@ edie_mafio: I am a lawyer here in Nigeria and I can talk abt our laws here. It is easy for them to blab about wat they can do to a man who hits them. And those who expose their ignorance here may never had any reason to hire a lawyer. Yet they are experts on d law. In Nigeria, provocation is a good defence on a charge of assault. Anyday, anytime. It can even mitigate murder and push it down to manslaughter. Most times, all those gals here who sound tough cannot afford a lawyer, or d cost of a prolonged lawsuit, especially d way it is in Nigeria. They think it is as easy as reporting d matter and wham! he goes to jail. Story! All that can happen here is dat the Police will invite him and he bails himself, and they are advised to settle since it is a family matter. I hv seen it countless times in d course of practice. Let any one with contrary view provide a single instance of a man jailed for beating his wife in Nigeria, not London, not Paris, not New York, but here in Nigeria. Mtscheeew!!!! |
^^^^^ I am a lawyer myself, and I know female Magistrates who will come late to Court just because they hv to prepare their husbands' food. And let the guy not just be sick. That day no Court! All u will hear is dat u shd take a fresh date. That is why so many female lawyers here hv become veteran spinsters. Who wants to go near because of all this rubbish they spew? And ask them how much they have without d men that they seek to downgrade, I don't know. It is a simple matter: u file, I file. |
I pity all these plate-washers, nannies, street-cleaners, and unfortunates who got smuggled into the US for a lifetime of menial jobs and come here to spew rubbish. What is ur status in d white man's land to guarantee ur protection even if a man slapped u ten times? Someone like Mrs. Chima who doesn't even hv legal papers wouldn't dare show her plate-washing face in d Police Station or she gets deported faster than u can say 'slap!'. If the system were so meticulous, how come the incidence of spouse-beating is on a relentless increase. If d might of d US govt can eradicate it, and if deterrents are not enuf to curb it, is it a common fly like her who can do a tin about it even if it happened to her? And as for Cherechy, na only u be lawyer? My dear, I will beat u blue and black and wait for u in court. U make it sound like u ar d judge urself. U tink d man won't hv any tin to say at all? Before u knew law, people hv been practising it. |
@ Mrs. Chima: We all know that when it comes to a verbal war, no man can ever win a woman. So I'm not trying to 'win' u here. But I hv been following ur posts and I just laugh at the powers u assume u hv that make u untouchable. U ar in d US: u shd hv asked whether the man that beat the women is in US too. This is Nigeria where a man has NEVER gone to prison so far for domestic violence. It is even d female Police officers that will start callin u names. U boast a lot about wat u wud hv done and all that; how d OP beat d wrong chick. Of course u ar drawing strength from d legal system of the US. Come Naija come sharp mouth. Let me know what u can do. If u ar so powerful, there ar so many women here who suffer from domestic violence. Why don't u come down and jail all d men if it is that easy? U dey white man land wen e be say woman get so much right, u dey sharp mouth. U for dey here dey sharp that mouth. We have seen ur type. If u were my wife (God forbid), I will beat u and wait for rain to fall. See u wen never fight ur fellow girl before dey come NL dey threaten man. We don see ur type tire! |
Why are u feeling guilty? Sometimes dat is d only cure for a nagging woman. And make no bones about it, some of actually don't mind. Why don't u condemn her for being violent to d extent of smashing a phone? Why the tantrum? Abegiiiiii! Serves her right jare. And u, poster, don't be in a rush to apologise: it makes her bolder. |
I wish I had Emeka Offor's brief. |
@ pilata Are we talking about Nigeria? The thread is abt his success in Europe: why sour it wit his performance in Nigeria? Mtcheeeeeewwwww! |
One word is enough: Jihadist. |
The simple thing is that no human government can get it right, be it Obama, GEJ, or whosoever. I just take everything my govt does as one of those things, knowing full well that the President may not even be able to rule his own household, talkless of over 170 million people. I await the Kingdom of God. |
Fossil-Fuel Discovery Would Be Disaster for Israel, Intel Corp. Official Says. http://www.al-monitor.com/cms/contents/articles/business/2012/02/ceo-of-intel-israel-discovery-of.html “The worst thing that could happen to us as a nation is the discovery of natural gas, and, God forbid-–also the discovery of oil. It will cause us to shift our attention away from investment in technological education,” said Maxine Fassberg, the departing chief of Intel Israel, at a conference Tuesday of the Israel Association of Electronics and Software Industries in Tel Aviv. “The industry must be brought back home,” Fassberg said. “The waves of immigration from the Soviet Union, which, in the early years, supplied the high tech industry in Israel with incredible momentum, have decreased, and will not supply the bonus that immigration supplied in its first years. Now, we must rely solely on the education system to set in motion the wheels of Israeli technology. That is why Israel must prepare a national plan for its education system for 25 years, not two years, which will be expansive and will analyze the needs of Israeli industry as a manufacturing sector that will develop the next generation.” Maxine Fassberg, an executive of Intel Corp.’s Israeli subsidiary, said “a discovery of gas or oil by Israel would result in a lack of attention to human capital and of investment in the education system, Assaf Giladi reports. “We owe the next generation the education that our generation received,” Fassberg said. Publisher: Calcalist (Israel) Original Title: CEO of Intel Israel: Discovery of gas or oil is the worst thing that could happen to us Author: Assaf Giladi Published on: Tuesday, Feb 7, 2012 Categories: Analysis & Opinion Economy Israel “We have 160,000 students in the 12th grade, but only four percent of the students are expected to complete technological subjects, study science in academia and work in the high tech industry,” Fassberg said. “In a developed country, that number stands at 25 percent, not 4 percent.” Fassberg also noted that “Israel produces more Nobel Prize laureates per capita than any other country in the world, and will continue to produce Nobel Prizes laureates in coming years.” But she added that “Israel has a grave shortage of engineers, and universities today prefer to produce quantity and not quality, and therefore the level of the engineers is not among the highest in the world.” Fassberg said that “if we don’t succeed in returning to the market the high ability levels it was accustomed to in recent years, we will ultimately harm it and not encourage excellence. Striving for excellence must be at the top of our list of priorities. Anything that is less than first place is a compromise, which we mustn’t reach. We owe the next generation the education that our generation received.” |
Wait till October for what? In these times when husbands are scarce, she sees a willing suitor and she is making dirty shakara. I know many girls that have said 'let me finish school first; let me get a job first;' etc, and they ended up being veteran spinsters. What is wrong if they start the process of at least going to see her people? She no serious and is waiting for a better offer somewhere. My wife was in year 2 wen I married her. Initially she said I shd wait for he to finish skl. I bluntly refused; after all, wat will happen now that can't happen wen she is tru with skl?I shd wait 2yrs again, not counting strike period? As it turned out, they hv lost a year to strike. I for dey wait, abi? Guy, if u really want it now, tell her so. There is no valid reason she will give in this era of hubby-scarcity that shd satisfy u. |
I feel like weeping wen I read posts from NairaLanders condemning Nuhu Ribadu's acceptance of the recent FG appointment. This is really bad. Wait a min: wat do u guys really want? If GEJ had given such sensitive task to a PDP man, u would hv been hollering 'cover-up'. U wud have been quick to ask y he didn't appoint someone outside the PDP 'family of corruption'. And are u saying that party affilliations shd now take precedence over national interests? Of course not! If Ribadu will salvage the system what is my biz if he is from the moon or from the the defunct NRC or SDP? We should learn to rise above political and national myopia in our approach to national issues. If a Yorubaman will govern my State and ensure a better life, I wish for that day. I am a card-carrying member of PDP, but if a better Nigeria will be brought about by AC.N or APGA or any oda party, so be it. Let's allow him, support him and his team, and spare them ill-motivated distractions. Petroleum is Nigeria's lifeblood and so all hands must be on deck, no matter where the hands come from. |
I have patiently read thru all d posts on this thread and I hv this to say: 1. I sincerely sympathise wit the Ibos over the incessant but purely unwarranted killings and persecution of their kinsmen and women in the North. Travelling outside one's home in search of greener pastures has never been a crime. There are Jews almost everywhere in the world too. Despite the sufferings and killings they have endured in d past, they are still found all over Europe, even as citizens. 2. Igbo leadership, as before, as always, takes a position based on monetary considerations. They are all silent in d face of all these happenings because of wat they will gain by not upsetting their Northern masters. Selling out their people for money is nothing new. Ibos should disregard any statement issuing from them because they don't hv the interests of d average Iboman at heart. 3. MASSOB should be smart enough to realise that mere shouting and ranting gets nobody anytin in Nigeria. The SS shouted and complained for decades but notin happened. The moment they took up arms, voila!we have a President. Its not d ideal situation, but that is what Nigeria understands. And that, my friends, is wat BH is playing at. So if MASSOB is really serious, it should get itself armed and then Nigeria will take the Ibos seriously. |

I can trace as far as Adam. Beyond that I'm not so sure, |
Freely have ye received and freely shall ye give. Do u guys remember when the Master told d young rich ruler to go sell off his wordly belongings so he will be free to follow the Master witout tots of material belongings distracting him? Wat about big bro, St. Paul who said he will never be a burden to the congregation but will always earn his own living as a tent-maker? Y wasn't Paul d richest man then despite his huge follower-base? Cos he didn't care abt stuff! |
@freegaza: And FYI, Gaza will continue to remain under Israeli occupation. Go and kiss a high-tension wire. |
@freegaza: Its clear from ur despicable, thoughtless and ill-motivated comments and even ur reckless username that u are intellectually bankrupt and blinded by hatred. Of course I can safely bet that u aspire to be a bomber someday urself. Go get a life,ok? Cow! |
Offer Chief Uwazuruike and his gang 10million and they will lie low forever. |
For the very first time, I totally agree with Beaf. I guess he must have calculated that this idea of his will not cost his master GEJ any political capital. Well, if only we could rise above silly nationalistic sentiments and implement this idea. After all, the late Justice Udo Udoma was once the Chief Justice of Uganda. |
QUOTE FROM: 2BUFF: I get the $5, you get one of the pots Which beer u dey drink jare? Its on me plenty-plenty! |
@ Beaaf: As usual, ur logic is polluted. U just committed a fallacy in reasoning and logic more popularly known as the "et tu quoque" fallacy. It translates into something like ' see the kettle calling the pot black'. The point is:is d pot black or not? Very diversionary at best, it is usually employed when a debater is backed into an argumentative wall. Go polish up boy, and come back. Hear me? |
I am totally suprised at all d apologists of GEJ who see nothing wrong in d premature removal of fuel subsidy. Let me address it from a purely economic point of view: 1. It will hike general consumer prices since our economy is hinged on oil and its derivatives. Removal of subsidy willl see a higher cost of running factories, businesses, and transportation and all these will shoot consumer prices up. In d end, we still end up spending more on projects cos of the hyper-inflation that wud hv arisen. 2. we have better comparative advantage in refining petroleum products dan importing same from abroad. It will help to push down the price of petrol if govt instead revamped our refineries and we start refining here. Why has he not done so? Why not build new ones? And why not wait until those cushions are in place before removing subsidy? Worst case scenario: y not refine in neighbourin African countries to reduce costs for its citizens? Then, speakin politically, wat is d guarantee that the funds wil be managed well? If IMF is so good at dishing instructions to 3rd world nations, how come Europe is in a mess and still sliding? He does not hv d credibility needed to assure us that the funds wil be managed properly n wil not go like d Police equipment fund and all other juicy baskets in Nigeria that they all loot and get away with? All we r going to hear is that d monies hv been looted n dat the person has been granted bail, and sorry, that's d end of it. No amount of useless soap-box rationalizations from GEJ and his apologists such as Beaf will make us swallow d shallow logic they serve us. our mantra still remains: no to fuel subsidy! Arab Spring (nay, Nigerian Harmattan) beckons! |
@ BEAF @ BEAF @ BEAF Beaf, must we read from u at all cost even when you know u ar not making sense? Ar u so addicted to cyber-attention dat u must spout idiocy anytime u make a post? Where can u begin to compare ur morally bankrupt self with the exalted person of Tunde Bakare? When he led the march to make sure ur lukewarm GEJ assumes substantive office, where were u and why didn't u apply ur minuscule powers of reasoning to say the rubbish u ar saying now?Is it just because this time d clueless and fast-becoming draconian president is at d receiving end of the man's activism? It is unfortunate that it is men like u who would sacrifice the lives of others on the alter of political expediency and consolidation that are actually in power. That has been d lot of Nigerians since Independence. On the other hand, ur malicious, defective and peurile reasoning and inappropriate vituperations against ur eternal betters can never guarantee u a place in history like the reverred Pastor Bakare. U ar a loser in and out. Go hug a transformer when Bakare protests. Unrecognized government apologist who hides behind a veneer of logic to nurture anti-social tendencies! |
Quote from Beaf: But the govt would not stoop to bestial levels and get OPC, NURTW and God knows how many armed robbers to quell any protest and spill innocent blood. I cannot understand how a government can turn thugs on its own people. Oh but u do understand, only too well.if Fashola who has more finesse and style than most PDP 'rulers' have cud stoop so low,I expect the notorious PDP and the FG to import mercenaries from Niger and Chad to engage our own people wen eva they summon d balls to protest removal of fuel subsidy. If CAN which is nearer to d people cud do this, then I truly tremble at the tot of wat the insensitive PDP will do especially where the stakes ar much, much higher than tollgate concessioning. If Fashola who does not have real powers ova d military, police and all other security outfits could act like this, wat do we expect from d highest office in d land who controls d police? We are watching. |
23 is not old.just a desirable age to get married.wen u hot 28-30 wahala don dey be that o!that stage is called the 6.30pm stage in a woman's life.at that point I u can't help not bin desperate.but for now,ur still within a spacious comfort zone.no worry urself. |
It all depends on d circumstances of each case. I got married beginnin of this year.my wife is 20 this December.her own mother insisted that my wife stay wit my own mother to enable her mature.I stay on my own anyway.she has a bouncing baby boy and is still wit my ma.I stay 12 mins away from the family house if I walk.I see notin wrong if there is understandin.my wife herself insists she will stay out next year even wen I hv told her March 2012 is my tolerance limit. But it sure helps cos she is learning the finer points of marriage from my mum.and they hv got on so well.I foot all her bills down to the her toothbrush cos she is still a student so its not like her stayin there means I abdicated my responsibilities. In retrospect, my own mum stayed wit her mum-in-law for some yrs n I tink that's d reason for their closeness till today. I see notin wrong there.when my elder bro's wife had a baby,my father directed that the omu-gwor shd be done in his house cos that was his first grandchild. Just that gals of dis days want to separate d guy frm his parents at all cost.n most of them hv this 'alone' tendency so its difficult to see another face in d house. Old marriages used to work that way. Anyway, all man to him own. |
A lawyer tells his lady " I, Ovundah, Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, make oath and say as follows, that is to say THAT PURSUANT to the adoption of a feeling, state of mind or psychological condition hereinafter referred to as LOVE,but otherwise being of sound mind, and IN consideration of that state of amity and mutual affection which now subsists between us, I herby MAKE OFFER of engagement to enter into matrimony under the provisions of the Matrimonial Causes Act 2004, " All he is trying to say is a simple "Will you marry me?" |
@sweet9ja: I won't s join issue with you because, you obviously don't understand what debating is about. Y don't u just admit dat u don't hv anytin to say? As an apologist of GEJ, u shd hv gone beyond puerile and weak arguments to advance ONE SOLID point to sway us into agreein dat GEJ is tryin. If u are bereft of ideas, shut up n stop displayin ur ill-grasp of inappropriate sophism for everyone to see. Don't try to fool people wit vague, ambiguous statements witout any substantiation. U see people debate beautifully on TV and u tink its easy. No let me read any silly post from u again if u hv not filled ur upstairs wit some ideas and sound arguments. |
Excerpt from Sweet9ja: GEJ is like a sea captain given the unenviable job of setting afloat a ship that ran aground, all those onboard must help him to succeed in his task. I'm pretty sure that this man has a vision for Nigeria and that he will succeed. While u r entitled to ur own optimistic forecast, has it ever occurred to u dat all successive govts in Nigeria since 1979 have all said d same tin "dis country has been aground for a long while-give us time to try n set tins"? If for 30+ yrs now we ar still sayin Nig has been in a rut n each successive leader needs all d time in d world to study it before he can begin d task of governance proper, when will we hv serious leadership? If a man does not hv a clue as to wat d country needs, why run for elections? It becomes more painful wen u hv been VP and acting President, and sunstantive President b4 dis tenure. Wat more those he need?y does he not audit nnpc instead of dis fuel subsidy?y did he not prosecute d past MD despite d damnin reports against him? Abeg, shun talk if u no know wetin to talk. Once again,my personal opinion is dat GEJ rates poorly accordint to my scale.go hug transformer! |
@ filjc: The answer to your question is simple: Because you have decided to allow your frustration to make you ungovernable by turning into a nagging impatient out of touch critic and also everyother Nigerian who look at things from the right perspective. Just stop and think again and you will understand. I guess our next president has to be a magician. mtchww! Ur intellectual inadequacy is manifest: who determines d right perspective for everybody? Do I determine for u wen u feel he is trying? Do I ask u y u hold such position?is it not a direct result of ur subjective assessment? Y wud u determine wat is right for me wen I say he is not workin? You want to police my tots? Idiotic praise-singer like u who cannot dissect issues witout resoting to d mundane. Now let me tell u, as u don't know: wen Jacob Zuma was president of South Africa, his greatest critic was his younger brother, a journalist.cud u hv understood dat if it were Nigeria? Wud bigots like urself not kill d younger brother and term him bad-belle for criticising his own brother? Let me hear word abeg! U guys ar a sorry reminder of d military era where everyone must sing d praise of d maximum ruler. bad news for u then:wake up!: this is a democracy where we can hv our dissenting views witout censorship. Fascists!!!! |
@BEAF n all odas who denounce criticism of GEJ: All of u ar fucking stupid!y can't I criticise someone who has d power to decide over 150 million Nigerians' fortunes?! As u guys feel he is workin and others feel he is not,why deny them d right to speak their minds witout casting them in d mold of treasonable felons. Do u luv Nigeria more than those who cry out for beta governance? Ar u closer to GEJ dan anyone here? I campaigned for d man n voted for him; I even contributed money then to make some pro-GEJ publications to counter d negative ones d opposition was spewing at him then. Plus, I come from d South-South if dat counts. So if we down here can't criticise him (not insult him though;there's a difference) who should? Y demonise those who yearn for somtin beta from their govt? Do u read d criticisms against Obama ova d American economy, healthcare, foreign policy, etc. Does he say they attack him just cos they ar not of d same race with him? Does he lay d blame for d economic challenges on detractors? What of Netanyahu of Israel? Whole newspapers are devoted to criticizing him and his govt: does dat mean they hate him? Y can't u put up wit simple criticism which is d hallmark of a democracy instead of insultin those who ar bold enough to demand better from GEJ? He is not tryin. Period! Go to court if it pains u that we criticise him. Beafy Fool and Friends! |
