Plzz give me one socio-economic cum developmental index in which the north(esp the upper north) is ahead of the south.

restructuring means giving every region the power to exit Nigeria when it feels like.
Nope!!

It means that there will be competition and better allocation of economic resources and choices.

It is a far more efficient system.

Coldie:
We igbos stand with the north, there must be no restructuring. All we want is an end to corruption.

Also we want every single natural resource to be under the control of the FG. Both liquid gaseous and solid.

The FG must take over and run all seaports and custom operations.

As time goes on with proper consideration the FG will be in charge of coordinating state IGR, so that they can be the ones allocating it to the states equitable.

Every region in Nigeria must grow, no region must leave the other behind
This backward mentality is one of the biggest reasons for the sorry state of Nigeria currently.

And it is also why in almost every socio economic index, the north lag far behind the south.

I dont know if there are actually thinkers amongst the northern elites

What exactly did the calamitous Poverty Development Party do in their miserable COVID 16 years?

Ordinary gas pipe, they could not build. Even the one Buhari built as a petroleum minister in the 70s, they couldn't maintain it.
Plzz keep your mouth shut!!

The amount of gas pipelines(in the East, West and in SS) built by PDP dwarfs this project.

Dont just talk cos you wanna play sillly politics.

If you were smart, you would know that both parties have failed us more than they have served us. With the current shenanigans of APC even worse

First it availability is more than guranteed. We have 206 trillion of proven gas reserve. Similar project was done for the south west decade(s) ago

Secondly it will be used to power industries in Kano and Kaduna.

Third, the gas is being wasted now. Rather than allowing it to waste away, it will be utilized for something important.

Gradually the pipeline will reach north Africa (morroco) and to Europe.
Agreed. It is a good project.

Hope it is seen through
Politics › Re: More Pipelines Arrive Kaduna Ahead Of The $2.8bn AKK Gas Project Ground Breaking by nameo: 12:33am On Jun 28, 2020
PapaBrowne:
In my honest opinion, this is a senseless project for the simple reason that spending that $2.8billion to build just the pipeline would have built the largest Solar farm in the world(2500MW) right in Kano which could probably supply all of the Electricity needs of North West Nigeria.
There is some much sunlight wasting away in the north it’s a no brainer spending that much to build a pipeline to transport gas from the Niger Delta when has availability is not even guaranteed.

The current largest Solar Power Station in the world is in Pavagada, India @ 2000MW. It cost $2.1b. With $2.8, there is no reason not to do something like that with that kind of money.
The project is more than just generation of power. It is also the channelling of cheaper gas to industrial and would-be industrial complexes in the north. It is part of the deep infrastructural plans for nigeria- national raillines, national road networks, national waterways, national gas pipelines, national broadband, etc. It is a crucial project that has been on the pipeline for some time now.

I am in support of this project. Hoping it crisscross the whole nation so that industries everywhere will have access to gas which is relatively cheap energy for industries.
In fact, if this is how Buhari plans to do his nepotism, and it actually brings development, i support it.

However, i completely agree with your submisson on solar power.

Politics › Re: Atiku Shocked By Nigeria’s Debt Profile, Says Nation In Financial Crisis by nameo: 6:36pm On Jun 16, 2020
4Play:
What they ignore is that borrowing has to be sustainable. It's not a question of whether the country needs to borrow, but the scale of the borrowing weighed against the tax revenues needed to service the debt.

When the oil price initially collapsed in the second half of 2014, Iweala started talking about the need to implement austerity (i.e., cut costs) and it was in that context that she made the (in)famous comment about borrowing to pay salaries.

From the beginning, this government has taken the path of expansive fiscal spending as a way of stimulating the economy. But you cannot stimulate your way out of a currency crisis. The more you spend, the more you increase naira supply in the midst of a dollar shortage putting your currency under more pressure (too much naira chasing too few dollars).

What it needed to do at the beginning was reduce the cost of government. Too few Nigerians (mainly politicians and govt workers) actually benefit from the government anyway. Fuel subsidy has to go too, ditto the currency regime that fixes the exchange rate to the dollar.

To illustrate how something like the currency regime has been wasteful. The government's spending is mainly in naira so it would convert oil export dollars to naira. If it converts it at the then fixed rate of N197 to $1, the government was effectively shortchanging itself as the market exchange rate was over N300 whilst committing to borrowing the shortfall. So the government's expansive spending increased naira supply and facilitated naira depreciation but by using an artificially inflated exchange rate it had to borrow more than necessary to meet its spending commitments which worsened debt sustainability.

The government hasn't given serious thought to economic reforms that would attract foreign nvestment like privatization (why are the Lagos ports run by government?) and deregulation (think of the downstream oil sector).

The government's state-led interventionist model relies on government spending to do the heavy lifting of revitalizing the economy. It is this way of thinking that condemns Nigeria to a debt crisis.
Thanks for your comments

I don’t know where you guys want Buhari to get money without borrowing and I am sure Atiku would have done the same
Almost every nation on earth is in debt at the moment
America have been printing money non stop for 4 months now and still not enough
Close to 9 trillion dollars printed already and they are still contemplating printing more
Gej and okonjo started borrowing when oil was $65 per barrel and you are telling Buhari not to borrow when oil was 19$ barrel, the worse is there was no one to buy it
Buhari is clueless but when it comes to our economic situation,he has no choice than to borrow otherwise you all will starve to death
Yes, we have a Revenue Vs Expenditure(nasic obligations sef) issue, but when you are in the dire financial cum economic situation as described above (debt-to-revenue ratio tending to 100%), one of the things you must do is to reduce COST. Once you reduce cost(esp unnecessary ones), your expenditure will reduce thereby reducing pressure on your revenue and ensuring that your deficient spending(borrowing) reduces. That is massive and evn painful reduction of cost and blocking leakages on the revenue side.

Yet Buhari has not only reduced cost. Cost has arguably increased.

A President that therefore takes the lazy path of just borrowing more while using almost all its actual revenue to pay interests on previous loans is not only serious but sick.

It should frighten you.

He is not criitizing Buhari. He is telling you that you and your children and their children is in danger of perpetual slavery.

A debt-to-Revenue ratio of 99% is absolutely frightening. I didnt even know this before now. I would usually focus on debt-to-GDP. But debt-to-Revenue ratio is an even important KPI hereesp as Atiku rightly said, we are a one product economy revenue wise. That means if any thing happens to oil today, we may ecome insolvent as a nation.

To illustarte, it means that you used your entire revenue collected to pay debts- sorry you are not even paying your debts, you are essentially using your entire revenue as a country to service your debts i.e paying interest rates.

It is equivalent to taking a mortgage on a house, and then using all your salary to pay the interest on your mortgage, leaving no money for other basic necessities of life like paying your kids school fees, feeding, buying of clothes, transport etc such that you now had to take even more loans to do these basic things. This is exactly what is happening presently- the FG and states Govts keep talking loans to keep afloat.

That is the current state of Nigeria. If you are truly a Nigerian, it should shock you

These northerners, esp the elites amaze me. Where were they when these same Fulani heresmen we're killing people first in middle belt and then in the south. What did they say when foreign fulanis were having a field day with some their local collaborators? Silence!!!

Now due to stiff resistance from the middle belt and esp from the South, these fulani herdsmen have turned their attention on them, and now they can talk.

Same thing happened with Boko Haram when it started. As long as it was mainly christains been killed, Silence!! When Boko Haram turned their attention to everybody, noise!

Same thing happened by the way in Niger Delta. When the "boys" started with Kidnapping of whites, Silence. When they extended it to everybody, noise. Look at Rivers now and security.

When will we ever learn in this country??

NB:. The above does not subtract from the fact that the Buhari Govt is the most useless Govt in Nigerian history. Then again, if it takes the heinous killings happening in Katsina and NW for you to realise that, you are not serious.
