Some of you folks tell us IBB is a thief hence only GEJ is qualified. so the question is why is GEJ soliciting the support of a man he should be locking up if IBB is a theif. May be GEJ is not doing his job properly.

So from now onwards, All you GEJ supporters have lost the moral right to call IBB corrupt or a criminal because with this visit, GEJ clearly does not think so.
Na wa o grin grin   see logic.

Well i am not aware of anyone saying only GEJ is qualified. the "support" in this case is a veiled call asking IBB to step down since IBB already decleared his intention to run. It is that simple and I am sure you know this.

Except if one is being unreal, In the nigeria of today , to win a presidential election will require a "mixed bag" of support from "Good" and "bad" people. That does not necessarily make the candidate good or bad. At least even if IBB will not lend support , every politician knows that it will be a plus if he is not working against you from the opposite end.

When someone gets into office, then a phased program of cleansing can start.

You clearly know that getting IBB into jail is not one easy process through the courts as our emotions are wont to make us believe.

Because if he is either of the above President Jonathan does not see it that way otherwise what will he be doing seeking his support or meeting him before running for office?

Those NAIRALANDER calling Jonathan dumb are not too wrong. cos in this game of politics you play with what you have. if GJ is smart enough, he should have use all these pending allegation to victimise and frustrate IBB and make him busy with courts to drop his ambition frustratedly instead of going to BEG. and if he doesn't know how to do it, he should ask OBJ if d man is truly supporting him
That will not be a wise move my friend. IBB has already declared his intention and any attempt to use some process that will not be so easy to prove to stop him, will definitely be challenged in court and IBB has a bright chance of winning at the courts(at least for now), because the process of proving IBB guilty will be a long one, and the courts will restrain the FG from taking further action pending the determination of the suit.

Secondly it will give IBB that posture of someone GEJ is too afraid to meet at the polls and that will not be good for GEJ.

The battle field presenlty is the PDP primaries and there is no evidence anywhere that IBB has a better chance than GEJ to clinch the PDP ticket.

GEJ is only trying to talk IBB to step down so that the PDP can approach the general elections with a united front. I am not totally sure GEJ will get the PDP ticket, but I am very sure he will stop IBB from emerging.

Can Joe kill Babaginda? or Can Babaginda kill Joe??

Becos 1 person has to kill the other cos the money in the presidential villa and the pen they use in appending their signatory on trillion of naira project is to much money.
IBB is only buoyed by the zoning talk and nothing else. He knows the power the president weilds.

Joe will definitely stop IBB (that does not make GEJ the automatic winner of 2011 though). If GEJ finds that he cannot convince the north to vote for him, or that the fragile peace in the country is seriously threatened, he will only ask the north to give a neutral candidate like Goje, or he will just back his VP Sambo to run for 2011 and all the zoning lords like IBB and ATIKU will look too naked to appear in public.

Gbawe:
You guys don't get it. Jonathan , despite his insincere pretense with facebook gimmick and similar nonsense , is not a modern politician who believes in selling himself to the electorate. He believes in rigging election and the supression of the will of the electorate . We all saw this with his actions during the Ekiti Guber election. Jonathan is more indicative of past politicians and their retrogressive practices . With the worst election riggers behind him (OBJ, Anenih et al) why does anyone think that Jonathan is interested in genuinely testing his popularity with the electorate when his gang of "do-or-die" politicians have convinced him that rigging and deploying underhand bullyboy tactics is the way forward?

Jonathan is not Donald Duke or Ribadu . He knows he cannot apeal to Nigerians on historical record of achievement, merit and through his current performance in office. WHo has the brightest chance to win if not an incumbent President who possesses the executive power to do the positive things for Nigeria/Nigerians that other candidates can only dream about ? When Jonathan prefers to play Politics the archaic way (renting crowds and jobbers, sacking party chairman, looting the treasury for campaign funds, bullying others out of the race, etc ) rather than making Nigerians fall behind him , because they are encouraged by his achievements in office, it is very obvious he is not the man to take Nigeria forward.
The more i try to ignore these your posts , the more difficult i find the task. Ok tell me what jonathan did during the ekiti elections? Was it wrong to go campaign for PDP ? was jonathan in charge when the ekiti elections took place? Why did you not talk about the Anambra guber election that was conducted  when GEJ became acting president? was anambra guber  elections rigged?

You keep talking about Jonathan not wanting to test his popularity , and i say just hold your peace. The time will come in the general elections .

Even Bola Tinubu will fight for and grab a PDP presidential ticket if he has the slightest hint that it is achievable. All and i mean all other political parties are at best state or regional champions. PDP is the only party with sufficient national spread, hence every serious presidential candidate knows that having the ticket solves half of the puzzle . That explains why your founding chieftain ATIKU had to dump AC and hurriedly declare his presidential ambition even before meeting re-entry prerequisites. So stop the GEJ being desperate  talk.

Kulikuli's analysis aptly captures the events in the country today. Although we cannot rule out his working for Kalu, what he says up there are clearly correct. All those mushroom groups rooting for GEJ are nothing plus rented crowds plus AGIP(any govt in power). Youth Earnestly ask for Jonathan.
GEJ's politics is too petty and unsophisticated to me. Maybe because he has never contested election before.
We need to understood the difference between groups setup by GEJ , to sell him to nigeria and the ones formed by some attention seeking politician to push them back into relevance. Me self fit arrange some boys for lasgidi here come dey make noise. We have read a lot of reports about unauthorised groups trying to hijack the campaign. Dont worry the real players go soon show.

This does not in anyway diminish the truth about nigerian politics anyway, that you dont have to be liked by the big politicians for them to support you and campaign for you. Most times it's all boils down to what they stand to gain , which you in return use as bargaining tool.

This writer has written well. I just hope we all understand it rightly anyway.

First he has stated that these political jobbers have shown up in the camps of all interested candidates for now. But that he wants to focus his attention on the jonathan's camp.

He has to understand however that that kind of "ideal" politician that gives you assurance and you go to bed is scarcely found in nigerian politics today.

If a tinubu can consider an alliance with a buhari and a ribadu that once had tinubu in his list of corrupt governors is now trying to get his endorsement and possibly represent his party, then we need not look far to see that the "ideal" politician died a long time ago.

Abiola won '93 fair & square, no dispute about that. What we should be asking is why did IBB disqualify all the other viable candidates because frankly Tofa was a lame horse the North could have done better than that, if the elder Yar'Adua had gone up against Abiola, there's no way Abiola would have swept the North.

Looks like MKO was being set up from the start only he wasn't politically savvy enough to realise it.

By the way rumour had that Abiola gave Atiku a blank cheque to step down for him in the SDP primaries.
This is not likely to be true.
Another version has it that Atiku was kept in the race to split the votes of northern delegates and stop Kingibe so that MKO could win. Had all the northern votes gone into one basket, probably kingibe's, then MKO stood no chance. I believe this version more, because Shehu Yaradua was angry with Kingibe who was his political son. IBB was said to have told yaradua that one of the reasons why he cancelled the primaries won by him(yaradua) was at the instance of the report of the party(SDP) chairman(kingibe) that there was widespread irregularities.

The way people view certain issues leave so much to be desired. While not holding brief for the writer, i doubt if the story is far from what happened. Even a 5yr old would know from the way Ribadu came back, got all charges dropped, wrote a letter to the police commission, got pardoned by the police and retired voluntarily that the president had serious interest in him. At some point there was this talk that the police commission was discontented with the way the presidency "coerced" them into accepting ribadu's apology.

ziddy:
Why can't Ribadu be NSA? or better yet GEJ should've kicked Farida out and made Ribadu EFCC Chairman again.

SSA on Anti-corruption seems more like a sinecure, to me.
My friend shine your eyes , that job is for professionals that have proper grounding in national security matters. Ribadu is a good man but , there is no evidence that he has the requisite know-how to manage security at that level.

PoliticsWhy Ribadu Fell Out With Jonathan . . . . . by naso2(op): 8:45am On Aug 27, 2010
Fresh facts have emerged as to why ex EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu, fell out with President Goodluck Jonathan shortly after the former returned from self imposed exile in the United States. When Jonathan visited the United States, he met privately with Ribadu, where he prevailed on the ex anti-corruption boss to return home and play an important role in his administration.

Pointblanknews.com sources disclosed that Jonathan had two positions in mind for Ribadu, either Special Adviser on Anti-Corruption and Good Governance or Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Considering the hitherto goodwill he enjoyed both home and abroad, and the propaganda machine of Ribadu which peddled his alleged persecution by the late Umaru Yar’Adua administration, Jonathan decided to give Ribadu a soft landing. He ensured the non declaration of asset charge was dropped; he was reinstated by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), while the allegations of misappropriation of convicts funds, and assets while he was EFFC boss were downplayed.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that on arrival, Ribadu had another meeting with the President were the President reiterated the need for Ribadu to work with him. But sources close to the Presidency and Ribadu, told Pointblanknews.com that he rejected the offer.

According to our sources, to the chagrin of Jonathan, Ribadu said he wanted Gen. Aliyu Gusau fired and he be made National Security Adviser (NSA), or at worst he be made the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Jonathan, it was learnt, bluntly refused; maintaining that there was no way he (Ribadu) could be made NSA, or INEC chairman. Our source hinted that he told Ribadu that he was not experienced enough in security matters to hold the office of NSA, considering the fact that he was an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), before his rapid promotion to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

On the INEC job, Pointblanknews.com sources said, the President told him, he had penciled down three names, with Prof. Attahiru Jega on top of that list. However, there was pressure for the President to make someone in the academia, INEC boss, so the he settled for Jega.

Pointblanknews.com sources disclosed further that when Ribadu couldn’t get the NSA or INEC job, he decided to dump Jonathan and the PDP and seek relevance elsewhere. So when some emissaries of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN), came he was willing to listen.

Said our source “Ribadu is considered to be ungrateful to the President. When the President came to the US, he met with him and assured him he would be part of his administration. So when he came back, the federal government ensured all those baggage like the declaration of asset charge, and the trouble he had with the police were taken care of. The President had wanted him to be Senior Special Adviser, Anti corruption, or INEC boss, but the INEC thing did not work because of pressure to pick someone from the academia. Ribadu rejected the Anti corruption offer and insisted on either the NSA job or INEC boss.”

Our source said further “So when the president would not bulge, Ribadu decided to move somewhere else. He started talking with the ACN which was looking for candidates for their Presidential slot from the north.

According to our source, El-Rufai felt out with Ribadu because there was an agreement between them that they should work with Jonathan, and ensure they play visible roles in his administration after 2011, or support him (Rufai) for presidency. The duo has now reconciled.

But first sign of trouble came when Ribadu set up the Good Governance Group,(GGG), and words filtered to Rufai that his pal was insisting on the INEC or NSA job or nothing. Rufai was also miffed by the fact that that Ribadu was using the GGG to negotiate with the ACN to run as its presidential candidate.

Shortly after, Rufai took swipes at Ribadu, tagging him inexperienced to run for Presidency.

All efforts to get Ribadu’s reaction failed but one of his aides, Chido Onumah was nuanced in his reaction. Asked if his boss wanted the job of NSA, Onumah, in a telephone conversation said “ I know some of the issues, and I have my take on them, but I will want him (Ribadu) to personally react to them.”

The governor is an elected official, he should know how to comment in public, the local government chairman of andoni was also elected by his people, but was publicly embarrassed and called incompetent in front of the people who elected him by Ameachi, the INC chairman was also elected by his people but was also publicly humilated in absentia in front of his Okrika kinsmen by the same governor, attend any of the town hall meetings and you'd know Ameachi feels his a demigod, publicly ridiculing traditional rulers et al, He just met his match in Patience, People just comment anyhow here talking trash without know the true situation of things in rivers state, the same patience everyone is calling names at the grand reception organised on that same day, commended the governor for his achievements and also enjoined her Okrika people to support the governor in his developmental strides in rivers state, concerning the waterfronts there was a court order retraining the governor from destroying bundu-ama, but he was still adamant and still sent enumerators and surveyors there, someone like him who came into power through the courts should have been the first to respect the courts, we are in a democracy not an autocracy words like "I Must" "we Must" on the people who voted you and supported you is not the best, there are better options in resolving the waterfront issue before it snowballs into another inter-ethnic war in rivers state, ask any real rivers man and you'd know the waterside issue is more than just development it is also about identity and ownership of land in port harcourt, its not only in the waterfronts we have cultist Ogbakiri was a base for militants and cultist during the rivers state crisis period has it been demolished almost every rumu village in port harcourt has their own little cultist and criminals have they been demolished, in as much as the state government has to bring development to its people as that it is civic responsibility the fear of what happened in maroko is still fresh in the peoples memory and I believe dialogue is the best solution to this issue than the language of power or "Must", I still believe in my governor and would be the first to vote for him for a second tenure but I still believe in dialogue as a means of resolving this issue and that was exactly Patience Jonathan meant which everyone now terms scolding, or was advising him to dialogue with the chiefs and heads of the people a wrong idea?
