Up Pool Ope o. There is no incentive for Chelsea when Arsenal find renewed vigour towards the end of the season. There's an FA Cup final for us to win and Arsenal should not be finishing the season strongly. I want anti-Wenger fan riots upon the realisation that top four is not longer possible. The only thing I want more than Arsenal finishing 5th and out of the top 4, is United finishing even worse and losing the EL final to Ajax. |

It's great of the lads to wrap it up at the first try.
Good times. |

airmark: I learnt chelsea's board is not convinced, but conte is pressing for 65m to be splashed on him. If it happens, zidane will happily buy mbappe even if it's 100m. Conte needs to watch 90 minutes of all morata's matches this season and not goal highlights. Next season is a long hike, everyone wants to beat the champions, morata wont be spared. I trust Conte's wits more. He also has a pedigree for bringing out the best in seemingly average players. From what I read from Morata, he is ready to run through a brick wall for Conte and it seems Conte loves him back. You cannot buy this. Although he is not first my choice, Mbappe is. What is most important is that Conte doesn't want Lukaku. |

Griffon: This is not actually the way of football, it's the way of super rich football clubs who pay little or no attention to their own academies, it is the way of Chelsea.
Ajax won't bother about 15 year old Gilmour because they have an academy that has and can still produce much better prospects.
Barca's trust in La Masia makes it nearly difficult for you to see them chase a prodigy. Last week they announced the opening of an academy in Chicago, following the previous launch of schools in Austin, Texas, Florida etc. By the start of next season there will be 36 academies spread across five continents, including four in Canada, there are currently 27 in operation.
Spurs are even beginning to mind their business lately. Harry Kane, Tom Carroll, Josh Onomah and Harry Winks have all come up through the ranks while Danny Rose joined the Spurs academy from Leeds in 2006.
So I tell you, snapping up 15 year old Gilmour is the way of Chelsea, and it's an ugly trend.
For all Billy's talent, does he deserve to end up at Nottingham Forest or Vitesse?
We have 38 players out on loan across various divisions, with none of the three academy players who are in the first team a regular. What is the essence? I am not sure I totally agree with this. Despite having a flurry of youngsters, Chelsea as a big club needs to continue to lure the best talent in the world. Don't forget that there are two case scenarios being worked on here. 1. The often rare but feasible possibility of landing a serious gem. This is the best case scenario. 2. The case of long-term financial stability of the club - this is the worst case scenario for the player. Case in Point, Patrick Bamford who was bought for £1.5m on low wages, had his wages paid by loan clubs throughout his "Chelsea Career" and got sold for £5.5m. In the scheme of things long-term, it's often a win-win or the club. |

Griffon: Sometimes I question the rationale behind certain moves.
Why would Billy Gilmour decide to abandon his education at Rangers to join us? Moreso, why do we even need him when it is glaring clear there are bunch of lads at Cobham who are yet to test first team footie?
I wish him well at Vitesse though. The deal was worth £500k. This is what is reported as the official figure. Chelsea probably paid another £200k cash to Parents and bought them a house in West London. And then there's promise of more money to come when he signs his first pro contract next year. That's all that's required. He joins Chelsea. Checked him out yesterday when I heard the news. He's not bad. |

Nihilist: Mbappe is not better than Gabriel Jesus and that dude cost maybe 30M.
Mbappe is just on a streak in the cups. Of course theres a lot of potential there, but for someone who's been averaging less than 2 shots a game and just over 1 shot on target a game, I inclined to believe he's just been lucky as that goal output on such nearer underlying numbers is unsustainable long term.
Anything over 30M is too much for that dude City pays only £30m because Jesus was at Palmeiras. If he was at Monaco, playing on a world stage, £30m will be the money spent to get to the negotiating table. |

bigkesh: I don't Fucking care
No be person pay 89m for black Oscar?? Actually, they could easily settle for the £60m mark if Mbappe is convinced to join Chelsea. He can push for a move and Chelsea could negotiate a lower fee. Bottom line, this is the dude we should be breaking the bank for. Then go and get Sanchez. As I have been saying for 3 seasons now, we need to build a scary forward three. I think I can manage with Hazard-Mbappe-Sanchez. |

diggz: In your defence/support raumdeuter listed top clubs in 2004 along with their strikers as a reason why they couldn't be bothered about drogba and I am guessing pamcode must have picked it up from there.
You have to see reasons why the basis of Ur argument is weak and definitely not good enuff. You cannot condemn lukaku on the premise that no big club wants to sign him. If for nothing CFC are considering his signature and for good reasons too.
I asked dayo to list out the names of big clubs who wanted drogbas signature before we signed him and I got only Juventus.
If I decide to do some digging into your old post I am sure I will find were you blatantly condemned drogba with the reasons you are using against lukaku presently.
I actually drew Ur attention to Costas style of play and I am surprised you are rating him at all. The same Costa who keep 9 out of 10balls passed to him most of the time!
The truth is, I can agree with the type of strikers you have in mind for CFC e.g saurez or lewandoski however, you and I know this guys are not readily available in the market. I am sure if you dig into my posts, you will find the same reasons I condemned Drogba. I was not wrong. What I was wrong about was that I was condemning his style of play, when his style of play was the perfect solution for how we approached the game in that era. In the same vein, if we were to return to that playing style, Lukaku may do. However, we are not. We have since moved on from that style of play and as such, that type of Striker is not a fit. It's a very simple debate. The reason we should stay away from the dude is the same reason others are. Very simple debate. And there is nothing contradictory about my stance. Then or now. Word has it that it is Emenalo who is trying to sign him, not Conte. So I don't support in entirety that "Chelsea" are after him. From everything we've seen in the press, there is little to nothing to suggest Conte is even interested so don't be surprised to see Lukaku in Everton next season and you guys will be here still, telling us why he is hotter than all strikers. Question. If Chelsea don't buy Lukaku next season, what will be the excuse he's not moved? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m): 4:27pm On May 02, 2017*. Modified: 5:05pm On May 02, 2017 |
pamcode: I don't know about flicks and tricks but Lukaku has certainly got clever movement, you can't score 24 goals and counting in a season in EPL and not have movement and positioning, impossible. Against Chelsea he was constantly moving trying to open up space for himself to receive the ball but no ball was coming.
I see no reason why Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, Madrid will come blazing for him when they have their own players(world class) to fill the ranks, the price Everton is putting on him is enough to drive suitors away in the first place.
Actually it was Ian Wright that did analysis on Lukaku and I googled him, Ian Wright not only played as Striker, he played for Arsenal, so he has got that first team perspective you want and is opinion holds more water to me. No disrespect intended.
I believe Lukaku can be successful at Chelsea because he has got that hunger for more and looking at other options available i doubt there is one that doesn't have a BUT. So Madrid don't have their own players whilst courting Neymar, Hazard, Bale, Kroos? Barcelona did not have Messi when they were courting Neymar, Suarez? Hazard has nowhere near the number of goals Lukaku has scored and probably will never outscore Lukaku. Hazard is already 26 whilst Lukaku is just 23. But if Chelsea demand £80m for Hazard at this moment, history tells us Real will pay it. However, somehow, you think they won't buy Lukaku for significantly less, despite being younger, more prolific at goal-scoring and "hungrier" like you put it. Alhaji this defence is DOA. You need to fetch more reasons. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by nateevs(m): 3:26pm On May 02, 2017 |
diggz: I can't remember top club chasing drogba before we bought him.
Drogba was extremely clumsy when he started playing for CFC and wasn't scoring either.
Drogba never had that clever movements when he started with us,he couldn't execute one twos successfully,he lacked tricks and couldn't do flicks in tight corners either.
I am sure you can remember the arguments you made against a peak drogba few years ago bro. The issue of shape keeping and all that but,let us even leave that aside.
Who do u want us to get and why?
I personally will take lukaku ahead of the remaining strikers being linked to us at the moment because he scores!!! Simple.
Lukaku can actually score goals!! He may not do 30plus however,i will be totally ok if he can do 20plus. I hear this thing time and again. Costa and Lukaku in terms of ball control, movements and tricks are worlds apart. Who perpetuates this falsehood? Just look at Costa's sublime play at the weekend for the chance that Hazard missed. Costa's goal against Southampton. And people continue to say If Costa can, Lukaku can. It's not true. And it's not just myself saying this. I have Everton fans on the radio saying the same thing. I have Real, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern, PSG, Monaco, United, City, all not bothered. . . You think they don't know these things you know? Why do you think they are all not bothered? This guy is 23 FFS. The whole world should be begging for his signature but they are not. |

Drogba!!!!! 1. I knew this was coming. Oya go and check Drogba's record for league goals and come back. 2. In case you haven't noticed, that Chelsea football style has died. Now we are building play from the back, passing it on the floor more times than we ever did with the JM team. Then it didn't matter because we moved the ball quickly to Drogba, who dropped it down quickly to the likes of Robben, Duff, Lampard, Cole. Our midfield build was not for Samba-esque attacking play, it was for out-defending the opposition. Now we are building from the back and working up the field with vertical passes through the channels. Don't just say Drogba!!. Insert context, please. |

Nihilist: There's literally no point arguing these fellas. Koeman plays ultra-defensively against big teams..at least at Everton. That's just a fact.
When Everton were playing gung-ho attacking football under Martinez and Lukaku scored against every single member of the top 4, these clowns were staying silent.
That's why I refuse to get drawn into the argument again. Not all of them stayed silent. Some have been consistent, based on facts that are very easy to observe. You will expect up to 95% of teams in the PL to line up against Everton thinking they can win. Therefore, no one's going into those games parking 11 men behind the ball. Conversely, you will expect the crudest of tactics against Chelsea. Constant annoying sh1t like man-marking Hazard, 13 men behind the ball etc. Do I see Lukaku constantly playing in a packed opposition back-line, where clever movements, swift one-twos, flicks and tricks are required to unlock these defence lines and score goals? The answer is a flat NO! There is nothing as yet about Lukaku to convince me that he possesses this in his locker. And I cannot for the life of me understand why this is not so clear. Danny Murphy has not considered this in his analysis. And I can understand not every pundit has what it takes to analyse from a big-team perspective. I really wish Lukaku good but please not at Chelsea. Certainly not at £65m. 23-year-old with 144 career goals in the PL. How many 23-year-olds can boast of such record at this age? None! True. However, this is the sort of scenario you see Real & Barcelona going to war over, with agents all over his family members, offering deals to anyone, and flirting with him publically in the press, just to get the new sensation to their grounds. I see none of that happening. Alarm bells! Where are Bayern, PSG, Monaco, United, City, Arsenal, Liverpool..... All those who should be all over this chap who was breaking records at 21? Nowhere near. And the reason is very clear to see. The flaw in Lukaku is greater than the sum of all good he brings to the game. EOS! |
