find out if the operation was successful and that the CSO said it was.

From his house, they moved to that of his staff identified as Alfa. This is in the Agbowo area of Ibadan. They equally found nothing incriminating in the house.

The dealer said he would also later discover that Samson, the policeman, told the SIB that the found firearms in his house. He was the detained for five days.

While in detention, he kept requesting that he be charged to court because he suspected that there was a plot to make him face criminal charges and have him remanded in prison. On account of the suspected plot, many people, including one of his lawyers, advised the dealer to offer to pay N500,000 of the N750,000. The man from whom the money was taken agreed when it was suggested to him. He was told to put it in writing.

“I knew nothing about the money and there was also no way I could raise the amount suggested, having just started business. I was given till 15 January 2016 to pay part of the money,” he narrated.

While waiting outside the Anti-Robbery Squad premises on the deadline day of January 15, 2016 the dealer said he saw actress Toyin Aimakhu with a man that was being wildly cheered by policemen.

He took a closer look and discovered that the man being cheered by the policemen was the person that came to his office requesting to buy GOtv decoders and eventually took $3,000 from the currency trader.

On the said day the victim saw him at Anti-robbery Squad where Seun Egbegbe and Toyin Aimaku came to release Aimakhu’s Range Rover that he Seun gave her which d police impounded from her driver earlier that day and fortunately Semiu saw and recognized Seun Egbegbe as someone who collected $3000 from the BDC vendor. lawyers.

“I was confused. I then told one of the Anti-Robbery Squad officers that the man in front of them was the one who collected the $3,000.The officer asked if I knew the person I was pointing at. I said I was sure he was the one. The officer said he is Seun Egbegbe, a socialite,” said the dealer.

Stung, the dealer I ran to the Investigative Police Officer (IPO) handling his matter to tell him of his discovery. The IPO, the dealer said, asked him repeatedly if he was sure of the man’s identity.

“I told him I was sure he was the one who came to my shop,” stated the dealer.

Drama then ensued when the IPO wanted to arrest Egbegbe. He was arrested after initial hesitation by police and confessed that he was the one that did it.

But his actress girlfriend, Toyin Aimakhu told the police that she was ready to offer them (the police) any amount to bury the case because she doesn’t want a scandal, the victim wanted to press charges against Seun Egbegbe but the police colluded with Aimakhu and threatened Semiu and his co-victim with harm.

Some officers were opposed to his arrest, but the IPO insisted on arresting him, and he was arrested.

He confessed to the crime and promised to refund the Hausa, currency trader. The actress, added the dealer, slumped in shock.

“I was invited back to AKS on January 18, 2016, for apology and compensation, but nothing was done. The CSO and another staff of the Fidelity Bank branch lost their job. I incurred huge financial losses and almost lost my sight,” the dealer recalled.”
