PoliticsRe: Can Jonathan Win The Presidential Election Without Rigging? by naso2(m): 12:49pm On Sep 14, 2010
@Solomon227

Nice analysis, but you seem not to understand that the CPC structure is at present very weak and that will be buhari's undoing in the general elections.

Forget story when GEJ wins the PDP ticket , the north will wisely not go all out agaisnt him as they are trying to make us believe now, becuase first there is nothing like a united north, secondly going all out and still loosing to GEJ would badly bruise their political ego and GEJ will be free to run for a second term without recourse to them, so what I see is that there will be a seeming political truce with the usual "no victor no vanquished" stori stori.

The order of the elections is also very strategically arranged to favour GEJ as the PDP men seeking elective office will be forced to work for GEJ , albeit reluctantly just to save their political careers.

PoliticsRe: Babangida Picks Odili As Running Mate by naso2(m): 10:42am On Sep 14, 2010
I see the strategy here.

OUK has just pulled out of pdp and returned to PPA to run for president. so the calculations of the IBB camp are not difficult to decipher.

1. get an odilli who is more appealing to the IGBOS to come on board split the SS votes and win some reasonable votes in te SE.

2. OUK using his PPA card to contest the presidential elections and win majority of the SE votes.

By this moves GEJ's base would have been weakened considerably.

Well I somehow see that IBB is almost conceeding defeat at the PDP primaries so he is looking beyond the PDP to the general elections proper. We will handle him appropriately.

I believe Saraki has good record with electricity in Kwara.

Let Kwara indigenes tell us more on what he has to offer.
Na state government dey give light? Except for some SS states, the state govt is irrelevant in this area.

Saraki brought some zimbabwean farmers and got some people to be sweeping major streets in Ilorin, apart from this there is nothing else to show for his eight years. His father sure has the entire state in his pocket hence bukola need not perform as governor.

I somehow still have this feeling the kwara will go to GEJ, because the hausa/fulani are set to make the sarakis know that they are yorubas and can only be coopted to achieve hausa/fulani agenda and not that they(sarakis) can use up any slot meant for the north.

Olusola saraki is likely to get upset as things unfold and possibly go with OBJ GEJ. wink wink

This is a critical juncture in the life of this country and we need capable hands not a man that has no track record and no discernible ideology.
some of us just have a disdain for mediocrity and crass opportunism.we are no fans of IBB or even Atiku.
Pls take it easy.
Nothing annoys me like the statement in bolded text. Medicocre? Please explain what you mean. mediocre by what yardstick? what kind of changes were you expecting to see in 6 months and what is outstanding?

Am laughing at those thinking IBB will voluntarily step down in 2015 for anyone to step in. They must not know the man called IBB. By 2015 some corrupt Igbo pressure group would start claiming that IBB has done more for Ndigbo than any Igbo man could do, hence IBB should continue in office. Hehehehehehe

Like Caretaker said, Zoning was designed to fail. PDP has long promised 2015 to South-South, now we are hearing that it is Igbo turn in 2015. Does anyone actually have the list of zones and which zone goes after which? Shebi the likes of Achike Udenwa picked up Presidential form in 2007? I thought 2007 was NW turn? The truth is that zoning never existed, Hausa just insist on power. Some are even claiming thay NW should continue from 2015-2019 because YarAduas rule was truncated.

Nothing will please me more than IBB winning power, refusing to hand over in 2015, precipitating second civil war. Anything that quickens the process of disintegration is fine by me.

Ndigbo leadership is hurt after the civil war causing them to make some frazzled decisions such as supporting Abacha after June 12, now insisting on zoning for the promise of a cake in 2015. . . A cake which will never materialise.
Thank you.
Infact what baffles me is that none of the guys here seem to be asking why GEJ was chosen as UMYA'S running mate. Had UMYA lived out his 2 terms , is anyone here in doubt that GEJ would have been the default choice by 2015, that is if the northerners believe in zoning at all. So all these 2015 for SE which Atiku and IBB now use as bait makes me laugh.

I have said it and will repeat. If GEJ fails now becuase of SE, then they should easily forget 2015 and 2019 becuase they will definitely not get it too.

Dokpesi Has No Hostage Value, Says JRC

The circumstances surrounding the purported allegation of kidnap of the Director-General of General Ibrahim Babangida’s presidential campaign,
Chief Raymond Dokpesi, took another dimension yesterday with the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC) saying the IBB's campaign head had no hostage value, and that his assertion that the group planned to kidnap him was baseless.

The JRC also said that the persona non grata imposed on Dokpesi was warning to Chief Edwin Clark who the group said was being used as a foot soldier of putting the Niger Delta backward.

In a press statement circulated online which LEADERSHIP gleaned, JRC's spokesperson Cynthia Whyte, said, "We wish to condemn, in all entirety, the false alarm spewed by Raymond Dokpesi concerning threats to kidnap his son. For the benefit of all doubts, we wish to categorically declare that the Dokpesis has little or no hostage value, more especially, it would be entirely worthless for anyone to abduct a child or children with questionable paternity, vain pedigree and dumb ancestry.

“Dokpesi’s ranting represents the cry of a drowning man struggling for some breath of fresh air in murky waters.

“Let us remind all men of goodwill that Raymond Dokpesi's association with the South South People's Assembly in 2007 during the run-off of the 2007 Presidential ambition of Sir Peter Odili was driven by the heavy cash gifts that Dr Peter Odili made to Raymond Dokpesi and his DAAR Communications group to enable them set up shop in Port Harcourt and stay afloat.”

JRC further stated, “Dokpesi has never been involved in the agitation for a Niger Delta and has lived a life of subservience to corrupt Northern oligarchies.

The earlier the northerners realise that it is their lack of sellable candidate in the PDP that empowers GEJ, the better for them.

Zoning or not, a combined team of SARAKI,ATIKU and IBB cant stop GEJ.

Gbawe:
My brother, trading blocs exist to harmonise trading ethos so member States gain trade advantages otherwise not available to non-members. ECOWAS has criticised Ghana's moves because it contravenes the principles guiding the set-up of ECOWAS. I will agree that there are 'grey' areas and this is what Ghana is taking advantage of.

Nonetheless you are correct in stating that Ghanaians have a peculiar problem of overrating their potential. It is that "overrating" that got them to where they are today. Ghanaians are busy bragging over the net of their "economic success" while economic success , at national level, should mean good FDI (foreign direct investment) matched by strong local participation and market presence that assures the employment of indigenes. Instead FDI came and Ghanaians , as per their unmotivated nature, failed to even secure their own local participation and presence  to boost the employment of Ghanaians !!! The Government ,a tad late, has now woken up to its folly. It is now doing things it should not do to, and that is unlikely to be effective, to 'stem the tide'.
I was in Ghana during the CAN 2008, where Ghanaians on the basis of exaggerated reports of expected visitors  mainly non-africans , started making it difficult for some of us to get hotel accomodation. I barely struggled to get one  . Just 1 wk into the competition , it dawned on them that their expectations were very far from the real picture and there was lamentation everywhere by business and hotel owners that nothing special really happened during the period.

I suspect that this their latest move is based on such exaggerated feasibility report too. I just hope our govt responds appropriately.

Gbawe:
That is not the point . ECOWAS law, as long as Ghana remains a member, outlaw this arbitrary and protectionist "law" from Ghana that directly contravenes the provisions of ECOWAS that member States must abide by. No less than the Ghanaian secretary general of ECOWAS has chided Ghana for this action. Nigerians, and Togolese folks should not be put in the same catergory as Britons and lebanese in so far as Ghana remains a member of ECOWAS . In my mind Ghana is just acting desperately out of fear of dominaton and this is why they have damned the consequence in taunting a weak trade bloc . No Nation will do this within the EU without first having to withdraw it membership . Serious sanction or ejection would be the consequence if you attempt this in a well-regulated trade bloc.
Hmmmmmmmm , miracles happen, somehow i did not see GEJ in this post grin grin grin grin

On a serious note i doubt if the ecowas laws , overrules certain measures that can be taken by individual nations to boost the involvement of her citizens to dominate petty businesses , that have a direct bearing on the degree of unemployement.

On the other hand, I think Ghanaians have a peculiar problem of always overrating their potentials, if other countries play their cards well, the Ghanian govt will definitely regret this. It is now left for our government to make some vield adjustements and use the powers of being a leading nation in the west african sub-region to bring ghana to her senses.
PoliticsRe: A Bouquet For E.k. Clark by naso2(m): 10:18am On Sep 13, 2010
Somehow i see clark as some unwanted baggage that GEJ , needs to manage in critical times like this.

I somehow dont seem to understand the writer. Do we have anyone in the SS , do not belong to any particular tribe? If Clark said he promised not to celebrate until an IJAW son became president or VP, i do not know how an AKHIGBE as no2 or Aikhomu as no2 in a military regime equates to the the man's desire.

E.K clark is not a national leader, he is the IJAW rendition of the CIROMAs ,wada nas and balarabe musas of the north hausa/fulani.

Trust me every and I mean every tribe has his type and they hardly change with age. My only problem with GEJ however is allowing someone like CLARK to be a frontline man in his campaign.

It is unlikely Fashola will run as VP candidate to anyone . He has stated repeatedly that he want to finish his work in Lagos State. Very few Governors , except those who are outgoing, will accept to be VP unless victory is assured. For reasons I will not belabour , I don't think , for Buhari, a Yoruba VP is strategically clever.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Tunji Egbetokun, has reportedly been impeached.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a source in the House said that Mr Egbetokun was removed, and Yemi Coker (Odeda Constituency) was appointed as the new speaker. The impeachment was reportedly carried out by a group of nine members of the House sympathetic to the state government. The lawmakers allegedly arrived at the Assembly Complex as early as 7am, and went into the chambers where they conducted proceedings with a mace said to have been obtained from the Abeokuta North Local Government Area. The Ogun State House of Assembly is composed of 26 lawmakers, two of whom are currently on suspension.

According to the source, Mr Coker, in his inaugural speech, said the action had become necessary because of the gross misconduct of the impeached speaker. He said the action was taken to save the government from being crippled by Mr Egbetokun and his team. Musa Daura, the state's Commissioner of Police, who visited the Assembly complex around 9.30am with a team of police officers, declined to comment on the development. Journalists and staff of the Assembly were barred from the complex.

Mr Egbetokun, in a telephone conversation with NAN, described the incident as a joke. "They are just nine, even if they were 11; they could not even have removed the speaker," he said. "They are acting for some people and we are watching and we are also on top of the situation. The regime of President Goodluck Jonathan will not condone such illegality.

We will watch for the next 24 hours and we will fight back." He alleged that the action was taken to scuttle the debate on the controversial N100 billion bond scheduled for Wednesday. Mr Egbetokun became the Speaker in May 2008 following the impeachment of former Speaker, Titi Oseni.
This definitely cannot stand.

We had 33 lawmakers in all and 18 of them staged an impeachment plot, how does that come close to the 6 you mentioned?

Initially there were arguments that 18 was the appropriate figure since about 5 of the original 33 were on suspension, so the pro Adedibu gang argued that they met the required percentage .

Forget this your goalpost analogy, it doesnt really apply here.

I am beginning to tire of you . When will you start dealing with th issues raised? Even if it is obvious I do not support Jonathan why do you not argue against relevant points I raise? OGD's plan is fairly obvious . Who is powerful enought to checkmate him if not Jonathan? Why is Jonathan then ignoring Ogn State to focus EFCC attention on States with Governors not backing Mr.President's ambition?

The Yoruba PDPGovernors are some of the worst leaders in Nigeria. Jonathan giving them carte blanche to do as they please, just because they support his ambition, is highly dangerous thing for the inhabitants of the State they govern. Still , that is "par for the course" as far as many Jonathan fans are concerned. Not so ? wink

But seriously are'nt you being to quick in linking GEJ to this?

Until this last move of impeachment, everyone felt the lawmakers where doing their jobs as empowered by the constitution. As much as I know you dont like him, OBJ is still the political father of the state, and if it was as serious as requiring GEJ's attention , it would have been done.

OGD is one SW governors being  alleged in some quarters to be sympathetic to IBB'S bid, so had GEj come in too early, you, Gbawe of all people would have been the first to cry do-or-die.

LADOJA REINSTATED IN OYO STATE-PM NEWS, Lagos

-by Gbenro Adesina/Ibadan, Ayo Lawal, Tokunbo Olajide, Alawode Adebobola, Tunji Adewunmi

Supporters of the impeached Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, broke into wild jubilation this morning, as the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan declared the impeachment process as illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.

Reinstating the governor, the presiding Judge J.O. Ogebe ruled that if the incumbent administration led by Christopher Alao-Akala goes to Supreme Court, it would not win stressing that the process of the impeachment of Governor Ladoja was absolutely faulty.

Among the eight faulty processes were: the sitting of the legislators in an hotel rather than the State House of Assembly to deliberate on the impeachment; sending the notice of impeachment through the newspapers; impeachment carried out by 18 rather than 22 legislators; unavailability of affidavit of suspension; the time-frame of the process; and the declaration of lack of jurisdiction by the High Court, thereby declaring the process null and void.
Many lawyers hailed the ruling as a victory for democracy and a lesson to Nigerians in general.
