Abagworo: I‘ll not contest 2015 election – Jonathan
on february 01, 2011 at 1:41 am in news BY DANIEL IDONOR
ANKARA, TURKEY — President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, said he has no ambition to stay in office beyond 2015, assuring Nigerians in Diaspora that while he will not contest the 2015 election, he will ensure that this year’s election is free and fair. The President promised that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in key sectors of the economy — security, power, education, road, health amongst others. “Without security, there is no government. So it is not debatable, it is something we have to addressed and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.” Jonathan said this while interacting with Nigerians mainly diplomats working in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA, and the African Union, AU, in Addis-Ababa. While fielding questions from those present at the interactive session on whether Nigerians abroad will vote, Jonathan said: “I would have loved that the Nigerians in Diaspora vote this year but to be frank with you, that is going to be difficult now. Presently, the law does not allow the voting outside Nigeria and so this year Nigerians in Diaspora will not vote but I will work towards it by 2015 even though I will not be running for election.” On the issue of security, Jonathan said the government was doing everything possible to arrest the situation. He disclosed that all those involved in the October 1 bombing had been arrested and were being prosecuted. He, however, said he ordered the release of the car dealers because they were just businessmen who could not have known that the vehicles were to be used for such heinous crime.

Non-Remittance of $49.8 Billion: CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Lied-NNPC
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has refuted reports credited to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, alleging that it withheld the sum of $49.8bn representing 76% of the total crude oil revenues from January 2012 to July 2013.
In a statement signed by the General Manager, Media Relations Department of the NNPC, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, and made available to the press, the Corporation clarified that the allegation is borne out of misunderstanding of the workings of the oil and gas industry and the modality for remitting crude oil sales revenue into the Federation Account.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it needs to be stated that the figure of 594.024 million barrels of crude oil given by the CBN as the total crude oil lifting for the period of January 2012 to July 2013 does not represent the correct picture of crude oil lifting for the period. From our records, the correct figure is 618.55m barrels. This shows that the CBN understated the actual crude lifting by 4.13%,” Dr. Ibrahim stated.
He explained that revenues from crude oil liftings are in various categories, namely Equity Crude; Petroleum Profit Tax, Royalty, Third Party Financing and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC. Revenues from each of these categories are statutorily collected by different agencies of the government. The NNPC collects only one of the aforementioned categories, namely Equity Crude. Petroleum Profit Tax is collected by the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Royalty goes to the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Third Party financing goes for Research, Development, Program and Satellite fields Development, while NPDC goes to NPDC for upstream development.
While NNPC pays proceeds from Equity crude directly to the Federation Account with the CBN, the FIRS and DPR pay PPT and Royalty respectively into the Federation Account with the CBN. The sum total of these proceeds make up the alleged unremitted revenues, Dr. Ibrahim stated.
“The 24% of total crude oil revenue receipts which the CBN governor is reported to have acknowledged that NNPC remitted represents the proceeds from the equity lifting which NNPC is directly responsible for. The alleged unremitted 76% was paid to the agencies that are statutorily empowered to receive them for onward remittance into the Federation Account”, Dr. Ibrahim explained.
He stressed the need for institutions of the Federal Government and top government functionaries to seek understanding of issues that are not clear to them from relevant agencies rather than go public with misleading information that is capable of creating public disaffection. He expressed NNPC’s availability at all times to meet with all relevant stakeholders to clarify issues.

Deborngreat: I don't want to be sentimental but i do believe that GEJ does not have the potentials anticipated of a leader for the nation as big as Nigeria. Unbelievable that in a big occasion as big as lat NELSON MANDELA'S service of song there was no room for the Nigerian president to issue a speech, some blame it on the bilateral discord between South Africa You have expressed sentiments here even after stating that you don't want to be sentimental. How many leaders went to SA and how many spoke. If everyone was allowed to speak would the service have ended in 2 days. na UN general assembly? My friend if actually GEJ was snubbed it speaks to our foreign policy and that dates tens of years back. Almost every country we assisted from Namibia to S/LEON turned their backs against Nigeria, all these happened before GEJ even became a deputy governor. |

funken: All commenting on thread, let us clear our heads of sentiments and comment objectively. We know OBJ is not a saint, however he has made some salient points.
And please the argument that corruption was rampant during OBJ's tenure does not give GEJ the express fiat to "go to town" on corruption (i.e eat drink and go to bed with corruption).
Let us all address the points OBJ made one by one - irrespective of who made it, because that is the only way this country can move forward. You clear you head of sentiments on line 1 and a few lines later you express sentiments. Standing by for you to take issues raised one by one. |

validplanet: This is serious! My brother consider the fact tha obj never promised anybody that he will not seek a third term. so if he did seek a third term he did not break any agreement. am a business man. and i know how people take agreements seriously, whether written or verbal. and will expect u to keep ur agreements to the last 1 naira. when u fail to keep it to the last 1 naira, ur apologies may not be accepted and ur good will may become useless.
simply keep agreements. full stop. My guy abeg pack well with this your yeye line. Does our constitution permit 3rd term? when you are sworn in do you vow to defend the constitution or not? So OBJ swears to defend the constitution and now went behind to try to amend same constitution for personal gain . so a few men will now come and say GEJ verbally told them he will seek only 1 term hence he should no longer contest even when the constitution permits him. Abeg make we hear word. |

Tintinix: GEJ is getting to the powers that be, this is getting very interesting!! However I am curious to know exactly were the almost 50 billion dollars is! $50b is NOT Naira!!
See OBJ talking about trust and intergrity as a virtue of a politician!!! Where? In Nigeria?! So all these people speaking out when they have nothing to loss are really taking us Nigerians for granted and for fools! They should all go and do the needful since it is appraoching! They mentored and have raised all these sychophants we are seeing! How much does Nigeria make in a whole year for $50b to be missing between 2012 and 2013 and salaries are being paid, govt still pays contractors and states still get their allocation? should this figure not be coming from RMFAC? abi na wetin dem call their name sef |

So because Asari and Clarke rise up in defense of GEJ, that makes him clannish. Nonsense.
OBJ the nationalist had to plead with the entire SW not to field a presidential candidate in 2003 so that he can defeat Buhari.
The message I see hear is OBJ telling GEJ not to contest 2015. simple . forget all the stories |

APC has just one style----- make all the noise in the media as if the party is on ground and focus more on e-voting on sites like NL, then cry wolf when the real voters wake the up on election day.
20 AMAECHIs can never deliver 25% of rivers votes to APC , not to even think of winning the state either in the governorship or presidential election. Incumbency my foot.
I want PDP to legally take Amaechi up in court and let the supreme court find a way to reverse itself. |

mackfame: I can’t entirely express my joy reading all your various posts, views and ideas on our darling Super Eagles.
I think its time to include Manu Garba in our SE coaching crew assisting BIG BOSS; I have a feeling that our SE lacks the relentless attacking spirit of the Eaglets and the mastering to perfection of the game of counter-attack despite possessing lots of super fast players. This is where Manu comes in; we need him to help change that attack. Remember the more goals the Eaglets scored the weaker the opponents became! I bet if all those Countries try attacking us with an improved SE leaving spaces behind as always, all that is needed is a swift break from the back and looping ball from the mid-field to either flanks… their goose will be cooked time and time again as Eaglets showed Keep the flame burning Y’all Age grade style may not work at the senior level . Besides bringing Manu Garba to the crew might cause more problems except if keshi expressly makes the request. |

Dats Y I love stephen keshi, he wont underate thaiti, I read is comment dat Nigeria is nt in an easy group as acclaimed, though, he knew Nigeria is in an easy group
This man think Super eagles wil take it easy with him.
Super eagle 9 argentina 6 iran 3 bosina 0
They will receive d shoker of dere life with dat points, dey better go ask ITALY, dey receive d shocker of d MONTH wen Nigeria came frm a goal down 2 take d lead in 1st half.
Sepp blatter will almost av his heart attack wen joseph yobo lift world cup trophy 4 Nigeria nxt year. we should take it easy o. BH is not an easy team as many nigerians are quick to believe. that is where vedad ibisevic and edin dzeko come from. These are 2 deadly strikers that will trouble any defense any day. One thing BH will be playing IRAN the confirmed weeping boys of the group in their last game, they would have known the scoreline between NIGERIA and IRAN. So their strategy will be simple. minise the lose margine against argentina. Play Nigeria for atleast a draw and wipe IRAN silly. Trust me, Nigerian team may not just see the big picture and fail to get a huge scoreline against IRAN which will be very key here. |

Niseamaka: Valid points. I'm from Anambra state and I do not support any of the candidates. To me, there's no difference between the three leading candidates ideologically or otherwise. Most commentators on this forum were expressing there support for the parties of their choice, particular APGA supporters, regardless of available facts. How can an election in which a leading candidate, Tony Nwoye, could not cast his vote still be to stand. How come about 50% of the registered voters could not vote b/c their name have disappeared from the voters register, thereby resulting in just about 400,000 total casted votes out of over 700,000 registered voters. These are gross irregularities that needs to be address not just expressing support for political parties of your choice. 50%? so tell me this 50% that could not vote are APC and PDP supporters only? In the 2010 elections that Ngige, obi and soludo contested what percentage of the total eligible voters voted? |
Politics › Re: APC To Challenge Apga's Victory At Tribunal by naso2(m): 10:26am On Dec 02, 2013 |
APC--- A party that is never gracious in defeat. Whenever they lose, elections are rigged and when they win it is adjudged free and fair. Nonsense.
Supplementary elections were conducted for FAYEMI and NGIGE in the past, then they were not illegal.
No independent monitoring group has stated that ANAMBRA NOV 16 elections should be cancelled wholesale. There is no election that is totally free and fair, the only thing to be considered is if the noticed flaws had SUBSTANTIAL effect on the final outcome. IN THIS CASE ITS A CAPITAL NO. |

##Brazil tinz!! I need Haruna lukman in this team , he will greatly compliment onazi and mikel in the midfield. we should also consider bringing yobo and victor anichebe back to the team. i think oduamadi has overstayed in the team. with anichebe, moses and emenike, you have 2 impact players and one with guile in your attack that will be a very difficult puzzle for opponents defence line. |

ClintonNzedimma: Because of this thread i was forced to create a nairaland account. Nigeria did better than italy #fact.....its not easy to play a match on saturday den take a 6 hours flight to England with little time to rest and train and play a 2-2 draw with a team that won the 2006 world cup in 48hours....so if u say 9ja didnt play well....ur brain get partial contact #fact Oga you did not play the team that won 2006 world cup, you played the team that did not move past the group stage of the 2010 WC. I think the team did not do badly but lets not deceive ourselves to think we did better than italy. As nigerians we owe ourelves the responsibility of telling ourselves the truth and tell keshi same. The truth of the matter is that we have qualified for the WC, but to do well we need at least 6 new players in the team. The defense is really really suspect. We cant go far with he likes of ogwueke in the central defence. |

Now he has no milatant political arm to force northerners to support him by force. He now has to convince Nigerians before he can get the votes and not the "dog and babbon in blood" useless threat.
