Thank God its only the first half he saw. I am not bothered about what happens in the first half. Against BARCA the first half was simply bad. Two central defenders off, and trailing by 2 goals before a scary camp nou crowd, but in the end we came out tops.

Guys, i need the car gurus and other NLers who have used corolla 2011 to intimate me with any known problems like cooling , engine durability etc with Corolla 2011.

I am at the verge of buying one (full option) and find it worthy to get reasonable advice from guys on "known problems" that i need to consider before the purchase. A friend told me he is aware of AC(cooling ) issues with it in the afternoon, but i have not found anyone to corroborate this.

Secondly the dealer that seem to be offering the best price now is showing me one that side mirrors do not have trafficators( pardon me but i thot its a given with 2011 edition), but the dealer is saying its optional. I just want to nip any avenue for foul play by the dealer in the bud.

I also support the mass protest for "better governance" from our leaders. Elimination of every kind of waste , but that is not to mean we blind our eyes to market dynamics in the oil sector.

Some are even fraudulently now saying there is no subsidy and i simply ask, on what basis did labour agree on 70 naira in 2007 and on what basis was it reduced to 65 naira later?

What else has remained at same price since 2007? lets be wise. we need concessions from both labour and govt , if we heat the polity up we all stand to lose when "jungle mature".

Making a general statement on corrupt leaders is diffferent from someone like Bakare coming to make specific statement personal statements like this . Remember Bakare was the one that promised a "wild wild north" if pdp rigged the presidential election. We all know the happenings after the election.

He is free to disagree with the president but not to act like caution/moderation does not exist in his lexicon.

It should never be reversed to N65. I however will recommend that he brings it down to N100 with a clear statement that come April 1 when the effects of some of the planned paliatives would have been evident, the price will move to the fully deregulated price.

Even Labour knows that reverting to N65 is not realistic when all our surrounding neighbours do not sell below N175.

Very correct. This set of protesters broke off from the main NLC group and decided to gain entry into govt house. Reports have it that a part of the fence caved and when police saw how they defied the initial tear gas fired, they resorted to shooting live ammunitions in the air. The 15yr old was hit by a stray bullet.

The second victim died from the stampede caused by the rush in the govt house.

I like your post. i do not agree with some of the things you said but i have learnt from it.

Just some observations

1. There actually is a "cabal" -- key oil marketers, nnpc staff, and major audit firms. Oshiomole was even bold enough to mention the likes of akintola williams. The problem was overbloated quotes which had the concurrence of the audit firms, hence difficult to prosecute perpetrators in court.

2. The minimum wage was not signed singlehandedly by gej without consultations. Labour felt the best time to negotiate was just before the elections and they made their demands. Gej and other elected govs saw how sensitive it was towards the election hence they signed. Mind you the FG had little to worry about as it was already 17k in fg parastatals even before labour demanded. The governors on the other hand knew the minimum wage was a banana peel that could topedo their reelection bid hence they played along without voicing any concern but to come back and cry foul after they secured their return tickets.

3 You rightly said saving the excees crude revenue did not have constitutional backing. But almost all of it was shared even before GEJ started his campaign. The bulk of it was shared during UMYA tenure as oil prices had plummeted to as low as $30 in 2008 hence  govt tackled the shortfall of the budgeted $57 benchmark price  with eca savings .

4. QUESTION . from your analysis how much do you think is the actual landing cost of imported pms?

Do people have a right to protest subsidy removal? Yes
But only a grossly insensitive person will ask the govt to watch some Abokis assemble at 1am in a volatile city like kano and be fooled that its about subsidy removal.

They are not and it is disappointing you conclude so. I hope this is not because of your pro-GEJ stance. Let me demonstrate what many are saying regarding the "wicked" and "anti-people" leadership of GEJ. We have all done the recurrent expenditure thing to death and everyone accepts it is too high at circa 73%. The GEJ Government has produced two full budgets so far with scant or no effort at reducing the unacceptably huge amount allocated to recurrent expenditure.

The total amount of the 2012 budget is N4.7 trillion. Recurrent expenditure at 73% would be N3.431 Trillion. Even if , very modestly, GEJ's Government target a cut in recurrent expenditure of 25% we would have a savings of roughly N0.9 Trillion. Tackling corruption and the scam element of subsidy would easily make up the shortfall to probably provide more the N1.3 trillion "used" for subsidy recently!!!

Now, you and other GEJ fans should answer this:

When has GEJ ever made personal fiscal sacrifices given what Nigeria is facing? Have we seen GEJ announce that, for example, he will cut the food budget of him and Sambo from roughly 1 billion Naira to around 200 million till further notice ? Have we seen GEJ cutting cost, duplication, waste and doing away with superflous positions? Where is the letter written to the NASS seeking pay cut for public official while the same President is quick to chase a tenure elongation bill? Why has GEJ not made a reform of Government , along a drastically streamlined model, a priority?

It is very dishonest for us to keep talking as if the money they insist on saving via subsidy removal cannot be realised elsewhere [size=18pt]easily [/size]. We all know why GEJ is not looking elsewhere i.e his arrangement with virtually every AGIP in Nigeria means he cannot  touch their 'food' . We discussed this non-stop before the election i.e the notion that it was unhealthy for GEJ to have so many AGIPs behind him!!!

What is amazing is that non of the fans of GEJ show the integrity to admit that it is highly innapropriate , wicked, and wrong for the GEJ government , considering we run the most hideously and profligately expensive bureucracy in the world, not to make cost-cutting the cornerstone of governance while many rich nations worldwide are routinely and proactively cutting cost and waste to survive an austere period. Yes let us look at subsidy but let us also have the decency and integrity to ask why GEJ has no interest in cutting waste and fighting corruption that could release what they tell us they are spending on fuel subsidy.

Gbawe if only you remove this line "you and other Gej fans" from your post . It will help to make me understand that all your talk is not all about allowing your  anti GEJ  sentiments to colour all you say. On your post i have a lot to tell you but it appears all arguments now revolve around " i am for GEJ" and "I am against gej" without looking at the specific merits of the argument.

When we look at the arguments for and against the subsidy, it appears the supporters of subsidy removal are doing better mental work. I for one will support the removal , my problem however is the govt will most likely only hike the price a little, labour will embark on strike, govt makes some adjustment and in the end the susidy debate is pushed to another time in future.

i howver want govt to commit in very specific terms what the 1.3 trillion will be used for.
