alBHAGDADI: Luke 9:51-56
51 When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem; 52 and He sent messengers on ahead of Him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him. 53 But they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem. 54 When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” 55 But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; 56 for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” And they went on to another village.
Did you read the above passage? Do you know why Christ rebuked his disciples when they wanted to command fire from heaven to consume the Samaritans?
Christ said that we Christians are of a different spirit. What do you think he would look like today if he had commanded fire to burn down the same people he came to save?
Since the Kemi Olunloyo and Pastor Ibiyeomie saga became a police affair, I've read several comments from supposed Christians urging the pastor on. When it is made clear to them that a preacher is not to react in the manner Pastor Ibiyeomie did, in that he ought to overlook the matter by forgiving her without taking action, like Christ would, , they shift the goal post to saying that Kemi Olunloyo didn't ask for forgiveness.
Did the people that were killing Jesus ask for forgiveness before he said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do"? Now, tell me, a crime of killing you versus a crime of defaming you, which is more easy to forgive without taking action?
Pastor Ibiyeomie calls himself a Christian i.e like Christ, yet he isn't acting like one. He has enjoyed all the good side of being a Christian. But now that it is time to suffer for Christ, he can't even face the suffer of defamation. What if he had existed in the days of the early apostles when Christians where arrested and fed to lions in gladiator arenas? Those disciple's still prayed for their persecutors.
I don't know whether Kemi Olunloyo deserves whatever she's going through cos we don't know whether she has proof of her claims. One thing i do know is that her punishment shouldn't come from a man who is supposed to preach to her. Having her locked up doesn't prove he's innocent of the allegation.
Some would argue that his silence would have made many people to leave his church. The silence that Jesus and his disciples maintained when they were persecuted is one of the reasons why Christianity is major today. If they had attacked their attackers, Christianity would have been tagged a terrorist religion.
Let's remember how Peter reacted when he cut off the ear of one of those that came to arrest Jesus. Most importantly, let's remember how the man they came to arrest reacted to the situation. He rebuked Peter and went ahead to heal the ear. But Christianity of today is "attack me, I attack you", thanks to the years of prosperity preaching which has turned man away from God and made them love self than others.
You can continue to argue in favour of the pastor, but the Bible will always condemn his actions. God has given you an hint to free you from the shackles of those that have been misleading you. Instead of following it, Christians of today have chosen to stand with the same evil men. Below is what Christ will say..
But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of; Luke 9:55
Do you know why many Christians will accept the mark of the Antichrist? It is because they choose man over God and His Word. It's not too late for you today.
Exodus 22:32 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, “Who is on the LORD’s side? Come to me.” You, Seun and those who put these stories on front page thrive on blackmail. Your post is just blackmail. Did you have an opinion when kemi was on the offensive? |

Did she kidnap his child?, did she have access to church funds to defraud them? Other than oral diarrhoea- defamation/libel, What crime has she committed? alBHAGDADI: I didn't want to comment on this thread until I saw your post and others who claim that you can only forgive someone who acknowledges to offending you and seeking forgiveness. I want you to know that when Christ said on the cross that "Father forgive them for they know not what they do", the people at the cross were not begging him to forgive them for crucifying him. They were even cursing him the more.
What am saying in essence is that, you don't wait till the person that offended you comes begging before you forgive. You forgive the person immediately the offence is committed against you and go ahead to be nice to the person. That single act can make the person have a change of heart.
If God were to use your standard of punishment without forgiveness to judge you, I doubt you'll still be alive today.
We all know it is difficult to overlook certain offences, but a pastor should know better. Christ set the ultimate example for us Christians to follow. Failure to do that prevents us from being Christians. So when Jesus said, Father forgive them, they didn't have to repent abi? You are talking nonsense. Even in salvation, it is free, but you must acknowledge, repent, forsake and believe... Have you read, except ye repent, ye shall likewise perish... In your bible? You must repent! |

fasterwell: Every true christians should know that forgiveness is a vital and unnegotiable virtue we must possess and express at all time no matter the circumstance we may find ourselves in.
Mark 11:25-26 says
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 5:23-24
l23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
The above Scriptures were the exact words of Our Lord Jesus Christ on the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation. The Master said even if we are praying and remember we have not forgiven someone who offended us, that we should forgive such person immidately so we also can be forgiven by the Father. He also said if we brought gift(s) to the Father and remembered we have an unsettle matter with someone, He said we should drop the gift(s) at the alter, go and make peace with such person first before returning to offer the gift(s).
Our Lord Jesus Christ categorically told His disciples that they shall suffer persecution just like Him
Hear Him
John 15:20
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
I want us to note that the persecution mentioned above wasn't referring to having large congregations that pays huge tithes and offerrings, living a luxury life with fleets of exotic cars and private jets. Neither was He referring to your church members singing your praise but it includes Kemi Olunloyo accusing Pastor David Ibiyeomie of having a side chic called Actress Iyabo Ojo etc.
No matter the level of persecution we may face, we were already told to forgive our adversary. It is not in our nature as christians to arrest and prosecute anyone no matter what they did to us rather the Bible said in
1 Peter 2:12
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
Forgiveness is the key and forgiveness is the way to everlasting salvation. Our Lord Jesus Christ forgave and prayed for those who crucified Him. Stephen before he gave up the ghost, also forgave and prayed for those who stoned him to death.
James 1:2 said
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
Acts 5:41
The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.
CONCLUSION.
If you know Pastor David Ibiyeomie, help me tell him that he MUST FORGIVE, RECONCILE WITH KEMI OLUNLOYO AND MAKE SURE SHE IS HAPPY OR ELSE GOD WILL NOT FORGIVE HIM FOR ARRESTING AND IMPRISONING KEMI OLUNLOYO. HE MUST DO IT FOR HIS OWN GOOD.
PEACE! You are not God. Our God is a God of justice, law and order. Pastor ibiyeomie can forgive her, but he must not stop the law from taking its course. When the likes of freeze, kemi, Otobo and others peddle falsehood do you open threads to stop them, or did you give support to the claims by being in different? The reason why this thread is on the front page is not because of what you wrote, but because Seun and nairaland admin, hate the church and wants to ridicule the church with posts that diminishes the church. Do you speak out when people post lies and evil? What ever you allow on earth, is allowed in heaven so says the scriptures. Pastor David has forgiven her, but the law must be made effective. Ecclesiastes 8:11 (KJV) Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. |

Reptyle: Below was my comment on an earlier thread on this same matter. It is a shame that the Nigerian Senate has allowed itself to be reduced to this crass level.
"The role occupied by Professor Itse Sagay is not formally recognised by the constitution. He is at best a member of the President's "kitchen cabinet" who was appointed without any recourse to the legislature.
I doubt very much that the Senate has any legal right to invite him over a statement he can easily argue that he made in his personal capacity as a Nigerian citizen.
Like I said during the Hamidu Alli debacle, the Nigerian senate needs to pick its fight carefully. There is no need issuing ineffectual and pointless decrees and summons when it will only end up making itself look irrelevant in the scheme of things.
Itse Sagay might be a lot of things but one thing he has going for him is a deep knowledge of the Nigerian constitution both as a legal practitioner and a leading academic in that field. I can almost bet that he will be releasing a statement before the end of today trashing the senate's summon and upbraiding the hell out of them." The constitution empowers the Senate to summon anyone in Nigeria and give a warrant of arrest. including the president. Sagay did not know the section he quoted. |
