A fake soldier, with the name Dokio Olotu, was nabbed at Agadagba in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State by Soldiers of 32 Artillery Brigade serving in 19 Battalion, Okitipupa.

Olotu (51) was allegedly terrorizing residents of Agadagba. He “extorted” money from motorists and pedestrians.

Soldiers, who were on normal routine patrol for Internal Security Operation of Fast Strike Squad, got a tip-off.

The soldiers on arrival at the scene discovered that Olotu was a fake soldier.

He was arrested and later handed over to the police.

The face-off between the National Assembly and the Executive over the 2016 budget came to an end with the signing of it into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.


President Buhari signed 2016 Budget into Law in Statehouse on 6th May 2016.

The budget was signed at a brief ceremony held inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

But, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma, while briefing correspondents after the Budget was signed said it would be impossible to achieve its full implementation.

In compliance with the military high command’s directive which is to ensure that all villages and towns are cleared of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 22 Brigade Garrison in Operation LAFIYA DOLE, on Sunday 1st May 2016 cleared 4 villages of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the area. The terrorists hibernating in Cinga, Mallum Maja, Bosuma and Murye villages, were armed with dangerous weapons and have been terrorizing the communities. During the operations 3 Boko Haram terrorists were killed, while 9 of them who tried hiding in foxholes and dug outs were identified and captured alive. Fox-Holes1


Items recovered from them include 9 Dane guns, 3 machetes, 1 bow with arrows, 6 motor cycles used by the Boko Haram terrorists to ferry slaughtered cow meats to Boko Haram terrorists hideouts were recovered and burnt. Other items recovered include 1 tricycle, 4 x Tiger Generators and 1 solar panel. The troops also recovered 300 herds of cattle rustled by the Boko Haram terrorists from Fulani herdsmen and handed over to their rightful owners. Similarly, 400 persons held hostage by the terrorists were rescued and set free. It is gratifying to state that we have not sustain any casualty to own troops and equipment and troops morale remain very high.

There was no senator in attendance at the tribunal for the trial of Bukola Saraki, the Senate president on Thursday, April 28.


Saraki has always been accompanied by senators for his trial

The first time Saraki’s case begun on September 22, 2015, he was accompanied to the tribunal by at least 50 senators on that day.



The second time which was on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, Saraki was accompanied by at least 81 senators to the tribunal.

On Friday, March 11, there were 30 senators present at the tribunal.

Subsequently, they began to reduce in number.

However, on Monday, April 18, ten lawmakers came to pledge in solidarity with the Senate president.

Some of the lawmakers who are regulars at the tribunal to pledge solidarity for the Senate president are Sam Anyawu representing Imo east senatorial district, Stella Oduah representing Anambra north senatorial district and Gershom Bassey representing Cross river south senatorial district, Dino Melaye representing Kogi west senatorial district among others.

Saraki has been charged to court with 13 counts of false declarations when he was the governor of Kwara state.

Popular Yoruba actress, Mercy Aigbe, was on Wednesday arrested by heavily armed policemen at the Olaiya Junction area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

A witness told our correspondent that the policemen fired three gunshots into the air before whisking the actress and her brother, who drove her in a Honda Accord car away to an unknown place.

It was not clear why the police team arrested her, but our correspondent gathered that the policemen were on a stop-and-search when they saw a police cap on the dashboard of Aigbe’s car.

Another witness said the police arrested the actress’ brother because he dressed like ‘yahoo boys.’

The actress was reportedly blocked at the popular Olaiya Junction by a police patrol van which had been trailing her car from Okefia area.

Angered by the effrontery of the police to block her, the actress was said to have flared up and insulted the policemen, who seized her mobile phone.

The actress, whose husband is said to be a police officer, reportedly called him and he pleaded with the policemen to release her.

But the actress was said to have spoken harshly to the policemen and this reportedly annoyed them.

This led to an altercation and her phone was reportedly seized before some passerby pleaded with the security operatives, who gave her back the phone.

The altercation between her and the policemen attracted a huge crowd of people, some of whom wanted to beat up the policemen.

The policemen called for reinforcement to prevent the crowd from attacking them.

One of the eyewitness said at the scene that the police team who arrested her were in search of ‘yahoo boys’ and the look of a young man, who drove the actress attracted their attention as well as the police cap in the car.

The eyewitness, who identified himself as Adedeji said, “When the policemen got to the junction, they went to the parked car and ordered the driver to roll down the glass of the car because it was tinted and they could not identify those in the car.

“Immediately the driver rolled the glasses down Mercy Aigbe rushed out of the car to confront the policemen. They eventually took her and the boy who drove away.”

The actress’ brother was pushed into the back of the parol van, she was allowed to remain in her car which was driven away by a policeman.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mr. Ajibade Egbedele, when contacted on the telephone said he had no information on the arrest.

“There is no information to that on my table. I will find out and call you back.”

He said he would find out and call back but he was yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.

Popular Nollywood Actor, Olumide Bakare, is currently on admission at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, and according to TheNews.NG findings his health may have deteriorated.



The Internet went agog with reports of his falling health on Wednesday. While some of his fans were wishing him well, others called on the public to extend financial support to him to enable him to receive an urgent medical attention.

A TV presenter, Babajide Moronfolu, took to the internet to share, “Bakare was critically ill, and would need financial assistance of well-wishers to stay alive.

Moronfolu also posted photographs of the movie star on his sick bed.

“This is Olumide Bakare on his sick bed at the UCH. He is diagnosed of heart/lungs disease according to his words to me. Orisun TV has taken the lead, please join in raising funds for this great, fantastic actor,” he posted.

Report said the Ibadan-based actor and former staff of the Nigerian Television Authority had been ill since 2013.
