@ yiminton

nah babes. Renaissance is the period while Middle English mostly refers to the types of languages that were spoken between the 12th and 15th century (if I am correct).

u and me both. . . . . .  i equally love the renaissance (and medieval). I think am in love with that period. am not sure yet. lol.

I really admire your intellect. I also like reading your posts as well. probably when am soon in naija, we could hook up.

@romeo

no harm done babes.

RomanceRe: How Does It Feel To Be Heart-broken? by NaJaHaJe(f): 6:06pm On Jan 25, 2008
the easiest way to explain it . . . . . . it feels like a someone's cutting your heart to pieces. it's actually a physical pain. you actually feel your heart ripping to shreds and in my case I had trouble breathing or making sense of a lot of things.
RomanceRe: Is Der A Problem With Being A Virgin by NaJaHaJe(f): 5:44pm On Jan 25, 2008
@poster

there is nothing wrong with being a virgin. I don't talk about mine but it doesn't mean that when it has to be said, I would not be proud to say it.

Like Yimintion said . . .  it may have to do with her age. When I was a lot younger I was a bit shy saying I was still a virgin as people immediately found it odd and would never have associated me as one *****considering my behaviour*****  With age I have found my voice and that strength within myself to say boldly to anyone (if eva i have to)

'about it being in vogue' . . . . . last time i checked, virginity was a personal thing and has nothing to do with social predictions

How can people still be so ignorant in Nigeria? They speak good English but they are still ignorant!! reason: they went to school to learn to speak English and nothing else angry angry

Thanks Yimiton for telling them even when they don't want to learn

There was a time people with tuberculosis were evil in Nigeria
There was a time twins were evil in Nigeria
There was a time Ogbanje was evil in Nigeria
There was a time sick people with swollen stomach were left to die in the evil forest *thanks yimi*
There was a time the Dibia's and Babalawos were the most powerful people in Nigeria

But today is not that time and i hope our generation should start thinking like all their mates worldwide
Educated people still believe very strongly in aliens. Just a few days ago there was a whole lot of ruccus on the internet about the 'supposed' man on mars.

Babes don't kid yourself and think there are no other forces besides ours. whether Abikus or ogbanjes exist is neither here nor there. Something similar does exist. That much i believe. No matter how educated i am or i get.

yimiton:
@ Haje,
Accept my sincere sympathy on your ill health. Get well fast please, we miss and need you here.

I studied Foreign Languages in school, major in French and just started Public and International Relations at Masters Level. Meanwhile, Literature has always been my passion.
What about you, I've always respected your posts too. What did you study?

No, girlfriend,
The argument is that there is NOTHING like the Ogbanje spirit, it simply does not exist. I also went on to state the difference between what we presume as witches in Africa and Ogbanje and I'm of the opinion that witches might exist, *I don't know for sure* but that Ogbanje does not exist. Abiku is the Yoruba word for Ogbanje which is Ibo
Babes how you dey? I feel bad that i was not able to join in for the whole debate as i think it would have made much interesting banter

I studied English with specific interests in american and old/middle english. I also did media/ photgraphy(which I have fallen in love with). I haven't made up my mind yet on what to do for my masters yet. LOL!

If you believe there is a God and Satan then it might be veyr likey it probably exists. Or something close to it. Because it cannot be logically explained cannot deny its existence.

On matters like this I dont really have much to say. I thought this was about the definitions. My bad!

By the way, where is NaJa HaJe?
babe i no well o!!!!! didn't even go work today. I think we may have to agree to disagree on this one. or maybe wait till tomorrow when I'll be in a better frame of mind to think logically.

By the way I like the way you argue your case. What did you study in uni?

On the maths issue . . . . . . I think its way better in many respects. if ogbanje and Abiku and SS could be solved with maths, we would not be knocking our heads together like this eh? All we'll need will be a formula!

By the way I thought the argument was the definition or similarities within the three rather than whether they are fictitious or nothuhhuh?

RomanceRe: Do I Tell My Girlfriends Husband I Know About His Affair? by NaJaHaJe(f): 9:08pm On Jan 21, 2008
@poster

if you want to amebo then i suggest you clear it up with the husband first and see if he tone down or stop all together.

Its very dangerous to come between a couple. If the relationship breaks down your friend might have a vendetta over you simply because she blames you for the break down of her marriage.

Its all psychological . . . . she may just settle for hating you rather than the one she loves or loved at some point. it doesn't matter whether the marriage was working or not.

i kind of agree with you xcept on th last one.
27 -32 hmmmn you don't have so much time as such ooooh esp for the ladies.
not with all those fibroids and diseases in town.one needs to have her kids early.
so for me, below 27 something like 2-3 years goes.
EXACTLY

IF SOMETHING IS GOING TO GO WRONG IT WILL GO WRONG EVEN YOU YOU HAVE SPENT YEARS TO KNOW SOMEONE BETTER.

SO THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT

@NAJA HAJE
DONT WASTE TIME PLS
It doesn't mean it applies to me especially. It's a guideline. In other words. . . . . the younger you are the more likely it is that you are not entirely sure of what it is you want from a partner. But for someone who is above 30 to dilly dally for a year and still not sure where its all going then i think there's a problem.

Take note Siena said something very interesting;

Siena:
As for myself, I knew what I wanted from the very first time we spoke. cool

Yes, mostly the educated and well read ones. I mean socially intelligent as well as academically intelligent ones.
But those myopic ones can not even think of being romantic, they think it makes them less of a man.
I love your choice of words babe. . . . . . MYOPIC! i wouldn't have thought to use it.
RomanceRe: I'm In Love With An Ogbanje by NaJaHaJe(f): 8:01pm On Jan 21, 2008
@ Yiminton

I regret that i was not on-line during the heat of the conversation but nevertheless I still have a few things to add.

Having read up on your summary i still think you have not acknowledged that there is a thin line between Abikus and SS children. I agree there are similarities within the two but they have very different and distinct definitions. (whether this is mythical or fact is neither here nor there). The word 'Abiku' was used by our fore fathers to lay hold of the problem and present it to their gods. One cannot say they are the same simply because it has not been prov-en.

Ogbanjes on the other hand are clearly witches. Part of the meaning originates form the eastern parts of Nigeria and its more closely linked with witches who are mostly young female children.

Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe et al; have represented these 'creatures' the best way they know how to/ or simply for the benefit of their creative work. It is the understated right of the author to use semantics to round off a body of a piece of literature. Using their work to describe or define words like abiku and ogbanje can be very limiting as it's being sited form their views only. None of us in this forum know how much research these authors gathered before composing their work which means it cannot be used as a sole piece of information but rather as a loose guideline.

if the definition of romantic is . . . . . baby baby i rov u verrry mucccch. . i will likes to gets t knows u further.

then i don't think naija guys are all that romantic. the more educated(in ways of women) and westernized the more likely they are to be romantic or very very sceptical about women.

IF YOU ARE VERY TRADITIONAL THEN THERE'S NO NEED TO GO AHEAD WITH THE MARRIAGE. IF YOU ARE MORE WESTERNIZED THAN THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN MAN THEN THERE'S NO NEED DISCUSSING THIS ANY FURTHER.

did you not think it was going to be a problem before you even developed a proper relationship with her in the first placehuh??

RomanceRe: Help! My Girlfriend Is Suicidal, My Life Is At Risk! by NaJaHaJe(f): 3:02pm On Jan 16, 2008
What were you doing with her for FOUR YEARS!!!!!!!!

I think you have a hand in bringing this on yourself. No one forced you to be with her out of pity. besides that is the wrong thing to do(staying with someone out of pity).

Having said that . . . . . you can't run. you are both in the same class. so exactly where are you going to run tohuh

try and avoid her the best that you can. let her so as gently and as swiftly as you can muster so she doesn't get too comfortable with you being in her life.
RomanceRe: Is It A Crime For Girls To Express Their Feelings? by NaJaHaJe(f): 11:37pm On Jan 11, 2008
@topic

It's not a crime. it's a crime when men disregard this form of openness and use it as a ruse to fumble. Guys have this thing about gals being too complicated. Guys are very notorious at reading the wrong thing into a situation.

i am not going to diss the guys alone gals are to blame sometimes for this kind of situation. The way a girl would say some certain things could put the guy off totally even if it's meant to be a compliment.

bottom line:

Guys if you don't understand or need some sort of help speak to your girls because doing the thinking on your own could be disastrous. speaking to your friends about it will help no one. speak to the person who said it first.

Girls, before you decide to express your feelings; compose yourself. if you need to rehearse it rehearse it! if you think a neutral place will help drive the subject home . . .  pick one.
